Cinematographer Steve Yedlin (GLASS ONION, STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI, LOOPER) joins us on this episode of the Team Deakins Podcast to discuss the nuts and bolts (and truth!) of cinematography. We touch on Steve's early-career projects and on the start of his enduring creative partnership with director Rian Johnson during their time at USC. Later, we consider the benefits and shortcomings of film school and which parts of cinematography can really be taught, and we reflect on the nature of luck in one's career. Steve shares how he and Rian approached designing the look of THE LAST JEDI and LOOPER, and he shares why, during production, he avoids focusing on things that belong in the proper domain of post. Towards the end, we discuss Steve's presentation (available on his website) concerning the nature of resolution as simply a tool of measurement and not a look maker, and we consider the seemingly newfound desire to “do it the old way” and the elusive definition of the word filmic. - This episode is sponsored by Aputure Instagram: @aputure.lighting
EPISODE 1906: In this KEEN ON show, Andrew talks to Noa Yedlin, author of STOCKHOLM: A NOVEL, explains why literary humor isn't a funny thing and imagines the kind of character Netanyahu might be in a novelNoa Yedlin is an Israeli author, the recipient of the Sapir Prize (the Israeli Man Booker) and the Prime Minister's Literature Award and author of the bestselling House Arrest, Stockholm, People Like Us and The Wrong Book. Yedlin was named by Haaretz Magazine one of "66 Israeli Women You Should Know". Yedlin is also the creator of a two-season TV series based on her bestselling novel Stockholm (the Israeli Best Mini-Series TV Award). A German remake of the series (You Don't Die Among Friends) won Best Scripted Format at 2021 International Format Awards and Best European Series at La Rochelle Festival De La Fiction 2021. The series is now being re-made by SVT Sweden (broadcast: Christmas 2022). Her bestselling novel People Like Us is currently being developed into a series in Israel. A stage adaption of House Arrest is now playing at Beit Lessin Theater in Tel Aviv. Yedlin is considered one of Israel's top writers. Her novels – widely known for their dark and subtle humor - sketch with biting precision the complex relationships both within the family and outside of it, while capturing and deconstructing the spirit of the times. Yedlin deals with global phenomena that infiltrate the personal realm and shape our everyday lives - the rise and fall of social elites, shifts in the balance of power and the never-ending battle between individualism and conformism. Noa Yedlin's new novel, The Wrong Book, was published in Israel May 2022 by Kinneret Zmora Dvir Publishing House and has been starring at the top of the best-sellers' list ever since.Named as one of the "100 most connected men" by GQ magazine, Andrew Keen is amongst the world's best known broadcasters and commentators. In addition to presenting KEEN ON, he is the host of the long-running How To Fix Democracy show. Next, we look at the issues facing ‘newcomers' to the city, when it comes to dealing with the uptick of crime on city streets. We discuss with Anila Lee Yeun, CEO of the ‘Centre for Newcomers”. We are all feeling the pinch of higher prices in all areas of our lives, particularly when it comes to the cost of energy. We catch up with Global Calgary Reporter Sarah Offin for details on newly announced rebate programs by the Federal Government, aimed at easing the burden on consumers. Finally, with interest rates continuing to rise, what does this mean for homeowners and first time buyers looking to get into the market? Entrevista al senador Senador Nacional de Tucumán por el Frente de Todos, Pablo Yedlin. En el programa #AhoraDicen de futurock.fm
This is the story of DeAndre Yedlin. DeAndre broke through at Seattle Sounders and impressed the world of football during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, when he played a brilliant game versus Belgium. Eden Hazard, who already was a bonafide superstar back then, had a hard time dealing with Yedlin's pace and energy. This spectacular breakthrough performance earned Yedlin a move to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. He later played for Sunderland and would spend the majority of his career in England at Newcastle United. After a brief stint at Turkish giants Galatasaray, DeAndre Yedlin returned to the United States this year, to sign for David Beckham's Inter Miami. It's been almost eight years since he left home. So we hopped on a call with DeAndre, to reflect on his years in European football, and to find out what his life's like in Miami.- See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
We begin with our monthly conversation with Deborah Yedlin, President and CEO of the Calgary Chamber. We discuss the long-standing issue of high vacancy in Calgary's downtown office towers and what can be done to revitalize the ‘core. Could you be replaced by ‘automation' at your job? We discuss the impact technology is having on Canada's workforce and what the future holds for the job market. We speak with Geraint Harvey from Western University. Then, we continue the discussion surrounding Cannabis with our “on-air contributor” Dave McIvor In part two of his series, Dave does some ‘mythbusting' surrounding Cannabis, including the claim that users cannot become addicted. Finally, we look at the issue of ‘Cannabis Poisoning' in household pets. We speak with Veterinarian Dr. Sarah Mitchell about how you can identify the symptoms of cannabis poisoning in your dog or cat and what you should do if your pet has ingested the drug. David Gass is joined by Franco Panizo of Sun Sentinel to discuss Inter Miami's hot streak and what is going right (and wrong) for the club.

Welcome to the MWSA podcast for Tuesday, July 6. Calgary City Council made it official Monday, rescinding their mask bylaw. It's been in place since July 20, 2020. Mayor Naheed Nenshi weighs in on the decision, as does University of Calgary Infectious Disease Specialist, Dr. Craig Jenne. The Calgary Chamber rolled out their new President this week. Deborah Yedlin has extensive background here in the city, and she has a vision for the future of Calgary businesses. It may sound like a “Dirty Job," but testing wastewater coming out of hospitals could be a great way to catch outbreaks of diseases like COVID-19 in a timely fashion. We have details on a new study on the topic, from a Professor of Microbiology and Immunology. Restrictions around travel are being lifted, and people are starting to book trips. But, it's not exactly "smooth sailing" in the travel industry. “The Travel Lady,” Lesley Keyter says there are many hurdles still to jump for operators.
--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/urbanaplayfm/message
