On this episode, after a little unexpected pandemic hiatus, I'm finally back again! And this time it's with a bonus episode featuring something that's a bit off the beaten path for my usual fare: a personal story-time episode of sorts! So, please join me as I fully recount the detailed story about how I got into Doctor Who in the first place -- way back in the dark ages of the 80s as a young geeky teenager! Given that my story has a lot of baby-queer-feels running throughout, I just thought that Pride month would be a great time to finally take the time to get the whole story recorded on my podcast – even though as I'm publishing this, admittedly I'm a few days late after Pride Month ended, all due to some technical issues. Oops! #mercuryretrogradewoes Anyway, grab some popcorn or other snacks and roll up for a big ol' nostalgia trip! Oh, and also please be sure to also stick around for the other stuff on the episode too! There's some administrative chat about the State of the Podcast (and your podcaster) at the beginning before the story, as well as some admittedly pretty disappointed feels about Series 12 afterward (which I kept thankfully short – as to not be too much of a squee-killer). There's also even a little un-cut audio squeeful mini-review bonus (that I did for the 'Discussing Who' podcast) for you to enjoy for some further funsies! All leaving a pretty interesting sandwich of content! And yeah, it's admittedly bit of an emotional roller coaster at times, with the highs of squees and the lows of discontent to navigate, but hopefully you'll all still enjoy it nonetheless! Strap in, it might be a bumpy ride! P.S. Also, there's a poll! I love a poll! Every podcast has that one 'Cursed' Episode and this is mine. Whether it was technical issues, Life Issues, or perhaps even a bit of Mercury Retrograde at work, this episode has been a bit of a challenge to get out. Still, despite all the good, bad, and the ugly, I prevailed and my 'Spyfall' review is finally here for you guys! NOTE: I mention this at the top of the show, but I also wanted to mention here that this episode was actually recorded several weeks ago. So, because of that, some of what I had to say is a bit dated now that we've seen the finale. Still I sincerely hope that you give it a listen anyway, as I talk about MANY OTHER things as well – including my squee over the casting of one of my favorite actors Sacha Dhawan as the newest incarnation of the Master. So, anyway, yes, please join me as I rather belatedly talk (rather extensively) about my thoughts on 'Spyfall'. Hold on to your hats everyone and enjoy the ride!

HANG IN THERE!  But no, on this episode, instead I continue on with my journey through my 'Spark Joy' series – perhaps for the last time for quite a while? -- with a story I love muchly: 'The Girl in the Fireplace'!   Inside, you'll hear me going on and on for AGES (LONGEST. EVER?) -- all just full of squee and passion (I JUST LOVE THIS STORY, OK?!), with a side of (bleeped) cussing, some meta thoughts about things like polyamory and the nature of the Doctor/Companion relationship, tons and tons of frothing shippiness, and, admittedly, some not-so-nice feels about Rose Tyler thrown in here and there for good measure (sorry in advance!).  So, anyway, hold onto your hats, everyone, and enjoy the ride! So, this admittedly might not be the episode you were expecting from me right now – though I can assure you that me chatting about my 'Spyfall' feels is coming soon! EPISODE. I'm so glad to have you all aboard – yet again! -- on this Love Train! #choochoo

So, on this episode, I continue my journey through my 'Spark Joy' series with a little story that gives me so much happiness: 'K-9 and Company'! Well, if you count me going on quite a bit about the goddess Hekate, witchcraft, retro swingers, my love of a silly robot dog, and squee about past companions returning – then, yes, definitely a big ole party of squeeful geekiness to behold! On this episode, I continue my happy foray into my new Falling-in-Love-with-Doctor-Who-Again series  -- again called "Spark Joy," because I'm a dork – with a very squeeful and, honestly, a little bit vulnerable review of my favorite Twelfth Doctor story, "Heaven Sent". Oh, and, in addition to all of that loquacious squee for "Heaven Sent," there's also even more squee within my Happy Fandom Time segment with mentions of a new podcast guest spot, some new Doctor Who things I've bought recently that I loving, but especially lots of squee, in particular, in the case of some long and juicy listener feedback that I start to tackle (but couldn't finish answering this time round, sadly, because apparently I talk way too much. #homegirlyounevershutup). On this episode, I start my foray into my new Falling-in-Love-with-Doctor-Who-Again series  -- called 'Spark Joy', because I'm a dork – with a squeeful review of my favorite new series story, "Amy's Choice". Now, to be honest, I didn't really have a clue how truly