Edmonton's pop-punk powerhouse Real Sickies are set to release their fifth full-length album, Under a Plastic Bag, on March 14, 2025, via Stomp Records. The album's first advance single, “Triage,” is out now, offering an electrifying glimpse into the band's knack for blending raw punk energy with sharp, melodic hooks. Known for their relentless touring and infectious anthems, Real Sickies have cemented their status as a standout act in the global punk scene, with even Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day calling them his favorite Canadian punk band. “Triage” embodies the chaos and resilience central to the band and their new album. Inspired by a harrowing car accident Ben Disaster and his family survived after returning from a European tour, the track reflects a surreal mix of panic and perseverance. After their car flipped on black ice, Ben and his wife emerged unharmed, finding their dogs casually on the highway. “As much as we wanted to go home, we went ice fishing as the shock wore off,” Ben recalls. This experience fueled the song, which took shape under producer Joshua Wells. “Josh really helped bring it to life. It wasn't complete until we let it out in the studio—it's chaos, but real. It asks, ‘What do you fix first?'” The accompanying video, directed by Jesse Nash, adds frenetic creativity with miniature models handcrafted by Ben, including a matchstick airplane and a glitter-covered Titanic. “It was so much fun,” Ben says. “Alvin and Snobs—our two stars—were tough but nailed it. The process also made me reflect on the album's environmental themes. We documented it all to avoid repeating it. The video is a deep dive into the psyche, asking again, ‘What do you fix first?'” This new album also marks a shift in the band's sonic landscape, embracing new wave, power pop, and indie influences. The band recorded with renowned producer Josh Wells (Autogramm, Black Mountain), who is known for using classic gear and recording equipment to capture the true essence of these genres. Wells' stamp is all over the album, shaping its sound with his meticulous approach to creating authentic new wave textures and power pop hooks. Discussing the first single, Wells said, “This song reminds me, at first, of being on adderall. Random thoughts, itchy eyes, the urge to rock really fast. But then, the song settles into a sick, focused motorik jam. Here we get some alien percussion floating down from another universe to join in and rocket ahead. For a moment, the human jam fuses with the aliens, but then the relationship deteriorates, the humans get mad and break out, the whole thing ending with a total meltdown.” D I S C O V E RBandcamp: https://realsickies.bandcamp.com/Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/realsickies/Youtube:https://youtube.com/stomprecordscanadaLabel: https://stomprecords.com/bands/real-sickies/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/@therealsickies/Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/artist/69zOtixHikb7pSLZGKYYRN?si=GZODBBr-TIaaF7n5d33HFA This Episode is brought to you by..Go to BETTERHELP.com/apologue for confidential online counselling.use the code word Apologue for a 7 day free trial Checkout my YouTube Channel with long form interviews from the Subversives | the History of Lowest of the Low. The Anti-Queens, Toronto's premiere punk rock 'n' rollers, have just announced their latest LP, "Disenchanted," with an advance single and video for the track "Doomed Again". The new album will appear worldwide on digital and vinyl formats via Stomp Records on May 17th, 2024. For over a decade, The Anti-Queens have been a prominent force in Toronto's music scene. The Anti-Queens are led by the fiercely talented and dynamic duo of Emily Bones and Valerie Knox, who bring a punk-rock energy that challenges the male-dominated music industry. Known for their electrifying live performances, they've gained a reputation for their unstoppable energy and powerful stage presence. Their latest album, "Disenchanted," continues their tradition of crafting infectious, hook-laden anthems that will surely delight fans of Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, The Distillers, Hole, L7, Lunachicks, and The Warning. The advance single “Doomed Again” embodies the essence of blistering 1977 punk, infused with just the right touch of Bad Religion and Green Day to keep it fresh and driving. The Anti-Queens skillfully pay tribute to their enduring punk roots while injecting enough energy to keep it from feeling derivative.Featuring lyrics that intertwine defiance with sincerity, razor-sharp hooks, and a musical style that epitomizes the essence of "rock 'n' roll," The Anti-Queens are back with a vengeance. The music video for the advance single "Doomed Again" showcases the band immersed in a passionate performance, accompanied by two wild ghost figures driving around town before landing in a rehearsal space to