Following the release of several staggered singles over the past couple of years, Wynona will return with an EP release this summer. The first single ‘Falling Into You' is a slice of acoustic-driven power-pop with a nostalgic, Romantic sound. Produced by Theo Verney (English Teacher, Lime Garden), the song laments the ebbs and flows of an everyday and very real romantic relationship. Wynona started life in Japan where partners Natalie & Rich began their sonic journeys, creating expressive, guitar-driven pop at their home studio in central Osaka; finding comfort and a sense of homeliness in their creative output as they began to feel isolated and homesick alone in a foreign country. Upon their return to the UK, Wynona made their breakthrough to tips from an array of tastemaker titles including The Line of Best Fit, Dork, Clash and Notion, as well as being handpicked for Featured Next Wave on Future Artists by Jack Saunders.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Shaun Farrugia over Zoom video!Rising artist and songwriter Shaun Farrugia recently released his long awaited debut EP ‘Heaven Like Mine' via Polydor.‘Heaven Like Mine' is tinged with emotion that's both elevating yet deeply poignant, and continues to showcase the rising star's effortlessly rich and raspy vocals against a backdrop of alt-pop goodness. Lined five tracks deep, the EP is delicately furnished with themes surrounding love, acceptance and modern day anxieties. Featuring previous singles ‘Dear God' and ‘Count On You', title track ‘Heaven Like Mine' is abundant with uplifting folk inspired acoustics, which transitions seamlessly into the ethereal ‘Recognise Me' - leading to the beautifully climatic final track ‘Vertigo'.Quickly emerging as a frequenter on BBC Radio 1 including multiple plays from Jack Saunders and Maia Beth on BBC Radio 1's Future Pop, bringing Shaun's catalogue to 30 million streams to date. His previous cover of The Weeknd's Billboard Chart topping #1 hit Blinding Lights flew straight to #1 on the Shazam Discovery Charts, after featuring on Love Island, the biggest reaction to any song in the latest season of the show. The 26-year-old Maltese native dropped his life on the island to fly to London in 2019, quit his job, sell everything he owned and showed up on the doorstep of Sigala after being invited to come and meet the producer during an Instagram Live. The gamble paid off, Shaun was quickly snapped up by Polydor. As a regular guy doing extraordinary things Shaun scores high on the likability scale, but he manages to balance his modest nature with an ambition that's hard to ignore — and is right there in his extraordinary songwriting. From Shaun's early songwriting credits for artists as diverse as Mimi Webb (‘I'll Break My Heart Again') and The Script (‘Hot Summer Nights'), to two collaborations with the likes of renowned DJ Martin Garrix ('Starlight ‘Keep Me Afloat'' and 'If We'll Ever Be Remembered'), to co-signs from some of the biggest tunesmiths in the business, and at the start of 2022 hitting a brand new milestone with Sigala's top 40 record 'Melody'.Over the summer of 2022, Shaun made his live performance debut at MTV's Isle of MTV in his home of Malta on July 19th, joining Marshmello, French Montana and Mae Muller on the lineup. With more music set for release over the coming months, this gifted lyricist and superstar-in-the-making is already on his way to become one of the most exciting prospects this year. modernlove release their highly anticipated third EP Nightlife on March 24th. The EP features their recent singles ‘until my heart stops beating', ‘Ruin Your Night', ‘Take Me Far Away' and ‘Only Ever Only You' as well as two previously unreleased songs in the shape of the title track ‘Nightlife' and ‘Solipsis'. Previous single ‘Only Ever Only You' received airplay support from Radio 1's Jack Saunders and Gemma Bradley, XS Manchester (evening show / RotW), BBC Radio Ulster (ATL show) and Q Radio group in N. Ireland amongst others. The band is currently finishing their debut North American tour (which also included SXSW) and saw sold out venues in New York, Chicago, LA and Philadelphia, showing the band's recent releases have made a global impact. Inspired by the band's own experiences, the ‘NIGHTLIFE' EP paints a picture of young people's lives: the highs and the lows, the triumphs and insecurities that come with partying, drinking too much and falling in-and-out of love. All six songs were written by modernlove. - Barry Lally (vocalist/guitar), Graham Fagen (guitar), Daniel Rooney (bass), and Cian McCluskey (drums) and were co-produced by the band alongside Tom Leach (Lewis Capaldi, Years & Years) and Adam Redmond. The EP follows the recent release of the band's first ever vinyl, the limited edition compilation ‘So Far'. Their debut UK headline tour late last year sold-out months in advance, while very limited tickets remain for next month's UK tour, which will see them play their biggest headline show to date at London's Lafayette.
