Perhaps one of the most important and foundational lectures we've ever done, this talk features a broad overview of Tantrik non-duality in the beginning and then moves on to make a case for a Vedic lifestyle and basic devotion as important foundations for more dramatic, esoteric, non-dual and transgressive practices of Goddess-oriented tantra. We also study the Vedic (and pre-Vedic) roots of Tantra and look at a few of the early schools of our tradition such as the Mīmāmsa, Pāśupata, Lakulīśa, Nyāya & Vaiśeshika to derive from them some grounding ideas for practicing Tantra safely! This lecture was given just after Shiva Ratri and Sri Ramakrishna's birthday and so we attempt to map the historical progression of ideas in Shaivism unto the life of Sri Ramakrishna where we see all these ideas expressed! In this episode Stories from the River, host Charlie Malouf welcomes back April Todd, Home Furnishings Expert & Sales Manager, for the second part of their conversation. April shares heartfelt reflections on her career and the deep sense of gratitude and fulfillment she derives from working for the River, inviting others to experience what she describes as home. Her positive influence on her community and colleagues is evident as they laud her for her kindness, generosity, and leadership. She talks about the various company events she has attended, such as soirees, summits, and purpose-driven gatherings that have filled her cup and provided her with a sense of feeling appreciated as well as renewed her spirit and mindset with inspiration and motivation. April recounts being particularly touched by an impactful speech from Inky Johnson at Broad River's Leadership Summit in August 2018 when the Company's purpose statement ("Furnishing Life's Best Memories.") was unveiled. She also discusses the positive impact of the Company's annual themes, which aid in centering and driving the team's focus. She highlights Broad River's commitment to fostering real human connections, standing out as a top workplace in the furniture industry due to its culture and treatment of its Memory Makers. April candidly discusses her professional journey, including how she sets sales goals that spur her to push her performance to new heights, using stories of working diligently through holiday seasons at the end of the year as examples. Her narrative also includes the personal sacrifices she's made, and she openly discusses how she's dealt with grief that she's had over the years (and how she's been able to perform at work amidst the personal struggles at home), including the fortitude she's shown during family struggles such as her husband's cancer diagnosis, and her father's passing following a terminal diagnosis. April's generous spirit and heart of gold extend beyond work as she recounts how she's used her annual jackpot bonuses to support her community, from helping dozens of families with Christmas gifts during the holidays to giving away a car and even to aiding a homeless man. In offering advice she would offer to new hires on the sales floor, she stresses the importance of a positive mindset, hard work, and the pursuit of continuous improvement. Even though April has been a perennial Million Dollar Memory Maker and has achieved the top levels of sales success at the Company, she has not allowed herself to become complacent towards her craft. She has personified personal excellence and a drive to always learn and seek opportunities to improve. Her professional mindset and serious approach to craft are exemplary examples to others on the sales floor. At Broad River Retail, there's a focus on people, innovation, and pushing boundaries, with initiatives to recognize and engage employees. Despite the fast-paced growth and the corporate backdrop, April enjoys the warm culture and the surprising close-knit feel within the Company that April believes is the same as it was when she began even though the Company has grown so much over the years.. April's story is a profound blend of personal resilience, Company pride, continual self-reflection, and the faithful belief in overcoming adversity and achieving greatness. The human spiritual predicament, as understood from a biblical perspective, is the state of being separated from God due to sin. The Bible teaches that God created humans to have a personal relationship with Him, but sin entered the world through the disobedience of Adam and Eve, causing a rift between God and humanity (Genesis 3). As a result, all humans are born with a sinful nature, and our thoughts, words, and actions are often motivated by self-interest and rebellion against God (Psalm 51:5, Romans 3:23). This separation from God has dire consequences, including physical death and eternal separation from Him (Romans 6:23, Revelation 20:14-15). However, the Bible also teaches that God desires to restore the relationship between Himself and humanity. He sent His son, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalty for our sins by dying on the cross (John 3:16, Romans 5:8), and through faith in Him, we can be reconciled to God (2 Corinthians 5:18-21. The human spiritual predicament, therefore, is one of being lost, in need of salvation, and unable to save ourselves. We require a divine solution to our sin problem, and this solution comes through faith in Jesus Christ. The biblical message is one of hope, forgiveness, and reconciliation, but it begins with recognizing our spiritual predicament and our need for a Savior. Philip