In this 'Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week' special, I speak to Laura Bisbey, who was diagnosed with perinatal distress and anxiety during her pregnancy. This sadly continued following the birth of her daughter. I chat to Nick Raeburn, aka 'That Social Nerd'. Nick came to my attention in a very brave and raw LinkedIn post, where he talked about the huge flood of emotion he experienced in becoming a dad. Following on from our ridiculous 'reel'... in this second episode, we explore the social media trend labelling ADHD a superpower. We discuss both for and against; what our ADHD Superpower would be, and the cost it comes with. We further explore the idea of trends by addressing the skin-crawling notion that ADHD is a 'cool trend', whilst also celebrating the fact that the disorder, and in particular how it can present in females is getting much-needed exposure. Going forward we plan to reduce the length of each episode, now that we have finally got to grips with the software! LOL! From episode 3 we hope they will be shorter, punchier, and not include the word absolutely an ABSOLUTELY offensive amount of times! :) We conclude with our regular segments: The most ADHD thing we've done this week, and 'Differences' - to highlight how this complex condition is not a one size fits all model. This week we talk about how mobile phones and communication trigger our ADHD in totally different ways, a subject we will deep dive into in a later episode. *TRIGGER WARNING*Brief mentions of disordered eating, family bereavement, and relationship struggles....and we accidentally do a few swears too, soz.

Hello, oatmeal cream pies! Ugh, wow, truly can't believe that the Summer Short Series is over. That, in itself, feels absurd and like a thing that should not be true, but alas. Luckily, however, we are closing the Summer Short Series with a B A N G! Persepolis did something to us because we'll be closing out the summer with another memoir--this one being called All Boys Aren't Blue by George M. Johnson! So sit back and enjoy as we discuss the intersection of being Black and queer, the best time to write a memoir, alternative versions of masculinity, and, of course, honey child (that'll make sense, we promise)! In honour of Eating Disorder Awareness Week, I'm dedicating 2 bonus episodes on the podcast to 2 amazing women who are sharing their stories of recovery and empowerment. Trigger Warning: Brief mention of sexual assault (but no explicit details shared) and eating disorders. In Bonus ep 1, I bring on my past client and friend Cheryl Botas, to share her story of growing up with body dysmorphia and bulimia that was driven by low self-esteem, anxiety and trauma. She shares her battle and RECOVERY. We also discuss how our culture often revolves around the fetishization of bodies, health and diets, which directly impacts the collective unconscious. This opens us up to disordered eating, which can then trigger a full blown eating disorder. We talk about how the media back when we were kids negatively impacted our views on not only what we should value, but also how we define our worth as a person. It was heavily based around appearance and how much we weighed. Despite what we're told, we still all grow up in a world that validates our insecurities by affirming often times unmeetable beauty standards... Tune in to hear how Cheryl not only overcame her eating disorder, but also how she continues to fight to accept and love herself every damn day. To further kick off this year, we are with our very first international guest who is a domestic adoptee from the UK. He is also an adoption coach; you can find a link to his website below. In this episode, Simon shares how his teddy bear pivoted him in a new direction. He shares what he has learned over fourteen years of learning about adoption and what he can do now. It's time for our analysis of the show Super Wings on Netflix! The premise of this show is so loopy that we had to dedicate an entire episode just to dissecting it. Questions to consider for this episode: Can it be called a transformation if an airplane robot merely grows arms and legs? At what point can something legitimately be called "educational"? Why did this show include a mail delivery element at all when they could have stopped at superhero airplanes? Baby Ari offers his thoughts in the form of several burps and sneezes. What if the answer isn't choosing where to live, but rather choosing to live nowhere? Gaby speaks to Rachel Wilson and Natalie Frizza, two members of Australia's nomad community -- people who have chosen to live and raise kids in converted campers, vans and buses. Gaby explores what that daily life looks like, the cost of living and who tends to be able to experience that lifestyle. (Hint: White people, mostly.) Then, she talks to Melody Warnick, author of This Is Where You Belong: Finding Home Wherever You Are about the concept of “home.” Trigger Warning: Brief misophonia around 31 minutes in. (Sorry!
