We hear a lot about how principals should take time for self care, but in this week's episode, we explore what true self care looks like. While spa appointments, massages, and lattes are great, they don't solve the issues of an overcrowded schedule, intense pressure, and demands on your time -- they merely medicate them. So, on today's episode, we're breaking down 2 secrets Builders use to ensure that no matter how packed their schedules are, they don't end the day depleted. In fact, if you do these 2 things, you can ensure that you end every day feeling accomplished. Then, when you go to the spa or engage in some other form of self care, you can truly enjoy your experience because you aren't stressed all the way out. So, if you feel like you need a little self care, today's episode will show you how to truly care for yourself and protect your energy #LikeABuilder.

Part 1: Time Management Habits of Highly Effective Women: Planning Your Day

The Classy Career Girl Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 3, 2023 22:05

As a mom of 3 daughters, these time management habits helped me say focused on my goals while also having fun running my business too. Say “goodbye” to stress and “hello” to more joy in your work and life after implementing 1-2 of these habits in your weekly routine. 1. THEY PLAN THEIR DAY THE NIGHT BEFORE. Before you go to bed, do you know what your top priorities are for the next day? You don't want to be stressed in the morning and you want to be able to have a plan. Before you go to bed, know what your priorities are and this will greatly reduce any overwhelm you have. Personal Update! Changes in my life!! Homeschooling for the next year! Traveling around Europe! CCG International - Starting in Rome, Italy in July I could do a whole episode on everything related to that but the biggest thing that I want to encourage you in is that with the right time management habits, you can still live the life of your dreams, the career of your dreams.  We can all be busy but what truly matters because you do have time for that. I am going to be homeschooling in the morning and in the afternoons working/taking coaching calls. Lately I have been using a habit tracker and I can see the habits I am not getting done, Those need to be scheduled into the day. For example, 10K steps. Journaling. Nope. drinking water. Nope.If it doesn't get schedule into the day. It doesn't get done. Same with your big goals, i teach my clients when they create 90 days plans, we break down the tasks and put them into their calendar.  Now that I have a company, I have a 25 person org chart and I go through those roles on my calendar. Mond: SM manager. Tue: Program Director. Thur: Sales Person Not a list of a million things to do. I put the days schedule for the kids on the whiteboard. Communication is key. So you and everyone around you knows what to expect. So when do you plan your day ahead of time? I do this right after dinner. Clean up and write it down. Every Sunday I do a weekly review so I have a general idea of what is going to happen during the week. Being a homeschool mom is actually making me more effective at habits and routines. It's forcing me to get better because I have less time to waste. And my kids are my ultimate why. With a 9 year old, this is the time that I have with her to teach her the things I wish I knew at that age. I love you all and all my clients, but the girls in my house (or airbnbs for the next year) are truly what matters most to me right now. I just feel this huge responsibility right now to teach them. And I never imagined I would be a homeschool mom but I truly know that it's my calling right now and I will make time for it because it's important. While also reaching my business goals too! Because trust me, CCG has some big vision and mission that we are currently in the midst of completing. Build a life outside of work that you are so excited for. Work is important. And those baby steps count. Over 13 years ago I started a blog. I'm not just moving to Europe on day 1 and working. It's 13 years of daily work on my business. It's also over 10 years of trying to have kids as well. Having kids was not easy for me. I dealt with many miscarriages and IVF and embryo transfers and ugh it was not fun. So now that my three miracles are here, I see how every step and disappointment and better luck next time has truly led me to today.  I will never stop saying that every baby step counts. Keep doing things imperfectly. Keep believing in your vision. Keep posting those dreams to your vision board. Keep believing. And back to the topic of the day, keep planning out your day ahead of time. Trust me! This will change your life.  I'm looking forward to our next podcast episode I am going to share part 2: Setting boundaries.  If you want to go employee to entrepreneur, "Employee to Entrepreneur" Success Path Learn How to Successfully Transition from Employee to Entrepreneur and GROW Your Business the Right Way!  https://www.classycareergirl.com/crpwebinar/

Episode 36 -  In the second of our series on managing your focus, we give you the structure to help you set your day up to be efficient, manage your focus and attention, and win at life. Some of the USEFUL stuff in there is: Don't wish your life away just trying to get to the end of your day Demand a high quality of life DURING the day 5 Tools and Techniques to bullet-proof your day and make progress towards what's important Some of it comes from - David Allen's GTD And some from - Peter Bregman's 18 Minutes And the rest is from mw We look at the 5 tools in a simple 'manual' way first A Notebook An Action List Buckets A Calendar A Routine 1) A Notebook - Or something to dump your 'head stuff' into... Stop waking up at 2am because you've just remembered things The journey my Fisher Space Pen took INTERACTIVE LISTENERS - DECIDE ON HOW YOU ARE GOING TO ENSURE YOU CAN WRITE DOWN ANYTHING THAT COMES TO MIND AND GET IT OUT OF YOUR HEAD 2) Action List - Stop being woolly... What's wrong with a to-do list? I let you in on the secret The actual to-do list I was referring to (actually it's a good article) 'Write Blog Post' is the wrong thing to have on your list A better version could be: Decide on Blog Post Subject Write first paragraph Write second paragraph Write third paragraph Review and edit post Choose an image Upload to Wordpress Post on Twitter Start with an "Action" and keep it simple INTERACTIVE LISTENERS - IF YOU HAVE YOUR LIST FROM LAST WEEK, RE-WRITE THE ITEMS ON THERE INTO ACTIONS. A VERB OR ACTION WORD FIRST - AND KEEP IT SIMPLE. IF YOU DIDN'T DO LAST WEEK INTERACTIVELY, PRACTICE WRITING OUT SOME TASKS AS AN 'ACTION' 3) Buckets - Where you put the stuff ready to do it... Choosing categories to batch your work. GTD calls them 'Contexts'. Deciding on your buckets. Consider: Where do you do your stuff? Who do you do it with? What items or devices do you need? What are your different frames of mind? What do you tend to do when you've got high/low energy? A good resource for inspiration is at - Simplicity Bliss My buckets: Errands/Shopping - Things to buy, dry cleaners, groceries (we use Wunderlist for this) Home - Clearing garage, painting, housework Agendas - Things I do with other people, work, family, everyone Quick Jobs - Firing off e-mails, reading memo's, updating calendar Calls - Self explanatory Downtime - Where I put articles, website links or pamphlets for later reading Brain Dead - Cleaning things, tidying, clearing out Full focus - Stuff I have to pay attention to, writing reports, reviewing complex data, meetings. Often these will be things I will use the Pomodoro technique for Routines - Regular repetitive tasks. Things I do every day/week. All my repeat things are in here from daily meditation to clearing e-mails to zero. My 18 minutes actions are in here Review - The weekly review, along with any regular reports and info I get which doesn't need full focus, but is also not a 'quick job' Someday Maybe - Things that I don't need to do soon, but which I want to keep on the radar because thay may become live tasks at some point. Be careful as this can easily become a 'dumping ground' so must be cleared out weekly You need a physical representation of each bucket with the relevant jobs or actions physically inside them. You can use Expander Files, Filing Cabinets, In-Trays, A book divided into sections, Even actual buckets! Note - if you are doing this with pen and paper, it's important to keep a copy of the full action list somewhere ready for your weekly review. You are ensuring that each action is ALSO in one bucket. INTERACTIVE LISTENERS - DECIDE ON WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE AS YOUR BUCKETS, AND HOW YOU ARE GOING TO PHYSICALLY SET THEM UP 4) Calendar - Where the good stuff happens...
