This Week on Multiverse News! Between last weekend's New York Comic Con and the regular news cycle, this week has treated us to some tasty, and maybe not so tasty, Marvel morsels. The most substantial news impacting the MCU was the official March 4, 2025 release date for Daredevil: Born Again on Disney Plus and, per an exclusive with Collider, the Russos confirmed Avengers: Doomsday will begin filming next spring. Elsewhere, while speaking on the Rich Roll Podcast, Tom Holland chimed in with his excitement after having read the script for his upcoming, fourth Spider-Man film, saying that there were still things for the writers to figure out and work on, but that it is a real movie, worthy of the fans' respect. Finally, today Disney removed Blade, which was slated for November 7, 2025, from its release calendar. Taking a hard left turn, let's talk some DC, where James Gunn debuted the official trailer for Creature Commandos. During the Comic Con panel, cast and crew, including Gunn, executive producer Dean Lorey and Alan Tudyk to name a few, highlighted the animated series' mature, violent tone and Eastern European aesthetic, even comparing it to the TV show Lost; and cited how voices were cast with live action appearances and integration specifically considered. While celebrating the series' unique identity in the context of the DCU, Gunn of course couldn't miss the opportunity to provide minor updates for Peacemaker Season 2, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Lanterns and Superman, promising, “It won't be too long before we see a trailer, but it also won't be too soon.” HBO's Dune: Prophecy treated fans with a new trailer and an official release date coming out of NYCC: the series will premiere Sunday, Nov. 17. The official logline for the series reads, “From the expansive universe of ‘Dune,' created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, ‘Dune: Prophecy' follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit.” The season is made up of six episodes and will release on Sundays on HBO and Max. Netflix has released the official trailer for the Russo Brothers' upcoming sci fi action movie “The Electric State,” starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt. The film begins streaming on March 14th, 2025. Shrinking has been renewed for season 3 at AppleTV+. Josh Brolin and Lee Pace are currently in final negotiations to star opposite Glen Powell in The Running Man, Paramount's adaptation of the Stephen King novel. Both actors will portray villains in the film. Amazon MGM Studios is reportedly casting new leads in their 20s for Mr. and Mrs. Smith Season 2, with singer Billie Eilish among rumored contenders for the one-year roles of John and Jane. At New York Comic Con, AMC released the first trailer for Season 2 of Walking Dead: Dead City and announced that it will begin streaming sometime in the spring of 2025. Blumhouse showcased exclusive MEGAN 2.0 footage, with the killer doll teasing she's received an "upgrade" in a special NYCC message. With production complete, the sequel is set to release on June 27, 2025. Blumhouse also unveiled a new trailer for Leigh Whannel's The Wolfman starring Julia Garner and Christopher Abbott. Also during the Blumhouse NYCC panel, Director Mike Flanagan spoke about his new version of The Exorcist, which he considers "the scariest movie ever made." Beyond Flanagan expressing his excitement to tackle the iconic property, no additional details about the project were revealed at the NYCC panel. Following the success of the original film, director Scott Derrickson and writer C. Robert Cargill are returning for The Black Phone 2, bringing back Ethan Hawke and the original cast for what Derrickson describes as a "high school coming-of-age film" based on an idea from author Joe Hill.