Freeman is a Professor of Humanities at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. With a Ph.D. from Harvard University in Classical Philology and Celtic Languages & Literatures, he has authored over a dozen New York Times reviewed books on ancient & medieval studies. For this episode we stick to the Celtic world, starting at ancient Gaul [Celtic western Europe 2,000+ years-ago]: farming, warriors, head trophies, druids, sacred oak groves, human sacrifice, belief in reincarnation & what little is known about the old gods. From there we travel to Ireland & Wales, where Celtic language & mythology survived the passage of conquests & time. Freeman describes a lewd horse sacrifice coronation ritual, curse tablets found in a lake, & the medieval gods known as the Tuatha Dé Danann & their mysterious Otherworld. Finally we come to the present with Freeman's visit to the spring of St. Brigid, followed by what connects his love of mythology with his Catholic faith. To end this epic episode, Freeman recounts the first Halloween [aka Samhain] story, The Adventure of Nera. Raise your hand if you look at the world today and think to yourself, "surely this is the worst time in history." You are certainly not alone and the reality is- there are in fact some very difficult things happening in our culture and around the world. This worldview has caused many of us to lose hope, and see the world through a lens far from optimistic. We invited on our friend Zach Windahl, the author of See the Good to talk through what actually is happening in the world around us and help us to change the narrative. Through this conversation you will hear: - Why it feels like the world is worse now more than any other time fun history - We're born with a negativity bias and to always be on edge: This profound phenomenon explained - Steps for the person who is not naturally an optimist: How we can all see the good without minimizing difficult things- What it means to evaluate who is at our table, and extend invitations to those outside of 'cultural norms' - What some of the best ways are to help those around us to see the good-How to navigate reoccurring negative thoughts about a particular person or place Whether you are a person of faith, consider yourself a pessimist or optimist...This conversation is one that applies to humanity as a whole! S01E32 Taiping Rebellion: Zeng Guofan Perfects His Strategy In this episode, we see Zeng Guofan start to get a grip on the task of fighting the Taiping Rebellion. He has to balance between the political necessities of showing his troops that fighting far from home is a way to protect home and achieving strategic results for the emperor. Zeng Guofan additionally is promoted to regular positions in the Qing hierarchy that give him control over competing regular army units and local militias and sources of supplies for his troops. Old Chinese saying, “When the general is outside the capital, the ruler's orders won't be followed.” Zeng Guofan was following the emperor's big picture orders, but he tactfully declined to fulfill orders that took him off his main goal: capturing Nanjing. Episode 43 - How to Pray (Like a Man!)There's something very intimate and vulnerable about prayer. And let's face it, that can be intimidating for guys. It's almost as if a prayer life is better suited for women, to whom communication and emotionality often come easier. But prayer is much too important to leave off, even if it proves difficult and awkward. Like anything else, given the right approach, prayer can find its own character and richness in the life of a man. Chad pulls a switcheroo as he dresses to the nines for full effect in this sermon-slash-episode, while Ben's left confusedly pretending to concelebrate in a collar. The two hit their knees and offer up some insight on the why's and how's of prayer. What are some good, manly reasons why we need a healthy prayer life? What are some common obstacles to prayer, and what are some practical tips for overcoming them? At the end, Chad and Ben offer a prayer aloud to model how simple and straightforward praying can be. Originally aired in January of 2019, “Reckless Love, Reckless Worship” was an episode in which the guys drew a line in the sand when it comes to examining the songs we sing and who is writing them. When this episode was originally released we got to see first hand the truth in this quote: “Nothing angers the self-righteous like being told their worship is not acceptable to God.” -Anthony Mathenia Original Show Notes: In this episode Chris and Drew discuss the song ‘Reckless Love' as well as contemporary worship music as a whole. They will look at the theological problems within the song ‘Reckless Love' and the ministries that put out the most popular songs used in churches today. They will also discuss what you can do when deciding if a song is biblical or not. I dropped off my son at the university this week. This can be a very difficult experience for the parents. It made me think of my own college experience. I was happy to be out on my own, however, I was just starting to get to know myself and as I think back it would have been a different experience if I had understood myself and my introversion better. Understanding my personality now allows me to make changes in how I do things, and how I approach situations. There are great gifts that come from introversion. I wish I had understood these things when I was in college, but I am happy I do now. Christy continues this summer's series Stories from Camp by talking about her total lack of culture or pop culture references that first summer at camp. She had a lot to learn but was able to explore and experiment in a safe place thanks to the great people at camp. From learning to understand slang, listening to Christian Rock, and watching her first PG-13 movie, Christy had a lot of new experiences. As that first summer ended with Christy bought some capris and got a cartilage piercing to remind her of her new-found freedom. Books Referenced: "Changes that Heal" by Dr. Henry Cloud

