"Too Sense" on MLB finally paying for Minor League Housing: I have a lot of energy today after the Dodgers came back and won the other night but we still have more baseball to play... My big topic today is the fact the the always slow moving, Major League Baseball, has decided to start paying for housing accommodations for minor leaguers while in season. This is a huge move as it has become well documented that minor leaguers make less than minimum wage to play "professional baseball". For reference, most guys make less than $14,000 per year in total. They are asked to perform at a high level almost every night for 6 months and are treated like crap. This is at least a step in the right direction... Next up, better pay, food and travel perks and you might get some more high performers that mentally want to keep chasing that dream. Refer back to my episode with Jeremy Wolf, who founded More Than Baseball. Jeremy and his team formed a non profit, helping struggling minor leaguers through life. INTERVIEW: Chris Caulk + Former Walk-On Wide Receiver at USC Chris has the most indirect way of playing Division 1 football. He decided mid way through high school that he was going to give up baseball and shoot for the stars to play football in college... That dream was cut short even before he played a high school game as the knee injuries piled up. He spent a few years bouncing a round junior colleges until finally getting the call to play at USC, his dream school. Although he never played for the Trojans, he had an incredible experience there and we discuss what it was like to play for Clay Helton. We also dive into where he thinks the programs needs to go now and which quarterbacks threw the best ball... He's on his way to becoming an entertainment star, so follow his journey below. He played baseball at Iowa St. and made the last out at their home stadium as the baseball program was cut shortly after... Matt spent some years in minor league baseball before jumping into communications with the Pirates. After a 5 year run there, he made a huge "left turn" (pun intended) to switch sports careers over to NASCAR corporate. He has now been there for 10 years and loves it! Well, it turned out that no one was lining up for him to sign the $120 million contract that he thought he was worth... Dennis recently signed for a measly 1 year deal, worth $5.9 Million. Some of the cool connections I've made in my career, have been the people that are within baseball but never played on the field with me. My guest today, Andy "Bull" Barch, was the play-by-play announcer for the West Virginia Power when I played there in 2009. He and I have always had a good relationship on and off the field so I decided to have him bring his years behind the mic, on the Too Tall Sports Podcast.Bull is originally from Cleveland and moved back there over the past few years. We discuss his years as a miserable Cleveland sports fan. The Browns, Indians and Cavaliers heart breaks, until the 2016 NBA Title. He spent his college years at Bowling Green University and eventually did play-by-play in the minor leagues after he graduated in the early 2000's.We discuss restructuring in the minor leagues and he has some interesting takes on how it may have been necessary although frowned upon by the public.The biggest fan of the West Virginia Power is this character who calls himself "The Toast Man". Bull has some great stories about his super fandom and how he used to roast and toast players during the homes games... This is probably the most REAL and RAW interview I've had on the Too Tall Sports Podcast so far. Rashad McCants, was a McDonald's High School All American and a stand out player at UNC. He and some notable teammates won the national championship in the 2005 March Madness tournament beating Illinois in the title game.He is a former NBA player for the Minnesota Timberwolves and was drafted 14th overall in the 1st round of the 2005 NBA Draft. He spent 4 years there before heading overseas to continue his basketball career. He then came back to play in Ice Cube's 3 on 3 league called the "BIG 3". He was the #1 pick in 2017 of that league and his team, Trilogy, ended up winning the championship that year as well.Rashad found himself in some hot water after some accused him of whistleblowing about the academic fraud that was happening his school, the University of North Carolina. He was the only one to tell the truth about the lack of institutional control that occurred there along with many other universities. He wrote a book called "Plantation Education - The Exploitation of the Modern-Day Athlete-Student". He makes some compelling points about how the system was broken and still is to this day.