How can a prequel be "Chapter 3"? Why is the second movie "Chapter 2" in the first place? That's not really how books work. Whatever. This week we're talking INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3! It takes place before the Lambert's ordeal, and it's Leigh Whannel's directorial debut. In our third segment we discuss what makes movies scary! It
Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for information about all your favorite fictional Universes Florence Pugh tempted the ire of Marvel Studios' infamous snipers, when she shared a video tour of the Thunderbolts set via social media last week. Though the video was clearly staged and was sparse on reveals and details, it did give us our first official look at Yelena Belova's new combat-ready getup. A clear departure from Marvel's typical airtight protocol. Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire enjoyed a $194 million global debut last week, enough to place it as the third highest grossing film of the year after just one weekend of release. The movie is the fifth film in Legendary's MonsterVerse franchise, which includes the recent Apple TV Plus series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Though not connected to recent Oscar winner, Godzilla: Minus One, this opening clearly shows a renewed interest in all things Godzilla. Star Trek's Kelvin Timeline, that is the Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana-led and JJ Abrams-produced films, may be getting a fourth and final film, as Steve Yockey has been added as a screenwriter. Yockey is best known for creating the Max series The Flight Attendant, starring Kaley Cuoco. Three previous screenwriters had been attached to the project, including WandaVision showrunner and Fantastic Four director Matt Shakman. Star Trek hasn't been on the big screen since 2016's Star Trek: Beyond, but has enjoyed a lot of success with various streaming series. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer went two for two the last couple of weeks here on Multiverse News. Last week teasing a return of the Pirates franchise and now a possible third film in the National Treasure franchise, all during his promotion of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. While his comments were vague, they were optimistic – speaking to his confidence in an unnamed writer working on a script that only needs Nic Cage's approval. The Mandalorian and Quantumania actor Katy O'Brian has been cast in Mission: Impossible 8. Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson and frequent collaborator C. Robert Cargill, will adapt a new version of the acclaimed 1953 crime novel The Night of the Hunter for Universal. Final Destination Bloodlines has added to its main cast. Brec Bassinger, who starred in The CW's DC series Stargirl, Chucky actor Teo Briones and Dear Evan Hansen stage actress Kaitlyn Santa Juana, The 100 star Richard Harmon, Gotham Knights actress Anna Lore and Owen Patrick Joyner, one of the stars of Netflix series Julie and the Phantoms will all star in leading roles in the sixth installment of the franchise which is now in production. A sequel to the 2003 Disney body swap comedy Freaky Friday seems to be in the works, as Chippendale's director Nisha Ganatra has been attached and stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are currently in negotiations to return. Scream 7 looks to add another series regular after the return of Neve Campbell, with Courteney Cox in talks to reprise her role as Gale Weathers. Ezra Miller was quietly replaced by Eric Bauza for their voice role as a minor antagonist in Amazon's Invincible. Universal Pictures has postponed two Blumhouse horror films. Leigh Whannel's Wolf Man will now premiere on January 17, 2025, three months later than planned. The Woman in the Yard was removed from the schedule, but will be rescheduled. Louis Gossett Jr., the Oscar and Emmy-winning actor known for roles in Watchmen and The Punisher, has passed away at 87. He was the first Black man to win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for An Officer and a Gentleman and also earned an Emmy for Roots. Chance Perdomo, who starred in the television series Gen V and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, has died as a result of a motorcycle accident. He was 27. A new poster was released for Joker: Folie à Deux along with the tease for an incoming trailer on April 9 by Lady Gaga herself. The film will release on October 4.

