It is Monday, November 13th, 1922, and the Great War is still a fresh wound on the minds of most people.  The small town of Denison, Texas did not see all of its sons return home, but life has had to move on.  But for one family man named Robert Dillon, the world still feels like a cruel and harsh place.  For he has just lowered the body of his brother, Samuel, into the cold autumn ground of the cemetery on the family property.  It is a large cattle ranch that hugs the Red River about thirty miles outside of Denison , and he and his brother had worked closely to keep the ranch successful after the recent passing of their parents.  A few days ago, Robert (also known as Ox by family and friends) sent his wife Mabel to accompany Samuel on a trip into town.  There, tragedy struck, as an automobile screeched out of control, hitting them both in the middle of the street.  Mabel was thrown to the side and landed hard, but Samuel was run down like a dog.  The car sped off as bystanders ran forward.  While everyone there agreed that this was just another tragedy for the Dillon boys, no one could provide any details that would help hunt down the driver of the mysterious car.   As an ex-Pinkerton, Ox Dillon is out for answers.  His days in private investigation and the war has left him a man of action.  But his hands are tied.  With an injured wife, two young daughters, a suddenly widowed sister-in-law Sarah, and a ranch to run on his own, he doesn’t have time to hunt down whoever it was who killed his brother.  So he’s made arrangements for the funeral.  Organized a wake at Red River Baptist church.  And tried to keep some normalcy for the sake of his family.  But of course he can’t just let it go.   He’s leaned on his three trusted farmhands, Hank, Diego, and Slim, for support.  He’s looked to Reverend Smith for guidance, and his wife’s sister Margaret for help.  And he’s reached out to his old Pinkerton friend, John Redfield, to dig into which out-of-towners were in Denison on the day his brother was killed.   The skies are grey, but it's relatively warm in this part of the world, considering the time of year.  And as the sun rises high behind the branches of the old willow tree that stands sentinel over the family graves, Ox takes a deep breath and tries to show his daughters a kind smile to comfort them.  But Ruth is twelve now, and Elizabeth is nine, so they are old enough to understand what death is, and that Uncle Samuel will never be coming home.  They know it, and he can see it on their faces.   It breaks his heart.  He just wants closure now, for himself, and for his family.  And as the funeral wraps up, he looks at the barren plot of earth that covers his brother’s broken body, and he prays for rest.  Little does he know that this will be the closest to rest that his family will ever have together again.  For tonight marks the night where his family will shatter irrevocably... during the tragic Raid at the Dillon Homestead...   CAST KEEPER OF ARCANE SECRETS: Adam ROBERT "OX" DILLON: Grady   CREW Directors: Adam Producers: Daniel, Adam Story by: Adam, Daniel, and Grady Edited by: Adam   Available On: iTunes | Spotify | Podbean | YouTube   Don’t forget to Like/Follow/Subscribe/Whatever when you listen!   Social: Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Reddit Email: info@itsamimic.com Music by: Melodica's Music Logo by: Kate Skidmore

This week, your host Caroline Vander Ark is speaking with Dr. Robert Dillon about learning space design. Robert is an author, speaker, consultant, educator, and a lifelong learner. He has served as an educational leader throughout the Saint Louis area over the last twenty years as a teacher, principal, and Director of Innovation. Currently, he serves the students and community of the School District of University City as Director of Innovation Learning.   Robert Dillon has a passion to change the educational landscape by building excellent engaging schools for all students. He is also the author of four books on best practices in learning, with his newest being, The Space: A Guide for Educators, which focuses on how to create creative spaces for learning. In this book, he pulls from his experiences as a middle school principal for 15 years at an expeditionary learning school. There, he saw that students were able to take their learning opportunities at EL and expand them into other parts of their lives. Aside from sharing great information, the book is also beautifully designed. It’s the type of book where you want to doodle in it, jot down ideas, and share it with others!   Be sure to tune in to listen to Caroline’s and Robert’s conversation as they talk more about designing systems that work for all learners! You don’t want to miss Robert’s take on why space matters and how it plays such a big role in learning, where you can start as an educator who wants to create a learning space with their students, how a great learning space addresses the needs of all learners, and the design principles Robert thinks all fantastic learning spaces should have.   Key Takeaways: [:14] About today’s episode. More than just a space! With Dr. Robert Dillon and Rebecca Hare Rebecca and Robert have teamed up to help share their mutual passion for purposeful design by writing a book that was inspired by the process they both went through together designing learning spaces in the Affton School District.  The book is titled THE SPACE: A Guide for Educators. We are so happy that they could take time out of their busy schedules and share with us their expertise on this subject as Howie and Ryan both throw some burning questions they have about their book, design in general, and design in action.  Ryan definitely admits to being on the basement level when it comes to designing learning spaces but Rebecca and Robert do a wonderful job of bringing him up to speed and tackling the big picture questions by honing them down to specific ideas that can be put into practice by any educator.