controversial this episode was until I heard the new-ish Verity! Podcast episode chatting about it very recently. And unfortunately, I'd already recorded my own episode at that point when I did hear theirs (I was taking a break from editing it to check it out, in fact), so I couldn't/didn't really talk about or address their particular impressions here in mine – though I did make a comment or two on their blog post for the episode. But anyway, because of that, obviously this episode is just my own personal feelings on the story, untainted by Other Fandom Feels and as different as they apparently might be for other people! And also in the spirit of my joy about the diversity of opinion in our fandom, I'll definitely plonk a link to the Verity! episode below in my show notes, if you're interested in hearing some contrasting opinions on things. #yayfandomdiversity Anyway, aside from my massive squee about 'Amy's Choice', also included in this episode is some squee about conventions (both my recent visit to Wholanta 2019, as well as some exciting guests planned for DragonCon 2019), some squee about other podcasts (as I'm often wont to do), and some squee about listener feedback. And so yeah, this is overall a pretty squeeful episode! So, hold onto your hats, everyone, and enjoy the ride! First off, quick production note: For whatever reason, I kept calling Malorie Blackman “Marjorie Blackman” in my review. And I have no idea why. I might’ve just been nervous from not having recorded in so long. Or I might’ve been struggling with having less notes in front of me than I usually do. I’m not sure. Either way, I deeply apologize for getting her name wrong. How embarrassing! Anyway, aside from all that, this is honestly a difficult episode for me to publish. As I stated in my ‘State of the Podcast’ blog post, I try my very best to keep things on my show (mostly) positive and try to look for the best in the show. But, at the end of the day, I also have to be honest about my reactions and so, after a lot of soul searching, I made this episode chatting about my feelings in regards to Series 11. And, yes, many of those feelings are negative. So, if that’s something you’re avoiding, being that my intention is to not kill people’s squee, this might possibly be an episode to skip. I do hope you give it a listen, though. I did my best to frame my criticisms as fairly as I could and also tried my best not to devolve into just mindless ranting. Also, on a positive note, I discuss what is on the horizon for my show, with a series where I’m going to be rejuvenating the podcast by indulging in far more positive chats about my favorite show. Yes, this is likely not the podcast episode that you're looking for. Fear not, though, as I do plan to review the episodes of Series 11 with Jodie, it's just that I'd planned to release this right before the new series started airing, but life intervened. Still, despite the awkward timing, I worked hard on it, so I still wanted to go ahead get it out. Now, the subject matter is admittedly a bit dated as the con I'm discussing happened a few months back, but I had hoped to use this as basically a practice episode to get back into the swing of things. So, anyway, I hope you will all join me for some reminiscing about my time at this year's Wholanta convention, as well as some bonus Happy Fandom Time squee and a mini, non-spoiler-y chat about David Tennant's film, 'Bad Samaritan'.   And here's a bonus episode for all of you -- all just a wee little diversion from my previously scheduled review episode (which I'm getting back to very soon!), full of my belated thoughts on Jodie Whittaker and her recent casting as the Thirteenth Doctor. So, please join me as I discuss Jodie herself, as well as Chris Chibnall's soon-to-be stewardship of the show, finally having a female Doctor in our midst (at least as far as the TV show is concerned!), fandom's myriad reactions to the casting news, lots of gender stuff, and, finally, just my own reaction to the news. And as I said, this is basically a 'mini'-style episode, but again, as with previous 'mini episodes', its admittedly not particularly short in length (yes, despite the diminutive name status!) It's just how I currently differentiate such episodes from the 'regular' episodes, especially when taking a break from the regularly scheduled program. But that's all inside baseball. Or something. Oh, and also from a production standpoint, this episode admittedly took a few weeks to edit with all my own recent Life Stuff slowing things down, so some things mentioned may be a bit dated here and here, but it's all good. I doubt it will impact anything, really! I'm back! Yes, another (unexpected) hiatus down and here I am again! Yeah, as I say in my introduction, I've been really behind on podcasting these last few months due to dealing with some fairly heavy medical stuff, but, despite all that, I'm hoping to get back on the saddle and really determined to get