Electronic Pop Trio, LOWES, consists of vocalist Evie and producer/multi-instrumentalists Luke and Jamie. The bands music is euphoric and emotional, imbued with an authenticity that makes it both powerful and vulnerable. LOWES' musical footprint harks back to Awake At Night, a song put on soundcloud that set the music industry on fire in 2018. Fast forward a few years and the band are now one of the most sought-after vocalists in the UK. 2023 will see the band following up the critically acclaimed ‘Late Nights Visions EP', 'Adidas & Pearls' (with Vintage Culture & Solardo) and ‘Lucid Love' with Cristoph. The latter was a BBC Radio 1 Hottest Record with Clara Amfo, the band's seventh Hottest Record to date adding to a whole host of previous support at radio from Jack Saunders, BBC Introducing, Arielle Free, Danny Howard and Capital Dance. The continuous support from BBC Radio 1 in particular saw LOWES singer Evie named the Best Dance Vocalist at 2021's Radio 1 Dance Awards. The past couple of years have been characterised by a string of high profile collaborative singles with the likes of CamelPhat, High Contrast, Franky Wah, KC Lights, Sigma, Alan Fitzpatrick, The Prototypes, Vintage Culture and Solardo, culminating in over 65 million streams to date. Hailing from rural North West England and each with a lifetime of musical experience, having all been immersed in music since a very young age, the band meets up in-house to write, record, and self-produce their own work. Evie's powerful vocals, combined with the brilliant song-writing ability, and production prowess of Luke and Jamie make for a euphoric and exciting prospect. Gladly peppered with a note of sarcasm, a dose of cynicism, or at best a tint of darkness, LOWES' music and lyrics often reflect darker ideas and honest fears. Maybe it's this authentic reflection of life, this truth, that makes LOWES and their sound so special.
If you were expecting a big inheritance, how would it affect the way you live today? Jack Saunders looks at the hope promised to Israel through the prophet Jeremiah and asks what hope we might carry through our faith in Jesus now. People following Jesus who have expected movements of renewal typically pray and invest in making disciples, especially looking to equip young people. What can we learn from this that will help us to play our parts in God's bigger plans for now and the future?

Episode 186 was filmed in the van last Friday right after we left No Label Brewing in search of some fast food. We talk about our great experience playing at No Label, and during the song killing segment we discuss the merits and faults of Mötley Crüe and Guns N' Roses. Songs resurrections this week from Benny Mardones and Richie Barrett. ALSO: a few words for our dear old friend and fellow lifer musician Davee Bryan, whom we recently learned is terminally ill with cancer. Patrick met Davee when Patrick was bartending in Houston during the early 1990s, and Davee later essentially served as Patrick's mentor when Patrick first started performing live. Years later, after being introduced by Patrick, Davee and Chad did an acoustic duo for several months before Blaggards got started. Chad also contributed backing vocals to Davee's 2004 album Is Anyone Driving This Bus? (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kFflQHpZXsF_i1S8rYSltIdNiJ8_iyBd4) produced by Jack Saunders. This episode concludes with a clip of Davee performing his excellent original song "The Only One" at the Foundry in Athens, GA, September 2015, filmed by his daughter Missy (original video (https://youtu.be/NFMeJE6Imqk)). What do we want to be remembered for? Jack Saunders looks at the Old Testament character of David and the range of famous stories which come to mind, from his battles as a youth to his leadership and preparation of a temple in his old age. But his memorable passion for being after God's heart probably came from the range and depths of his worship. To be that good at worship, David must not have just shown up to lead it in public, but privately pursued worship as a passion. What space and commitments are we making in our lives to develop who we are in ways which will memorably show up in relationships with others, and what can we do if we want more of this?
