Marcus Wood: Composer and Co-lyricist Marcus studied Acting and Stage Combat at East 15. He supported his studies as a professional composer and lyricist – writing over 140 songs, a chart single (Belgium), 15 short films and 30 videogames. Working with Nathan Rees (writer), Marcus produced, edited and starred in The Other Way (2019) an award-winning short film which was part of the 168 Film Festival. Video games include Stellaxy, Randy and Manilla and Ghosts in Meatspace. Theatre credits include as fight director on Skin In The Game (London, 2019) and as actor/musician in Sanditon: 200 Years Later (The Other Palace, London 2019) where he met and worked with Vicky Clubb. They realised that they shared a passion for musical theatre and Viking culture and the idea for combining the two was the start of the idea for a new musical. Nathan Rees: Book writer and Co-lyricist Nathan graduated from East 15's Acting and Stage Combat course in 2019. While there, Nathan created his first show Vic-Tory-Us. As a writer, he won an award at the 168 Film Festival for The Other Way, a short film (Fire and Iron Productions). He is now resident writer for Fire and Iron Productions working on short films and features. Theatre credits include Buttons in Cinderella (Gary Starr Creative), Benvolio in Romeo and Juliet (KeepIt100), Kostya Levin in Anna Karenina (East 15), William Shakespeare in Whack-A-Head (East 15). As fight directors, Nathan and Marcus workshopped the idea of the sound of live sword fighting becoming part of the percussive elements of the score. To facilitate communicating this to directors and performers they have developed ‘Swordography' a new form of choreographic notation. Nathan has been passionate about musical theatre since he was very young, and he is continuing to advance his musical theatre skill set; he was accepted on the BML Librettist Workshop programme for this year. With combined passions for musical theatre, Vikings and thrilling stage combat, Nathan, Vicky and Marcus started working together and early workshops confirmed that there was a future in bringing to live theatre a musical rooted in Viking mythology and culture. Blodlina It is 900AD and two Viking sisters are fighting for control of their late Father's kingdom. Set against the gathering storm clouds of imminent invasion, Blodlina tells the story of a tiny community bravely fighting, against all odds, for its very existence. Amidst broken hearts and shattered swords, romance and rebellion, the story unfolds under the watchful eye of two mischievous, interfering teenage Norse gods, Loki and Thor. Blodlina captivated audiences with its thrilling sword fights and a musical score ranging from haunting folk to heavy metal. It seamlessly blends modern themes into a story inspired by Norse mythology, creating a gripping new family musical experience.

Ungovernable Misfits – P.M.M. Episode 1What does P.M.M. stand for? Pleb Miner & Meshtadel for the most part, but perhaps it means, Pleb Miner Mafia, or Privacy and Mining Mavericks. Maybe is means Permaculture, Mechanics, and Mycelium. You see where we're going here, the show is fluid. Some episodes will be weighted towards mining, some permaculture, and others self-sovereignty. What is the Meshtadel? The Meshtadel was started by Max, Czino, and SoulEx. Read SoulEx and SoulEx Boy's original article in Citadel 21 for more context and check out their episode on Ungovernable Misfits. The group was created to help Plebs connect with each other, provide mutual support, and as an incubator for new ideas, but the group grew to be so much more over the past few years. It's now a group of friends who provide mutual support, general encouragement, advice on permaculture and sustainable living, sovereignty, and preparedness, and even at times parenting advice or sharing a good recipe. The term “Meshtadel” comes from the combination of Citadel + Mesh-Network. A Citadel by itself is not likely to stand under state attack, but Bitcoin-anchored, open, and decentralized societies willing to cooperate with each other p2p, that is a network that can't be destroyed. Within the Meshtadel, Bitcoin is what has initially connected many of us, but we find through our interactions, that our love for our friends, families, and communities, and our desires to be sovereigns are what makes us Meshtadelians. In this episode of P.M.M. Max and Jon introduce the Meshtadel's origin story. The boys review clips of SoulEx and his son as they share their vision of the Meshtadel concept. That concept being preparing for unlikely scenarios, preparations we hope we never need to use. It's crucial to have options, even if unused, rather than lacking them when needed. The Meshtadel is the connections we make with like-minded individuals. Starting with just one genuine connection can lay the groundwork for a supportive, real-world network. The Meshtadel approach isn't about fear; it's about readiness and community resilience. The Meshtadel and the Miner Mafia share many of these characteristics and are natural kin. The Mafia are hard core Pleb Miners, but mining is just one part of the self-sovereignty stack.Jon and Max introduce other Meshtadelians like Tensai Bankai. The review the sentiment that many of us held during the mass formation psychosis we witnessed taking hold of the rest of society a few years back and the preparations we made to carry ourselves and our families through. Check out that episode here.Max and Jon