Most people wait until 65 to enjoy life, saving in retirement accounts they can't touch for decades. After working with hundreds of clients, we've learned there's a better way to build wealth while maintaining your current lifestyle. In today's episode, we sit down with Shane Thompson from RP Capital to explore how turnkey real estate investing can create passive income streams and accelerate your path to financial independence. We dive deep into why traditional retirement planning falls short, how to leverage other people's money through infinite banking, and why focusing on cash flow rather than net worth could transform your financial future. We explore practical strategies for building a real estate portfolio without becoming a full-time investor, how to evaluate markets for stable returns, and why passive income gives you the freedom to pursue what truly matters in life. Passive Real Estate Done Right: The turnkey model eliminates common real estate headaches by providing vetted properties, professional management, and established systems. Focus on stable markets with steady growth rather than chasing explosive returns that could crash. The Power of Leverage and Cash Flow: Using tools like infinite banking to finance properties can dramatically increase returns while maintaining control. Focus on monthly cash flow rather than trying to pay off properties early - this creates options and accelerates portfolio growth. From Net Worth to Cash Flow Thinking: Traditional retirement planning focuses on building a nest egg you can't touch for decades. Real estate provides immediate cash flow that can fund lifestyle changes now while appreciating over time. The Compounding Portfolio Strategy: Start with one property generating a few hundred in monthly cash flow. Reinvest gains and leverage equity to acquire more properties over 4-7 years. Eventually, one property can turn into multiple without additional capital. In this episode, we sit down with Katy Almstrom, a seasoned entrepreneur and the founder of MoneyWise, to delve into the world of mastermind models. With years of experience in coaching and entrepreneurship, Katy brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the discussion.Katy and I have been working together for about 12 months now. In that time, she's transitioned her business to a mastermind model and that's what we'll be discussing today. She provides insights into her sales process secrets, the key elements of delivering a kick-ass mastermind, and how the mastermind model has transformed her business.Transitioning to the Mastermind ModelBefore embracing the mastermind model, Katy's business operated in a one-on-one coaching model. She enjoyed this work greatly but eventually realised the group setting of a mastermind would be better aligned with her mission of normalising conversations around money with women. The mastermind model can offer far greater scalability and ease than individual coaching can, but it does come with some different things to consider. For one, the longer sales process gives you more time to nurture leads and build strong client relationships. We share our sales process secrets so that you can take full advantage of the mastermind model.Delivering a Kick-Ass MastermindMoving on to the delivery of masterminds, Katy shares insights into refining the process for optimal client experience. Initially, she believed she needed things to be drastically different but wasn't able to enjoy working that way. Eventually, she found the perfect fit by embracing a more personalised approach, emphasising clear communication, one-on-one onboarding, and goal setting with clients.Leveraging the Mastermind ModelThen we talk about how Katy uses the mastermind model to create exceptional offers and experiences. She stresses the importance of intentional offer creation and obsession with details for client success. Learning from experts and using all the resources available to her has ensured Katy gets maximum results from the mastermind model.Katy has so much experience and wisdom to share in this episode! As a business owner and a mother of two, my morning routine has to involve my family. I value family time, so I'm always there to help my children get ready for school and eat breakfast together. I've tried the "get up at 5 am and get your day done by 11" routine, but it's not sustainable for me. It's crucial to design a morning routine in the context of one's family and how one wants their family to operate. I usually start my workday after my children leave for school. I review my calendar and have a daily huddle meeting with my team. Sometimes, I exercise in the morning, but it's not a regular part of my routine. I don't do affirmations, journaling, or any of the popular morning routines. Instead, I suggest doing a brain dump at least once a week to organize all the swirling to-dos in one's head.Resources:If you're struggling to understand the accounting for your business, reach out to Annette at podcast@annetteandco.co.uk and join our Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/915326342418247. Have you considered developing a product line? Whether you run a business currently and you'd love to offer products alongside your existing services, or you're thinking about starting up a brand new side-hustle or business, selling products can be an amazing way to build a new stream of income and chart a path to financial freedom. And to me, freedom is a big part of wellness. Whether it's financial freedom, lifestyle freedom, geographic freedom, time freedom… whatever it is. It's difficult to be truly well, in the broader sense, if you feel like a prisoner in your own life in some way. So that's why I feel like anything that can help you achieve more freedom, autonomy, independence, and agency in your life, will help you achieve that fuller picture of wellness that we're all striving for. So in today's conversation I'm chatting with a woman who specializes in helping people build and grow product-based businesses, which in my book, is helping people create freedom for themselves. Katie Hunt is the founder of Proof to Product. She's also a podcast host, a business strategist, and a community builder for product-based business owners. Since 2011, Katie has helped thousands of brands get their products on the shelves of retail stores big & small. Her alumni's products are sold in Target, Nordstrom, the Container Store, and Starbucks, as well as independent boutiques around the world. During this episode, Katie and I talk about: How to decide whether a product business is right for you The importance of starting small and strategic The danger of trying to sell ALL THE THINGS The pros and cons of physical products vs. digital products The importance of defining your goals and your WHY, before developing your product line …and lots more! What happens when someone in Canada, Thailand, and New York sit down with Trav to discuss lifestyle freedom? Well...it gets deep...and fun...and we all learn what it's like to have 5 daughters (true story!) This is part of our Location Indie podcast, hence the different opening. I sit down with 5 amazing contributors to the Paradise Pack 2022 to discuss their journey to lifestyle freedom...and also to talk about eating chocolate poured over your hands (true story!) This is part of our Location Indie podcast as well, hence the different opening. If you like it, go check out Location Indie in your podcast feed!
We answer your questions about lifestyle freedom - include if we miss anything about our 9-5. Plus, a very special guest makes a surprise appearance!
What does the future look like for us...and society as a whole? Well, that's a big question, and if I knew the answer, I'd be buying lottery tickets. But we do tackle what we think the near future will hold for people seeking lifestyle freedom (more autonomy, less college?) and what the next 3-5 years look like for us as our kids get older and we enter our 40's.
"So, if you could live anywhere in the world for 2 months, where would it be?" That's the question we set out to answer in this episode - and while there are a lot of awesome digital nomad hotspots, our list for this phase of our lives looks mighty different than it would have 5 years ago.
In the 10 years since we've broke free of "regular jobs" and had lifestyle freedom, we've taken A LOT of trips. Here's the 15 most formative ones, from exotic fast travel around the globe to chilling out in a hot tub in Breckenridge.
The journey to lifestyle freedom isn't easy (go listen to episode 1 for all the details!) but it is soooooo worth it. Here's the biggest perks of having lifestyle freedom, including the ones you've probably dreamed about (hello, beaches of Thailand) and some you haven't thought about (hint: sweatpants!).
It wasn't easy. It wasn't fast. It wasn't (always) sexy. But over 15 years, we've been able to build a lifestyle that gives us The Triangle of Freedom: Time Freedom, Location Freedom, and Financial Freedom. For the first time ever, here's the WHOLE story - good, bad, and ugly (including the craziest job I ever had).
