In this episode, my focus is uncovering the financial challenges faced by doulas today and I explore the main reasons why some achieve significant financial success while others continue to struggle. The importance of a smart business model is a top priority in building a financially stable business, but the close second and third are pricing that not only reflects your value but also allows you to live comfortably and the need for scalable income streams. I happily share the strategies that I used to build my business and encourage other birth and postpartum professionals to take actionable steps towards the growth and expansion of theirs.Join Birth Boss Society here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/birth-boss-society-landing-pageYou can find me at:www.hiptoheart.comhttps://www.instagram.com/hiptoheartJoin the Hip to Heart Birth Boss Academy here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/birth-boss-academyApply to the Hip to Heart AgencyProgram here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/agency-transition-classJoin my Facebook group for Birth + Postpartum Professionalshttps://www.facebook.com/groups/businessforbirth
In this episode I'm chatting with postpartum doula Jen Tawil, who uniquely combines her experience as a former private investigator with her doula practice and from that came the creation of her first digital course, The Private Eye Parent. Passive income is a must when we are building our businesses because it allows us to intentionally divide our time between in person clients and working on our business, creating more free time and income coming in that we aren't trading time for.All it took was one client sharing her method for choosing childcare that made Jen realize there was a huge need for PI expertise in her client community. Throughout the episode, Jen emphasizes the importance of informed decision-making and the creation of resources that empower parents.Private Eye Parent was designed to equip families with the tools to conduct thorough interviews for childcare, ultimately aiming to reduce anxiety and enhance peace of mind, staying right in line with exactly what doulas do.Find out more about Jen:IG https://www.instagram.com/theprivateeyedoulaPrivate Eye Parent course www.privateeyeparent.com Join Birth Boss Society here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/birth-boss-society-landing-pageYou can find me at:www.hiptoheart.comhttps://www.instagram.com/hiptoheartJoin the Hip to Heart Birth Boss Academy here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/birth-boss-academyApply to the Hip to Heart AgencyProgram here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/agency-transition-classJoin my Facebook group for Birth + Postpartum Professionalshttps://www.facebook.com/groups/businessforbirth

In this episode of the Birth Boss podcast, I'm sitting down with with Hilary Melchiors, owner of the Doula Group of Evansville, and fun fact, the only certified postpartum doula in a 75 mile radius of her! This brings up some differences in the way we started and currently run our agencies, which is somewhat dependent on our geographical location, which turned into a highlighting a huge benefit of agencies that is rarely talked about... providing sustainability for doulas. We discuss how being a doula has evolved over the years and how now, with insurance coverage and employer benefits, the importance of certification is more apparent now than ever before. This brings up the a deeper conversation about the need for better doula training and community building within our profession and why collaboration over competition wins every time. In this episode I emphasizes the importance of not only recognizing, but normalizing entrepreneurship within the doula profession. I share a little bit about my personal journey from being a doula to establishing an agency, highlighting the significance of viewing myself as a business owner from early on, and not "just a doula". Throughout this episode I highlight the need for continuous learning, setting business goals, and investing in both personal and professional development, which led me into the reasons I created (and curated!) the Birth Boss CEO Summit, an event aimed at empowering doulas to embrace their entrepreneurial spirit and build successful businesses that align with their lifestyles.More information + registration for the 2025 Birth Boss CEO Summit: https://www.hiptoheart.com/birth-boss-ceo-summitJoin Birth Boss Society here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/birth-boss-society-landing-pageYou can find me at:www.hiptoheart.comhttps://www.instagram.com/hiptoheartJoin the Hip to Heart Birth Boss Academy here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/birth-boss-academyApply to the Hip to Heart AgencyProgram here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/agency-transition-classJoin my Facebook group for Birth + Postpartum Professionalshttps://www.facebook.com/groups/businessforbirth
In this episode, I am chatting with Ananda Lowe, owner of the Boston Doula Circle agency, about her journey of transitioning from a solo doula practice to an agency model. First we discuss the benefits of buying an established agency versus starting from scratch and then go into detail about the importance of organization and putting together the right team. It's crucial to focus, of course, on doula skills, but also recognize what other things they can bring into your agency. Building your admin team from within, most times, makes the most sense.Next we go into the challenges of rebranding and navigating the business purchase process. Ananda shares her experiences and insights on agency ownership, emphasizing the need for effective communication within the business and the value of working with a variety of professionals to get the results your looking for... the ones that align and represent your brand exactly the way you envision.A recurring theme in this conversation is the importance of building a close network of trusted people that understand and support the nuances of agency ownership. Throughout the episode we also touch on the financial health of our businesses and why you can never lose sight of knowing your worth as the owner. You can find Ananda here:BOOK: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/103907/the-doula-guide-to-birth-by-ananda-lowe-and-rachel-zimmerman/AGENCY: https://www.bostondoulacircle.com/ SOCIAL: @bostondoulacircleYOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/@bostondoulacircle2028Join Birth Boss Society here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/birth-boss-society-landing-pageYou can find me at:www.hiptoheart.comhttps://www.instagram.com/hiptoheartJoin the Hip to Heart Birth Boss Academy here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/birth-boss-academyApply to the Hip to Heart AgencyProgram here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/agency-transition-classJoin my Facebook group for Birth + Postpartum Professionalshttps://www.facebook.com/groups/businessforbirth
