Fresh from a cold open training session at London Colney, Simon Collings (The Standard) joins host Jacob Hawley for a new episode of The Dugout. The pair dissect the “gut punch” defeat at Villa Park, analyzing how the match descended into an “Unai Emery basketball game” and asking the big question: Can this team survive the winter without the aura of Gabriel and William Saliba? On the agenda: Defensive Frailties: Analyzing the makeshift backline and Hincapié's adjustment to the Premier League. The Eze Debate: Is he struggling to adapt to the system, or does he just need time like Declan Rice did? Odegaard's Role: Why Arsenal need the 15-goal version of their captain back. Squad Rotation: Looking ahead to Club Brugge—will Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly finally get minutes? The Striker Situation: Gyökeres' fitness, the Jesus wildcard, and the Noni Madueke conundrum. Simon's Hot Take: Why he is doubling down on his prediction that Arsenal will win the league by 10 points. It was at the point that Crystal Palace announced their line-up at Fulham that James knew his luck was in. With Daniel Munoz absent from The Eagles squad with a knee injury, James was able to bank Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's 16 points and laugh about some brilliant bench jam. And it was just as well because it was a painful week otherwise! Luck or skill? You need a bit of both in this game. Suj joins James for a review of all the weekend games as Aston Villa beat Arsenal late, it was a late win for Palace too at Fulham and West Ham also lost a late lead at Brighton. There was late carnage to at Elland Road as Liverpool blew a comfortable lead, but it was events after the game and Mo Salah's interview that may prove even more damaging for The Reds. FPL managers now have 5 free transfers at their disposal and both Suj and James have gone early with one move, but will the other moves be made or can transfers be banked? Most is seems, will be making aggressive moves. But are there even 3 good forwards in the game!? Villa Park erupted. What looked like a hard-earned point turned into a afternoon of strangers hugging, tears in the Holte, and a goalmouth scramble that bent time. In the chaos of stoppage time, Emi Buendia stepped through the noise and curled in a winner that crushed Arsenal and brought Villa within three points of their visitors and... gave them the title of Linear Unofficial World Club Champions for the forty seventh time. The show pulls apart the tactical swings, the substitutions that made no sense until they suddenly did, Arsenal's strange lack of urgency, the late shift in momentum, and the way Emery's bench forced the decisive moment. From Matty Cash's hammer strike toBoubacar Kamara's ground-level heroics to the eruption that followed, this episode captures a statement performance from a team that is starting to believe in itself.Villa are grinding, adapting, evolving, and winning games they used to let slip. And the rest of the league has no choice but to take them seriously.UTVGET AD-FREE SHOWS and JOIN MATCH CLUBGet ad-free shows and extra shows, and join My Old Man Said's 24/7 Villa community, Match Club. For more details and to become a member, click here: Become a MOMS MemberJoin the show's listener facebook group The Mad Few.Credits:David Michael - @myoldmansaid Chris Budd - @BUDD_musicPhillip Shaw - @prsgameMy Old Man Said - https://www.myoldmansaid.comThis Podcast has been created and uploaded by My Old Man Said. Mo Salah dropped a bombshell on Saturday evening. After starting on the bench for the third game in a row he gave an incendiary interview after the match claiming to have been thrown under the bus, a scapegoat for recent poor form and said he had no relationship with coach Arne Slot. So, what happens next - will it be the end of Salah or Slot at Liverpool? Can any player be guaranteed a place in the team regardless of form as Salah seems to be suggesting? On the pitch Villa coach Unai Emery led his team to a win over Arsenal and third in the table - remarkable achievement after the start they had. Are there worrying signs for Arsenal, or were they just beaten by a better team on the day? After the break a valuable three points for Spurs and Thomas Frank, but an even more important performance; top quality at the Cottage and does Nuno like his players? Salah Bombshell | Ashes Update | Villa stun Arsenal Dharmesh Sheth is joined by Jonathan Liew, Dan Kilpatrick and James Olley to reflect on the weekend's sporting action. We begin with Mo Salah's explosive interview, in which he hints at a breakdown in his relationship with Arne Slot and suggests he feels unwanted at the club after being benched again.Next, we turn to the Ashes, where England have finally shown some fight — but the question remains: why has it taken so long? Jonathan believes it's a huge missed opportunity and compares England's approach to “Ange-ball.”We then turn to the WSL, where we're joined by Megan Feringa to ask what's gone wrong for Arsenal's Champions League winners. Megan believes the presence of so many high-profile players has led to an overreliance on individual brilliance rather than unity and a cohesive style of play.Next, we move on to the World Cup draw. While James criticises the politicisation of the event — highlighted by Donald Trump receiving a peace prize — we focus on England's fixtures and travel itinerary. We then look at Arsenal's defeat at Villa Park. James highlights the state of the squad, noting they used a sixth different centre-back pairing at the end of a gruelling run of fixtures. Are they starting to look vulnerable? Finally, it's a tale of two Manchester sides. Manchester City's dominant win over Sunderland has cut the title race gap to just two points, with Pep's men looking like they still have gears to spare in the new year. Meanwhile, after Manchester United dropped another two points at home to West Ham in midweek, you have to ask: are the lower European spots the best Amorim's team can realistically hope for this season?Sunday Supplement is a Sky Sports podcast. This week's My Old Man Said podcast opens with the Lovers Walk Unlimited Orchestra summing up the Villa week in song, before the show dives straight into the fallout from a chaotic few days. From David's Dublin airport delay courtesy of Zelensky, to a Brighton game that veered from disaster to delirium, it has been peak Villa in every imaginable way.The show pulls apart the Brighton match first. Emery's rage in the dugout. A tactical plan that looked too respectful. A comeback powered by firepower off the bench. Questions about the squad answered by Onana bullying back posts, Watkins waking up again and Marlon emerging as a genuine asset. Emery's long-range revolution gets dissected too. The pundits are baffled, the xG merchants are twitching, but Villa are simply doing what good teams do. Take the right shot when it is on.From there the episode moves into the Arsenal preview. A match that could tilt the entire narrative of the season. Beat Arsenal and suddenly the door creaks open to something bigger. As MOMS say, the T-word is banned until further notice, but the implications are impossible to ignore. There is also Villa News: Barkley's injury setback, Martinez disappearing again in the warm-up, Young Boys away-end arrests, merch-line overload and the progress of the North Stand redevelopment. Emery's Clipboard returns with a forensic look at Martinez's numbers, Bizot's impact, and how fine margins in goalkeeping shape the entire season. The Villa Engine gets a nod with the under-18s hammering Fulham. Then there is the bigger picture. The Football Supporters' Association “Stop Exploiting Loyalty” campaign gains parliamentary backing. BBC research highlights the rise of abusive posts aimed at managers. And Juan Sebastián Verón gets banned for refusing a guard of honour in Argentina. It is a sprawling, funny, chaotic and insight-packed episode that captures Villa's strange reality this season. Emery's side are grinding, exploding, wobbling and rising again, often in the space of a single match. And as the show suggests, if Villa beat Arsenal, things might get very interesting indeed.A proper bumper edition. Listen. Strap in. And avoid airports whenever world leaders land.UTVGET AD-FREE SHOWS and JOIN MATCH CLUBGet ad-free shows and extra shows, and join My Old Man Said's 24/7 Villa community, Match Club. Dan Bardell's day at Villa Park documented, as he is joined by his wife instead of his Dad. What a game, scenes at the end in the Holte!