this podcast whipped back into shape. So, in the spirit of all of that, in this return episode, you'll find my belated review for the last Christmas special, 'The Return of Doctor Mysterio'. I just really wanted to get that one covered before my foray into S10 of the new series, so that I could feel 'caught up', per se. Now, I had honestly also hoped this episode would be out before the new Doctor Who episode aired (and recorded it before then, as you'll be able to tell when I talk about it coming up), but pesky technical issues and Life Stuff slowed things down a few days, so it is a teeny bit late (speaking of which, I had to use a temporary different recording set-up, so there were a few teeny sound issues, but probably not enough for anyone to really notice). Oh well. Anyway, again in this episode is my long overdue review of the Christmas special, as well as talk about anything from my squee about the return of Rona Munro and the Mondasian Cybermen from the Classic series, to the upcoming Atlanta Doctor Who convention Wholanta, to Bill being our first incontrovertibly gay companion on the televised series (so, yeah, not including my beloved Izzy Sinclair from the DWM comics who was also a lesbian, of course), to my great love of the superhero and comics genre, to Nice Guys (tm) and Sexy Lamps, etc. So, yeah, I hope you all will join me for my review and episode discussion. And, as always, glad to have you all aboard. Enjoy the ride! We are returned! We are here! And on this episode of 'Terminus', I discuss Leela of the Sevateem's debut story 'The Face of Evil'. All as a continuation, of course, of my ongoing 'Bigger on the Inside' series about some of my favorite companion's first stories. This one is especially happy-making and sentimental for me, by the way, as Leela was actually my very first companion back in the day when I was young. Also on this episode, you'll find some belated recommendations of Spooky Doctor Who stories from both the new and classic series for Halloween fun (I'd honestly hoped to have this out by Halloween, natch, but sadly it was not to be!), excitement about Dalek-related potential social gatherings, musings on the mysterious Janice Thorn, a bit of scratchy sore throat on my end, the Doctor as a Mountain Man, a manipulative and schizophrenic AI playing psychological games, hoarding tests FTW, and quite a bit of a meditation on eugenics. This is probably the longest episode I've ever done, as I just found I had SO MUCH to talk about, so remember that the time stamps below are your friend to help you navigate through everything to make things easier for you. On this episode, my discussion is probably equal parts raves and equal parts rants (I'm not so good at math, but that sounds about right) and overall just A WHOLE LOTTA FEELS. Seriously, this is probably the most shiptastic episode I've ever done (Martha/Doctor is still sort of my OTP), so that shippy aspect could possibly put people off, but, hey, it's how I feel about the episode and Martha's tenure on the show, so I had to just go with it to be authentic. *shrug* Anyway, please won't you join me as I squee about the long-lost 'Doctor Who Confidential' series and also about All Things Martha (because, really, Competency is Sexy!), get nostalgic about the old days of 'Doctor Who' on PBS in North America from my youth, pump my fist in the air for #TeamJulia (it'll make sense once you listen), rant kind of a lot about RTD-style 'Doctor Who' (I know, what a surprise!), and, finally, embarrass myself with a bonus fanmix-song I made ages ago and pulled from the dusty vault of yesteryear in honor of this episode. Coming to you a bit later than I'd planned (bad head cold + some Jessica Jones bingeing is a deadly combination for this podcaster, apparently), here is my episode discussion of the recent Zygon 2-parter. This was definitely one of my more personal episodes and certainly most political (which is admittedly odd to me), but then since the story was very political itself, I suppose it was somewhat hard to avoid? Oh, and this was also recorded before the recent Paris attacks, so any similarities to such discussions are entirely coincidental. In this episode, I discuss identity politics (especially when it comes to Osgood), Zygons in the closet (likely not what you think), the awesomeness that is Jenna Coleman and Peter Capaldi, and revisiting the classic 'Terror of the Zygons'. Also included is some Harry Sullivan love, random music interjections, gratuitous skating references, some podcasting shout-outs, and probably way more than you ever needed to know about how I punch my Queer Card. Also, many coughs were sacrificed to the cutting room floor, but I still managed to come off sounding quite a bit gravely again due to my sore throat. Herein I present a somewhat belated episode, wherein Clara completely steals the show for me, even with her little bit of screen-time in the second part, and, yeah, like a fool I'm just left making