Today’s Guest Wellness (Breathwork) Practitioner Tameeka Ford will share with you her insights self-care. As a former leader for a nonprofit organization, Tameeka dealt with the pressures of running an organization for impoverished communities for youth and families. The demands of her work impacted her health greatly that she decided to take a leap of faith and leave her job. The decision to leave her six-figure paying job after 17 years was life-changing for her, and she found a way to still serve her community. Now her focus is on helping older women of color to practice the importance of self-care through breathwork meditation and relaxation, along with reiki, yoga, color light therapy, and qigong. Tameeka holds a vision to help other women to heal and to connect to themselves by putting themselves first by implementing self-care practices for better health. Tameeka understands the importance of mental health and knows that mental health in the black community can be voiceless and shameful. She wants to change that by bringing more awareness to the community she serves. Although COVID 19 has affected her business where she can not have live classes, she was able to make a shift and found a way to still serve by creating virtual sessions where she can still work with her clients and provide her services to those who need it. Welcome to the season 7 premiere of Debt Free in 30. It's only September but it's been an eventful year already, eh? Insolvency filings were high at the start of 2020 but fell to record lows by the month of May. Unemployment is high, but so is the savings rate. How is that possible? Today we discuss these stats, and look ahead to the Fall. Collection agencies are starting to make more calls, so will insolvencies go back up? The federal government has also announced that the CERB will soon end and transition to EI. Will this be enough for individuals still out of work? That and more on the first show of Season 7; enjoy! In today’s episode, Karoline Stevens joins me again for a deep dive into MONEY and ABUNDANCE! As an empowerment coach with years of incredible experience under belt, Karoline has been a crucial figure in the personal journeys of many of her clients, and has likewise been pivotal in my own. During our conversation, Karoline discusses how our mindset shapes our experience and relationship with the world, what it means to find focus in your vision, how to truly embrace your own journey, and much more. She presents an enlightening perspective on the perceptual pitfalls we tend to fall into and how to shift it so you can live a life that’s fulfilling and meaningful right away. “What you’ve created is because of your patterns of thinking. Change those, and you can create something different.” - Karoline Stevens Top Takeaways: It’s easy to be identified with our conditions. We look at our money, our health, our body image, etc. and we allow our mindset to be dictated by our circumstances or story. It requires help to get out of that mindset. Consider a mentor or coach to support you in this respect. It’s an investment that is meant to help you see your blind spots. You want to constantly be focused on your vision and what you love in your life. Our fullest potential is often hindered by something within us that makes it difficult to accomplish what we need to be accomplishing. It’s much like a pebble in a shoe. Once that pebble is identified and removed, you’re finally able to walk comfortably again. Ask yourself, “What is my vision? What is my purpose?” Ultimately, your highest purpose is yourself. Don’t fall into the trap of destination addiction. You want to be fully committed to your vision without living in the future. Don’t postpone your happiness for when you achieve your next arbitrary goal. Happiness should not be conditional. Find happiness now in your current situation. Remember, it’s not the end goal that matters. It’s the journey that matters. Everything that you do is part of your vision. Nothing is separate. Do everything with gratitude and with perspective on how it contributes to helping you develop into the person you’re working to become. Ask yourself, “Who do I have to be in order to become the person that I want to be?” Act like the kind of person who already has that. When you live into it, you very quickly become it. We are allowed to live a life we love. Allow your imagination to go wild in thinking what you love in all areas of your life. Then affirm it in your life every day. Beliefs run our lives. Your experience is a mirror of your beliefs. What you’ve created is because of your patterns of thinking. All you need to do is change those and you can create something different. Today, we are joined by a very special guest, Leta Greene. She was raised in what she calls two extremes: truck stops and Provo, Utah. Not exactly spots that belched up beauty tips. So, how did a shy tomboy with her share of scars become a confident beauty expert? Here’s a clue: it didn’t