Changing the Face of Jazz, is a series of profiles of  women, jazz instrumentalists.  The featured musician in this edition is saxophonist, clarinetist and flautist Loretta Palmeiro. Loretta has been a member of and soloist in a wide range of ensembles which have made an important impact on Australian music, including the Sirens, the Divergence Jazz Orchestra, and the quintet which is one of her main projects personally, Spyglass Gypsies. And the diversity in the music these ensembles play shows how broad Loretta's musical interests are. From her first experiences in playing the violin, Loretta moved on quickly to the piano and was attracted to the saxophone, literally, by the sounds she heard drifting across her school playground. For this profile, Loretta has provided original music not available on CD: a version of Softly as in a Morning Sunrise, in a duet with guitarist Richard Ashby; a live recording from the Divergence Big Band; and improvised duets recorded with pianist Mark Isaacs when they called their collaboration Some of Two Parts. This profile in Changing the Face of Jazz  was produced by Mick Paddon and originally went to air on Eastside Radio as part of Jazz Made in Australia on February 13th, 2017.

Jonathan Humphries is in discussion with Mariana Palmeiro, Wellness and Spa expert, co-founder and head of Wellness Consultant, co-founder and chief business development officer at Field LLC, on the topic of "Mental health, wellbeing, and creativity". Her life has been devoted to wellbeing and looking after one-self in the art of prevention. She is an educator, consultant, thought leader, innovator, and entrepreneur. Our mental health is under extreme pressure lately. During these trying times, we need to focus on all aspects of building our inner immunity and our personal resilience. The World Health Organization - WHO - defined, in 1948, Health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. 72 years on, has that been achieved? The physical health has been very developed since that statement but a lot of that has been focused on the disease . Now, we started talking about a more wholistic approach to mental and emotional health and how we need to prepare our lives to be as healthy as possible. Technology, as well, can now assist us and the professionals and practitioners in this field to better care for ourselves and our wellbeing. Biohacking is being introduced more and more in the field to help enhance the way our body is expressing itself. The hospitality industry, being years ahead in the level of experiences that companies are putting together with their technology, can serve as the best setting for these new biohacking technologies to flourish and develop and be in contact with people. Mariana explains her role in activating her network connections and advocating for this innovation to take place and reach a wide audience and community. www. Gradualmente, o Streaming substitui a Televisão Linear, o Podcast Online a Rádio Tradicional, e as Plataformas Online e Redes sociais o Jornal de papel.

Gradualmente, o Streaming substitui a Televisão Linear, o Podcast Online a Rádio Tradicional, e as Plataformas Online e Redes sociais o Jornal de papel. Utopia? Distopia? Ou…?

12-14-2019 Passed Ball Show. John opens up this version of the program by talking about how the New York Mets are in a business of saving money. They continue to put up the front that they have to reduce payroll if they are to make the necessary additions they need to make to compete with the best teams of the National League. Yet, they did not pay Yoenis Cespedes almost half of his contractual obligations for 2019. The Mets have used the Cespedes contact as an excuse of why they cannot afford other upgrades, yet they were not paying him in the first place. In spite of saving $20 million in having to pay Cespedes this coming season, they STILL claim they need to move a $10 million or so contact (Jed Lowrie or Jeurys Familia) if they are to have the financial ability to address the worst bullpen in Major League Baseball. The Mets answer to improving the worst bullpen in baseball is to send out the same exact relievers. What is the definition of insanity? John then talks about the Baseball Hall of Fame and how its voting process and choices of exclusion are different from Pro Football and Pro Basketball. Did OJ Simpson and Pete Rose dominate a sport enough to warrant inclusion in its respective Hall of Fame? Yes. Did anything they did (or did not do) after their playing career was over have anything to do with what they did when they played? No. Why is Pete Rose not in Baseball's Hall of Fame for what he did as a player? Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens (and anybody else suspected of using performance enhancing drugs) would get a more fair trial if they were being accused of a heinous crime. John gives a different take, though, when it comes to the career of Will Clark. While John does not back down from his support of the "steroids era" players getting enshrined in its Hall of Fame, he does feel for a player like Will Clark. Clark was as good as Rafael Palmeiro, but chose to not use PED's. Will Clark's accomplishments are not given the credit they deserve because of Palmeiro, because of Mark McGwire- two players that would be considered Clark contemporaries. Finally, in the Nobody's Listening segment of the show, John talks about the "R" word, and even though it should not be used, the context and intention should be considered before the PC police eats them alive. A statement of such should not be grounds for termination and definitely should not lead to somebody being given future employment