What is it like to be a leader with a calling from God to pioneer into places where his ways are not always accepted?Bern Leckie discusses the story of Joshua with Jack Saunders, who is also a youth and student leader at Severn Vineyard and has a sense of his own calling to share his faith and live faithfully according to his hope in God.Can we get the full picture about the life God wants for people from Joshua's story, or do we need to look further ahead in the Bible? Where does Jesus come into all this? And if it is a good idea for us to share our faith today with people who have different beliefs, how can we do that?

Can we imagine waiting for a lifetime to fulfil our purpose? Jack Saunders looks at the story of Joshua and considers his decades-long wait for God to use him to lead his people into the land God promised them. The process of moving into this land probably seems to us like a strange and challenging one, but to Joshua it was a matter of obedience to God and trusting him to sort out the rest. How do we feel about that, and what could happen if we trust God more?

What kinds of victory make the biggest difference to us? Jack Saunders looks at the military victory many were hoping that Jesus would deliver, and how surprising it was that he brought a different kind of victory which would lead to new life for believers. Where in our lives would the ability to live and love like Jesus produce victory we need today?
We had the pleasure of interviewing Electric Enemy over Zoom video! Buzzing out of the London, England rock scene, Electric Enemy have shared their new single “Sweet Tooth” out today via Circular Wave. The single immediately draws in the listener with a blistering guitar line and singer Jim Lawson's distinctive voice before heading into a dreamy, melodic break and then picking right back up again. Centered around love, and lust, at first sight, the lyrics dive into the rush of being completely captivated by another person. “Sweet Tooth” was recorded at Fish Factory Studios with the band's long-time collaborator, friend and producer Sam Miller (Alberta Cross, Razorlight), working together to create a sound that is vintage and modern at the same time. The video for the track takes on this same feel, winding through a whirlwind of color, polaroids, and performance shots that match the energy of the song. Sitting somewhere between the classic rock of the Foo Fighters and newer acts like Des Rocs and Royal Blood, Electric Enemy are setting out to make rock music with a mission that truly feels “electric”. Combining introspective lyrics with compelling melodies and dynamic musicianship, the band has cracked a formula that has made them a need to know act in the UK and beyond. Singles “Voices” (2021) and “Heartache Melody” (2022) have already given the band a taste of streaming success and BBC Radio 1 host Jack Saunders noted “There's something in the water here.” “Sweet Tooth” marks the fourth single from a series of releases that will combine to form an EP set for release this Spring and the band is already hard at work on their first full-length. Electric Enemy is James “Jim“ Lawton (vocals and guitar), Orlando Formaro (lead guitar), and Thomas “Tom“ Romer-Smith (drums). We want to hear from you! Calva Louise is one of the most exciting modern alternative bands on the planet. I have played the shit out of them since launching WWTR a little over a year ago, ha. Here's their bio. "Their eclectic sound is a molotov cocktail, encompassing ambitious songwriting and searing guitar hooks. Jess, Alizon, and Ben crossed paths in London during 2016, forming the band and quickly supporting the likes of Highly Suspect, Albert Hammond Jr., and Razorlight on tour. Since the band started, Calva Louise's songs have found heavy rotation across BBC1 with Jack Saunders, Huw Stephens, Annie Mac and Abbie McCarthy, BBC6 Music with Lauren Laverne, Steve Lamacq, Shaun Keaveny and the legendary Iggy Pop, X-posure with John Kennedy, as well as a live session at BBC Maida Vale Studios." We had the pleasure of interviewing Boy Destroy over Zoom video! Swedish rising alt-star Boy Destroy releases his debut EP, Warpaint, via his own independent label, Loyalty Obsession. Warpaint is a multi-hued chronicle, showcasing Boy Destroy's genre-bending prowess; influenced by '90s alternative rock which soundtracked his teens, as well as delving into legacy artists like Jeff Buckley and Joni Mitchell, alongside modern emo and trap. The opening, title-track serves as a stellar introduction, addressing scars and the digital apathy of young lives, fusing into "You Don’t Want Me When I’m Sober" which juxtaposes vulnerable lyricism, addressing addiction with infectious pop sensibilities, commanding trap beats, and punk guitar hooks. “Favourite" sees Boy Destroy toy with acoustic guitar for a sample heavy slow jam that’s simultaneously commanding and sensual, indulging in primal instincts and putting your life on the devil's altar. The confessional "As Time Goes By" follows, supported by poignant keys and static trap beats, as "Beautiful Crimes" shines vibrantly in a nostalgic alt-R&B meets emo ditty, where Boy Destroy confesses the part he played in a toxic relationship. The EP culminates with the transgressive swaggering shoegaze pop of "Lights Out," yearning in life’s fleeting moments. In just under a year Boy Destroy has firmly solidified his unique identity within alternative music with a trailblazing approach to the genre, quickly securing support from BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders who after several plays made debut single “Warpaint" his 'Tune of the Week’ stating, “Boy Destroy really has a handle on big time pop music in 2020 with that real strong trap beat that glides over the top of the very lonely flux grunge guitar line. The lyrics are just stunning.” Rock Sound Magazine described the single as. “a display of raw creativity and beautiful darkness that promises great things to come," and Alternative Press included him in their ‘50 New Artists You Need To Hear’ column proclaiming, “Add ‘Warpaint’ and ‘As Time Goes By’ to your playlists and you’ll be able to say you heard Boy Destroy before he blew up with the 2021 release of his debut EP”, alongside securing further fans with Apple Music Radio 1, Wonderland, Upset Magazine, Discovered Magazine and Gigwise. 0:00- Who we are, why we're doing this podcast, and why we care about personal finance. Meet to co-hosts of the show, Jack Saunders and Tyler Runnals. 14:20- Setting up a checking account. There are a few main thing you should focus on when deciding on which checking account you should open. Look for account that offer virtually 0 fees, especially look for accounts that ATM reimbursements, because paying for ATM fees really should no longer have to be a thing anyone as to worry about. Also you should be looking for an account tat as an easy-to-use interface, and one that you are comfortable using. 23:23- Setting up a saving account. This is the second most important account you should set up. When setting up a savings account, you should be looking for a bank that offers "high interest rates", which are around 2% - 2.5%. Secondly look for a bank that doesn't require an account minimum or any charge you any other outlandish fees. Your savings account is a good place for your "emergency fund" or to save up for any other big goals. 32:23- Wrap up. A big tip is to not open your checking and savings accounts with the same bank, just so that you are not tempted to quickly transfer money in and out of your savings account. Also having these accounts with different banks allows you to not be constantly looking at that savings account number every time you go into your checking account, resulting in you almost forgetting the money is in your savings account, and not being tempted to use it. Some of the most esteemed and enduring brands are those that build in their customers an emotional connection – they give us more than just practical function. A few of those them seemingly manage to create own worlds, and come to represent a lifestyle and system of values, too. One such brand is Rapha, the cycling sportswear company founded in 2004 – now with a global following, thanks to a biannual magazine, the international Rapha Cycling Club, its in-store cafes, and a 2007 collaboration with Paul Smith. Graphic identity and art direction has played a huge part in keeping this all coherent and consistent – and adding to or changing any part of the brand is delicate business. In discussion today: Jack Saunders and Paul Barnes, two people who are helping to nudge and navigate Rapha into a new iteration.
The first episode of the History Workshop Podcast. In this episode, six scholars in the early stages of their careers gather to discuss a big problem plaguing higher education: precarious working conditions for university lecturers and teachers. It's an issue that impacts thousands across the UK... if these conditions are left as they are, the quality of education in universities can only diminish, and we could be denied promising scholarship from a new generation of experts. Listen to Laura Schwartz, Harry Stopes, Rob Waters, Alva Traebert and Jack Saunders in conversation with History Workshop Online editor, Hannah Elias. Recorded at the Radical Histories/Histories of Radicalism conference at Queen Mary University of London.
Previous SRA Selector winner Jack Saunders gives some handy tips for the SRA Selector application process.
Last year, in association with the British Council and the Student Radio Association, Folded Wing picked a group of student presenters who presented a special SRA version of The Selector on their university stations for six months. At the end of the period they were asked to submit an entry of their best show, and a winner was chosen! Jack Saunders of Nottingham Trent University's station Fly FM was selected as the winner, and wins a trip to Mexico City with the British Council. We got Jack into the studio, along with Goldierocks and the British Council's Phil Catchpole to talk about their experiences taking part in the project.
