Dad Bod Rap Pod is back with a double dose of interviews. We kick off this week's show with some thoughts on the passing of the legendary music producer and raconteur Quincy Jones. Then we have an interview with Prince Po, one half of the almighty Organized Konfusion. We had a chance to interview Pharoahe Monch a few years back, and we have been looking forward to completing the cypher on this legendary group for some time. Po was kind enough to join us for a conversation, and we discussed his influences, the changes between albums that led to the making of the legendary Stress: The Extinction Agenda, as well as his ties to our hometown of San Jose. On the back half of the program we have a chat with friends of the program Fat Tony and Fatboi Sharif, who recently released a project with Steel Tipped Dove called Brain Candy. We get into how these underground stalwarts originally connected, the importance of in-person recording, and more. Please note that this episode was recorded before we knew the results of the election. Like many of you, we are trying to make sense of the dark reality of this political moment. Hopefully our show can help provide a moment of solace in these trying times. DBRP is hosted by Demone Carter, David Ma, and Nate LeBlanc. Theme song produced by Cutso and DEM ONE. Bronx-born producer Buckwild was, and continues to be, instrumental in this ever-growing movement. For the past few years, hip-hop producer, Buckwild, has contributed a countless amount of classics to a game that's a mere 20 years into its prime. Alumni of the D.T.I.C.(Diggin' in the Crates) school of beat making, Buckwild-a former DJ-first earned a respectable reputation as one of New York City's most bought mix-tape DJ's in the early 90's. Under the guidance of his neighbors/mentors and fellow established artist Lord Finesse of Diamond D, Buckwild made the jump from DJ to producer with 1993's "Shit Is Real" featuring both Diamond, Finesse along with Sadat X of Brand Nubian. The song would be the first of many underground classics constructed at the hands of Buckwild.  A year later, Buckwild provided the unforgettable backdrop for O.C. for what became the classic, "Times Up". Soon thereafter, Buck found himself remixing tracks for underground mainstays, such as Funk Doobiest, ("Rock On"), The Alcoholiks ("Damn") and Artifacts ("C'mon Wit Da Get Down" w/ Busta Rhymes) to name a few. By 1995 it was clear as day; artist requested a "Buckwild Remix" on their single releases. Buckwild's remix clout soon blossomed into album cut request. For the next few years, Buckwild conjured up a slew of classic backgrounds for underground delegates such as Mic Geronimo, Organized Konfusion, O.C. as well as Capone-N-Noreaga just to name a few. An advance in Buckwild's already promising career took place in1996 when he provided the late, great Notorious B.I.G. with the mellow exotic-backdrop for "Story To Tell", off the multi-platinum release, Life After Death. The song became one of the greatest rap-tales in hip-hop history. Soon thereafter Buckwild accommodated memorable backgrounds for legends like Jay-Z, Kool G. Rap and the late Big Pun, respectively. Just when the world thought they'd heard the Bronx vet at his peek, Buckwild supplied Bad Boy Artist Black Rob, with the precise background for an idea Black Rob had named "Whoa". Sure enough, the aptly titled, "Whoa", became the biggest record of 2000 and helped push a mildly anticipated album towards platinum status. That same year, Buckwild was named one of The Source Magazine's Producers of the Year. Having supplied Bad Boy with some of its most memorable hits, Buckwild was given a position among P.Diddy's prestigious Hit Men; a group of producers who supply P.Diddy with his chart topping sound. At the dawn of the new millennium, Buck continues to push towards the next level heights by working with an array of artists. Not one to forget his roots, Buckwild continues to provide the established and the non-established with outstanding backdrops that provide a particular feel for each respected artist; thus continuing to push this hip-hop-movement toward the new century.  Support the showWEBSITE AND MERCH! - http://www.officialchopshoppod.com

Happy Born Day, Bash! 6 is the dopest number! So let's just start off by writing this. No one will probably ever see this truly brilliant and blessed episode of BK and AY doing their thang like no one's bizness. They laid it out perfectly for highlighting and gassing up the year's 1993 and 1994 in hip hop/rap. Brutal honest stories and reflections and sentiments and flash backs and relatable forwards.... The entire recipe cooked so well in this episode but unfortunately the powers that be are like HELL NO!!! No one can see this. Copy rights... WTF?!? Adui Yako and BK ain't ever tried to steal from no one or take anyone else's shine as or for their own. That's not the way big business sees it. WPI had been warned of the no play zone they entered with some of the selections they chose to share. And if these songs were played then a strict no question no see zone would immediately be implemented. And so it stands just as that right now. It's so bad that we don't even want to write the names of the songs or the groups that were played because that to might be for whatever reason a problem or some broken law/rule. Ridiculous but a potential fact. We Play It shares greatness for great reasons. The people and music that are played are seen only in the highest respect at WPI. WPI gives flowers to those they play and for some reason this is not being understood nor cared about by the powers to be. 1993 and 1994, you were the epitome of rap music and the standard set without ever being truly defined or needed to be. You turned young men into proud soldiers literally. You kicked open a door no one saw, no one believed should be there, and no one thought anyone else would walk through, but we all know now that was definitely not the case. Everyone is inside the room of rap now because of that door. Everyone! So many more that we played and that we didn't play. Thank you! Thank you for cementing hip hop and paving a way for all of us to build endless paths to wherever one may want or need to go. For this episode, we are joined by a hip-hop legend, New York emcee O.C. of the crew Diggin' in the Crates (DITC), but he's humble enough to not accept that title just yet. O.C. originally jumped on the scene as a guest on Organized Konfusion's “Fudge Pudge”, the soon after on the remix of MC Serch's “Back to the Grill”. O.C. would go on to meet the likes of Lord Finesse and Buckwild from DITC, and Buckwild would produce most of his debut album Word…Life released in late 1994 on Wild Pitch Records that would spawn classic tracks like “Times Up” and “Born 2 Live”. In Summer of 1997, O.C. released his sophomore album Jewelz via Pay Day Records, but there was no sign of a slump here. Fueled by the DJ Premier-produced “My World” and the Buckwild-produced “Far From Yours”, O.C. had another classic in the books with Jewelz. O.C. would go on to release countless solo and collaborative albums throughout the years, still keeping his pen tight now at the age of 50.