Saw IV is the beginning of a new era in the franchise. John Kramer is Dead. Amanda is dead. Leigh Whannel is no longer writing. And Mark Hoffman is here. What do you mean who? Mark Hoffman. The cop who was in like 30 seconds of the last movie. Turns out the twist of IV is that a character that was barely established in the previous film is the true successor of Jigsaw. Kind of. Like Amanda, Mark isn't very good at his job--in my humblest of opinions. At least he's hot though. We also look deeper into John Kramer and what made him the way he was. And let's just say he had a really rough year. Listen, buddy, we all have rough years but that doesn't mean we can all just go out and start “testing” “people” on their “will” “to live”. Insidious is the scary origin story of Darth Maul. Listen as Bryce and Max dissect this modern classic. Synopsis Insidious is a movie about the lambert family, Josh played by Patrick Wilson and his wife Renae played by Rose Byrne who i love, have just moved into a new home when their son Dalton played by some little boy slips into a mysterious coma. Unable to wake the boy the Lamberts feel defeated, and just when they think things cant get worse they start to experience INSIDIOUS activity in the house. After attempting to rid themselves of the apparitions the old fashioned way - moving - they realize that they are in way over their heads and seek help from a psychic medium. Wacky hijinks ensue. Eventually, they are able to learn more about the INSIDIOUS forces preying on their son, but are they focusing too much on the wrong thing? The movie is directed by James Wan, who you might recall directed little-known movies like Saw and the Conjuring and Aquaman. The writer Leigh Whannel who also plays a goofy ghost hunter is also the same guy who plays Adam in Saw. Review of insidious Now onto my review of Insidious. Insidious is a chaotic movie that throws a lot at the wall hoping something will stick. Luckily for James Wan, some of it does and we are left with a movie that is imperfect, but enjoyable none the less. The movie attempts to scare the viewer in many different ways but mostly relies on being creepy and jump scaring you when you least expect it. It even has one of the most notable jump scares in horror movie history which Im sure we will cover in the spoilers section. While Im not usually a fan of super quiet scenes that end with a really loud noise meant to startle you, insidious does do this well a couple of times. The acting is sometimes a little over the top for me, but how could I be mad when I get to stare at Patrick and Roses beautiful faces for 1 hour and 43 minutes. In the end we are left with a classic for the 2010s era of horror and a personal favorite of mine because it reminds me of being a teenager. Score 7/10
Would you leave your family and friends in order to save the human race? We would too. In a heart beat. The fuck we care about you for? Deuces. Every movie we discuss will be available on either: Netflix, Hulu, HBO MAX, Youtube, Tubi, Freevee, or Amazon Prime. "I want to play a game." Join us as we discuss Saw! James Wan and Leigh Whannel were fresh out of college when they wrote the script and did everything they could to get it made. We talk about their journey, the constraints on the production, how it became (at one point in time) the highest grossing horror franchise and MUCH MORE!
Christian and Elle are in the worst bathroom imaginable, but still having a great time. At the end of each Overkill episode we answer the question- are we still in on this franchise or is it overkill? We start a fun and gruesome franchise with this episode by talking about SAW. We dig into the instant success, well-timed cancer screenings, and how 9/11 impacted the initial story. We also discuss The Princess Bride, cigarettes, and escape rooms. We'd love to hear your thoughts, questions, or any requests you have. You can contact us at: feedback@itsonlyapodcast.com and on your social media of choice.
Beware the stare of Mary Shaw. She had no children, only dolls. And if you see her in your dreams... You BEST bet'not scream!!! Tf? Today on ScaryCrit, we're taking a trip down to dreary Raven's Fair to hang with the good sis Mary and her vociferous dolls and dish about Dead Silence (2007). A brainchild of the fathers of Saw (2005), Leigh Whannel and James Wan, we have a fun time analyzing how this film holds up in the possessed/haunted doll subgenre, toying with the idea of if the movie were from another character's perspective, defining the "curse" of Mary Shaw, and pondering how the Dead Silence we got wasn't originally the one James and Leigh had in mind. It's time for a buzzworthy good time as we get into a movie that changed and really cut into the horror genre: James Wan and Leigh Whannel's Saw (2004)! Character analyses, Jigsaw's motives, Danny Glover being typecast, the legacy of the Saw franchise and how well Saw would've worked if it was a standalone film rather than a series—these are just some of the "rules" discussed in this game of an episode, as well as a hello from one of our interns! This week! Brett gets anxious over a certain IG comment from a certain musician, Tim watches Mobile Suit Gundam I on a whim (and isn't mad about it, but maybe a little confused), Napoleon Dynamite is weirder than you remember, and maybe you should try frozen peanut butter! Spider One from Powerman 5000 left a comment on our IG, Brett panics when he tries to talk about music and forgot about his boxers, and we had no idea how awesome Leigh Whannel's resume is.
