Tell us what you like or dislike about this episode!! Be honest, we don't bite! From facing Roger Federer in the Wimbledon final to losing millions on bad investments, Mark Philippoussis' life has been a rollercoaster of extreme highs and crushing lows. Known as "The Scud" for his record-breaking serves, Mark was one of the few players who could defeat legends like Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi—but his biggest battles weren't on the court, they were in life.In this raw, no-holds-barred conversation, Mark reveals:
Welcome to the annual very best of the year episode!! 2024 was a massive year for our show full of huge growth in many areas and it's always humbling to look back on what was achieved and of course reminisce on the biggest moments from the year of the show. As always, we split this episode into four main categories which are the most shocking, funniest, insightful and best of uncut. And trust us, it is so hard to choose which moments go in where and more importantly, the incredible moments that miss out! So we begin with the most shocking which includes Howie sharing the moment he almost lost his life, Andrew Rule on the crime that goes on under our nose, Mike Sheahan's biggest threats and Paddy Kisnorbo's dangerous tunnel fight in the UK. The funniest category will have you in stitches as it features comedian's Ben Price & Lawrence Mooney, "Razor" Ray Chamberlain's hilarious umpire kit story, Mark Philippoussis' dumbest tennis injury and Brian Taylor's infamous Triple M boat trip! In the insightful category we have a wide range kicking off with Jules Lund's Jim Stynes' impact. Then we hear Adrian Richardson's best cooking tips, Tony Doherty's opinion on steroids, Jeff Morgan's jail experience and Abbey Holmes' journey to where she is today. This category will inspire you and teach you a wide range of things that will make you the most insightful person in the room! Finally, we turn our attention to the best of Uncut in 2024 which is hilarious. We look back at our 200th episode and the fears segment, the infamous text roulette and the rudest acts! Again, we couldn't do the show without you all listening and we truly appreciate each and every one of you. Thank you for being part of the show in 2024, we hope this re-jogs the memory of some of the best bits and may inspire you to tune into an episode you ordinarily wouldn't! Have a safe New Year and we will see you in 2025!! Here is the episode numbers featured in this episode. This is wonderfully raw insight into Australian tennis great Mark Philippoussis. Branded by the media as Australia's original bad boy of tennis, Mark talks about this label being totally misrepresentative of who he was, what he stood for and how it affected his journey on the tour. Reaching two grand slam finals, winning David Cups and numerous ATP championships.... Mark talks about how he defines success, the best way to achieve success and the lessons that he implements into his family and business life today. One of the greats and fellow ethnic Mark Philippoussis joins us to chat all things tennis - from what it was like back in the day compared to now, to why AO winner Jannik Sinner has a champion's mentality. We also throw back to the time Mark was the bachelor on a show called Age of Love, and we find out that's he's actually half Greek and half Italian (and when you hear the reason why his mum learnt Greek it's sure to make you laugh)! Andy Murray won the second Wimbledon title of his career, and the Tennis Podcast team were astounded by his level of consistency throughout the final, and during the entire fortnight. Three closely fought sets against Milos Raonic were won in fine style, and David Law (BBC 5 Live), Catherine Whitaker (Eurosport) and Simon Briggs (Telegraph Tennis Correspondent) discussed his feat just as Murray himself walked by after the match. And what next for Murray? We hear from Mark Philippoussis, who believes his best is yet to come, including the World No.1 ranking. The Tennis Podcast is produced in association with Telegraph Sport. Andy Murray is trying to be the first British man in 81 years to win the French Open, Djokovic will try to complete a career Grand Slam on Sunday, Garbine Muguruza is after her first ever major title, and Serena Williams is trying to tie Steffi Graf on 22. The only prediction anyone can make with confidence is that tennis is in for an emotional weekend. After a day packed with semifinals, tennis broadcasters Catherine Whitaker and David Law convened for a Tennis Podcast which reviewed a scintillating performance from Murray to knock out defending champion Stan Wawrinka, and assess his chances in the final. We hear from Grand Slam champions Mats Wilander and Thomas Johansson, and Wimbledon runner-up Mark Philippoussis about what they see as the keys to victory for Murray against Djokovic. In the women’s final, the physical condition of Serena Williams is discussed - she was revealed to have an ‘adductor injury’ after her semifinal win over Kiki Bertens. And we talk about her... After a frustrating day of rain at the US Open on Thursday, the silver lining is Fantastic Friday, with all four of the men’s and women’s semifinals played on the same day. The Tennis Podcast’s David Law (BBC Radio 5 Live) and Catherine Whitaker (Eurosport) get together to look forward to the action, with special guests Mark Philippoussis - the 1998 US Open runner-up, and Goran Ivanisevic - coach of defending champion Marin Cilic. Philippoussis looks back on when he was the first ever opponent of Roger Federer in a Grand Slam tournament 12 years ago, assessing his incredible longevity, while Ivanisevic talks about the chances of his man Cilic against Novak Djokovic. And back by popular demand (or, if we’re honest, in spite of no demand whatsover), Catherine and David give their predictions for the four semifinals. In a week when Bob and Mike Bryan finished a year ranked No.1 for a record 8th year, we pay homage to them, but ask whether they should get more recognition. What should tennis do to give doubles more media exposure and television/radio airtime? Should major changes be made to the doubles form of the game? Plenty of thoughts are offered by you, our listeners. Elsewhere, we review a cracking week on the ATP and WTA Tours, and build the perfect player with the help of Carlos Moya, Mark Philippoussis and Gaston Gaudio.
