It's getting hot out, and it's time for those after work beers to cool you off. Aka lawn mowing beers. Dad brings Miller High Life and Miller Genuine Draft beer to taste test. To pair with the beers he brought in a Hungry Man Chicken fried Chicken Dinner. The dinner had green beans, mashed potatoes, white gravy and an apple dessert. Josh brings the Montucky cold snack from Montana and some of this favorite snacks. His snacks are Korean BBQ Pork Jerky (Crack), Ranch Parmesan nut snack mix and his take on ramen noodles. They have an interesting discussion of lawn mowing beers. Dad even tells a story of his special Lawn Mowing homebrew Beer.

His upbringing as an Army brat, as well as his own small stint in the military, prepared him well for a career full of leadership challenges and diverse geographic assignments. John’s post college journey began with six years of dynamic agency experience working for world-class companies, including Young and Rubicam and TracyLocke and supporting premier brands the likes of the U.S. Army, Miller Brewing Company, DuPont and PepsiCo. Among his many roles, John executed photo-shoots in the jungles of Honduras and Panama with the Army Reserve, wrote copy for DuPont car- covers in Wilmington, Delaware, drove sports marketing execution and strategy out of a Miller Genuine Draft van in support of Miller Sports in New England and developed packaging and promotions on-site at Pepsi North America’s headquarters in Somers, New York. John’s agency experiences provided him with invaluable consumer insights, lessons on brand loyalty and a strong creative spark that have helped guide him throughout his career on the client-side. Jumping the wall from agency (TracyLocke) to client (PepsiCo), John began a fourteen year stint with PepsiCo that would take him (and his growing family) from Purchase, New York to London, England back to Purchase to Boulder, Colorado and finally to Chicago, for various marketing and general management assignments. Under John’s leadership at PepsiCo, Pepsi increased experimentation with non-traditional media and acquired the sponsorship rights to the NFL for the first time (still holds), Mountain Dew, expanded its reach to new consumers, created a full-length movie with Universal Pictures and launched the Dew Tour with NBC, 7UP re-framed its marketing strategy, look and investment and grew beverage share in Europe, IZZE was fully-integrated into the PepsiCo family and Gatorade rebounded from a momentary blip in its growth track. John then showcased his brand passion and traffic building skills within the hospitality trade at Hard Rock International, for what may be a record (eight years) in position as Chief Marketing Officer, where he oversaw marketing efforts across Cafes, Hotels and Casinos in 75 countries across the globe. He was a member of the executive leadership team responsible for delivering six straight years of record profit for the company. Under John’s direction, the brand step-changed digital efforts across the board dramatically increased owned and earned media through social and CRM efforts. He also launched the brand’s first-ever unified loyalty program, Hard Rock Rewards, the “largest global, multi-hospitality unit” program in world along with Hard Rock Rising, the brand’s omni-channel global battle of the bands. When not working on digital, loyalty or new openings, John kept busy driving brand relevance by signing key philanthropic partnerships with global icons including Imagine Dragons, Rihanna and Pitbull, negotiating concert deals with Live Nation and overseeing content plays with VICE Media. After leaving Hard Rock, John took up his current role overseeing Marketing and Innovation for Godiva International based in New York City. Today, he is kept busy working across multiple products, brand and channels as Godiva pursues an aggressive global growth agenda and a noble brand purpose (Open People’s Eyes To A More Wonderful World). His favorite chocolate is the Godiva Chocolate Lava Truffle. John is a long-suffering New York Jets fan, an ex-college lacrosse goalie at Manhattan College (still believes he can save any shot), a hack runner chasing an elusive under four hour marathon (personal best: Marine Corp Marathon, 2016 4:07), a proud husband to his college sweetheart and a, most-of-the-time, doting father of three to Julia (22), JJ (19) and Nicholas (12).

Today, as we introduce the world to our scrappy little show, we find ourselves reviewing a beer that grew up with Generation-X, first market tested in 1985 and nationally distributed the following year. This quadrupally cold-filtered American adjunct lager was originally marketed as a draft-quality beer built on the bones of Miller High Life; the Champagne of Beers on tap, but with superior portability. Today, however, it sells itself as the anti-microbrew, hanging its hat on slogans like, “Its time for beer to quit acting like wine,” and “It’s time for a good-old macro-brew.” And while it hearkens itself to a by-gone age when seemingly all-American macros were built and bottled in the bounteous bosom of the blue-collar upper Midwest, insisting that, “Its time to drink beer imported all the way from Milwaukee,” in fact few beers are less attached to a particular geographic location, having originally been brewed in North Carolina, but now brewed in Georgia, Texas, Colorado, California, Ohio, and yes, Milwaukee. Today, on Pickled Eggs & Cold Beer, we’re talking about Miller Genuine Draft. http://www.pickledeggsandcoldbeer.com/2018/07/episode-1-miller-genuine-draft.html
Today’s episode is about MGP . . . Why does Miller Genuine Draft get its own episode? MidWest Grain Products? Who are they? Apparently they make alcohol, and a lot of it. Today we dig into the largest distiller you don’t know and see what they make. Spoiler alert, it’s a lot. So get ready and Have a Drink.

Solocast! Who am I? I have lived in 5 different countries and 10 different cities. I have blonde hair, a ginger beard, have lived a life and career of so many lifetimes… all focused on the pursuit of loving life and The Secret to Happiness… although I didn’t necessarily recognise it at the time. After dropping out of university and a Swinburne University BASc Biochemistry degree through lack of passion and zero desire to be stuck in a laboratory in 10-15 years time, I have served drinks and cleaned ashtrays back of house at Melbourne’s Crown Casino, spent 6.5 years jet-setting the globe with the rock star’s lifestyle without being the rock star as an Emirates Airline flight attendant, set a life up for myself as music industry professional, driving operations & logistics for music festivals/events around Australia such as Splendour In The Grass, event production and festival photography for triple j, created a music supervisor role for Ballistyx Snowboard Show on Channel GO! managed rock & roll bands and much, much more. My life now, is so surreal. My main crust in 2017 is as a social media strategist and content producer. I work in an industry that didn’t exist 15 years ago guiding national and global brands on their social media strategy in the digital sphere, including the likes of Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate, Peroni Italian Beer, Philadelphia Cream Cheese, Kraft Peanut Butter, Bulmers Original Cider, Miller Genuine Draft, Cancer Council Australia, Salesforce (through Mahlab Content Agency) and many more. And all of this from a guy with no degree who dropped out of university… not once, but twice! The 1st was the BASc and the 2nd a Masters of Entrepreneurship & Innovation, which I dropped out of as I was spread too thin and didn’t wish to wait 4 years to start chasing new opportunities… I’m still not convinced you can teach entrepreneurship, but that’s another story
