We talk about trying to stay positive in a down comedy market, how Jay did or didn't fit in writing a pilot with much younger people, what started the desire to perform, inspirations, Boy Meets World, and the trick to showbiz is just never leaving. Bios: Lucy Blehar is an actor, writer, and musician from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (home of Heinz Ketchup). She received her BFA in acting from DePaul University in Chicago where she made her TV debut as a murdered sex worker on NBC's Chicago P.D. Since moving to LA in 2016, Lucy has studied and performed at The Groundlings, co-hosted a popular comedy show called "Titty Committee," and performed in various independent films and series. Lucy co-created and starred in the live show “Dickmatized,” with Mary and Kyle which had a sold out run at UCB before the global pancetta. Lucy plans to sort out her stomach issues this year once and for all.Kyle Kasabian is an LA based actor, writer & director who has been performing live comedy in Los Angeles since 2013. He is a regular writer/performer at the Upright Citizen's Brigade Theatre for shows such as Maude Night, Characters Welcome, Dickmatized, and the wildly popular Dynasty Typewriter show, Bad Drag Race. As an actor, Kyle has been seen on Peacock's "Girls5Eva" and has written for Nickelodeon, CBS, and BYUtv. His most recent project, "Oversharing" is being developed as a TV series by Merman, Naomi Odenkirk, & Jay Kogen, along with a webseries that has appearances from Sarah Silverman, Kate Flannery, and other comedy talents.Mary Ryan is an actress, writer, and producer from the second smallest state in the US, Delaware. Mary co-wrote and performed the stage show “Dickmatized,” with Lucy and Kyle, with a sold out two year run at UCB. By day, you can find her hustling as a personal assistant, but by night she is frantically writing silly sketches and performing comedy to make her dreams come true! From Straw Hut Media
In this episode, we chat with Sam Oh about his upbringing in Los Angeles by Korean Christian immigrants; the gay allegory that is Hannah Montana; skincare; comedy; and how it's ok for underrepresented communities to be ugly and unlikable! .... Sam Oh is a writer and comedian from Los Angeles (well technically The Valley which like, totally counts!) An alum of the WarnerMedia Access Writers Program and NBC's Late Night Writers Workshop, he most recently worked on the reboot of Frasier for Paramount+. As a queer child of Korean Christian immigrants, Oh had no choice but to develop a sense of humor. He got his start as a teenager doing open-mics all over LA and taking sketch and improv at UCB, later writing on Maude Night. His scripts have placed in numerous industry competitions, including the Top 50 of the Academy Nicholl Fellowship. He's performed at SF Sketchfest, Union Hall NY, The Elysian Theater and currently hosts the musical comedy revue, “Adler & Oh.” Oh performs comedic music as his hyper-sexual pop star alter ego, GAY VIRGIN. For updates on his upcoming debut EP, follow @gayvirginofficial and @gayvirgin666!

Her stories have been featured on the MOTH podcast, and quoted by the AV Club. As a breast cancer awareness advocate, and she has been invited to speak at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium and various locations in New York City. Caitlin works closely with the organization FORCE, and Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital as a breast cancer awareness advocate, helping to connect with other women who are BRCA positive. Caitlin created and starred in the docu-series with Condé Nast Entertainment and Glamour.com, Screw You Cancer. Screw You Cancer won a National Magazine Honors Award ASME for excellence in new media. She is also an honoree of the Seventh Annual Television Academy Honors, for using the power of television and video media to bring awareness to important social issues. With a warm, funny, and approachable voice, Caitlin tells readers the full story, even sharing what it was like to go from a size 32G bra--giant, for a woman who is barely over five feet tall!--to a 32C. Connie Shin joins me to watch The Love Witch and discuss the vibrantly candy colored and layered feminist discussion being presented in this contemporary movie made to look like it was produced in the 1960's.IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3908142/?ref_=nv_sr_1Written and Directed by: Anna BillerStarring: Samantha Robinson, Laura Waddell, Jeffrey Vincent Parise, Robert SeeleyMovie Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXOmzA56E40Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Love_WitchRotten Tomatoes: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_love_witch/RogerEbert.com Review: http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/the-love-witch-2016Buy on Amazon.com: https://www.amazon.com/Love-Witch-Blu-ray-Samantha-Robinson/dp/B01NAPV3FJAnna Biller Productions: http://lifeofastar.com/index.htmlAdditional Links:Connie Shin - Twitter: https://twitter.com/thatconnieshinKarate Karate at UCB Maude Night: https://sunset.ucbtheatre.com/performance/55748I Do Until I Don't written and directed by Lake Bell: http://www.idountilidontmovie.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
