Phaase Bio Rapidly making his way onto the scene, Harry Thomas A.K.A PHAASE is a Bristol-based producer creating Drum and Bass bangers for the masses. Growing up in the outskirts of Bristol, Harry started experimenting with music production at the age of 12 at a Logic Pro workshop where he started making House and Dubstep, posting tracks on SoundCloud. A decade on, PHAASE is stepping up to the decks to play screwface-inducing Jump Up, Rollers and Dancefloor Drum and Bass tunes from his own catalogue anywhere from Bristol to Paris. In 2020, PHAASE dropped his melodic jump up track Was It Worth It (Self-Release) featuring the vocals of Bath-based singer Cazzy, which shortly after release received support on BBC Radio 1. Following this success, collaborating with vocalists became a part of his workflow for many of his future works, leading to him working with M4DZ and Frilla on his Dance With Me EP (Subwoofah). This EP set the precedent of PHAASE's new sound, with screechy basslines, foghorns and distorted 808s. The EP was well supported, with downloads from Aries, DC Breaks, DJ SS, Ed Solo, Euphonique, Jaguar, Mandidextrous and Nicky Blackmarket to name a few. With support from these artists, tracks from the EP were played to crowds at the biggest festivals in the country, such as Glastonbury and Boomtown. The title track from Dance With Me was also later included on Euphonique & Dazee's Welcome To The Jungle compilation on Jungle Cakes. But PHAASE isn't slowing down any time soon. With countless dubs ready to shatter dancefloors worldwide, you can expect an intense wall of sound and tekky blends and mixes at a PHAASE show. TJA Bio TJA is a versatile songwriter and vocalist. She draws on influences found in her jazz background and her upbringing around Caribbean music. TJA adopts her initials as her alias to maintain a strong connection to her roots as she breaks through the music industry. TJA is a new performance artist in the drum and bass scene and her intentions are to bring people closer to themselves, by showcasing vulnerability in her lyrics and offering her soulful melodies to connect her audience to a higher vibration.

The jungle and drum & bass pioneer—and captivating storyteller—unpacks his life, career and new book. Alongside peers like Fabio, Grooverider, Jumping Jack Frost, Randall, Micky Finn, LTJ Bukem and Nicky Blackmarket, Ray Keith played a leading role as jungle took over London in the mid '90s. His new autobiographical book, Dark Soldier, is a reflection on his life: his personal journey, his career, the highs and lows, and the many people who have influenced him. It's also the story of how he and the scene moved from analogue into electronic music. "I was in the right place at the right time," he said in this week's Resident Advisor Exchange, referring to the many Monday nights spent at Heaven in London, catching sets from the likes of Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold and Paul "Trouble" Anderson. "I was a purist, absorbing the sounds." Keith has put out so many records over the years, under so many different aliases, that he's lost count. He's also had radio shows on Vibe FM, Kiss FM and recently Thames Delta radio, cofounded a booking agency and headed up several record labels. He's a legend in the scene with a wealth of stories to tell. In this week's Exchange, Keith talks about growing up in Colchester, the importance of record stores as a community hub, dubplate culture, how music saved his life and the thrill of watching his daughter, AKA LO Selecta, play her first DJ set. Enter the brand new mix series at JDNB… ‘Shadow Boxers.' A monthly guest mix, putting the spotlight on the finest selectors and producers this scene has to offer, invited to flex their sound for a cool 45 minutes. We're psyched to open this series with the raw sounds of Tuskan [AFT/Dread]. Tuskan, is a South-West UK based Producer and DJ, making and playing jungle drum & bass. Inspired by the recordings he made from One in Jungle on Radio One in the early Nineties, he is a first generation junglist, taking in the whole spectrum and history of the genre, with all it's influences, whilst remaining upfront as the genre expands and evolves. Tuskan has been stepping things up in 2019, building a studio, and crafting his own sound, bringing the best of analogue hardware and digital together. Recent tuition from Goldie's long time engineer and collaborator, Heist, has helped bring his sound from a self taught bedroom producer into the realms where he has seen releases on some of the scenes die hard labels like Ray Keith's Dread Recordings and support from the likes of Bladerunner, Serial Killaz and Rebel Mc AKA Congo Natty. Recent signings to Bristol based AFT Records, co-owned by one of the scenes top MCs, Carasel, has seen Tuskan's first Solo EP ‘the Bricks' released in October this year. With the EP being played on the BBC and gaining respect from legends like Nicky Blackmarket and Ed Solo, has set the pace for a slew of forthcoming releases on the AFT Label in 2020. All this, plus a long time coming collaboration with the vocalist J-Man, taking a huge influence from dancehall, which has be picked up by Heist for his Co-Lab imprint, along side a remix from the label boss himself! 2020 is looking strong for this jungle warrior. So this week, another one from my extended cultural family is London’s one and only, Theo Keating otherwise known as the infamous Fake Blood and UK Graffiti’s very own Snatch CWS/ PFB/TO… This guy, since ive been in the culture, this guy’s pieces have been it for me.. I might be looking and reminiscing at the past with glazed eyes but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bad piece by this guy.. All fire, all the time.. My favourites must include the '93 Unity Jam piece in Fulham, crazy cool and fresh and would stand up today easily, 25 yrs on and you hear us chat about that painting and more but apart from just getting my graffiti drenched brain more fodder another reason I got Theo round was to hear about how he got into music and what lead him to make a career out of it and one with so much adventure too! We talk loads about music and all types from Nicky Blackmarket and his influence in Jungle music to Acid House and making his own music also Really great him coming over and getting to hear about his journey.