also review Meshtadelian Rev Hodl or as we know him, Karl. He came to many of the same conclusions we all did during the dark times. Review his episode with Max here. The guys stress the importance of meeting with one another irl. Although our virtual communication is meaningful and important, there is nothing like meeting up in real life. The Meshtadel was spurred into an important conversation by an article from the Bitcoin Bugle by Dick Greaser Jails Around the Country to Release Pedos To Make Room For Amish Milk Sellers. The piece is satire of course, but it inspired a fascinating conversation amongst the members of the Meshtadel on different security approaches from the perspective of a citadel builder, a homesteader, an intellectual, and a pragmatist. Ungovernable Misfits welcomes our new contributor Charles Myriel with his piece Demoralizing People, Demoralizing Others. If you found value in this episode consider boosting on your favorite Podcasting 2.0 app and if you don't have one check out the list here:https://podcastapps.com/?appTypes=appNeed #BitcoinMining gear and accessories? Is the era of tech utopianism over? Does anyone believe that Zuckerberg's Hail Mary plan to trap us all in some nightmarish alternate digital reality is actually going to work? This week Justin and I consider the social and cultural elements of tech as a driver of the US economy, and wonder if virtual reality is really the future, or the dead end of Silicon Valley's grip on the popular imagination. We love the internet. We love Bitcoin. But we also love the real world, and there's nothing better than hanging out with proper bitcoiners in meatspace. *WARNING* This one gets messy. Welcome back to Sitting In Jams! This week we were without Callum! So, we thought that it would be a nice opportunity to talk about the state of social media and musicians. We've been meaning to have this conversation for some time as social media is a big part of our business and personal lives. Connecting with like-minded creatives, musicians and a new audience is the biggest positive of using social media. Knowing how to start or what to post can become an infuriating and confusing process. We want to remain true to our artwork and persona but it's easy to get caught up in battling the magical algorithms, driving engagement and audience traffic. It can quickly become a wild goose chase. Our conversation covers a wide variety of topics concerning musicians and social media. This was a fun chat for both of us but we would love to know your thoughts in the comment section!Tell us, what do you like/dislike about social media and the music world?Similarly, if you'd like to ask a question for us to discuss on the podcast, drop us a comment on YouTube, Instagram, Soundcloud, Facebook or Twitter and we'll break it down in a future episode! Co-host Leigh M. Johnson is in the hot seat for this episode's discussion of digital afterlives. If we consider the "digital," information-based self to be distinguishable from the meatspace self, we should ask: how long can the Digital Me live on after my meatspace body dies? Technology already enables us to "re-animate" archives of personal information in many ways, and some futurists believe that we may, someday, be able to upload our consciousnesses to the cloud. Who owns that information? What are they currently allowed (or not allowed) to do with it? What would happen if we insisted that all of our information being "deleted" after we physically die?Whether or not you believe in a Heaven or Hell, all of us need to think more seriously about our digital afterlives. Rick, Charles, and Leigh work through some of that thinking-- and much more-- at the hotel bar!Check out the links below to learn more about thinkers and ideas referenced in this episode: Maggi Saven-Baden and Victoria Mason-Robbie, Eds., Digital Afterlife: Death Matters in a Digital Age (2020) Rebecca Skloot, The Immoral Life of Henrietta Lacks (2011) origin of the term "meatspace" A visualization of the length of Terms of Service for 14 popular apps Tupac hologram performs with Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre at Coachella 2012 "Facebook told to grant grieving mother access to daughter's account" (The Guardian, 2011) Black Mirror episode "Smithereens" (on IMDB, or watch the episode on Netflix) Marshall McLuhan, The Medium is the Message (2001) "Everything You Need to Know About Twitter Direct Messages" (Livewire, 2020) What is data anonymization? Lizzie Killian (FIFTYcc, chiptune rock band The Glowing Stars, formerly of Zynga, Humble Bundle, GamesRadar & more) joins this Weez-tastic episode of CrossFade! Something about “Pinkerton” caught Lizzie’s ear in high school. Maybe it was the rough production, disarmingly vulnerable lyrics, or just the solid solos – whatever it was, it quickly became one of her favorite albums ever. She even named her own band, The Glowing Stars, after a lyric from the track “Falling For You.” Matt’s pick, “A Laughing Death in Meatspace” by Australian psych rock band Tropical Fuck Storm, engages with the modern world in a way that doesn’t feel cheesy. It touches on politics, imperialism, class divide, human obsolescence, and more on top of unique, beautifully crunchy synth-and-overdrive textures. Alex Cherones guests. We rub the dark underbelly of cybersecurity, and harp on a recurring theme that humans just love to learn the hard way -- a lesson cybercriminals are happy to teach ad nauseam.