join the rock-out session. Directed by Emily Bones and Michael Crusty, and produced by Crusty Media and Stomp Records, the video captures the energy of the song. Filmed by Michael Crusty and Sarah Mathieson, with editing by Michael Crusty and performance lighting by Jefferson Sheppard, the video stars Valerie Knox, Emily Bones, Michael Crusty, and Sara Fellin. The lyrics of "Doomed Again" resonate with the struggle and resilience of pursuing dreams amidst life's challenges, reflecting on the enduring nature of aspirations formed in youth. Despite facing obstacles, the song encourages perseverance and embracing life's journey, recognizing that setbacks contribute to memorable narratives. Band member Valerie Knox said, “Doomed Again is a love letter to all the bands out there who never stop doing the grind. There's almost always something that can and will go wrong, but it's never dull being in a rock n' roll band”. They filmed the music video in Ajax and Oshawa, Ontario. The jam space is one of the actual places they rehearse, jazzed up with added lights and a slew of Easter eggs in the background—old show flyers, banners, photos, stickers, and merch. “While we did our best to plan everything, we still ended up crafting our ghost costumes until 4 am just before the jam space shoot, all while a massive blizzard swept through. Very on brand for the title of the song” Photo Credit: Riley Taylor D I S C O V E R Twitter:https://twitter.com/AntiQueensTikTok:https://www.tiktok.com/@theantiqueensFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/TheAntiqueens/Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/theantiqueens/Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/artist/1CX0fdiDs9n9HSJs1PRSy3Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCp6NZIIG3um2ii8F4Sglcrw This episode is brought to you byGo to BETTERHELP.com/apologue for confidential online counselling.use the code word Apologue for a 7 day free trial Pledge monthly with Patreon https://www.patreon.com/apologueShop Apologue products at http://apologue.ca/shop

If you wake up in the morning, feeling shy and lonely, and think "gee, I gotta go to school" (or work), brighten your day with O3L. If you don't think you can make it, don't think you can take it, and wonder what you're going to do, we're here for you. Everybody can succeed, all you need is to believe. Be honest with yourself, forget your fears and doubts. C'mon, give us a try at Degrassi...oops, we mean, Only Three Lads! By now, it may be abundantly obvious that we are celebrating our friends to our north, as we discuss our Top 5 Canadian Albums of the O3L era. Joining us for the topic on hand is the synth-soaked power poppers Autogramm, whose members are from Vancouver, Seattle, and Chicago. Their recently released album Music That Humans Can Play is out now on vinyl and digital formats on Stomp Records. It's an album that draws influences from The Cars, 20/20, Devo, Cheap Trick, The Boys and others, resulting in a cohesive and blissfully cool album that will appeal to listeners from record store snobs to garage rock slobs to synth-pop heartthrobs! We had a blast speaking with Jiffy Marx (vocals, synths, guitars), The Silo (vocals, drums, synths, guitars), CC Voltage (vocals, bass, guitars) and Lars Von Seattle (guitars, vocals). So please don't be a hoser or a broomhead - just listen, eh? Technical note: We experienced technical difficulties with a couple of audio tracks and had to resort to a lower resolution cloud recording for some sections. You may hear some echo or inconsistent volume at times, but it shouldn't impair your enjoyment of this fun conversation! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Energetic, raw, honest, and heart on the sleeve punk rock, Brutal Youth have been causing a ruckus for the last 10+ years. Singer Patty O'Lantern, drummer Dustin Campbell, bassist Kyle Hynes, and guitarist Greg Hounsel formed the band in 2010. The band hit the ground running and recorded their first brutally fantastic album, "Spill Your Guts". Shortly thereafter the group uprooted themselves from their hometown of St. John's, NL and moved to Toronto. After settling into their new digs, Brutal Youth gained attention with their lightning-fast sets and blood-soaked high-intensity performances. A long list of records and touring ensued while the band honed their craft and caught the attention of various record labels. Stomp Records is proud to present their most current longplayer Rebuilding Year on beautiful blue marble vinyl. Keep an eye out for this punk rock tornado with a deluge of live shows planned for 2023. Toronto, Canada had a raging ska scene in the mid-2000s. It included ska bands like Hebrew School Dropouts, Suzy Jacuzzi and the Hottubs, and Five Across The Eye. It also included PUP singer Stefan Babcock's former ska band Stop Drop N Skank. But there was one band, The Flatliners, who would go on to sign to Fat