We are back for yet another episode of that Podcast everyone thought wouldn't make it to 10 full episodes!!!! Today we are just juicin' around with a really good friend, Pablo, whose friendship also started on the ever so popular Social Media Platform "The Discord". We both love the Horror Genre and have a very particular taste for certain Horror Films. Recently, we both came into glorious possession of the recently restored 4K copy of 2004's Saw. Written by Leigh Whannel and Directed by James Wan, there truly is much to appreciate if not even acknowledge from a film of this nature. Is it as good as when it first came out or better? Are the sequels worth watching at all after this first film? Should you go see the newest movie Spiral? These answers and more are some of the topics we share with you all in this very fun conversation. https://boxd.it/1S0YLZ Thank you all so much for listening, until next time, we're... SPOILER ALERT! Presenting a special episode of the latest entry in the Saw franchise: Spiral! With Darren Bousman, James Wan, and Leigh Whannel back at the helm, the 9th installment of the series sees Chris Rock grapple with a new Jigsaw copycat killer. The gals see and review Spiral during its opening weekend and get very much into the details, so watch it first before listening! Edited by Megan Prior-Pfeifer. Music by Zach Pfeifer.
In honor of Spiral coming out, Justin and Aleah look back on James Wan and Leigh Whannel's original movie from 2004. The movie that kickstarted an entire franchise full of blood, gore, and madness. Today, the Brides are one hundred percent going to make sense of James Wan's 2010 film, Insidious. We swear. By the end of the episode, we will understand why this haunted house story turns in the last 40 minutes into a story about astral projection??? With a ton of ghost mythos that never fully gets explained???? And Lin Shaye wearing a gas mask to channel ghosts during a seance?????? We don't even know, guys - this movie is straight up the most frustrating we've ever covered, and we did Children of the Corn this season! But all that said, what this movie does right, it does in stunningly spooky fashion, and it's a solid warmup for James Wan and writer Leigh Whannel's spectacular follow-up, The Conjuring (which we raved about last season!). We also discuss the perfection that is Patrick Wilson - even though his character is kind of a douche - and the fact that the demon with a red face looks way too much like Darth Maul to be truly effective. Also, this movie contains the biggest plot hole we've ever covered on the show. We're still mad. Side note: take a shot every time Alysa compares something Insidious does, to something The Conjuring does better. You won't survive the episode. Insidious. 2010. Directed by James Wan. Written by Leigh Whannel. Starring Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Barbara Hershey, and Ty Simpkins.

Yeah yeah .. .we KNOW that technically some of these films have 2019 release dates, but we *saw* them in 2020 and … c’mon give us a break please #2020 Lisa says check out Ma Rainey's Black Bottom … errr .. only she doesn’t. All will be revealed, just listen on … Brian digs up some great, easily-missed gems. Meanwhile Dean puts on his grumpy face and dishes dirt on his nomination for the LEAST deserving Best Picture film of all time … (mainly because it happened in the year his beloved Blade Runner 2049 was not even NOMINATED). Yes Academy ... Dean is looking at you ! So this episode is a love-in for the stuff that nourished us throughout this shit-show, forever to be known as 2020. BREAKING! Lisa has been working with acclaimed director Taika Waititi (Thor, Jo Jo Rabbit, Hunt for the Wilderpeople) to cast his new series Reservation Dogs. More here https://www.indiewire.com/2020/12/taika-waititis-2021-schedule-reservation-dogs-1234607085/ And now, on with the show .. Check that out here https://podcastnotes.org/hardcore-history/ep12-wolf-pack-hunting-with-hanks-tom-hanks-on-dan-carlins-hardcore-history-addendum/ Dean got his wetsuit on to watch two underwater doco’s, ‘My Octopus Teacher’ https://www.imdb.com/video/vi3668033817?playlistId=tt12888462&ref_=tt_ov_vi And ‘Last Breath’ https://www.imdb.com/video/vi3035282457?playlistId=tt9056818&ref_=tt_ov_vi Dean's cave diving mate Richard 'Harry' Harris and his interview with Chris Lemons on his @realrisk podcast https://realriskpodcast.com/s2-e10-life-on-a-line-saturation-diving-with-chris-lemons-pt-1/ And finally for Dean .. how do you film a movie about an “Invisible Man’ ? Well you put Leigh Whannel behind the camera, and Elizabeth Moss in front of it, and all is good. A cracking modern thriller with very topical themes of Domestic Violence