When Brian was on with us last year, we started talking about identifying sponsors, working with potential sponsors, and how to get and treat sponsors to assist with the expenses related to racing. Since then, Brian has given several talks on this topic, as well as appearances on several podcasts. As always, our goal was to provide a complete summary of the area of sponsorship and allow you to be able to identify potential sponsors and find a way to help their business and your racing. If you use the strategies Brian covers and understand that it is not all about you, your speed, and your race wins, you should be able to start or grow your current driver/team/car sponsorship program. So technically, our podcast is not only free to you but may actually make or save you some money. There is no Dominating with Dawson on this episode, but we will double up next Monday. You can subscribe to our podcast on the podcast provider of your choice, including the Apple podcast app, Google music, Amazon, and YouTube etc. Also, if you could give our podcast a (5-star?) rating or even better, a podcast review, we would greatly appreciate it and it would help us to grow the passion and sport of high performance driving. For instance, leaving an Apple Podcast rating is very easy. If you go to your podcast library, under shows and click on the podcast you can leave a (5?) star rating and enter your review. We hope you enjoy this episode! PS Please don’t forget that if you are looking to add an Apex Pro to your driving telemetry system, don’t forget to use our discount code for all Apex Pro systems you will receive a free Windshield Suction Cup Mount for the system, a savings of $40. Just enter the code “ghitlikesapex!” when you order. We have two systems for our team and Bill is looking to add a third for this season, pending CFO approval from Vicki. They are a great system and truly invaluable in safely increasing your speed on track and/or autocross etc. Best regards, Vicki, Jennifer, Alan, and Bill Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training Podcast and Garage Heroes In Training racing team drivers Highlights from this episode include: 1) Bill establishes his wish list for a dream sponsor and Brian quickly dashes it against the rocks and we move to the reality of the current sponsorship and business climate. 2) Brian defines exactly what should be considered to be sponsorship and provides several examples of how these relationships start and develop. 3) Sponsorships are sometimes monetary but can also be discounted goods or services. 4) When approaching a sponsor, the key is to try to determine what the sponsor is looking for and how you can help them grow their business. Try to look at it from their perspective before thinking of what you can give or what you want from them. 5) Advertising and media exposure should not be the focus of your pitch. 6) What are the three components that make the strongest proposal to a potential sponsor. 7) What is a potential sponsorship program, how to prepare one, and how to increase your likelihood of success. We also go into the importance of having an internal champion is getting the traction needed to start the relationship even before you have a sponsorship program. 8) We even go into an area that is often overlooked by our racing friends: what does the business want in return from the sponsorship. 9) We even go through a scenario using an example business and product with an amateur endurance racing team as a worked example. Just for instance. Hey, it’s our podcast, lol. 10) Tips and guidance on how to approach your first sponsor that you probably already know within your personal social network. 11) Getting, maintaining, and growing a sponsorship relationship is a significant investment of time and effort by your team or at least one team member and can really be a near full time job. 12) Brian also goes into several examples of sponsorship deals that he has witnessed during his professional life. 13) How to present you and your team to the sponsor and what you should do before even sending them any information. 14) As many would have guessed, Bill tries to get Brian’s help with his dream Slurpee sponsorship. And then we walkthrough a potential path to Vicki’s dream sponsor of Flyin’ Miata for her baby. The thought behind these would be to show a worked example and what factors and approaches that may be helpful with trying to prepare for and start the conversation. 15) How and where to start your first steps towards working with a sponsor. 16) UPOD – Under Promise and Over Deliver. Words to live by in racing and in the real world. (Meat Space). Its right up there with “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth overdoing” 17) Brian was also kind enough to offer several additional potential models that can be pursued instead of, or in addition to, seeking sponsorship. 18) Vicki goes off program and starts talking racing EV’s in endurance racing from out of nowhere. It is kind of like the line from the Talking Heads “Well, How Did I Get Here”

Get ready for a rambling conversation about all the wild tropes and topics that make us love fandom (and make real life media look super boring by comparison). Additional topics include an 8-minute recap of the last Twilight movie (29:54 to 37:02), and an in-depth discussion of A/B/O, and its significance as a fandom trope that has developed a canon of its own (from 46:20 on). I explore how true gamification can make life a literal game, and re-explore how games and virtual worlds can become more important aspects of life.