involve a traditional makeover or even much makeup! She discovered the secret to lasting beauty—and it worked despite all the scars and truck stops. Leta gives us a look into his background, and why she is passionate about educating kids about topics that they face in today’s world. She creates an immediate rapport to help them build their confidence and understanding of healthy relationships. Leta speaks into why we don’t want to terrify young minds with all the realities and dangers of our world. Just as when we explained to our children to look both ways before crossing the street we did teach them by showing them pictures of children that had been hit. We taught them the principle and pointed out the dangers they could understand at an age-appropriate level. As my conversation progresses with Leta, she uncovers howWe can be destroyed or remade if you recognize there's something more to who you are. Stories about her clients started telling life story and how different points in her life. With his focus in trauma, Leta is able to shed light that it was more than about timing to share her story but to share very poignantly that events no matter how horrid can be overcome and be sources of strength to enhance your life.Leta offers rich insight that can pertain to anything, not just business, anything, anything sexual abuse, abuse, and the mental limitations. “If you start looking at a lot of studies that talk about how that gives people hope from a scientific concept, the very concept of hope is a God concept. ”Relevant Links:https://letagreene.com/https://www.facebook.com/LetaHotness/https://www.instagram.com/leta_greene/?hl=enhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/hotness/https://www.youtube.com/user/glamourconnection/videos
Lots of algorithmic tools are now used to support decision-making in the criminal justice system. Many of them are criticised for being biased. What should be done about this? In this episode, I talk to Chelsea Barabas about this very question. Chelsea is a PhD candidate at MIT, where she examines the spread of algorithmic decision making tools in the US criminal legal system. She works with interdisciplinary researchers, government officials and community organizers to unpack and transform mainstream narratives around criminal justice reform and data-driven decision making. In today’s episode, my incredible friend, bestie and light worker, Gabby Ortega. A trauma specialist with a background in neuropsychology, Gabby now coaches female entrepreneurs in healing and wellness. With so much practical knowledge and education, I wanted to bring her insight to light and reveal the true secrets of her and her clients’ success. In our interview, Gabby discusses her experience growing up with trauma in all areas of her life, her battle with PTSD and chronic anxiety, and how she decided to take total control of her own healing by becoming a trained therapist. In light of the frightening inefficiencies and injustices of our current mental health care system, it is her mission to change the world by helping to foster more and more businesses that promote the client’s healing first, instead of simply maximizing their own profits. “When there is self compassion, there is no room for shame.” - Gabby Ortega Top Takeaways: Once you crack open into exactly who you are and find your true alignment, the world opens up to you. Everyone hits their own rock bottom. Once you do, realize that you now have a choice - You can either end it all or you can finally confront the issue at hand and figure it out. Organize your experience and take charge once and for all. The world around you will seem as if everyone is successful and happy and you’re the only person who isn’t. This isn’t true! Everyone has their own issues they’re battling as well. No matter what you’re feeling, you’ve never been alone in feeling them. When you place the focus on healing as opposed to the symptom, such as “weight loss” or “muscle building,” then you’re truly free. How you cope with your anxiety and trauma has been a mechanism for survival. You’re here, you’re alive, and that was the purpose from the start. Release the guilt. Your “root” is not who you are. It’s what you’ve done to cope and keep yourself alive. Your body is always moving towards self healing, not destruction. It’s us who confuses what’s actually helpful and what isn’t. “Trauma” is anything that you consider to be traumatic. It’s always from your own perspective. What might be traumatic to one person may not mean much of anything to another. So don’t judge or degrade your own trauma. No matter what your trauma is, don’t try to find a quick fix. Recognize you’re strong enough and face exactly what it is head on. Rip it open, stitch it up, and finally move on. Once you do, the only voice that’s left is the voice of your highest self. Your inner critic doesn’t belong to you. It’s an automatic thought that’s responding to a stimulus, relating back to a past bad experience