India is spending over 10,000 crore rupees building what it calls sovereign AI. The servers are going up in Mumba and the ministers are saying the word at every summit. There is just one problem: nobody has defined what sovereign actually means. And the chips powering all of it are American, subject to American law. A US subpoena can reach a data centre in Mumbai as easily as one in Seattle. In this edition of Make in India Competitive Again, The Ken reporter Mrunmayee Kulkarni delves into what this really means.Listen a free episode of The Ken's First Principles feat Riyaz Amlaani with Rohin Dharmakumar hereDaybreak is produced from the newsroom of The Ken, India's first subscriber-only business news platform. Mumba the Lion Who Forgot to Roar by Subomi Macaulay https://www.amazon.com/Mumba-Lion-Who-Forgot-Roar/dp/B0GVYTPDBY Subomimacaulay.com Mumba the Lion Who Forgot to Roar is a powerful and heartwarming tale about identity, courage, and the importance of owning your story. Deep within the lush forests of the Congo lives Mumba a strong, wise, and respected lion whose silence leads others to misunderstand who he truly is. When his story is twisted and doubt begins to grow, Mumba is faced with a life-changing realization: if he doesn't speak his truth, someone else will define it for him. Guided by resilience and self-discovery, Mumba embarks on a journey to reclaim his voice. With the courage to rise above fear, he learns that true strength is not just in power but in honesty, expression, and authenticity. Written by The African Storyteller, Subomi Macaulay, this beautifully woven story draws from rich cultural traditions to inspire readers of all ages. It teaches timeless lessons about confidence, self-expression, and the power of storytelling. Perfect for children, families, and classrooms, this book encourages every reader to find their voice and never forget to roar. About the author Subomi Macaulay, affectionately known as The African Storyteller, is a Cultural Ambassador whose voice bridges generations and connects the richness of African heritage to modern-day narratives. Through her storytelling, Subomi imparts timeless lessons rooted in African culture, history, and personal experience. Her journey as a storyteller began in the heart of West Africa, where she learned the craft at the feet of her maternal grandmother. Through these early lessons, Subomi discovered the power of stories to teach resilience, empathy, and cultural pride. Today, she continues to weave narratives that both honor and reinvent African traditions, creating stories that resonate with audiences worldwide. Subomi's work spans across multiple formats: from live performances to written works, workshops, and cultural consulting. Her stories have touched the hearts of youth and elders alike, offering a powerful reminder that through storytelling, we can heal, connect, and transform.
Canadian actor and playwright Natasha Mumba has described her debut play, Copperbelt, as an “African Succession.” It centres on the Kasubas, a wealthy Zambian mining family. After the family patriarch falls ill, he summons his adult children home to help run the business. But long-simmering tensions rise and relationships fracture, forcing the family to confront its legacy — and its future. Natasha sits down with guest host Garvia Bailey in the Q studio to tell us more about the play and why she wants to change how theatre tells African stories.
Patterns of God's dwellingWe learn from Bishop Oscar Mumba that every church needs to accommodate the fullness of the holy spirit, we must let the spirit of God dwelling in us and with us.
This one starts with a dodgy lane choice, a Starbucks coffee, and a misjudged underpass. As always. I'm back in the Land Rover — which might be its final podcast outing before it finds a new home — and today's episode is a rambling, reflective road trip through customer service, creative resilience, and the rapidly growing presence of AI in our industry. The day started badly. Cold shower (thanks British Gas), broken editing software, and a head full of terabytes. But it ended with a reminder of why kindness, craftsmanship, and conversation still matter. A haircut from someone I've known for 18 years. A deep chat with the owner of Michel Engineering while he lovingly took apart my ancient-but-beautiful record deck — the very same design featured in A Clockwork Orange and owned by Steve Jobs, no less. And then... a disappointing interaction with a distracted barista and a headset-wearing drive-thru operator. Same building, worlds apart. Customer service, it turns out, is alive and well — just not always where you'd expect it. But the main theme of this episode is AI. Not the doom-and-gloom kind, but the real stuff: the tools I'm already using, how they're reshaping our workflows, and how they might be reshaping entire economies. It's not AI that's coming for your job — it's the photographer who learns to harness it. We talk about: AI tools I already use (like EVOTO, Imagine AI, ChatGPT, and XCi) Using AI as a teaching assistant, sub-editor, and productivity coach The real-world implications of AI-generated ads, coding layoffs, and what it means for creatives Plans for a new AI section on masteringportraitphotography.com And if you hang in there until the end, I'll tell you about a girl named Dory, a gutsy 12-year-old contortionist, and the new edition of Mastering Portrait Photography — complete with fresh images, a decade of stories, and a very special launch offer. So pop on your headphones, admire the wheat fields if you've got them, and come along for the ride. Spoiler: there's C3PO's eye in here too. Yes, really.