This week on the Gospel Lifeline Podcast Robert, Matt, and Neal discuss the issue of Anxiety and where the Bible says much of it stems from. Gospel Lifeline Episode Notes Anxious Hearts Fear False gods Books Referenced: 1.) Courage: Fighting Fear with Fear by Wayne Mack 2.) Running Scared: Fear, Worry, and the God of Rest by Ed Welch 3.) 31-Day Devotionals for Life: Anxiety- Knowing God's Peace by Paul Tautges 4 Main Issues Causing Anxiety: 1.) Guilty Conscience a. The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion. ~Proverbs 28:1~ *** b. Genesis Chapter 3- Adam hides from God out of guilt over his and Eve's sin. c. Misguided Guilt- Wrongly assigned guilt by ourselves or other people; guilt that is not assigned to us by God or His Word. 2.) Wrong Values 3.) Unbelief/Lack of Trust a. The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe. ~Proverbs 29:5~ b. And do not fear those who will kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. ~Matthew 10:28~ c. (20) And Samuel said to the people, “Do not be afraid; you have done all this evil. Yet do not turn aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart. (21) And do not turn aside after empty things that cannot profit or deliver, for they are empty.(22) For the Lord will not forsake his people, for his great name's sake, because it has pleased the Lord to make you a people for himself. (23) Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you, and I will instruct you in the good and the right way. ~1 Samuel 12:20-23~ 4.) Idols Conclusion and Challenge. 1.) What are you afraid of losing and not getting? Knowing this will help reveal to you what you love and fear most. 2.) You may not feel like you suffer from anxiety, but if you are driven or seek to be in control, these too are symptoms of anxiety. 3.) No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. ~1 Corinthians 10:13~ *** Scripture quotations are from the ESV® Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version®), copyright © 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers. What did people watch before movies? In our modern lives, I think it’s deceptively easy to get into a mindset of imagining our ancestors just patiently waiting for someone to invent cinema so they’d have something to entertain themselves. But, in reality we know that humans have been seeking out ways to entertain themselves since the first cave dweller figured out how to make his friends and family laugh at shadows on the cave wall. When cinema arrived in 1895, it was just the latest in a long line of entertainment options we’ve created to keep ourselves amused on this little planet of ours. The story of film comedy is about invention and evolution. Cinema itself is an amalgamation of new technologies and older repurposed inventions. It is both technology and art working in partnership.Comedy is the same way in that there are many branches on comedy’s family tree before we get to the particular descendant we call film comedy. So, in the spirit of providing context to the history of film comedy, every so often we may venture off the main timeline to go back and look at some of these technologies and art forms that paved the way for the movies that make us laugh today. And that’s why this episode finds us dropping into the middle of the 17th century, about two-and-a-half centuries before the Lumière brothers first recorded their comedy film L’Arroseur arrosé.Some links of interest from this episode:Guest Links:Jeremy Brooker: magic lantern performance and research websiteIan Christie: website - TwitterFilms Referenced in This Episode: (Links can be found on the Movie Listings page)Chaplin (dir. After experiencing the brokenness that can be found even in traditional Christianity, Christy wondered what connected the experiences she'd had in her religious cult with the more recent painful experiences with "normal" Christians. She never imagined that she would find the answer at Book Club thanks to a book on spiritual disciplines. Christy shares the word that made everything make sense and then passionately reminds her listeners that the Real God is nothing like we imagine. In the second part of this series on tools for healing, Christy shares about Soul Care from Dr. Larry Crab. Christy discovered the beauty of Christian psychology since joining her new church over three years ago and has found healing from things she didn't even know were broken. Even though she left the cultic church and organization over a decade ago, Christy still struggled with defensiveness over her decision. It wasn't until the summer of 2019 while visiting her old hometown that Christy found healing and peace. In the wake of the senseless injustice over the recent deaths of black people (Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd), I found my voice in time to record this, what I hope will be powerful, insightful and accountable episode