and Coercive Control. Finally the hard-to-watch ‘Uncut Gems’ with Adam Sandler in (another) great serious role (leave the comedy behind please Adam) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5727208/ In terms of what we are looking forward to, Brian sez checkout: Avengers spinoff ‘Wanda Vision’ https://www.techradar.com/news/wandavision-release-date-trailer-disney-plus Ted Danson vehicle ‘Mr. Mayor’ https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10662034 And Carey Mulligan in ‘Promising Young Woman’ https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9620292 Lisa has a hankering for: ‘The Sound of Metal’ https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5363618/ Catching up on ‘Mank’ https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10618286 Dean sez: Keep an eye out for Eric Bana in a taut Aussie thriller called ‘The Dry’ https://youtu.be/HwJhS4O_IdM His unrequited crush Denis Villeneuve, is releasing his much anticipated version of Dune, attempting to expunge the hideous red-headed step child that *was* David Lynch’s version with Kyle McLachlan https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1160419 And although he didn’t get to say it on the pod, Dean is also looking forward to a couple of tent poles like Top Gun 2 and the final Daniel Craig Bond film. Ray Shoesmith was right. The new guy is good. Connery rocks. Moore sucks. The rest are irrelevant. Finally, check out the Guardian’s round up of Best pics of 2020 that you may have missed https://www.theguardian.com/film/2020/dec/29/the-best-films-of-2020-that-you-havent-seen Likewise, what to anticipate in 2021 (apart from a double-shot of vaccine) https://www.theguardian.com/film/2020/dec/29/films-to-look-out-for-in-2021-bond-mcdormand-mulligan-top-gun That’s your lot then for 2020. We’ll see on the GOOD side of the decade !!!
It's been a crazy and unconventional year, so we wanted to end it in a crazy and unconventional way -- by hosting our first ever New Year's Eve Staff Party! So many of our show favorites are with us (Andy Whitfield, Steve Beckley, Blake Collier, Vera Goudie, and Jacob Hunt) to count down the listener voted favorite horror of 2020, but also to have a fun dialogue about what the year has brought and what we've learned and what we hope for in the coming new year.Operating in a fun, round-table style game, questions about the year and about ourselves (as well as several questions discussions about Leigh Whannel's THE INVISIBLE MAN) arise and spark fun, thoughtful, and honest reflections about who we are and where we are.We hope you enjoy this uniquely formatted episode and we hope you all have a very safe and very Happy New Year, never forgetting that the Fear of God is the beginning of wisdom but not the end of the conversation. So in that spirit, we urge you to fear nothing else and be on your way rejoicing.Happy New Year everyone!-All the FoGgy links-On the webFacebookTwitterInstagramReed on TwitterNathan on TwitterMerchandise available hereYouTube

O Talking Horror se une com os membros do A2R Podcast para discutir sobre o filme “O Homem Invisível”, de Leigh Whannel.
Prepare to be scared, Fright Fans!! Today I am joined once again by Spency Domepiece and Squishy as we take a dive into not one, but two fright features: Saw (2004) and Saw II (2005)!! Not your typical horror series, the Saw movies together are like a tightly written TV Series in which later films not only reference, but explain things from earlier films. Saw's reputation precedes it, and it is a far more than a gore film, and definitely NOT torture porn like Hostel! We encourage you to brave these two films, then listen to our discussion as we break them down and discuss the truly human aspects of these movies along with the scares, that make them so popular. As always, please leave us a great review at iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, or wherever you download your podcasts, so others can find the show! Join the conversation on our facebook page, facebook.com/thenisnowpodcast, and visit our website havenpodcasts.com for other fun stuff including our sister show, The East Meets the West, in which we discuss Spaghetti Westerns and Shaw Brothers films! If you would like to contact us directly about this show or any other, please email us at thenisnow42@gmail.com. Stay Scary! Re-Gor