What happens when humanitarian aid gets pulled, but the needs don't stop? In this episode, we talk with Dr. Beth Stuebing, a missionary surgeon in Malawi with the Christian Health Service Corps. She shares what it's like on the front lines of healthcare when funding disappears—and why faith-based organizations working on the ground can't do it alone. You'll hear stories of courage and sacrifice, including one from a local surgeon, Dr. Mumba, who literally gave his own blood to save a patient. We also discuss how local churches are stepping up, the power of partnerships, and why global health needs more attention from governments and Christian communities alike. Beth also shares her journey from growing up in Zambia to mentoring young doctors in Malawi. It's a conversation about hope, grit, and what it means to show up when it counts. Archie is joined by Dan, Seve, and Mark to sift through the wreckage of a gut-wrenching defeat—one that could be the final nail in Argyle's survival bid. They break down the defensive errors that proved costly, the fleeting hope of a comeback, and a strong second-half display where it felt like Argyle might go on to take all three points. They also debate the substitutions that seemed to sap the momentum from the attack and the tactical decisions that left the team exposed. But in truth, did Muslic have any other choice? There's some recognition of individual performances, with Bundu, Hardie, and Mumba all earning praise. But the bigger picture looms large—what happens next if relegation to League One becomes a reality? The pod examines where it all went wrong, what lessons need to be learned, and whether there's still the faintest glimmer of hope.Support the show Hosted on Acast. Ajit Chauhan's story is undoubtedly inspirational. His life is a perfect example of struggle, hard work, and determination. The sacrifices made by his family, his father working as a truck driver, starting a vegetable-selling business to meet the family's daily needs, and at the same time, nurturing his passion for kabaddi with unwavering dedication — all of these aspects highlight Ajit's persistence and resilience. Though his journey into kabaddi began with opposition from his family, his coach recognized his potential and gave him the opportunity to pursue the sport. Given the financial struggles at home, Ajit had to take up various odd jobs to support his family, but he never let go of his kabaddi training. Even while working as a delivery boy for Blinkit, he prioritized his kabaddi practice. It was this hard work and determination that led to his breakthrough in Pro Kabaddi. As a key player for U Mumba, he made an impact in the very first season, helping the team advance. His relentless effort, the sacrifices made for his family, and his deep love for kabaddi all contributed to his success. Ajit Chauhan's life is a remarkable example of perseverance, selflessness, and staying committed to one's goals. I think we can all agree when I say it's waaayy easier to disobey than to obey. Just as it's easier to hate than to love. But when you're intentional about obedience and love, the end reward is priceless! Episode Title: Kredo Korner: Disobedience Obedience is the practical acceptance of the authority and will of God. It includes both submitting to Him and then expressing that submission in actions, words and thoughts. To be obedient, is to be in agreement with God. To be in agreement with God is to be in a position of power in Christ. Disobedience is caused by rebellion and distrust of God. To be disobedient is to yield to self-will instead of surrendering to God and desiring His will in all things. On June 4, 1976 a strong Tropical Cyclone, known in the US as a Hurricane, hit the port cities just north of Mumba on the west coast of India. In the decades prior to the storm, massive Tropical Cyclones has battered both the west and east coasts of India with huge waves and heavy rains resulting in massive flooding and tremendous loss of life. Along the Indian east coast, especially in the northern part of the Bay of Bengal, the area is flat, almost at sea level for hundreds of square miles and ocean water is often pushed far inland because of the flat land. Significant warning times are needed to evacuate people out of harm's way. Prior to the late 1960s and early 1970's and the advent of satellite coverage very little warning lead time occurred. But by 1976 new technology had allowed for enough notice, in certain situations, for people to get out of the way. On June 4, 1976 despite a 40-foot storm surge ample notice was given and most people were able to evacuate, despite this 70 people still perished.
