SCRIPTURE: Daniel 3:4–7 (ESV) And the herald proclaimed aloud, “You are commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages, that when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, you are to fall down and worship the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. And whoever does not fall down and worship shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace.” Therefore, as soon as all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, all the peoples, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.Compromise: Good: to settle a dispute by mutual concessionBad: to accept standards that are lower than desirableVery Bad: to embrace standards below God's expressed willCOMPROMISE IS MORE THAN A SIN. SIN IS AN ACTION, WHILE COMPROMISE IS A COURSE OF ACTION.Daniel 3,4 - Babylon lead by Nebuchadnezzar Spiritually dark time. Like America, the King's world was influenced by corrupt politicians, business leaders, social elites, judges, dark priests, and people from academia with a few godly people in the mix.In Babylon were people of Israel, human trafficked into Babylon by the government. Some of their finest were elevated to political prominence Daniel 2:49 (ESV) Daniel made a request of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon. But Daniel remained at the king's court.God will promote you and use you to influence your world in spite of the evil around you!Their presence made influential people jealous, but more likely, agitated the demons that influenced the people of influence.Neb set up an image ninety feet tallDaniel 3:4 Gathered the nation so when the music kicked on, everyone was to bow down and worship the image.People participated on various levels:As a group, everyone participated wholeheartedly.Internally, people participated for various reasonsAll in on idolatryAfraid of losing jobDesire for promotionMeet the expectations of their sub-groupCrowd pressureVirtue signaling - good people do thisAfraid of the furnaceThere were hold-outs, and hold-outs were dealt with.Daniel 3:8 (ESV) Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came forward and maliciously accused the Jews.Daniel 3:12 (ESV) There are certain Jews whom you have appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, pay no attention to you; they do not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”Brought before NebDaniel 3:13 (ESV) Then Nebuchadnezzar in furious rage commanded that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought. So they brought these men before the king.Daniel 3:15 (ESV) Now if you are ready when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, well and good. But if you do not worship, you shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you out of my hands?”The Furnace: A Place Of DecisionA demand for compromise leading to safety from destructionAnd invitation for obedience the leads to promotionCommon Furnaces Of Compromise:Individuals, groups, organizations and communities.Instead of influencing them, they influence you Require ongoing compromiseThey strip you bare. You may survive but you will not thrive.Activities contrary to scriptureAddictionsAnger UnforgivenessCultural attitudes, values and practicesThings our culture embraces that occasionally demand our participation and celebration.I would not attend a ceremony to celebrate someone committing suicideI would not attend a ceremony to celebrate someone having an abortionI would not attend a ceremony to celebrate two men getting married.I would not attend Circumstances Miserable marriagePoverty financesPoor healthFamily TormentGenerational sinCompromise WillProvide escape from the furnace, offer quick rewards that will not lastInvite and permit unforeseen trappings to reside in your lifedamage your relationship with God, micro at first, macro when it is in full bloomCorrupt, over time, things He's already done/given youLimit future experiences/promotions Camouflage the touch of God on your lifeHis touch, his presence makes you different than othersIt makes you attractive to othersIt makes people want what you haveCompromise causes you to blend in Things That Will Not Break The Stronghold Of Compromise:Wishing for something differentPraying for things to be differentAdmission of MistakesSorrow For SinAsking For ForgivenessFacing Compromise: DECLARE // RENOUNCEDaniel 3:16–18 (ESV) Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.” Isaiah 43:1–3 (ESV) But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