grabby hands at the screen for her. And also wherein I randomly have a bit of a go at RTD a few times during the show, which was admittedly not too pretty. I don't know, he just seemed to keep coming up like a bobbing apple or a floating witch (trying to relate things to Halloween with my awkward analogies, yo!) for some reason! I suppose that recording at 6:00 AM after being up all night brings out my...punch-drunk and ranting side, apparently? You've been warned! Also, there's some bonus chat about polytheism, polyamory, and various other p-words, which, as I was trying a new mic set-up this time around, things all went a bit pear-shaped (another p-word!) and the plosive fixes were unfortunately needed in force, as well as a few other various technical glitches that managed to double (triple?) my usual editing time. Maybe it was all witch's curse? Sed Libera Nos a Malo! (I've obviously been watching too many Hammer Horror films recently). Anyway, as with this episode, for the next episode I plan on reviewing the Zygon 2-parter together. That episode should hopefully drop by about a week after 'The Zygon Inversion' airs, if all goes to plan. So yeah, you guys subscribing to the Terminus RSS feed on iTunes (or any other fine podcatchers, of course!) might make things a bit easier to follow along, as my schedule has been a bit wonky as of late, as I try to catch up. But of course that's all up to you. So, anyway, I hope you all will join me for my somewhat sloxicated review 'The Girl Who Died' and 'The Woman Who Lived'. So, I'm currently running about a week behind on my releases, so here's a rather belated chat from me about the recent Doctor Who episode 'Before the Flood', all coming at you from somewhere adrift in the Doctor's timeline (forgot to check the helmic regulator for more details than that!) . Yeah, methinks you guys subscribing to the Terminus RSS feed on iTunes (or any other fine podcatchers, of course!) might make things a bit easier to follow along, as my schedule has been a bit wonky as of late, but of course that's all up to you. Oh, and relatedly, since my release dates aren't currently what I hoped for, due to Life Stuff, I'm combining my reviews for both 'The Girl Who Died' and the 'The Woman Who Lived' into ONE episode next time around, just to try to get all caught up and stuff. This may be how I attack future two-parters as well -- we shall see! WHO NOSE! Also, I realized as I edited my somewhat rushed recording for this episode from earlier in the week, that I forgot to rate 'Before the Flood' in my actual podcast content! So, I'll give you this wee little spoiler (Avert your eyes, if need be!): I'm giving it a 4.5 out of 5. Looking back, that is the same score I gave for 'Under the Lake', as well, 0so I guess this two-parter ends up with a nice round score of 4.5 out of 5 for me. Excellent. (Er, I do hope you'll still listen even with knowing my score, though!) So, anyway, I hope you all will join me as I review this super-shippy episode of Doctor Who. Long podcast episode is long. And late. But them's the breaks during a confluence of technical issues and illness, I suppose? Still, it's finally here, nonetheless! Now, full disclosure, this episode was actually recorded before the second part 'Before the Flood'' aired, so obviously some of my speculation and predictions didn't quite turn out to come true, of course, but, hey, some of them did! You can even play Nicole-is-right-or-wrong Bingo, if you'd like -- though I don't have any pre-made Bingo cards for the occasion, unfortunately! A little later than I anticipated -- still getting used to fitting in all the podcast work all by my lonesome! -- but here is my discussion of the S8 opening story, "The Magician's Apprentice"! Of course, how this story is going to end is the grand mystery of the hour, but that's cool, I still found there was more enough to talk about within part one (and what a part one it was!). I'm back to the full-style episode format for now, along with the return of my old friend, Happy Fandom Time (which there is so much to be happy about in the Whoniverse these days -- it was hard to contain myself!). My voice is admittedly still a bit gravelly (though I did take care to edit out any coughs), but I think everything is a-ok. Finally, here's my belated thoughts on Series 8 and the incumbent Twelfth Doctor, which are admittedly -- spoiler! -- a full-on love fest. This was recorded the next day after I recorded my previous episode about the 10th anniversary of New!Who, so I apologize that my voice was still a bit crackly from getting over that sore throat, but I think it sounds basically all right (besides didn't a lot of classic Hollywood sirens have raspy voices? Um... not that I'm a classic Hollywood siren in any sense!). Again, this is a 'mini-episode' of sorts, and again, its admittedly not that short despite the diminutive episode status, but as I said before, I just wanted to have a breather to rework the