that’s meant to ultimately save you. This exists within the reptilian brain and it’s completely out of your control. That inner critic is a monster. Identify it! Physically draw whatever that voice is. Give it a name. Then use that to remind yourself that those voices don’t belong to you, but rather it belongs to that. So often we dwell on and live in the negative aspects that trauma creates. However, as strong and amazing survivors, it’s critical that our mindset shifts to focus on the positive effects of trauma. Lorrie Richins shares her story to bring awareness to trauma and share her work as a personal and family empowerment coach. Lorrie starts the show off by giving listeners look into her background and the work that she does in her business, Whole Family Mentoring. She recounts how her repressed trauma was brought forth later in her life; what caused the trauma to resurface and how she coped with this realization. After hitting her breaking point and planning to take her own life, Lorrie found her strength and kept fighting, eventually becoming resilient to the pain that once crushed her. Lorrie explains how seeing a therapist helped her step into resiliency and out of the pain she felt. Lorrie so perfectly describes what pain feels like and the reaction it forces it us to have of escape and fleeing from those feelings of pain. She shares stories of how she tried to run from what had the potential to cause her pain even before it did.Lorrie explains how her experience led her to her passion for helping people overcome trauma. Now, as a body language advisor, emotion code practitioner, and energy worker, as well as having practiced skill with essential oils, Lorrie offers everything to her clients that she found lacking in her own recovery from trauma. In her practice, Lorrie focuses on creating a trusting and safe environment for her clients and works to treat the body in all aspects. Lorrie shares how trauma manifests in different ways and can show itself in health issues and other aspects of our bodies and wellbeing. She treats the whole person and encourages people to be attuned to their bodies, find humility, and listen for shifts in energy. Lorrie offers insight into her work through the practices she implements in her treatment and speaks into what each of these factors provides in healing from trauma. “There’s a price we pay for the wisdom gained, and often, that price is pain.”Relevant Links:wholefamilymentoring@gmail.comWhole Family MentoringSpeak LOUDWrite a ReviewSHARE the Movement

Today I welcome the lovely, Renee M. Davis to the show to discuss her journey on modeling and I’d say being one of the true pioneers for a new market in modeling for women over 40. Her philanthropy work doesn’t go unnoticed as she continues to work towards the improvement of providing resources for the uninsured. Renee shares the strength of her mother who was not once, not twice, but a three time cancer survivor. Renee has adapted her mothers’ strength and determination to live and to live being in service to others. Not only did Renee discover strength during adversity, but she received blessings during a period of uncertainty when she had to provide for her children at the time. Even with the times we are facing right now Renee continues to stay strong and optimistic and works towards improving her wellness for her-self as well as others. She has partnered with a company that provides wellness products which includes anti-aging that is all natural and plant based. Renee will continue to mentor and inspire other women on the importance of getting your regular mammograms for early detection and prevention of breast cancer as well as provide alternative natural remedies for ant-aging and wellness. Relevant Links: www.reneedavis.com www.ReneeMoheadDavis.neora.com Health Coach 4 Women Podcast Work with Me Guest Bio Renee M. Davis began her modeling career quite by accident when she was 40 years old. She was taking her daughter to her fitting for the "Back to School" fashion show that she was to model in later that week. B.J. Arnett (Rucker at that time) was the show producer, and when she saw her, she asked if she could model. Without thinking too long, she said "Yes!" Renne was booked for the show without any previous experience. She thought she wasn't very good on the runway then but there was a very positive reaction from the audience, having never seen a "mature" model on the runway before, someone who was a more realistic representation of someone in their age group. Since that time, she worked as a runway, and commercial print model in various product ads and publications including Essence magazine, you will see that tear sheet on this site. She was in several TV commercials such as Pantene Gold Series, American Cancer Society, Sparkle Paper Towels and others, and you might still see her in the light bulb aisle at Lowe's. Renee is pleased to be among those who now represent the true diversity of American women.