Saw may have dulled over time, but it is still a good horror movie and was definitely influential during the 2000s. The simple premise of catch-22 torture traps is an effective hook, but sometimes the twisty turny plot is a bit forced. (0:29) - Intro(8:41) - Synopsis(10:09) - Review(18:33) - Score(24:03) - Spoilers(1:16:12) - Horror Movie Talk Whoooores(1:31:39) - Outro @dgoebel00 on instagram Synopsis Saw is mainly about two strangers trapped in a High School boys bathroom with a mysterious dead body. They are both chained to pipes just out of reach of each other and the dead body in the middle of the room. They find that they are being toyed with by a villain named Jigsaw, who set up a trap to pit them against each other in a race against time. They are both left with the tool to escape, a saw blade too dull to saw through metal chains/pipes, but just the right sharpness to saw through an ankle. Wacky hijinks ensue. Saw Poster https://youtu.be/S-1QgOMQ-ls Review of Saw Saw has dulled over time, but it’s still a good horror movie. It was the first film of the now well established horror director/writers James Wan and Leigh Whannel. It feels like a short film stretched to fill a feature length film, and Wan and Whannel did make a short before this movie, but it was originally written as a feature length script and the short was an excerpt from it. It’s undeniable that this movie and it’s sequels have made a mark in the pantheon of horror movies based off of the simple concept of catch-22 torture traps. The problem that the franchise faces and has from the beginning is the need to stretch out the simple premise with overly complicated labyrinthian plots and character motives. The original Saw is well constructed and has an engaging plot that unravels nicely, but it’s still at its heart, a cheap exploitational premise. Definitely one of the years best and most surprising films, expertly helmed by director Leigh Whannel - whose low budget Aussie sci-fi, Upgrade, I recently raved about. A thrilling new take of an old story that perfectly fits with modern concerns.

It's been a while since we did a B-sides show - those intermittent collections of new cinema releases that we didn't cover at the time of release. And that's largely because, er, there aren't any cinemas open - but that doesn't stop Sarah, Rob and Graham from having some films from January, February and March to consider. For Rob, there's two of the biggest films of the year - Sam Mendes's World War One-Take epic 1917 and Leigh Whannel's revisionist take on The Invisible Man. Sarah has Michael Winterbottom's Greed, starring Steve Coogan as Not Philip Green, and true-life sexual harassment drama Bombshell. She and Graham also cover Misbehaviour, in which a frankly huge ensemble tell the story of the protests at the 1970 Miss World pageant. Give us a twirl. To be completely transparent, it's clear that Leigh Whannel's "The Invisible Man" is the best of Universal's Dark Universe (and that's not saying much!) The Invisible Man is the first horror movie of the year worth... seeing. Writer/director Leigh Whannel reframes the H.G. Wells source material in a thrilling and fresh adaptation. After two months of truly mediocre horror releases, The Invisible Man is a gasp of fresh air. Artwork by @dgoebel00 on instagram. Follow him and check out his website. Film Synopsis The Invisible Man follows Cecilia, played by Elizabeth Moss, as she fearfully escapes her manipulative and violently abusive boyfriend Adrian, played by Oliver Jackson-Cohen. Soon after she leaves him, he commits suicide and leaves her a considerable amount of money in his will. Her deceased ex was one of the world’s foremost experts on optics and was very wealthy. Cecilia is still mentally scarred by their abusive ex, that she finds it hard to believe that he is actually dead. This seemingly unreasonable paranoia gets confirmed to her as she is haunted and by an unseen tormentor. This Invisible Man ramps up the terror and violence to the point that everyone around Cecilia assumes that she is having a mental break. Even her closest friends and family don’t believe her, leaving her hopeless as she tries to defend herself. She struggles to prove that her ex is still alive and continuing his abuse while he actively tries to frame her for murder. Review of The Invisible Man I’ll tell you what. This movie is a breath of fresh air after a stagnant two months of new releases in the horror category. It’s is written and directed by Leigh Whannell who you might know as the writer/director of Upgrade, or as an actor in The Bye Bye Man. He shows himself to be very competent at writing and directing with this film. Want to Watch The Invisible Man?Click here to watch on AmazonClick to Watch The skill of Whannel is shown in the opening of The Invisible Man, which follows the motto of “show don’t tell”. So much is communicated about Cecilia and Adrian’s relationship just from her actions and facial expressions in the first 5 minutes of the film. The film also shows a lot of well tuned restraint by not focusing on the sci-fi