In this episode I talk all about the transformative power of in-person events! I love the unique energy and engagement that comes from face to face interactions and it's impossible to recreate those virtually. That's not to say that virtual events can't be amazing, because they can, but nothing compares to having your community within arms reach.I also share the story of how the Birth Boss Society was created, which was to fill the big gap in community and education for high-caliber doula business owners and how, from that, came the Birth Boss CEO Summit, a 3 day transformative event, live in Boston April 5-7. I can't wait for the deep personal connections, meaningful relationship building, rich engagement and the unmatchable energy that will be felt from everyone that attends. For more information about the 2025 Birth Boss CEO Summit or to register: https://www.hiptoheart.com/birth-boss-ceo-summitJoin Birth Boss Society here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/birth-boss-society-landing-pageYou can find me at:www.hiptoheart.comhttps://www.instagram.com/hiptoheartJoin the Hip to Heart Birth Boss Academy here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/birth-boss-academyApply to the Hip to Heart AgencyProgram here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/agency-transition-classJoin my Facebook group for Birth + Postpartum Professionalshttps://www.facebook.com/groups/businessforbirth
In this episode I am chatting with RN, IBCLC and entrepreneur Leslie Owens about her journey into the field, the importance of lactation support, and the need for more professionals in this area. We discuss the challenges faced by new parents, the benefits of breastfeeding, and the role of education and mentorship in becoming a lactation consultant, which is no easy feat... unless you have Leslie to help! Leslie shares how she created her program from her own journey of becoming an IBCLC and how she designed it to make the path to becoming an IBCLC more accessible for everyone. We also discuss how it expanded her business and brings in passive income. We talk about the importance of finding time freedom and flexibility in our business practices, emphasizing the need for intentional family time and sustainable business models. In this episode, I finally get to share the details on the Birth Boss CEO Summit, a 3 event designed for birth professionals to enhance their business and personal growth. I designed the summit to focus on key areas such as financial planning, business expansion, and personal lifestyle management, three important pieces of the business owner puzzle. The Birth Boss CEO Summit came about because I was looking for an event to attend that focused not only on the logistics of building and scaling my business, but also cultivating community and designing the lifestyle I wanted for myself as the CEO. It was also important to me as a doula agency owner to have a time solely focused on that particular business structure and the unique aspects it brings, so in addition to the 2 day main event, the 3rd day will be exclusively for agency owners. The Birth Boss CEO Summit will take place April 5-7, 2025 in Boston, with a very limited number of seats available.More information about the 2025 Birth Boss CEO Summit: https://www.hiptoheart.com/birth-boss-ceo-summitJoin Birth Boss Society here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/birth-boss-society-landing-pageYou can find me at:www.hiptoheart.comhttps://www.instagram.com/hiptoheartJoin the Hip to Heart Birth Boss Academy here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/birth-boss-academyApply to the Hip to Heart AgencyProgram here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/agency-transition-classJoin my Facebook group for Birth + Postpartum Professionalshttps://www.facebook.com/groups/businessforbirth
In this episode I am chatting with Kristin Revere, doula agency owner, author, podcast host and educator. Over the conversation , Kristin talks about the moves she has made to get to where she is now, sole owner of Gold Coast Doula Agency. She started in a collective, then moved into a partnership, but ultimately decided being a sole owner fit her lifestyle and goals the best. We realized quite a few times in this chat that we run our businesses in a very similar fashion... the way we prioritize tasks, dedicate time to our clients and schedule in breaks that we need. Those are our keys to success! Big takeaway: You don't ever have to be stuck in one place if it doesn't serve you well. The ultimate goal is to build a business that brings us true joy, allows us to live the life we dream of and affords us the freedom to intentionally divide our time between business and personal/family. Oh yeah, and grow our bank accounts too! It's my favorite time of year!I absolutely love looking back at the past year and analyzing every part of my business and then looking forward to next year and setting goals. It's important to create different categories for your analysis. I would start with growth in terms of your email list, Instagram followers, members of your private groups, etc. Then I would move over to basic numbers like gross revenue, net revenue, and then figure out your profit margins. I would list out all of your offers and services and see which one