In this interview, Pete Wharton, an Ironman competitor and environmental consulting firm owner, dives into his journey of resilience, both in sports and business. He explains that mindset is central to his life, with resilience defined by adapting to challenges, setting goals, and appreciating small wins along the way. Through Ironman races and running his consulting business since 2008, Pete has learned to embrace setbacks as necessary for growth.Pete also shares insights into his personal struggles, including a late diagnosis of ADHD and dyslexia, which clarified why he often dives into projects with intense focus but can also "stonewall" or tune out. This self-awareness helped him adjust his work habits and embrace flexible schedules, making him more productive and understanding of his own limitations. His transformation journey also includes overcoming unhealthy habits from his youth, and he credits these early struggles with his current commitment to a balanced, resilient lifestyle. On the importance of openness, Pete speaks about breaking the silence around mental health and personal hardship, especially as an ambassador for the Miscarriage Association. He sees resilience not just as overcoming adversity but also being transparent about struggles, which he models for his kids, rugby team, and colleagues. By sharing his challenges, he hopes to foster connection and inspire others to keep moving forward.Take Your Business to New Heights: Book Your Spot at the UK's Biggest Business Event to hear from Global Thought Leaders and Industry Pioneers in 2025:https://thebizx.co.uk/Powered By ActionCOACH Business Coaching: The Help You Need to Grow Your Business: https://business.actioncoach.co.uk/ Hosted on Acast. In this candid and inspirational podcast episode, Anthony sits down with Mitchelle Greenaway, a therapist and entrepreneur, as she shares her remarkable journey of triumph over adversity. Mitchelle's story is one of unwavering resilience, from being a teenage mother to overcoming abuse and educational setbacks. She emphasizes the importance of self-protection, self-listening, and the determination needed to navigate life's toughest challenges. Mitchelle's drive to create a brighter future for her children and break generational cycles is truly inspiring. Her experience as a therapist and mentor adds depth to discussions about the complexities of parenting and the profound significance of providing love and support to her children. Overall, this episode is a powerful reminder of the strength of self-belief and resilience, offering valuable insights into personal growth. KEY TAKEAWAYS Mitchelle Greenaway faced numerous setbacks in her life, including being a teenage mother, dropping out of college, and experiencing abuse. However, she used these setbacks as motivation to create a better life for herself and her children. Mitchelle's mother played a significant role in supporting her and providing a safe and loving environment for her and her children. Her mother's unconditional love and protection helped Mitchelle navigate through difficult times. Mitchelle approached motherhood as a job and made a commitment to ensure that her children had a better life than she did. She focused on providing love, support, and guidance to her children, even though she didn't have a traditional family structure. Mitchelle emphasized the importance of self-discovery and personal growth in her journey as a mother. She recognized that in order to be the best parent she could be, she needed to understand herself and address her own challenges and traumas. Mitchelle's experiences in relationships taught her the importance of setting boundaries and not accepting mistreatment. She learned to prioritize her own well-being and the well-being of her children, even if it meant leaving toxic relationships. BEST MOMENTS "I fell into therapy. I fell in love with it because I was mentoring in a school. I had been… Actually, I think we have to go back a little bit further. Let's go back to the beginning." "I remember just making this kind of pact with her, like my job, my job role was to kind of, I saw it as a job. I said, how do I do this? What do I do? And I remember looking at her thinking like, oh my gosh, this is just so surreal and you've come out of me." "I've learned this definitely from this relationship. People will paint pictures. They will say the right things. They'll create a canvas with their words, but there's no actual action. There's no actual canvas being painted. It's just a lot of words that's been thrown and you're allowing your mind to create your own canvas, but that person never actually created the painting for you." "I remember her going to his family's house that day and saying to them, I'll go to prison for my daughter. I'll grow locks and I will go to prison if he ever touches my daughter again. And so she's been like a real, like, my mum's such a softie. I feel like people can take the mick, like have taken a lot of advantage of her. But when it comes to me, there's an element of, there's this lioness there that, you know when you see the lioness that will protect the young? My mum, that's my mum." "I've always been somewhat… This is how you became… This is how I became a therapist because I was in this relationship and even Reese's… Dad, when I said I wanted to go and do my maths, resit my maths GCSE, he was like, no, you can't, you need to stay at home. So even when I got my first job working for a company called the Winter Fellowship, he refused to help me. He wouldn't have her. He was like, no, you need to be at home. And I was like, what? Where did this come from? Where did this kind of personality of yours come from? It wasn't there before?" Our guest today, Jess Sherman, has been on the frontline fighting for our kid's health since 2007! During her time as a teacher, Jess began to notice the many behavioral and mental issues her students were exhibiting. The final straw for her was when she found out that a whopping SIXTY PERCENT of the students in the school she taught at were on some form of medication! Intuitively, this didn't make sense to her, and she knew she had to act. Since then, Jess obtained a degree in holistic nutrition and became a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner amongst other things. She has been serving families and their children for over a decade, and in this episode, we're discussing all the best things that she's learned. We hope you enjoy this very timely episode! About Jess: Jess helps kids experiencing anxiety feel better so life can settle down. Along with being a certified teacher, Jess is a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, Board Certified in Practical Holistic Nutrition. Without addressing this underlying burden on the body, the effort to consume nutrient-rich food is simply a way to plug the holes of vitamin and mineral deficiencies caused by glyphosate.”- Kathleen DiChiara. In this episode, Kathleen describes her dramatic journey feeding her family, how she figured out that chemicals in the food were a major trigger for her and her family's health issues, and how she turned things around. We have a straightforward and honest conversation about food quality, making decisions about where to spend our money, the value of keeping chemicals out, and how the phrase “let food be thy medicine” might be steering us in the wrong direction.Guest Bio:Kathleen DiChiara is a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® Practitioner, BioIndividual Nutrition Practitioner, Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, health advocate, and trained chef. At the same time, her son was diagnosed with autism and she counted 25 chronic illnesses just in her family of 5 alone! Scott has traveled the world for the past 30 years, living in 52 countries, serving in 2 combat tours including the delivery of regional and global projects as a global consultant. Being a past victim of burnout to the point where he actually died, his journey to recovery helped him develop a personalized growth roadmap entitled TIME | LIFE | SELF which is derived from his life's lessons learned. Additionally, Scott offers Leadership Transformation services helping executives and managers recognize their organization's performance thresholds and how to counter polluted circumstances while reducing stress and burnout. In Scott's words: Little did I realize how many directions one's life could go. As a child, I dreamed of exploring the world over. Promising myself to live my life to the fullest, I sought a life that would keep me moving, learning. Working unthinkable projects in harsh conditions, until I couldn't. Leading to my death. Why this and the ensuing depression happened is how I created my TIME | LIFE | SELF program.
