We then count down the greatest birthday party scenes in TV and film. In place of our typical trivia segment, we instead do a "Come to the Stable" review, looking at a random film from the past none of us have seen. Editors - Geoff Richman ACE, Joe Landauer, Keith Fraase ACE The Severance editing team of Geoff Richman, Joe Landauer and Keith Fraase discuss their experiences and creative processes for the hit show's second season. They talk about their initial impressions of the project, preparation to join the show, and specific challenges in editing various episodes. Highlights include creating complex montages, handling visual effects, maintaining geographic and narrative coherence, and managing ambitious scenes like Mark's dual-dialogue via a DV camera. They also discuss the excitement of uncovering scripts and scenes as the series progresses. Created by Dan Erickson and exec produced (and often directed) by Ben Stiller, SEVERANCE follows employees at the biotechnology corporation Lumon Industries who have undergone "severance"—a medical procedure that ensures they retain no memories of the outside world while at work and have no recollection of their job once they leave. This results in two distinct personalities for each employee: the "innie", who exists solely within Lumon, and the "outie", who lives their personal life outside of work. GEOFF RICHMAN, ACE Geoffrey Richman, ACE, is a picture editor known for his work on both scripted and unscripted film and TV. Earlier credits include work on documentaries such as Murderball and Sicko, as well as documentary series such as Anthony Bourdain's A Cook's Tour. Geoffrey is also known for his work on the documentary The Cove, in addition to his editing work for Mike Birbiglia's comedy specials Thank God For Jokes and The New One. Additional credits include work on scripted mini series such as Escape at Dannemora. Most recently Geoffrey has worked on 2020's Tiger King, Til Kingdom Come, as well as Palmer for Apple TV+. JOE LANDAUER Joe Landauer is an editor known for Signs (2002), Time Cut (2024) and Hello, Goodbye and Everything in Between (2022) KEITH FRAASE, ACE Originally intending to be an actor, Keith Fraase fell in love with behind-the-camera work while at the University of Texas at Austin. Then he thought he wanted to be a cinematographer, but eventually fell into an apprentice editor job with Sandra Adair, ACE, to replace a friend who was leaving that position on Elvis and Annabelle (2007). Since then, he has worked on projects such as This the Night, Naomi Osaka, and Past Lives, for which he was nominated for an ACE Eddie Award.  The Credits Visit ExtremeMusic for all your production audio needs Check out what's new with Avid Media Composer Subscribe to The Rough Cut podcast and never miss an episode Visit The Rough Cut on YouTube

In 1976, a group of friends invented a game at a rehab hospital in Canada, which they called 'murderball'. It was debuted at the World Wheelchair Games in 1990 and called wheelchair rugby. It became a full Paralympic Sport at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Duncan "The Quadfather" Campbell was one of the 'founding fathers' of the game after a diving accident caused a spinal cord injury. He tells Megan Jones about why they wanted to create something new and what inspired them.Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive and testimony. Mark Zupan's mental toughness and a competitive drive to be his best self helped his overcome a broken neck and end up being the best quad rugby player in the world in 2008.   Grit is the word that best defines the journey of Mark Zupan.  An eighteen year old collegiate soccer player who played hard and partied harder got throw from a truck and ended up waking up in a ditch  hanging on to his life by a branch.    His paralyzing neck injury forced him to start his life over and literally learn everything over again:  how to eat, pee, and get around in a chair.  He recounts how he  was surrounded by great friends, loving parents  who helped him overcome the rehabilitation process.  And it was his mental toughness  kept him fighting for the opportunity to get his life back.  And then he found Quad-Rugby.   His world changed when he had a competitive outlet for his will to be his best.  Mark's live is all about pushing the limits and in doing so, he led the USA Men's Quad-Rugby team to win a bronze medal in 2004 and Gold in 2008 in Beijing, China.  About Mark Zupan:After his accident, Zupan graduated from Georgia Tech, became a two-time quad rugby national champion, the 2004 quad rugby player of the year. He was a member of the bronze medal-winning U.S. team at the 2004 Paralympic Games  and the gold medal-winning team at the 2008 Games. He is a resident of Dripping Springs, TX.When asked if he would "turn back the clock on that day", Zupan answered "No, I don't think so. My injury has led me to opportunities and experiences and friendships I would never have had before. And it has taught me about myself. In some ways, it's the best thing that ever happened to me."After a soccer game on October 14, 1993, Zupan got drunk with teammates at a bar and then crawled into the back of friend Chris Igoe's truck to sleep. Some time later Igoe left the bar unaware that Zupan was asleep in the back. Driving drunk, Igoe spun out and Zupan was thrown from the pickup bed, over a fence, and into a canal, where he held onto a branch for 14 hours until being discovered by a passerby.[1] He went into hypothermia and became paralyzed as a result of the accident. Zupan has incomplete quadriplegia and is able to walk for short distances with crutches.[2]He was also in the movie Jackass II in a skit called "Lake Jump", where his wheelchair was rigged up with carbon monoxide tanks and pushed off a ramp by Chris Pontius.  Before taking off, the tanks triggered, launching him off of the ramp and into the lake. About Murderball: Murderball is a 2005 American documentary film about athletes who are physically disabled who play wheelchair rugby.  It centers on the rivalry between the Canadian and U.S Teams leading up to the 2004 Paralympic Games. A Sassy Little Podcast for Getting Over It with Sandra Ann Miller

Great way to find a husband? Bed shopping. Teaching in the time of COVID (in Arizona). It's okay to be different. In a wheelchair for 20 years (not thinking she'd make it through the first year). Serving as an example to her students in what can be achieved. Going from an independent 15-year-old to feeling like a 15-month-old. Rebuilding brick by brick. Challenges of being a new teacher (it's never a 40-hour workweek). Nothing "is what it is". Taking "I can never" out of her students' vernacular. Growing up instantly after the accident. Evaluate challenges for what they are (hold onto the lesson; let the emotional shit go). Inside Out. Mental noise. Learning patience and perseverance. Brain injury, spinal shock, induced coma and two months in rehab relearning everything. Constantly tired for two years. Patient teachers/cheerleaders. Showing her students that people in wheelchairs are equal. Family patience and trauma. The energy it takes to have a disability. Women are amazing. Technology and vehicle are big help in getting access to the world. Expense of disability ($10k for a manual wheelchair). Clothing—learning what works. Listening to vinyl. Love/hate relationship with disability. Inability to regulate body temperature. Intentional in what one does because of the time and energy involved. Forty-five minutes to get ready/dressed, one hour for makeup. Travelling. Going downhill backwards.  The pain-in-the-ass (and expense) of renting a car (getting stuck with a minivan). Hating the word "handicap".  Not a whole lot of accessible taxis. Shoulders going to shit (eventually).  Having to "prove" your disability in Phoenix. Abusing the system. DON'T PARK IN THE HANDICAP SPOT. People don't think about how long it takes a person with a disability to do something. DON'T USE THE HANDICAP STALL IN THE BATHROOM, do not pee on the seat, flush the toilet and it's not your changing room. DON'T USE THE HANDICAP CHANGING ROOM. Cost of modifying vehicle (a $100k minivan?!?). Mentoring with her mom. Wheelchair rugby/murderball. Empowerment of playing sports. Grief with acquiring and managing a disability. Being non-traditional. Thriving outside of the home. Being a doer.  Finding your fit. Being treated like a person. A wonderful son. Loving her little family.
