SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 245, “Building up Relational Capital,” Kim discusses the relational capital Abiathar the priest had built up and how this saved his life. We need to be intentional regarding building up relational capital, whether it is in our business or our personal lives. In today's story, we see how Abiathar's previous investments in King David provided him an extra measure of grace from David's son Solomon. Our focal passage for this episode is 1 Kings 2:26-27 with verse 26 as the focal verses: 26 Then the king said to Abiathar the priest, “Go back to your home in Anathoth. You deserve to die, but I will not kill you now, because you carried the Ark of the Sovereign Lord for David my father and you shared all his hardships.” WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE: In which relationship do you need to build more relational capital? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 11 Then David summoned the priests, Zadok and Abiathar, and these Levite leaders: Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab. 12 He said to them, “You are the leaders of the Levite families. You must purify yourselves and all your fellow Levites, so you can bring the Ark of the Lord, the God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it. 13 Because you Levites did not carry the Ark the first time, the anger of the Lord our God burst out against us. We failed to ask God how to move it properly.” 14 So the priests and the Levites purified themselves in order to bring the Ark of the Lord, the God of Israel, to Jerusalem. 15 Then the Levites carried the Ark of God on their shoulders with its carrying poles, just as the Lord had instructed Moses. (1 Chronicles 15:11-15) 24 Zadok and all the Levites also came along, carrying the Ark of the Covenant of God. They set down the Ark of God, and Abiathar offered sacrifices until everyone had passed out of the city. (2 Samuel 15:24) 29 So Zadok and Abiathar took the Ark of God back to the city and stayed there. In a world that offers only toxic or shallow definitions of manhood, we must examine the Scriptures to discover what it truly means to be a man. As men who are pursuing Christ, we recognize our culture sends conflicting messages about manhood and masculinity. This has led to a lot of confusion among men. In this episode, Chris Rivers and John Thomas discuss core principles from the teaching, Building Relational Capital. This teaching can be found in the Men’s Roundtable Study entitled “Leadership Values.” Find this study by visiting: gracechurchsc.org/mrt Also discussed on the podcast is a new study launching at Grace Church in April 2021 called Authentic Manhood. Find a campus near you and register for Authentic Manhood by visiting: gracechurchsc.org/mrt If you know a man that would benefit from hearing this episode, share it with him. Having intentional conversations around these principles is a great way to disciple and help others move towards Christ and the Church. Have questions or want us to discuss a topic?