of the podcast. For days and days I couldn't find my words so I just prayed. Prayed because I am tired. Prayed because the black woman in me didn't know what else to do. This is not okay. I have been asking myself "What's going on?" for days and days only to be given an unction to pray. Pray because there are no words to describe how I, a black woman, who is married to a black man desiring to have black babies can make sense of the targets on the backs of my people for no good reason. As a black woman leader, as difficult as it is, I cannot sit silently. As Martin Luther King, Jr himself exclaimed, "there comes a time when silence is betrayal." As cities burn and people fume, we must do better. And I am doing my part to help us to do just that. So, I'm speaking up because I can. I should. I must. And even though this is uncomfortable everything thing I said had to be said. In this episode, I'm making a call to action with 12 Keys for every person who doesn't condone the injustice pillaging through black community after black community. It is my prayer that as you listen, you are empowered, your are equipped, you are hopeful for being the change you want to see in the world and most importantly you are prepared to do something about that question on everyone's lips: What's going on?. You are in for a treat In this episode of the Wholeness Podcast! Melissa gives you the full rundown on sugar, things you may know and many you will be shocked to learn, such as where it’s hidden, what you are actually eating when you order in or eat out, how sugar is used and stored in the body and how much we as women can actually digest in a given day only 36 grams, that’s a medium size apple (clearly not very much and the rest is stored as fat). Melissa really wanted to do this episode to educate her listeners on the truth about sugar and how even too much “healthy” sugar can become unhealthy and wreak havoc on the body. She begins by discussing the importance of knowing what you put into your body. Successful weight loss doesn’t come from a crazy cleanse or fad diet. It’s the result of being in tune with what you eat, while allowing your body to do what it’s created to do, which is heal, eliminate and detoxify on it’s own. Our body is set-up to naturally detoxify itself and eliminate waste. If you consume food in its natural state and through making your own meals, you can identify what doesn’t feel good and make a change, versus consuming foods in restaurants or in bags and boxes filled with chemicals. An overconsumption of sugar can lead to many different problems, including adult acne, autoimmune disease, bloating, brain fog and fatigue. Unfortunately, sugar is present in more foods than we think, and the FDA and many giant well-known companies such as Nabisco and Kraft intentionally add larger quantities of sugar disguised behind varying ingredient terms to increase addiction and drive sales, with Marketing terms such as “all-natural”, “whole grains” or “zero sugar” to bait the consumer. Restaurants often use sugar in ways that are not listed on their menus adding it in and on top of foods that Melissa discusses in detail in today’s episode. Sadly, many women think they’re being healthy and choosing “healthy” options for their families, when they’re not - not at a fault of them, but again marketing and food companies. An example, when it comes to weight loss, a sauce or spice added to a dish can easily be a sugar-trap, which becomes a high calorie item quickly. Melissa gives many specific examples in today’s episode. Even ‘healthy’ foods such as protein bars can be high in sugar and carbs such as Lara Bars. While each person has a different level of calorie expenditure based on their daily calorie expenditure and size, it’s easy to think that a healthy diet and exercise are enough. However, when we don’t listen to our bodies, we fall into the ‘dieter’s false mindset’ around our exercise and the actual amount of calories we’ve burned, often leaving women to overindulge and be frustrated at their lack of weight loss results. Be aware of your body, and make food choices based off of the benefits you receive nutritionally, not just your desire. Start your day with a high-protein diet as opposed to cereal, sugar-filled juices or coffee drinks, bagels or pastries, and you will begin to feel better and find success. What You’ll Learn How to listen to what your body is telling you about food. Why clean eating is essential to making a positive change and understanding what foods are hurting you or healing you. The danger that sugar presents to both your physical and mental health. How restaurants and manufacturers use FDA-approved ‘hidden’ sugars to increase addictive qualities. Why the ‘dieter’s false mindset’ leads to overconsumption, not weight loss or optimal health. What if church as we know it changes? How could those changes be amazingly positive? Christy contemplates the differences between The Church (the worldwide body of Christ) and church (the building and organization we attend). She wonders how The Great Pause of COVID19 will change things in the long run and she lays out some things that need to change. Although Christy has been accused of being anti-church, she assures her listeners that she loves the body of Christ. But she is also willing to point out the problems within our local buildings and organizations. Melissa shares with listeners simple steps for approaching anxiety, overwhelm, and chronic procrastination in