Sean Patrick Small on his role as Larry Bird in HBO's 'Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty'

Sean Patrick Small recently joined host Elias in the cave! Sean Patrick Small stars as legendary basketball player Larry Bird in the HBO series 'Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.' To say he was destined to play the role would be an understatement, and not just because he looks just like the man widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Sean is a basketball superfan who has played the sport from high school through college and into adulthood. As an aspiring actor and writer, Sean decided in college that the best way to pursue both careers was to write a script and try to secure roles both in front of and behind the camera. That script was a miniseries about Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, based on a favorite book Sean read in college called 'When March Went Mad,' by Seth Davis. Sean optioned the book, which captures the early life trials and tribulations of these would-be superstars. His script traces the beginning of their storied rivalry, culminating in the most watched basketball event of all time – the 1979 NCAA championship game. While shopping his script around, and after securing Emmy Award-winning director Thomas Carter to helm the show, Sean learned that HBO Max was doing their own series about the Lakers. 'Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty' chronicles the rise of the team's success in the 1980s, beginning close to where Sean's script left off. When Bo Burnham, cast as Larry Bird, had to drop out of the project, Sean was able to get in front of their casting team through his representatives. A week later, he landed the role he always wanted to play, and began filming shortly after. You can watch this interview on YouTube https://youtu.be/AVthJZZXFck Have a question? The Streaming War has never been bigger than it is right now, with decisions being made daily concerning the release date and release format of nearly every single movie. Disney has announced that all remaining 2021 projects will be released exclusively in theaters, but what does that mean for other studios? Did Shang-Chi being released exclusively in theaters help it secure a Labor Day Weekend Box Office record? Or was Black Widow's day-and-date rollout more beneficial in the long term? Thomas Carter Rochester of Lights, Thunder, Action podcast joins the show to take a deep dive into this very present issue the entertainment industry is tackling. We're heading back to high school, so remember to Save The Last Dance! We discuss the quality of the ballet performances, dance doubles, hip-hop, Julia Stiles' acting, Kerry Washington's charisma, a surprising divergence into 10 year old Indy's love of Onyx. Just in case you thought we could just enjoy this teen movie without getting into white privilege and cultural appropriation, you'd be wrong. Also, turns out Malakai is a biblical name.   Save the Last Dance is a 2001 American teen dance film produced by MTV Productions, directed by Thomas Carter and released by Paramount Pictures on January 12, 2001. The film stars Julia Stiles and Sean Patrick Thomas as a teenage interracial couple in Chicago who work together to help the character played by Stiles, train for a dance audition. A direct-to-video sequel, Save the Last Dance 2, was released in 2006. We are a member of the Alberta Podcast Network, find other great Albertan podcasts at: https://www.albertapodcastnetwork.com/

Anne died in 1789 in Westmoreland County, Virginia and appears in numerous family trees and authored works as the wife of Thomas Carter. Her maiden name was given variously as Neale, Hunter, or Claytor. Kimball noticed some discrepancies in the research about Anne and spent years researching colonial Virginia records to discover the truth about her spouse and origin, finally determining that she was not married to Thomas Carter.

Finally, winemaker Marco Caprai joins the program to talk about the revitalization of the Sagrantino grape. “Yeast in bread is like yeast in wine… The harder the yeast has to work, the more flavor you’re going to get.” [11:50] — Susan Reid on Food Talk with Michael Colameco “Not to disparage the great wines from California, but a wine of that weight will crush brighter styles of food.” [25:45] — Thomas Carter on Food Talk with Michael Colameco