Wreck Chords and make a name for themselves in the punk scene. But when they started, they played intense ska-punk. A brutal, aggressive mix of Suicide Machines, Kid Dynamite, Against All Authority and Voodoo Glow Skulls. Today we bring on Flatliners lead singer Chris Cresswell to talk about his early ska years, which includes the brilliant 2005 Stomp Records album Destroy To Create, a favorite among some of their fans that want The Flatliners to bring back the ska. We discuss iconic Toronto venue, Big Bop which fostered this scene by hosting multiple all ages shows every week. We also talk about how Steve Foote from Big D and the Kids Table helped get the band signed, The many ska tours that The Flatliners did (Catch 22, Suicide Machines, Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake), and how OG Flatliners ska fans always "Spill Your Guts" at shows. We also find out if it was Fat Mike that asked the band to stop playing ska! You won't believe what Chris has to say about that! Your Canadian & Great Lakes Surf / SUP Podcast #PERMASTOKED with #DerikHyatt, Season 2 Episode 10: Mark Malibu – Surfin' a Go Go Podcast Show, NOW AVAILABLE for streaming and download on: Apple https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/permastoked-with-derik-hyatt/id1518415157 Google https://podcasts.google.com/search/permastoked Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/6qsR6lN7M7edO798HSBxpj YouTube https://youtu.be/iFvOj2oSqrM Or wherever else you get your podcasts. Help us keep the stoke burning by leaving us a rating and review after you listen / watch and share! In this episode, Derik Hyatt chats with Mark Sanders, otherwise known as Mark Malibu of Mark Malibu & The Wasagas (@wasagas_surf). Catching their 2nd wave, the Wasagas (www.thewasagas.com) are Canada's original Surf Punk Instrumentalists existing from 1979-1982. They were groovy teenagers living far from the west coast. They played with many new-wave and punk bands confusing audiences everywhere. It was not easy playing surf instrumental music when clubs wanted Black Sabbath, Black Flag or...any other band wearing black clothes with vocals. They did, however, manage to align with some other young bands around town and play the usual Toronto dives like the Turning Point, Larry's Hideaway, Cabana Room to name a few. They also managed to record 7 original songs which appeared on several Post Punk compilations distributed around the world. Back with a vengeance as they reunited in 2014 for several shows with all original members. That's 32 years later! The future promises to be interesting for these retro-fitted Wasagas. They signed with UK's Sharawaji Records and released three full length LPs "Return of the Wasagas" and "Crash Monster Beach" which entered the international surf charts at #1 and remained there for 6 weeks...and now "Dance Party a' Go Go" which has also reached #1 in the charts. Now a staple on the Canadian Rockabilly/Surf scene, there are many live shows coming to your town... Surfs Up again! Help us keep the stoke burning by leaving us a rating and review after you listen / watch and share! In this episode, Derik Hyatt chats with pro surfer and “American Hoser”, Kevin Schulz! Why a hoser? Because this 26-year-old San Clementine has been made an honourary Canadian after falling in love with both Great Lakes and East Coast swell, along with its people, and of course Tim Horton's sour cream glazed donuts. Though, being true to his American roots, he is also a bit of a cowboy, or more specifically an “air cowboy!” Designed by Perfect Swell the people at American Wave Machines created the Freak of The Peak to launch surfers as high as possible with no resemblance of a normal wave nor does it mimic the ocean in anyway. Kevin performed a backflip so casually at 2019 Stab High event in Waco, Texas during practice that was such a stand out that it was deemed the biggest air landed resulting in 10K award to Kevin. Other interesting facts about Team USA's Kevin Schulz: he loves coffee, rides goofyfoot, and has a Siberian Husky. Be sure to watch Kevin's sick air at https://stabmag.com/stabcinema/kevin-schulz-takes-the-freak-peak-and-10k/. This episode was recorded on March 1, 2021 and may contain coarse language. He lives above 1/800th of a second, but isn’t afraid to slow things down. It’s sex, drugs and rock & roll, but also, it’s smooth jazz and a cup of tea. A habitual homebody just itching to get out of his comfort zone. Surfing is the reason he wakes up every morning. He doesn’t matter. The endeavour of marathon swims in bone-chilling and heart-pounding conditions is irrelevant. What’s important to him lies in front of the lens. The split-second moments that most people don’t even know exist; capturing them forever instead of letting them pass by. - Excerpt taken from www.marcuspaladino.com/about-marcus Connect with Marcus Paladino online at www.marcuspaladino.com, on Instagram at @marcuspaladino and on Facebook at @marcuspaladinophotography. She started the collective to bring instructors together in hopes of supporting her passion to grow a safe community of River Stand Up Paddlers through quality instruction and training. As head instructor and Paddle Canada Certified Instructor Trainer, she plans to work with all the collective instructors to provide high quality training for all students wanting to take courses related to SUP. Reta fell in love with SUP after she was first introduced to it in 2010. It is a sport that anyone can enjoy and the sport can be as challenging as you want it to be as you progress from flat water on lakes to whitewater on the rivers. Happy NYE cuckers. This week the experts gripe piss and moan about frivolous inconveniences and talk about cool shit we did when we were young - aka the exact same show as every week. Thank you Bike Thiefs for the intro, check out their new album on Stomp Records!
As is tradition, The Experts gather round on this fine Christmas Eve and talk about nothing and complain, piss and gripe about most others. Bike Thiefs is a Toronto-based post-punk trio made up of bassist Kris Pandierada, drummer Andrew Fasken and guitarist/vocalist Marko Woloshyn. The band have been together for over 5 years and in that time have released three EPs, as well as a full-length album titled "Leaking", which they released this year after signing with Montreal-based label Stomp Records. During these somewhat dark COVID times, we can often be at risk of surrendering to the doom and gloom of isolation, boredom, and hopelessness; but in the spirit of Christmastime and the Holiday Season, allow yourself to be reminded by our youth that hope lies ahead in both the present and future. In this episode, Derik Hyatt chats with Canadian female surfing prodigy, Mathea Olin. Listen as this 17 year old pro surfer takes this 38 year old kook to school all hour long while she drops wisdom bombs about being yourself, keeping fun at the centre, inspiring others, staying stoked in trying times, training hard, loving what you do, having a growth mindset, and eating ice cream on the road to the Olympics. Mathea Olin was born on February 2, 2003 in Canmore, Alberta. At six years old she and her family moved to Tofino, BC where she fell in love with surfing and began competing only four years later. Her accolades include: winning Canada’s first ever international medals in surfing which included gold in longboard and bronze in shortboard at the 2017 Pan Am Surf Games; and bronze in longboard at the 2019 Pan Am Games. Mathea’s aspirations include competing in the world Olympics and being the first Canadian to enter into the World Tour. Keep your sights set on this Queen of the Peak; because as long as she froths for surf, she is bound to make Canadian Surfing Herstory! To connect with Mathea Olin, follow her on Instagram at @mathea_olin and be sure to watch Mathea And Paige Alms Experience The Wave-Riding Roots Of Haida Gwaii in Redbull’s short film Northern Tides at https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=-5Ukx5MzkJU&feature=youtu.be&linkId=77408384&fbclid=IwAR3sVT94UNTqModDTKkAD4LFQuXdD7LGg2YS7xHAdhxT4365B8NUNHbJXbA. Best show ever? Oh best show ever. This week the Experts pitch each other products like Dragons Den/Shark Tank and laugh the entire time? Some of these products are pure gold, and some of them are mini septic tanks you wear in your pants to catch accidental poops. Thank you Bike Thiefs for the rager intro! Skyler has a great idea, lets cover aircraft carries with a field and farm out on the ocean. Apparently, those boats can go super fast and keep up with the sun so it will be noon all year. Ok buddy. Thank you Bike Thiefs for the intro, new album "Leaking" out now on Stomp Records

I guess we have to talk 'lections? Thank you Bike Thiefs for the killer into and congrats on your new album Leaking - out now on STOMP Records
The Bouncing Souls put out a new album, but not really. Its all old songs redone and updated. Sounded cool and we all were looking forward to it bit as we discussed in this episode its kinda bleh. Also there is so many different "limited edition" coloured vinyls they can buy a ticket and go fuck themselves. The Experts also circle back to Junk Ladder and answer some fan questions. Please send more questions to prettymuchemail@gamil.com Oh! And also we play a song from Mike's short lived band with Shawn (the guy that shot a guy) and Damian (the guy who was shot). Thank you Bike Thiefs for the killer into and congrats on your new album Leaking - out now on STOMP Records
To the shock of no one, Mikes buddy might have killed a guy. Shotgun to the chest. Buddy is still alive, so its not really murder but we'll see. Also the rumour is the guy that got shot might of kind of had it coming. Thank you Bike Thiefs for the intro! Their new album "Leaking" out in late October on Stomp Records.