performed best, which was the worst and then hopefully it aligns with which you love the most and which drain your energy. Now looking forward to 2025, it's time to make appropriate adjustments! Set realistic goals for yourself based on the different categories of years past and take into consideration anything that you are adding or taking away. The things that are your best sellers, ask yourself if they need any updating and then plan for that. You also need to figure out if you are adding anything new and if so, will add more work to your week or will you be delegating to someone else so you stay within the boundaries of the time you want to commit to working. Now it's time to set your schedule! To be able to go more in depth with you, I am hosting a free 2025 Strategic Planning workshop Tuesday December 17 at 1pm EST. In this episode, I talk you through setting goals for yourself and making long-term plans... and then taking that big goal, reverse engineering it to figure out exactly what you're going to need, the skills you will have to learn, and potentially who is going to help you along the way to achieve the magic. Think about where you are in your business right now and what your big goal is. It probably looks significantly different than what you're doing now, which is exactly what you want! Eventually, as your business grows, you grow as the business owner! You become the CEO, COO, CFO, MVP and obviously the VIP. It's really important to prepare for that because you will not be the same person that you are right now. Thinking and dreaming about what you want your business to look like and what your life will be like as the owner, you definitely want to make a list of the things that you should know or will need to know to make all of those dreams come true. You don't want to be a fly by the seat of your pants leader! It's not the time to fake it til you make it. There's a time in a place for that, but not when you're running a multi six or seven figure business!Join Birth Boss Society here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/birth-boss-society-landing-pageYou can find me at:www.hiptoheart.comhttps://www.instagram.com/hiptoheartJoin the Hip to Heart Birth Boss Academy here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/birth-boss-academyApply to the Hip to Heart AgencyProgram here:https://www.hiptoheart.com/agency-transition-classJoin my Facebook group for Birth + Postpartum Professionalshttps://www.facebook.com/groups/businessforbirth

Date: 3-21-23Travel More PodcastMake sure to enter the giveaway here! https://travelmorepodcast.com/landing-pageYou've heard it before, the classic question following victories, major achievements and the super bowl - what will you do next? We're going to Disney World! But how do you get there? What does it typically cost? Is it really a once-in-a-lifetime trip that is growing out of reach for many families? Today we tackle our budget breakdown of a typical family trip to Disney, with our exclusive tips and tricks on how to make your vacation work for your budget.Chapters#1 Disney World LingoThere are three categories of accommodations at Disney World and those are: Value, Moderate and Deluxe. As you can imagine, the perks you get with each level increase as the price increases. There are a few sweet spots in each category but they generally have a price range they stick to. By knowing each category, you'll know exactly what to expect and whether or not you want to splurge to get a nicer resort. There are also three categories of dining at Disney and those are: Quick Service, Table Service and Signature Dining. In our base level budget that we mention in just a second- we only calculate Quick Service food- which is a cafeteria style experience. If you are looking for sit down meals, you'll need to up your budget as well. #2 Our Base Budget Our base budget takes into account a family of four, 2 adults and 2 children (under 9 in Disney's eyes). We have them at a value resort, 4 days at the park (one park per day) and eating 2 quick service meals a day (eating their own food for breakfast and sandwiches for the pool) and about $1000 in transportation- of course this will depend on how you plan to get there. Our budget is $5,000 with all this included. Starting with the base budget, you can see if you want to cut down on that- for example staying off property. Or if you feel like you can add to that- which of course the opportunities for that are endless at Disney World.#3 Our opinion on popular additionsThe #1 splurge in our opinion is a fireworks dessert party. #2 is a droid or lightsaber building reservation (if you're really into Star Wars!). We don't feel like Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is worth it, but there are many furloughed cast members on the facebook page: Ear for Each Other, that do an amazing job! We are back for another interview on Unlocking Your World of Creativity. Today Mark traveled over to Dallas-FortWorth to talk with the co-founder/creator of Real Time Feedback, Adam Alfia. Mark discussed with Adam his innovative new platform and how it's changing the way a customer can communicate with upper management of businesses about issues they are experiencing in a very simple and effective way. Whether that be at a restaurant, a recreational park, a medical clinic, and even a grocery store. “We like to say, give them help before they Yelp!” What is it?It's a QR code. We make it very simple. We don't use an app. Customers never have to download anything.By scanning/taking a picture on your phone of the QR code of the business you're at, you are then automatically taken to that business site. Here's a step-by-step procedure:Scan QR code Takes you to a specific website pageYou put in whatever your issue is Submit (you can be anonymous if you want!)Management of the business receives the message through email, text, or through the company's app connected to businessManagement responds to that customer (YOU) and the customer gets a response via text message on their phone. Begins the open dialogue on the issueThe issue gets resolved in a quick and effective way “When that customer walks across the threshold of your door, they're