elements like most other Invisible Man movies do. It’s themes explore the topic of abuse in a really interesting and thought- provoking way. Abusive partners are often “invisible” to the world since that side of the abusers personality isn’t often shown to others. The historical abuse of Cecilia in this film feels real and tangible, even though it’s never shown in flashbacks. It’s communicated through the aftereffects and trauma that Cecilia displays. This is a great example of a thriller that leans into the horror aspects of that label. There are genuinely surprising moments and many times that I jumped out of my seat. This is a very very good movie, and you should definitely see it. Score for The Invisible Man (2020) 9/10 Spoilers Expand for spoilers section Adrian The Adrian character is pretty "invisible" to the audience throughout the whole movie. This isn't just because he is physically invisible, but also because his motives are murky, and we are only given second-third hand information about him from the other characters. We briefly get a glimpse of him when he attacks Cecilia in the car as she leaves, but we don't get a good look at him until the very end of the movie. It's very effective. Once we do see him, the charmed veneer is completely undercut by what we have witnessed throughout the movie, allowing the audience to experience the distrust that Cecilia experiences first hand. Cecilia's disbelief Cecilia when she is informed of Adrian's death,
Fans of horror movies and reboots rejoice! This episode’s main feature is Blumhouse Productions and Leigh Whannel’s reimagining of The Invisible Man. The filme stars Elizabeth Moss, so you sort of know it’s going to be a departure from the H.G. Wells novel that is its namesake, but maybe that’s a good thing. Guess you’ll have to listen to find out. Then, from fiendish to fiendishly difficult: It’s about time we revisited the IMDB game that we introduced awhile back and see who gets stumped by Will Ferrell movies this time around. Another re-upload previously unavailable to the iTunes audience, in this episode we review the incredibly effective, scary made-for-tv movie from the BBC called GHOSTWATCH (1992); a trend-setting, obscure to most flick about a documentary show filming a real-life haunted house. It's super-influencial, especially to those who are fans of James Wan's horror output, Mike Flannigan and Leigh Whannel.
This week we review the "Insidious" franchise. There are four movies total. The series was created/written by Leigh Whannel and James Wan. They also directed and produced several of the movies. We reviewed their other series "The Conjuring" in episode 7 and "Saw" in episode 28. Talk about some busy people! Joseph Bishara did the music for the "Insidious" franchise and played the lipstick faced demon. Did you know he also played Bathseba and the Annabelle demon in "The Conjuring"? Pretty cool. One of the most interesting things at this franchise is that the main character turns out to be a something something year old woman. You dont typically see that in horror movies and it's a breath of fresh air. Lin Shaye does an excellent job of making us care and root for Elise. GeeksWhoEat has also created a cocktail based on the series. The Further cocktail has a smokey blue color reminiscent of the purgatory that the Lamberts and Elise often visited. Before the Insidious and Conjuring Universes, all the way back in 2004, James Wan and partner Leigh Whannel made a small, simple movie that would shake up horror in film forever. Saw is a testament that with an iconic character, a catchy premise, and word of mouth, even a movie on a modest $1.2 million budget can go a long, long way. 15 years later, does the original in this long standing series deserve its place on the Mount Rushmore of horror franchises? It's episode 182, and if anyone tries to stop me, the old geezer gets it! RoboCop (1987) is the story of Alex Murphy, a police officer in dystopian Detroit who gets shot to bits by thugs and rebuilt as a part-man, part-machine enforcer. He's supposed to keep the peace, but does OCP, the shady corporation who built him, have an ulterior motive? Yes. Yes they do. We discuss the importance of iterative design, the faulty logic of kicking the groin of a metallic man, and why it should be less Cop and more Robo when it comes to designing your perfect cyborg enforcer. All of which leads to one important question: How would you survive? Whatever happens, one thing's for sure: Dead or alive, you're coming with me! Next week, it's we continue Cyber-Modification-Body-Horror season with Leigh Whannel's splatter-tastic Upgrade! (2018). Get in touch! HowtoSurviveShow@gmail.com Follow us on Twitter! @HowToSurvivePod