We’re back! 2017! Will this be the only podcast I record all year? Who knows! Today on the show, it’s Dave Theune. Los Angeles improvisers may know Dave from the legendary Bangarang, or Sassy Bluff, or Midbest, or his run with Bonafide on Maude Night. And, all the TV watchers may have seen dave on Brooklyn 99, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Michael Bolton’s Big Sexy Valentine’s Day Special, or in 1000 commercials. Dave flips the script on me today, and starts asking me questions. And in turn, I divulge too much information about my life and this podcast. But, not before taking a second to have Dave talk to me about straight manning, and doing comedy on your own terms. Plus, we talk a bit about Dave’s personal journey in improv, and the merits of short form improv, which Dave wants you to know, he loves. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Anna is a phenomenal writer and one of the funniest people we've had on our podcast BUT that pales in comparison to how hard of a worker she is by all accounts. So, obviously we were very appreciative that she made time in her busy schedule to come on and talk with us. And talk she did, we spoke about the best practices for getting to be a part of the CBS diversity showcase. She explained how she puts a packet together, what should and should not go into it, how long it should be and also some of the lesser known requirements. Madam Cecilia also gave us a brief tutorial on taking notes when they are given to you. Spoiler Alert: You're argument against taking them is almost always wrong. Anna was also a staff writer for Awesome TV, a writer on the teams Sugar and Bombardier at UCB, a writer/performer on the team Jet Jaguar at iO West, and she now coaches iO West house team, Wilton. Comedian Andrew Hansen (@andrewofhansen) contends that T.H. White's fantasy novel "The Once and Future King" is an inspiring and worthwhile tale compelling enough to make Geoff actually read a book. We discuss everything from the cover art to the temperature of the physical book, leaving no stone un-sworded (sorry). Along the way we talk about our favorite textbook art, electronic versus physical books, Andrew's notebook list system, how to use Garageband, Geoff's love of the sci-fi in Dianetics, and how the Friends cast compare as improvisers. Finally, we introduce the instant classic segment Title Match: Books. Check out (library pun) Andrew Hansen at the Upright Citizen's Brigade in Los Angeles, where he performs improv every Tuesday with Cardinal Redbird at 11:00 am, and sketch with Sugar at Maude Night. Check out ucbtheatre.com for more details. If you're from out-of-town, it's worth the trip! Questions? Sponsorship offers? Relationship advice? Email convincemepodcast@gmail.com. Diona Reasonover is one of the funniest people that I know. From playing the role of Charmaine on the TBS series “Clipped” to performing on Maude Night at the UCB Theatre with her team “Bombardier” to her stints writing for truTV’s “Adam Ruin’s Everything” and Jill Soloway’s “I Love Dick” Diona is a shining example of hard work paying off. With her experience, she’d be a great person to interview but instead of talking about her background we just sat in silence for 25 minutes. We used that time to work on a bird puzzle.

Whoa! It's already St. Patrick's Day weekend - Christian and Shonali have way too much to catch up on. We talk Riverdance, Bronies, and walking strategies for New Yorkers. Shonali is dissed by her dad. Christian is in a TMZ phase. Shonali bombed an audition and Christian booked his. We share diatribes on hipster diatribes. Our special guest this episode is comedienne and actress Bridey Elliott. She just returned from Austin, where the film in which she co-stars, Fort Tilden, just won the Grand Jury Prize at SXSW. We talk animal handling, teen age angst, and growing up in a comedy family. Her father is Chris Elliott, sister is Abby Elliott, and grandfather is Bob Elliott. We also talk boyfriends, strategies for avoiding getting raped, Siri and butt dialing. In addition to acting, Bridey does stand up and is also performing in Absolutely, her Maude Night improv group at the UCB Theatre. We had so much fun having Bridey as our guest. You will hear Shonali laughing the ENTIRE episode. GAWSH! Our Episode 22 song is Sunshine Love by Rikki Ililonga.
Things get spooky this week, though it has less to do with The Night Things and more to do with the tales told by this week’s guest, sketch comedy writer Kerry McGuire. Actually, not “spooky” so much as dark. We discuss Nicole’s pick, the first Courtney Crumrin series from Oni Press. The book inspires a little bit of talk about childhood alienation and a lot of talk about pupils. Eye pupils. Newly colored versions of Courtney Crumrin & The Night Things #1-4 can be found on Comixology and on Amazon. Kerry McGuire is a writer for the sketch comedy team Charlemagne, who perform in New York City as part of Maude Night at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. Music: “Good Ol' Fashion Nightmare” by Matt & Kim "Kerry McGuire and Nicole Drespel / Courtney Crumrin & The Night Things" originally appeared at http://mattandbrettlovecomics.com/podcast/2012/night-things.html