Katims): Sonata No. 6 in A Major, G4 Robert Schumann: Märchenbilder, Op.113 Henri Vieuxtemps: Élégie, Op.30 Aurelien Pederzoli, viola Chicago-based violist Aurelian Pederzoli trained from a young age on the violin and his talent and skill earned him wide acclaim from critics and the public alike. But something was missing. Artistic frustrations with the violin led him to pick up the viola and, to his surprise, his authentic musical voice emerged. “The sonority of the viola just seems to resonate with the fibers of my being,” Pederzoli says, “and I love the viola’s repertoire and the very communal role it plays in ensembles.”  A finalist in the 2015 International Hugo Kauder Competition for Viola at Yale University, Pederzoli merges a deep reservoir of  musicality with wide-eyed curiosity about his instrument as a soloist and chamber ensemble player, and as a teacher at the New Music School in Chicago. He is a member of the innovative Black Oak Ensemble which pairs classical works with music from around the world, a frequent collaborator with the Lincoln Trio, and he has toured internationally with blues harmonica virtuoso Corky Siegel. A deft collaborator, Pederzoli works with other musicians of many stripes, including members of eighth black bird, bassist Matt Ulery, composer/pianist Fernando Otero, members of the Vermeer Quartet, pianist H.J Lim, accordionist Julien Labro, violinist Rachel Kolly d'Alba, pianist Christian Chamorel, violinist Daniel Rowland, violist David Aaron Carpenter, and composer/saxophonist Miguel Zenon. He also works with many of the leading composers of our time, Recent project have included Lee Hyla, Hans Thomalla, Gunter Schuller, and Robert Dillon, and he has premiered and recorded works by Augusta Read Thomas, Bernard Rands, Mason Bates,  Shulamit Ran, Sarah Ritch, Jennifer Higdon, Marc Mellitts, Nico Muhly and others. Aurelian Pederzoli was born in France and graduated from the Paris Conservatory before moving to Chicago. He studies viola with Frank Babbitt and Li Kuo Chang. His violin teachers included Jean Lenert, Shmuel Ashkenasi, and Veda Reynolds. In 2008, Pederzoli cofounded Anaphora Ensemble to explore and present adventurous music in Chicago. Pederzoli was a founding member of the Spektral Quartet in 2010 and played with the ensemble until 2014. His work appears on recordings from Azica, Parlour Tapes+, Cedille, Southport, and Aparte labels. A new string trio recording with Desirée Ruhstrat, violin, and David Cunliffe, cello, of music by Conrad Tao, Jennifer Higdon, David Ludwig, and Marc Mellits, is forthcoming in 2016.   Matthew Hagle, piano Pianist Matthew Hagle is a musician of great versatility and depth, whose performances are a rare mixture of musical understanding, imaginative programming, pianistic mastery and beauty of sound. In solo recitals he often explores the boundaries of the piano repertoire, using thoughtful programming and committed performance to integrate newer repertoire and lesser-known older works with the traditional canon. At the moment, he is working on a more conventional project: performing the 32 Beethoven Sonatas in a series of live radio recitals. Mr.