Zengineering: A Philosophy of Science, Technology, Art & Engineering
Howdy, Zengineers! It's time. What time you might ask? Time to talk about the Scientific Method. Yeah. That method! The scientific one. Yikes! This conversations has been a long time coming and we're so happy to finally be talking about it. The core here is establishing a clear understanding of deductive versus inductive reasoning. We cannot, according to the philosophy of science, deductively prove things in our universe. We can only deductively DISPROVE them. As Albert Einstein famously said (or said something along these lines) "No amount of experimentation can ever prove me right, yet a single experiment can prove me wrong." Over time experimenting against inductively based reason creates solid foundational knowledge that we expect to consistently describe the behavior of the world around us. If ever an inductive conclusion is deductively proven wrong, then we must adjust that theory and all branching knowledge. This is the scientific method and what makes this incredible technological and philosophical innovation so damn powerful. Dig it? You should, and you will. This episode is kind of part of a series. This is InTune. A music appreciation podcast. For this episode Aidan, Jagan, and Andrew spent some time delving into their personal histories and their very own journeys with music. The idea is simple: InTune wants to celebrate new album releases. Each host must choose a new album from within a 30-31 day window to delve deep into, and we will discuss/critique it for the podcast. There are no genre restrictions. Just music that has captured our attention. For the first episode, we decided to ease into the podcast and each chose an album that stuck out to us from the summer. In this episode, I had a chat with author Nikesh Shukla. You may have heard him in Season 1 where the two of us looked at a listener’s first page. If you’re not familiar with his work he’s written three novels so far: Coconut Unlimited which was nominated for the Costa, Meatspace and his latest, The One Who Wrote Destiny. He’s got a fourth, a YA title, called Run, Riot coming out in June of this year. He also edited a collection of essays called The Good Immigrant which, after a successful Unbound funding campaign, went on to huge critical acclaim, sold a bunch of copies and won a Readers’ Choice Award. As Nikesh mentions at the beginning, we’re both sleep-deprived dads so, it takes us a little while to get to the punch but I think you’re going to get a lot out of this talk. He’s modest and self-deprecating but we talk about craft and finding what a story’s really about and the story of his latest book is a journey that’s taken nearly 20 years. Really inspiring. This is a great episode to listen to if you want to know: - what are different ways I can approach a character's 'voice'? - how can I decide what to write about? - what's the best way to approach a writing routine? - who should I be writing for? Zengineering: A Philosophy of Science, Technology, Art & Engineering
What's up Zengineers? This episode continues our marathon of depth, diving into the pool of modern human understanding on our way to episode 50!! How do we define an experiment and who is really running them? Here's a hint. It's all of us, but we might not think of it that way. At least not in day to day life. Why not? Well we think things should probably be reframed so more of us do, and we'll tell you why. Surprised? Probably not. This episode starts off talking about the colloquial idea of “experimenting with an activity” like, trying out surfing, versus the idea of “running an experiment" ... the more traditional scientific peer reviewed kinda stuff. From here we uncover the depth of what it means to really experiment. You'll enjoy a bit of a semantic dance as we spiral through one of Brian's more complex experiments (or series of tests) done during his industrial automation and mechanical engineering days. Then we change rhythm and pull --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/zengineering-podcast/support

It's another Meatspace Arc just in time for Canada Day! The AllGeek has popped into the real world to sit on your lounge and tell you about why Kiefer Sutherland was actually playing the good guy in that film where you thought he was the bad guy. (Because Canada Day, obviously....) From mad scientists, to men talking on phones, to misunderstood teenagers, she justifies all the terrible things. Wait, did.... she just challenge Kiefer Sutherland to a drinking competition? What, why would someone do that?
This isn't the Land of Pod! It's your living room, what is SHE doing here?! It's the Meatspace Arc. It's like Netflix and Chill, except she sits on your lounge, eats all your popcorn and talks through an entire episode of a show she says she loves..... This time, it's Designated Survivor. How is it like an RPG? And do they watch it differently in Australia? (Answer yes, it goes clockwise here....) Though not all of us Ars Technica editors were introduced to the Internet at the same time, there's no doubt that it has an effect on our social interactions everyday. In fact, some our social interaction is dependent on having at least a portion of our communications with people online. But what is more important: interacting in the online world, or in “meatspace”? For some of us, the Internet seems to fortify and help build existing relationships in the physical world. For others, the real interactions between people seem to be the most important. The Internet has changed the way we attend social gatherings, the way we date, and even the way we get along with family members, co-workers and friends. In this episode of the Ars Technicast, Senior Apple Editor Jacqui Cheng is joined by Social Editor Cesar Torres, and Ars Contributor Casey Johnston and Microsoft Editor Peter Bright. What are the ways in which the Internet shapes your own social behavior? Is one type of space more important than the other? Share your stories with us in the comments.