Nofx did a PPV style concert called Weekend At Fattys, where they played the 1992 album White Trash Two Heebs and A Bean from start to finish. It was a killer show and we talked about it a bunch. Shout out to Bike Thiefs and their new album Leaking, available at the end of the month on Stomp Records
By night, Matt Collyer is the front man to Montreal's preeminent ska-punk band, The Planet Smashers. By day, he's in charge of one of the city's most successful indie rock music labels. Running a label means lots of elbow grease, tough decisions, and learning on the fly - but somehow Matt's makin' work!
This week RJ goes on and on about how clean his butt is and Mike tells a few tales about life in the van. Dealing with passive aggressive business owners blasting his spot up with lights, and some lady and her cuck Buick parking way way way too close. Thank you Bike Thiefs for the wild intro riff! You guys rock and we can't wait for the new album coming out this fall on Stomp Records.

In this episode, Derik Hyatt chats with Canada’s first female Pro Surfer, Catherine Bruhwiler. Catherine is a lifelong local Tofino surfer who loves to spend most of her time in the ocean. A talented surfer with a beautiful style, Catherine is an incredible ambassador for her hometown of Tofino, B.C as a first-generation surfer in Canada. Now a surf coach and surf mom of one of Canada’s first Surfing Olympic hopefuls, Kalum Bruhwiler Temple; Catherine represented Canada at the Pan American Games in 2019 as one of the first members of the Canadian Surf Team. As one of the 9 qualified SUP Surf females in the Americas, this was an unbelievable dream come true for one of Canada’s first professional surfers. Catherine has 2 children, 9 nieces and nephews and a grandchild she loves to surf with. Catherine grew up surfing the cold waters of the Northwest Pacific coast, on northern Vancouver Island, with her 3 brothers, at a time when there were no other females in the water. Growing up on the rugged beaches, they would explore and hike through dense forests, remote beaches, often in massive rain storms, looking for remote beaches to surf. They would camp out in in the wilderness for days at a time on their surf trips, fishing and foraging for their meals. She and her brothers were young pirates, exploring the coast of Vancouver Island and often other countries, on their quest for their golden treasure; the perfect wave. These cold remote waters and forests of Canada are home to Catherine. Catherine is an inspiration and ambassador for young girls, as she has won the Woman’s National Canadian Surf title many times and makes the podium in every long-distance paddle board race and surf contest she enters. She won the 2017 and 2019 Canada’s National Women’s SUP Surf Championships and in December of 2017 and 2018 in Peru, qualified for a spot the Canadian Team for the 2019 Pan American Games. She continues competing and winning awards in both local and international surf and SUP events. Catherine helps run the local Boardriders Surf Club on Canada’s west coast and runs the annual free and very well attended kid’s surf contest, the Bruhwiler Kids Surf Classic, with her family. Catherine often travels with the Junior Canadian Surf Team as a coach. As a Paddle Canada and ISA SUP and Surf Instructor (Levels 1&2) and Instructor Trainer for Flatwater SUP, SUP surfing, surfing and SUP touring, she coaches surfing and paddle boarding full time. She loves surfing with and coaching the local kids and is very committed to inspiring and motivating the younger surfers to keep their aspirations and passions alive. Catherine is an active volunteer and ambassador for a few environmental organizations including Surfrider Foundation and helps promote education around protection of the ocean and beaches. Her business, events and personal brand team up to fundraise, educate and promote environmental actions. She believes that in sharing her love of nature with others and helping them fully enjoy it she can help foster inspiration in others to care and protect the ocean. When she is not teaching and coaching surfing with her brothers Sepp and Raph or out on the water paddle boarding, she will be found traveling, camping and surfing the remote