This week we have a great interview with legendary hip-hop producer Buckwild. From the 90's to the present, Buckwild has produced some of the greatest songs in hip-hop history with artists like O.C., Organized Konfusion, Notorious B.I.G., Kool G Rap, Nas, and many others. Buckwild is a laid back guy and not prone to self promotion, but consider this episode the beginning of a campaign to refer to him as a super-producer. In the third segment our hosts hold an extensive conversation on the merits of the new album Haram from rap group Armand Hammer and producer The Alchemist. You know, the usual - mix show on Tuesday, all new joints, Meeks and Doe talking trash, and then an interview session to follow on Thursday. However, the universe had something different in mind. These two legends were originally scheduled to be on the mix show this week to talk about “AGAINST ALL ODDS,” their new project with DA ODD COUPLE (ROB SWIFT & MISTA SINISTA of the X-ECUTIONERS) and keep it moving - but this thing turned into a TWO AND HALF HOUR history lesson. We let the tape roll and said forget all the new rap this week, this conversation is too important to stop. We're all feeling good on this episode thanks to some incredibly strong edibles and the sounds of the 90s. For many, this show will take you right back to high school with classics and forgotten gems from King Just, Private Investigators, Now Born Click, Da King & I, Kurious, Gravediggaz, Organized Konfusion, OutKast, Big Mike, Cash Money Click, Boogiemonsters, Trends of Culture, World Renown, KMD, plus, DJ 360 laces us with a remix of Woo-Hah. We also got a little friendly DJ battle between DJ 360 vs. DJ Krisis on this episode. Trust me, you don't want to miss this! Track list:

For one of the most popular, beloved, and commercially successful bands of the 1970s, Earth, Wind, & Fire have become something of an afterthought by the 2010s. Bandleader Maurice White's death in February 2016 earned a few loving obituaries, but mostly got lost in the shuffle between Bowie and Prince's respective passings. More recently, Taylor Swift's gentrified, tone-deaf cover of their signature hit “September” underscored a sad reality: Earth, Wind, & Fire have passed the Beach Boys “Endless Summer” threshold and become a Greatest Hits band, their songs part of the cultural wallpaper. For the inaugural episode of Discord & Rhyme, host Rich Bunnell uses EWF's 1977 release All ‘n All to illustrate that EWF were far more than a playlist's worth of hit singles. All ‘n All is the arguable peak of an incredible run of late-'70s albums, several of which deserve to be viewed as part of the canon alongside Revolver, Songs in the Key of Life, and Dark Side of the Moon. And their influence on hip-hop has been astronomical, their grooves and riffs providing the basis for tracks by Brand Nubian, MF DOOM, A Tribe Called Quest, Organized Konfusion, Big Pun — the list goes on and on and on.Three out of four co-hosts this week had little to no experience with All ‘n All before researching this episode, so this premiere should be educational! Tune in next episode when Amanda dives into the Moody Blues' On the Threshold of a Dream, an album every one of us knows to a fine grain.Cohosts: Rich Bunnell, Mike DeFabio, Phil Maddox, Amanda RodgersComplete show notes: https://discordpod.com/listen/2018/6/26/episode-001-earth-wind-fire-all-n-allDiscord & Rhyme's merch store: http://tee.pub/lic/discordpodSupport the podcast! https://www.patreon.com/discordpod

Episode 13 has no tributes, no interviews and it's not 6 hours long. We bring it back to basics and focus on the music. With new joints by Perestroika, Supastition, Conway, Hus Kingpin, Everlast and MC Eiht, plus 90s classics from Redman, Organized Konfusion, Ultramagnetic MC's, Big L, Diamond D and A Tribe Called Quest, we got you covered. At the break, we discuss The Defiant Ones, which kind of turns into a Jimmy Iovine slob fest, but entertaining nonetheless. Please remember to rate and review our show if you're feeling it.