Hello Beautiful, Today your host, Marsha Roopchand- Walker will be discussing How to adapt and reinvent yourself during COVID! Marsha goes into detail on how you can handle your stress and anxiety by tuning out the outside world. She is aware that the evets of COVID has impacted the lives of many people and found it necessary to discuss and share her ideals with you today. By looking inward through self-reflection one has the ability to reinvent themselves and discover new possibilities as well as to adapt to uncontrollable events. “With every struggle there is ease!” This is Marsha’s motto and her outlook on life. Everyone and everything experiences hardship at some and time, but it is by finding strength through times of adversity that one can truly develop and evolve. Marsha knows this from her own struggles and trauma during 911. By taking a moment to be present and not worrying about the past nor the future is how you can learn to adapt to the “new normal.” Marsha realizes the mental illness is a serious issue and can be life threatening. She knows that everyone handles stress differently and that there are different levels of stress. So she is also providing you not only support but resources to help you on your wellness journey. In this episode of Balance with Sam Podcast, I have a conversation with Pam Sherman, a 53 year old health and wellness guru from Sacramento, CA. Born to be a trainer, Pam has focused her career on motivating women to move their bodies, push past their self-doubt, and ultimately find success in their wellness journey. Pam discusses her life’s journey beginning at age 11 when she discovered her passion for exercise and coaching. She illuminates the massive benefits of enduring challenges and how they can shape your destiny in powerful ways. Pam’s life is an important story that teaches us that we’re never too late in our own journey to become the type of person we’ve always wanted to be. “If we get the limits we put on ourselves out of the way, we are unstoppable.” - Pam Sherman Top Takeaways: We all put limitations on ourselves, constantly saying, “I can’t…” You are capable of far more than you give yourself credit for, physically and mentally. If you get those limits out of the way, you are unstoppable. “I believe in you” is some of the most powerful words you can offer someone who is doubting themselves. It’s so important to make it a habit to recognize the good things about yourself at times when you’re tempted to only focus on the bad. Fight against your brain’s bias towards negativity and recognize the value you actually have in the world. It requires more effort to be positive, but that effort will reward you in spades. The challenges you face in life are there to teach you and guide you toward better living. It’s not a failure, it’s an opportunity to learn to be a better version of yourself. The same rules apply to everyone. The challenges you face in your health and fitness journey are the same challenges your mentor or coach face as well. You are not at all alone in your journey. Sometimes the experiences that are the most jarring prove to be the best thing that could have ever happened to you. They give you insight into who you truly are and what your real calling is for yourself and others. You are never too late to take care of yourself. You are never too old to achieve the goals you’ve always wanted to achieve. Don’t wait another day to start. In times when you’re dealing with difficult emotions, “practice the pause.” Think with clarity exactly who you want to be for yourself and how you want to show up in the world. This will help you fight against any urge to start eating or falling into another unhealthy vice to cope with how you’re feeling. Remember - “You’re not a dog. You don’t deserve a treat.” You deserve to take care of yourself, and not with food. Falling down is part of living a human life. Every time you do, use it as a lesson for the next time you’re in the same situation. Be curious over your own judgement of yourself. Always remain mindful of what you say to yourself. Scott is currently completing his PhD in the ethics of artificial intelligence at the Technical University of Delft. He has a B.Sc. in Computer Science from California State University, Chico and an M.Sc. in Ethics of Technology from the University of Twente. He is a founding member of the Foundation for Responsible Robotics and a member of the 4TU Centre for Ethics and Technology. Happy to be back after a three week hiatus. I got the opportunity to chat with Amy and Nancy Harrington a couple months ago when quarantine first began and I think now is the perfect time to share their story. These two sisters ditched successful careers in Hollywood in order to work together. They are the minds behind the Passionistas Project Pack, a subscription box filled with products created by female artisans and women-owned businesses to inspire you to follow your passions. They are also the minds behind the Passionistas Project Podcast, which shares positive stories of strong, empowered and passionate women. I figure in today’s current climate, we could all use some stories of empowerment. We talk all things: Positive mindset, following your passion and supporting your fellow woman.