coastal surf breaks with her family and friends, finding new waves and slices of heaven on Vancouver Island’s remote coastline. With her vast experience growing up on the ocean and surfing, Catherine brings a wealth of local knowledge to all her endeavours. Catherine is sponsored by Werner Paddles, Live to Surf, and Aftanas Surfboards and is the proud Owner and Operator of Tofino Paddle Surf. Follow Catherine’s adventures online at https://tofinopaddlesurf.com/ and on Instagram at @cathbruhwiler and @tofinopaddle and on Facebook at @catherinebruhwiler and @TofinoPaddleSurf. In this episode, Derik Hyatt interviews the Founder/Owner of SWELL Education | Paddle and Surf TOFINO, Paddle Canada Instructor Trainer, Red Cross First Aid Instructor and star of the video, Wild Coast, Emre Bosut. Paddling has accompanied Emre on his journey through life. It Started off in a whitewater kayak searching for waves along the shores of Lake Ontario where he grew up. It’s been a long and exciting journey, working across the country and internationally as a guide and instructor, to his current home in Tofino BC, where the waves are much bigger. One thing that hasn’t changed is Emre’s love of being on the water, which today is usually on a paddleboard or surfboard. Emre is passionate about instruction and learning along with people. He is excited to be developing Canada’s most comprehensive SUP instruction program, drawing resources upon his experiences as a guide trainer, whitewater kayak instructor and sea kayak guide. Emre is always stoked to share his love for catching waves and learning in the outdoors. If he’s not figuring new ways to share the world of paddling with others, you know where he can be found: In the surf. As a pioneer in BC’s Stand Up Paddlesurfing scene, be inspired by his origin story growing up in Burlington, ON, Whitewater kayaking and his transition to living the dream as an innovator in Stand Up Paddlesurfing on Canada’s west coast. Learn more about Emre, the state of Tofino during the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, SUP Surfing, SWELL Education, Paddle Canada and the Annual West Coast SUP Synposium. The Mike Herrera Podcast #282 Matt Collyer - Lead Vocals & Guitar for the Planet Smashers. The Planet Smashers are a Canadian ska punk band from Montreal. Since their formation in 1994, they have been a staple of the Montreal music scene. During the third wave of ska, they performed nationally and later internationally, with tours in the United States, Europe, and Japan. Founding member Matt Collyer helped establish Stomp Records in 1994, which featured many ska and ska punk bands We had a great conversation about keeping the music fresh after 25 years as a band, their new album, "Too Much Information", his label Stomp Records and that one time (not at band camp) that Matt broke his neck and lived to write a song about it! Enjoy. - Leave a message with your question on the new Mike Herrera Podcast voicemail. (some will be aired on future episodes of the podcast) 360-830-6660 (US number) 3 min limit per message. The real McKenzies are a band known for having a good time.. Even though there's been over 100 members in the band!! Paul McKenzie started the band way back in 1992. The band taps into keltic music and blends it with punk rock. Always something to say, we speak a bit about their new album 'Rats in the Burlap' (Released on Stomp Records in Canada and Fat Wreck-Chords everywhere else). We talk about touring, cars, heart attacks and the basque region of Spain. Thanks Paul & everyone else for the good time in the basement of the Horseshoe Tavern. I've been a fan of Greg Milka Crowe's music since way back in the 1990s when he was the frontman of Winnipeg ska legends Whole Lotta Milka, so we were really excited to have him on the podcast -- especially since he did a live performance at the end of the show. Greg's currently a member of The Scarlet Union, but he's been involved in a ton of other local ska bands, including The Wedgewoods and The Racketeers (briefly). He's also worked as a producer and co-wrote a ska musical that actually hit the stage here in Winnipeg. We talk about that, about meeting Jamaican legends, about the early days of Stomp Records, and more.