On episode 12 of the Top Rank Podcast, co-hosts Isabel Flower and Marcel Rosa-Salas speak with Cecilia Palmeiro and Verónica Gago, founding members of Argentinian feminist movement and collective Ni Una Menos. Ni Una Menos (which translates to Not One Less) combats femicide—the intentional killing of women because they are female—as well as all gender based-violence. They are committed to changing a culture that castes women as objects to control, to consume, and to discard. To do so, Ni Una Menos examines the multiple forms of violence (economic, political, financial, state, social) that limit the autonomy of women and therefore generate the conditions that allow for physical violence, shedding light on the relationship between the most dramatic manifestations of violence against women and their structural roots. The movement’s affiliates now span numerous Latin American countries and even continents, and their work includes organizing marches, protests, strikes, and discussions to putting forward formal government demands. Cecilia and Verónica spoke with us about how to define machista violence, the relationship between neoliberalism, capitalism, and gender-based abuse, and making community activism intersectional, collaborative, and transnational.

The transmission of a religion closely connected to a particular culture into a very different religious and cultural environment is a difficult act of translation in which a balance must be struck between remaining true to doctrine while understanding and accommodating cultural difference. Members of the Society of Jesus were engaged in a series of such projects in Asia in the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. This already difficult task was made more complex by the need to maintain unity and discipline among individual Jesuits when travel was dangerous and time consuming and letters might take years to reach their destinations. In his masterful book, The Visitor: Andre Palmeiro and the Jesuits in Asia (Harvard University Press, 2014), Liam Brockey explores these issues through a study of the life of Andre Palmeiro, who traveled throughout Asia settling disputes over complex questions of belief, practice, and ritual. This informative work is not only a biography, as Brockey skillfully uses the career of Palmeiro to complicate the story of the Jesuits in Asia, for instance, showing that national origin was not the main factor determining how much or how little individual Jesuits approved of an “accomodationist” approach. This book is highly recommended, and scholars, graduate students, and those interested in issues of both mission history and the problem of translation will find it well worth reading. For Miguel Palmeiro, giving back is at the core of who he is and what his law firm stands for. He found his passion for the law while attending school as a pre-med student. Disillusioned with the field of medicine and wanted to find a way to truly give back, he decided to follow in his older brother’s footsteps and take a look at law school. After doing incredibly well on the LSATs, Miguel felt he had found his calling. He shares with Aimee J. how he chased his dreams, became a success, and still maintains focus on giving back to the people who made it all possible. TWEET: The importance of giving back and pushing forward, on this episode of #ChasingDreams Finding your purpose, even when it takes you away from your planned path. Miguel shares the importance of always striving to find happiness. His plan when he started school was to be a doctor. But, when he realized it wasn’t making him happy, Miguel knew something had to change. His passion for finding his purpose drove him to keep pushing forward to make his dreams a reality. Miguel shares how important it was to have support as he applied for law school and the encouragement he felt as it came to fruition. While attending law school, Miguel found his true calling of litigation while on the National Mock Trial Team. Once he found his passion, Miguel set his sights on being a litigator who always maintained focus on giving back. How Miguel manages to give back through his law firm. Straight out of law school, Miguel worked with his brother. Eventually, he knew he would have to find a way to be a litigator so he could follow his true purpose.
