John Hope Bryant says that even if you're a money geek, soaking up as much knowledge as possible, financial literacy for all (not just you) is YOUR problem. Today the financial activist takes aim at everyone to pitch in and help bring up our entire world by empowering people to become more financially literate. If you've never heard John speak, you may not know that he grew up in Compton (Los Angeles) in a very poor home, and struggled to find financial security. Now, as a frequent media contributor and one of the biggest suppliers of economic and entrepreneurial training in the USA, John spreads the word that even people who "didn't get the memo" about being money savvy can help all of us grow our wealth. He makes that case today on the show (and we don't think you'll want to miss it!). You never leave a John Hope Bryant talk feeling uninspired and ready to perform better with your finances. In our headline, we dive into the significant stock market tremor a couple of weeks ago. What's happened since? What lessons should we have learned? Should you take your money out of the market? Invest more? How should you handle it? We've spoken a lot lately about how to invest wisely, but with this case study right in front of us, you'll see precisely why we've been driving home the point of economic security so much lately. Of course, we also leave time for Doug's trivia and much more! Today's episode is one of those episodes that is SO foundational and educational but also such an EASY listen because our guest is a REALLY great guy. Today we have on Travis Sperr who shares his real estate investing journey with flips and long term rentals, using the BRRR strategy which is in our opinion one of the most tried and true ways to really build your wealth through real estate. We also dive into more about what a “hard money” loan could look like, how to determine the amount of LEVERAGE and even risk you might feel comfortable with and how to build a strong network. This episode is one of our FAVORITES thus far because it's really rooted in basic principles we think you're going to LOVE! Can't wait to hear what you think! As mentioned in today's episode: We made this short survey (should only take about 5 minutes to fill out) to help better understand YOUR goals are in the investing space and if we can connect you to a RESOURCE, create a podcast episode or free resource, connect you to a person or even jump on a zoom call together depending on what your goals are! In today's episode I talk about claiming SOVEREIGNTY over your resources - time, energy, and money. We talk about what true sovereignty looks like - influence and wise choices, not total control. We talk about lies that our brains tell us around these topics, how to overcome self sabotage, and offer some ritual suggestions to help us step into our power around our resources. Does money cause you major stress?Heck, it's tax time, which can feel overwhelming – especially to the entrepreneur. In fact, I just caught myself in a stress cycle about the taxes I owed because I was afraid i'd made TOO MUCH money.Thank goodness for Kate Northrup, who has come on the podcast today to help us end this stress cycle and heal our personal relationship with money. It's easy for us to think that simply earning more money will fix everything, but Kate shares why no amount of money can heal the fear and anxiety caused by a rocky relationship with money. As she says, "it's an inside job."In this episode, Kate goes beyond the traditional "penny pinching" money advice many of us were raised with, and teaches us why this scarcity model is not helpful to most women. We go deep into the real things holding many of us back from financial success –like how our thoughts and our nervous system impact the money we make, and how your emotional 'thermostat' regulates your capacity for prosperity. Fatal overdose rates remain high in Virginia, even as the state begins to spread opioid settlement money to state and local agencies to help tackle the epidemic. Death from drug overdoses, opioids and fentanyl in particular, has remained the dominant method of unnatural death in Virginia since 2013, according to the Virginia Department of Health. Overdoses ticked slightly down last year, but the number is forecast to remain about the same or higher this year. The state's opioid epidemic was officially declared a public health emergency in 2016, and opioid-related deaths increased 274% between 2012 and 2022, according to VDH...Article LinkSupport the show

In this month's podcast, we're going to look at two common situations with SBA loans, both of which can cause business owners some stress when it comes time to gain access to more working capital. We'll explore what you need to know about the SBA 7A and EIDL programs, options to work within the system to help you get more capital, and what you need to know so you can avoid costly mistakes. The SBA programs have some quirks and if you're not aware of all the issues, getting the money your business needs can be a lot more difficult than you'd imagine. I hope you find this information valuable and if you find yourself in one of these SBA entanglements, I encourage you to get with an experienced funding professional to help you develop strategies. Here's this week's letter:When I was growing up, I knew a few friend's dads that had guns, but they were old hunting rifles that had been passed down. This was out in the country, so hunting deer was just what some of them did for fun. I don't know when it happened but it seems like our country has been flooded with guns meant to harm people. I'm really concerned about this. I've heard you talk about climate change and poverty and homelessness on your show, but I've never heard you talk about guns. What do you think? Can our money help with gun violence?Links from today's episode:https://www.gunsdownamerica.org/https://isyourbankloaded.org/https://marchforourlives.com/https://www.sandyhookpromise.org/https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2022/02/03/what-the-data-says-about-gun-deaths-in-the-u-s/https://www.amnesty.org/en/what-we-do/arms-control/gun-violence/https://everytownresearch.org/report/guns-and-violence-against-women-americas-uniquely-lethal-intimate-partner-violence-problem/ Support the show