a way that will lead to whole body wholeness rather than feeding into the cycle of those tendencies. The first thing to remember is that these feelings originate in your mind, which is set up to always keep you safe, and the answer is to get grounded within yourself and seek the answers from your body. It is often quite difficult to overcome the mindsets that have been programmed in us by our circumstances or by the feelings and needs of our inner child, but a good way to start is with these steps: Know that you will never have a question that your body does not know the answer to. Consider whether you are taking the time to look inward and whether you are trusting the guidance you receive there. Accept that there is nothing wrong with you. You are and can only be right, no matter what your mind tries to tell you about the different parts of yourself. There is so much pressure on women to look, act, talk, and think the “right” way, but there is nothing wrong with you when you are connected to your higher self. Get in touch with your inner child. She has set up these beliefs and narratives for some reason, so take some time with her to find out what she needs. Sit with one hand on your heart and one hand on your womb and ask her what she needs and then affirm that she is safe, that you are safe. When you have had enough time talking with your inner child, merge the parts of yourself by rubbing your arms and legs, recoding your thinking and confirming that you are safe to be and to feel. Christy describes tension theology and what it looks like to be a part of the Middle Way. Rarely is anything black and white, and yet as people we are so quick to choose sides. Christy encourages us to learn from people who are different than us and be willing to accept paradox with an open hand. Two years ago, there is no way I would have guessed I was going to host a podcast on these subjects...so how did I get here? My husband and I have been married 15 years, have twin 4 year olds, and finally feel like we are living life beyond default. I started dating Kyle about a year and a half ago. Everything was open and consensual, although none of us knew exactly what we were getting ourselves into. Since then, we've started to let go of the old paradigms of life that no longer serve us, and are now living a life definitely on the edge of social norms. Listen to the episode to learn more about the journey into the world of polyamory, and just love in general. Our friend describes the podcast as a "Love University" and we like that idea:) Books Referenced in the podcast: - More Than Two by Franklin Veaux - The Ethical Slut by Janet W. Should I make any adjustments to the training and/or settings on the treadmill? How I’ll it correlate to what I will be able to do on the road? Thankful for you both and the time and effort you are investing in this program! 2. It’s summer in Texas. I spent more of my avocado toast this week walking than running. I’m usually good with this, because it’s ridiculous outside. The only time I am not is when I wistfully think of a half marathon in 26 weeks. I’m nervous about building up enough sustained shuffling time when it’s time to jump up to maintain for that event. Maintain Questions 1. Hey Batter Batter Batter- Swing Batter! Aka the Hammer: In the Swing workout our rest is active recovery. Is the rest for the Hammer active recovery or actual rest? Thanks for all you do Coach MK and Coach Sarah! 2. When figuring out our 5k/10k paces, etc., what Easy effort pace should we base it on? Is it an average of your EE pace over the course of a run? We don’t do a lot of straight EE runs on maintain, so it’s hard to determine. 3. Can you please give some tips on what it should feel or look like form-wise when maintaining 5k pace? Do we increase our cadence or stride? My 5k pace based on EE is somewhere between 6:15 and 6:45. Problem is holding anything faster than a 7 minute mile and my form goes to shit. I become Phoebe from friends. Am I better off staying at a 7 minute mile pace? Thanks! 4. I am struggling right now-- Just when I think I have things under control, my post-tib tendonitis acts up again. I had wanted to get into the full maintain schedule for July, and was possibly looking forward to another marathon in late fall- but now I'm not sure. Sometimes I think I'm just trying too hard, or expecting too much. I'm hoping that a relaxing week in Florida with my mom will help me reset. Not sure what my question is, but I'm just wondering if maybe I even need a break from Maintain while my body figures out what's going on. 5. Sarah asked me to post a question on breath! How to breathe during hard effort is at the top of the most valuable things I’ve learned from MK. It took a long time for it to click. I had listened to the AMR podcast many months before the hard effort runs started and understood the concept but not the application. Then I asked a question one day about feeling almost like I was having a panic attack when running at 5K pace and MK said, that’s when you shorten your breath cadence. And since then everything has changed! 6. I have a Recovery R8 Roller (hurt so good). What is your opinion, thoughts, suggestions, and/or recommendations for using it? 7. I’ll be doing my very first marathon this December at CIM. As you probably know I’ve been training with you since early 2016. I’m wondering if a 10 week build up to a marathon is going to be enough build up for me since it will be my first. Thanks!