schedule going forward, so I did this bonus-style episode. After this, Series 9 is starting up and I'm planning on reviewing those stories as they come out and then, gods willing, hopefully this Podcast-Train will no longer be derailed (also, fingers crossed that there's no homicidal ancient soldier-mummy systematically killing everyone on said Podcast-Train, by the way, because that would just be very, very awkward). Choo choo! Anyway, join me on this episode as I gush about series 8 of Doctor Who, including extolling the virtues of PCap's lovely eyebrows and Jenna's smashing flapper dress. IT'S ALIVE! Galvanizing lightning has struck, the stars have aligned, the hecatomb of Daleks sacrificed, and despite recording with a bit of a scratchy-and-sore throat, a new episode is now in the can! It's debatable if it is a 'proper' episode, I suppose, as the format is a bit different from usual, so I've decided to just call it a 'mini-episode' (though admittedly, its not very short or anything). I'm just now trying to get back on the horse and rework the recording schedule going forward, since so much has happened between this episode and the last one. SO MUCH! Either way, I'm back now, giving this another go, with a chat about the 10th Anniversary of the new series and a look back at the episode that started it all, 'Rose'. I also have some new station idents from Andrew Cartmel and Sylvester McCoy to debut as a little bonus, because, well, they make me super-happy! Hoorah! Yes, the newest episode is finally here! So, on this sixth episode of the Terminus podcast (released during the two days I'm actually at home and not traveling during these two weeks!), join me as I chat about some of the more *obscure* Doctor Who spin-offs (and try and not stumble over saying 'BBV' many, many times). This time around I'm focusing on 'P.R.O.B.E.', 'The Stranger', 'The Airzone Solution', and 'Downtime', but never fear, there are more episodes on spin-offs planned for the future! *crickets* Yeah, not sure this episode has much of a target audience! Anyway, I also talk about geeking out with Andrew Cartmel on Twitter, Target books, and 50th Anniversary miscellany (specifically some bits about the BFI screenings and the Master's new anniversary-edition fob watch). Oh, and I'm *almost* back on schedule with scheduled release dates (squeezing in recording and editing between all my recent travel has proved an interesting challenge), so that is made of awesome! Until then, be sure to subscribe to the podcast either on iTunes, Stitcher, or just the RSS feed to keep up with the newest episodes as they're released. On this also-a-bit-late fifth episode of the Terminus podcast, join me as I chat about how I define queer for myself, the Eighth Doctor television movie, thoughts about what we currently know about the Last Great Time War (possibly soon to be Jossed by the upcoming 50th anniversary special!), and the Atlanta-based fan series 'The Forgotten Doctor'. Also I squee (yes, I said squee) about things like Peter Capaldi (likely?) keeping his Scottish accent for his role as the Doctor, Doctor Puppet, the TARDIS on Google Maps, and the Doctor as Mr. Potato Head. Oh, and I thought the last episode was super-long, but this one takes the cake -- wow! I thought about editing it down a bit, but I decided to leave in everything, even if it gets a bit rambly, silly (did I really say 'WTF?' more than once? The things we do to keep it family-friendly), and littered with unfortunate poppy plosives at times. This should hopefully be the last of the late episodes (at least for a while) as I'm getting things back on schedule now. On this super-duper-late fourth episode of the Terminus podcast, join me as I chat about the recent reveal of who will be the next Doctor (on which there's lots of geeking and cheering from me, of course!) and how one of my favorite classic Doctors is coming to a convention near me next year (and I'll hopefully get to meet him for the first time!). Of course, as promised, there's also the main 'In Defense Of' segments, where I come to the defense of several characters and other bits of fandom I think are often ridiculed unfairly. Admittedly, I sadly didn't have the nicest things to say about Rose Tyler a few times in the episode and while I know she's a bit of a sacred cow in fandom, I feel that many of the characters I talked about were often sacrificed at her altar and put up against her in comparison by the show. So, I argue how those comparisons failed for me. I'm honestly hoping I don't lose any listeners over that, because I know YMMV and everyone gets something different out of different characters, but at the same time, I had to be honest with my opinions. Anyway, this is the longest episode I've done so far, which probably made the timing of it even worse as its running so late due to Life Stuff (I sincerely hope to be back on schedule going forward though). So, anyway, enjoy the ride -- its a bumpy one this month!