Justin Timberlake said it best, "It's gotta be May!"It's the first of May, and not only is May Day a traditional communist "holiday", but it's also a signal of someone or some thing in distress. Like America.Andrew and Jerry break down what's going on on America's college campuses, talking about the origins of these crises, who is behind them in terms of their funding and coordination, and just what the future holds.  How the efforts to blame Trump for these crises ultimately underscore the role that Never Trumpers and those with Trump Derangement Syndrome have played in their eruption.  The double standards of the elite, and how a "rules for thee but not for me" mentality runs through the protests.  The element of LARPing (Live Action Roleplaying) that seems to also be an undercurrent, as Gen Zers take cues from Gen Xers who want to live up to their academic mentors' 1960s experiences.  Not just double standards for the elite, but how the Biden Administration's law enforcement apparatus seems focused on conservative "threats", but seems to be missing what's happening on these campuses and elsewhere. Then it's the Trump trials, and the legitimacy of handcuffind Donald Trump to a courtroom chair.  What this means for election 2024  - whether Biden will be the candidate, whether there will be a Trump/Biden debate, and what effect will RFK, Jr. actually have on the race.  What do the current polls mean - and what could shift them between now and November.Plus, a discussion of the economy, a new report on regulatory costs from the American Action Forum, and the contrasted record on regulations between Obama, Trump and Biden.

Historically Thinking: Conversations about historical knowledge and how we achieve it

Henry Wallace was an Iowan, an accomplished geneticist who hybridized corn; an entrepreneur who co-founded Pioneer Hi-Bred to produce seed, still an agricultural behemoth; the third-generation of editors of an influential American newspaper; a mystic who had a mysterious guru; and a “liberal philosopher”, according to no less an authority than Franklin Delano Roosevelt.  He was also at various times Secretary of Agriculture, Secretary of Commerce, Vice President of the United States, and a third-party candidate for President of the United States in the 1948 election. Like America, Henry Wallace contained multitudes.  With me today is Benn Steil, author of The World That Wasn't: Henry Wallace and the Fate of the American Century. Benn Steil is a Senior Fellow and Director of International Economics at the Council of Foreign Relations. His previous books have been on the Marshall Plan, and on the financial arguments focused upon the Bretton Woods conference. In this book we have yet another study examining the central moment of the twentieth century–both chronologically as well as in many other ways–but from the extraordinary and idiosyncratic point of view of Henry Wallace.   For Further Investigation For more on Wallace's Midwestern ethos, see my conversations with Jon Lauck about the Midwest: here, way back in Episode 13 (!!!), and again in Episode 299: The Good Country Benn Steill's previous books are The Marshall Plan: Dawn of the Cold War, and The Battle of Bretton Woods: John Maynard Keynes, Harry Dexter White, and the Making of a New World Order Henry Cantwell Wallace (1866-1924): Secretary of Agriculture, father of Henry Cantwell Wallace  "A Magazine Called Wallace's Farmer" The connection between George Washington Carver, Henry Wallace, and Norman Borlaug