Buying Stocks is NOT a Zero-Sum Game (Investing First Principle) - Show Outline The full show notes for this episode are available at https://www.diyinvesting.org/Episode31 Mental Model: Zero-Sum Games Any gains by one participant must be offset with losses by other participants. The sum total of all value for all participants is equal to zero Why buying Stocks is NOT a Zero-Sum Game Stocks as a whole don't provide a positive expected value You don't have to “take” from others in order to receive. When companies create value this is “new value.” The economy grows, everyone becomes wealthier. Stock Picking vs Index Funds? The thought is that half of the money must underperform an index, and half of the money can outperform an index. The thought, therefore, is that buying stocks is zero-sum. Where is the fallacy? Index's have historically had a positive expected value. If an index returns 10%, even if half of the money receives 8%, and half receives 12%, both parties are successful in growing their wealth. One party doesn't lose 10% so that the index can grow 10%. That's not how this works. Instead, stock ownership is best described as a positive sum game. What is a Positive-Sum Game? A positive sum game is where the total value received of all participants is greater than zero. This means that you can be successful without worrying about the success of others. Frees you from the need for comparison, jealousy, or envy. Just because someone else made money, doesn't mean you lose money. Takeaway: You can ignore index funds and focus on your own personal goals Takeaway: You can ignore macroeconomic trends. As long as your fundamental analysis of a company is correct, the broader economic picture is irrelevant. Why is this true? - Capitalism grows the economic pie Companies are full of employees who go to work each and every day trying to find a way to make your profits grow. While this sometimes involves taking market share from other companies, the greatest gains come from innovation, improved efficiencies, new markets, and new products. This raises the standard of living for all and the overall economic pie for the economy.

If you want or need to earn 8% on your investments, then your discount rate should be 8%. If you want or need to earn 10% on your investments, then your discount rate should be 10%. When to use Nominal versus Real Discount Rate: You should use a Nominal discount rate when you are uncertain whether the company you are analyzing will be able to always grow their earnings at least at the rate of inflation. You should use a Real discount rate when you are confident that a company will be able to automatically adjust their prices at least as fast as the inflation rate. In other words, the company must have pricing power. This behavior is typically only seen in high-quality companies. Use the Same Discount Rate for ALL Companies The discount rate you use heavily impacts the result of your valuation analysis. Therefore, it is critical to base this discount rate off of your expected rate of return. You should also not adjust the discount rate you use based upon the risk of one company versus another. If you make this mistake, then you are likely investing in companies that are too risky to make reliable forward estimates of long-run earnings. If you find yourself wanting to use a higher discount rate for a single company, take that as a red flag.

Welcome to another episode of The Dose. In this episode, I’m joined again by Dr. Jeremy Ciano, an optometrist located in Carmel, IN (where my office is located) and the owner of two practices: RevolutionEyes and Little Eyes, a pediatric practice. Jeremy and I talk again to get “generally specific” about all things related to making financial decisions for optometrists both in their practice as well as in their personal lives. Our conversation definitely blurred the lines around managing your finances…part of the episode could be applicable to any professionals that invest in themselves and own a business while yet other parts of our conversation are going to be more applicable to optometrists, such as how cost of goods sold can influence the amount of cash on hand that one keeps in their practice. We also discuss: Important decisions to make and be cognizant of your first six months after graduating optometry school and what mistakes to avoid during that time, including how to avoid “1099 hell” come tax time. The difference between “good and bad” debt and how being aware of the current interest rate market can influence the source of capital for future decisions—both personally and professionally. A strategy Jeremy used to manage his debt strategically by breaking up one big loan into three separate loans, which allowed him to manage his cash flow more precisely while paying down the debts. The pivotal point in Jeremy’s practice when he started thinking of his practice finances through a “profit first” mentality The current retirement plan that Jeremy uses in his practice and how he’s chosen to share the profits of his practice with his team. The book brings about memories of 90s goth, a discussion of intent vs. impact, and how a book can be excellent, but light on plot. Episode 29: This week's episode focuses on animal communication and the deeper reason pets come into our lives. Kim interviews Animal Communicator, Brigitte Noel, who talks about various dynamics between pets and their owners. As a child who moved from country to country with her parents, Brigitte Noel always had a deep connection with animals. After an unfulfilling career in real estate, Brigitte explored her special connection with pets in a more focused way, and eventually developed her own telepathic technique of communicating with animals. Brigitte now offers individual consulting with a compassionate, knowledgeable, and sensitive approach that includes both the animal perspective and the human perspective.