now in your world. You really have to do a lot to keep 'em engaged, keep them happy, and if they're not happy, you have to make it very easy for them to let someone know.” Examples of how this works:Example scenario #1: Let's say you're in the men's restroom at a business or an arena and you see that the bathroom is out of paper towels and you end up walking out wiping your hands on your pants. You're not gonna walk around and find somebody, right? You scan the QR codes already loaded with the location of the restrooms and it's already prepopulated with the words “paper towels are out” and you can then add more and even say, “Hey, the sink is overflowing or the toilet's running” Example scenario #2:How many times have you gone to the grocery store and you go to return your cart in the parking lot and the whole cart area is full of carts? You're not gonna walk back in with your groceries and find a manager. What Real Time does is have the QR codes ON the cart area. So when you're walking out, you just scan your phone and it automatically sends a message without you having to enter anything that says the parking lot needs attention, please come out. Now you're letting the business know something, and once again you can add additional information.Something to note: Grocery stores and retail stores spend millions of dollars a year for big brands on parking lot dings and dents from runaway carts. We can help solve that very easily or at least a majority of it by knowing when the carts are outta control in your parking lot.Example scenario #3:You're out at the park with your kids and there's a swing broken or there's a sprinkler head that's leaking or anything that you see that needs attention. Instead of having personnel visit the park once a week and aimlessly walk around looking for stuff, now the resident or visitor can be your eyes and ears and let you know about all kinds of issues that really matter to them. Scan the QR code - it opens up a ticket, they can take care of it, and they can respond. They can send the resident/visitor a message back saying, “Hey...

I also kindly request that this office publicly publish its conclusions in the matter.Respectfully,[YOUR FIRST & LAST NAME]----Did you know you can listen to this episode ad-free? Join the Fan Club! You've got an offer ready and have emailed your subscribers. Once. Maybe twice. Sure, you'd like to email them a bit more. That would help with your sales, right? But you just don't know what to email about! So here are 7 sales elements that will give you more reasons to email during your launch and help you create spikes in your sales. Ready to have your mind absolutely blown by these strategies? Let's go! SOME EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: (2:31) Why you should email your audience more than once or twice during a launch. (4:04) Give your audience a guided tour of your sales page through your emails (and learn about the pretend electoral campaign between Paddington Bear and Rupert The Bear). (11:48) Introduce a countdown timer to create urgency (but not right at the start). (14:08) Add a bonus (or more). (16:34) Combine the bonus and the countdown timer. (17:47) Use your testimonials in your emails. (20:20) Don't introduce payment plans or down sell options at the start of your launch. (22:38) Help your customers remove overwhelm and make informed decisions. (25:03) Handle objections. (28:05) Subject line of the week. Why you should email your audience more than once or twice during a launchFirst thing first, how many times do your normally email your list when you launch a new product or service? The day you open the cart and then the day you close it? What happens in between? Can we just agree that two emails aren't really gonna cut it? When you're promoting a new offer, you need to email your list more than once or twice. But how exactly can you keep talking about this thing you're launching? Use your emails to give your audience a guided tour of your sales pageYou see, the key is to have a plan. And your plan should be all about NOT putting everything you have to say about your launch on your sales page. Hold some things back from your sales page so you have a list of valid reasons to email your list. Because during your launch, you want to use your emails to drip out pieces of your offer – email by email. This doesn't mean you're going to strip down your offer and turn it into something weak and mediocre that no one wants. Your offer needs to be amazing from day one! You're just holding off on announcing some of the stuff that most people announce at the start and breaking down the information that lives on your sales page and giving your subscribers a guided tour of it. Your emails are the place where you pick one element of your sales page and talk about it. Why? So that you can walk people through stuff they might have missed and make them pay attention to it. By announcing new things throughout your launch, you create extra surges and spikes in your sales. Because we all know how it goes - launches are made of peaks and troughs. The peaks are the beginning and at the end. You make sales on your first day and then again on the last day before the cart closes. But in between? That's when you have your troughs. So you want to create some momentum - have an excuse to email your subscribers, give them more reasons to buy, and generate more peaks during your launch. Here are 7 things (in no particular order) that will help you do just that. Hold off introducing a countdown timerA lot of people add a countdown timer to their sales page right at the start of their promotion. We suggest you don't do that. Why? First of all, because if you don't put the timer on the sales page right away, it gives you a great reason to email your list later on and let them know when your cart closes. But also, a countdown timer is a mechanism to create urgency - and a very effective one at that. So don't waste it! Because you won't create any urgency if you set your timer waaaay in the future. If you tell everyone that your offer expires in 2 weeks, they have no reason to take notice now. It's only when the hours, minutes and seconds are literally ticking...