In episode 98 of the podcast "Rubberneckers" titled "Tastes Like America," hosts John Jamingo, and Jodie are joined by guests Uncle Randy and Brooke for an offbeat and humorous discussion. The episode opens with Jodie mentioning that their friend Edward fixes something in post, which Jamingo agrees with. They playfully joke about hitting something again and make sexual innuendos, all in good fun. They further explain that Edward, who is their editor, is unable to hear sound cues and they have complete trust in his editing skills. The conversation takes an unexpected turn as they discuss Uncle Randy's podcast "Laying Pipe," where he interviews community leaders in the plumbing industry. They banter about getting famous guests like Ric Flair and mention Buff moving in with DDP. The episode encounters technical difficulties and a controversial comment from Uncle Randy about women knowing their place. Jamingo defends himself when discussing a Discord friend and looking at Tinder profiles, causing Jodie to joke about judging people based on looks. The hosts touch upon the importance of racial sensitivity and avoiding slurs. The conversation meanders into memories of past podcast episodes and Twitter fights. They discuss a show that caused controversy and ruined friendships, remarking that it was gold and shouldn't have had such consequences. Jamingo introduces a hypothetical solo livestream show, sharing his fear of doing a podcast alone. The episode continues with discussions about quitting vaping, Charlie Sheen's daughter starting an adult entertainment site, and the decline of quality in independent podcasters. They talk about freedom of speech, alternative platforms, and the success of Alex Jones. Light-hearted moments occur as the hosts jest about drunken episodes and their plans for future recordings. The conversation ends with an inappropriate comment from Uncle Randy. This is the twenty-fourth installment in Eric's epic summer series covering the contentious and war-torn season of American history from 1914 to 1974. In this episode, he unpacks the intricate plans of Joseph Stalin and the Soviets to manipulate the American government and to steer it in the direction that was most advantageous to their agenda. Harry Dexter White, a government official high up in the U.S. State Department was the clandestine tool with which the Soviets used to pull off this ruse. Like America in the 1940s, we also have an enemy that is seeking to steer our lives into disaster. ------------For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/. According to an article in Vancouver's Globe and Mail, after years of struggle and a recent traumatic event, Kathrin Mentler sought medical care at a local hospital for her suicidal ideation. Like America, Canada has spent millions on public service campaigns encouraging those contemplating suicide to seek professional help.  Katherine, however, was not offered help. Instead, she was offered death. The hospital staff told Katherine that it would take a long time to see a psychiatrist and suggested she consider Canada's Medical Aid in Dying program instead.  A story like this might be funny if the consequences weren't so severe, but they are. In this brave new world, killing is called “medical aid,” harm passes for help, and healthcare professionals recommend suicide to deal with suicidal ideation. The so-called “right to die” becomes an “option to die,” then an “expectation to die,” and eventually the “duty to die.”   And people like Kathrin Mentler are in grave danger exactly where they should be able to find help.

Released in 1975 on Mayfield's own Curtom Records, it's a stunning, sophisticated - and sadly overlooked - chronicle of austere times by a true master of his craft. A revered friend of mine has just survived the latest of myriad surgeries as part of many months of desperate attempts to save his life. To protect his privacy, let's call him “Tim.” Tim is one of the most brilliant national security practitioners of his generation. He's a distinguished veteran of combat overseas and the bureaucratic wars in Washington. Tim's experience mirrors what's been happening to the country he loves so deeply and has served so well. Like America, he's been wracked by disease, debilitating hardships and skyrocketing costs. Also like the USA, Tim is tenaciously fighting to survive the forces of darkness working to take him down. His heroic courage is an inspiration to those of us who love him and a hopeful sign that our nation will pull through, too.   Please join me in praying for Tim – and for America. This is Frank Gaffney.

They begin with Esteban Maroto's Lovecraft: The Myth of Cthulhu (IDW Publishing), an adaptation of three of H. P. Lovecraft's short stories: "The Nameless City," "The Festival," and "The Call of Cthulhu." All three are part of the writer's Cthulhu mythos, and the guys comment on Maroto's illustrative style and how it reflects that found in 1970s Warren publications, to which Maroto actually contributed (although not these stories). Next, they discuss Olivia Burton and Mahi Grand's Algeria Is Beautiful Like America (Lion Forge). This is a memoir of Burton's journey to Algeria, particularly Algiers and the Aurès Mountains, to visit the land of her mother and grandparents. In many ways, this is a narrative all about identity, in that the author attempts to understand the land of her forebears in order to better understand herself. This is a striking autobiographical work, but as the Two Guys point out, it's unusual that a memoir such as this is written and illustrated by different creators. The guys wrap up this month's episode by visiting a book that is close to Pascal's heart, André Franquin's Die Laughing(Fantagraphics Books). This is a collection of Franquin's Idées noires strips, which are strikingly different from his earlier work in Spirouor his Gastonand Marsupilamicomics. As Derek and Pascal point out, these are more serious and foreboding pieces that reflect a dark peri0d in Franquin's life. And while many of these strips are politically poignant, they are nonetheless timeless and are just as fresh today as when they were first created during the 1970s and 1980s.
