Kevin Pryseski has been in the golf business since he was in high school and is now preparing for retirement. When you start your career in the transition zone of the mid-Atlantic states you can grow grass anywhere. After several years in the Baltimore Maryland market, Kevin picked up and moved 3000 miles away to northern California and has spent the past 20+ years at two courses north of San Francisco. We talk as two old friends sharing stories of the days in Maryland, our interest in wine and food and what the future looks like after a long and successful career as a golf course superintendent. In 2006 his golf course, Marin Country Club, joined forces with Troon Golf and he talks about what the transition felt like moving from a private club to an upscale management company. We talked about the changing environment and the impact on the day to day operation. When asked if he uses any fungicides in California like he did in Maryland, he said I hadn't until recently but in the past few years nighttime temperatures are rising and disease issues are becoming problematic and he has had to have fungicides on his shelf again. As he ends his career he is preparing for the next chapter in his life and hasn't ruled out the idea of working part time on a golf course close to his new home! In this episode, Steve Loesher, PGA, Director of Player Development for Troon Golf discusses the three main qualities he believes all golf instructors need to have in order to be successful in their golf instruction business. First, Steve takes us back down his path to becoming a Director of Player Development, which began as an Assistant professional. Steve transitioned into the instruction/coaching world when he began coaching the George Mason Men's Golf Team while working at the local country club. Steve then transitioned into the Director of Instruction role for the Nike Golf Learning Center which was the beginning of him finding his niche of helping facilities, academies, and golf operations develop and expand their instructional programming benefiting the overall operation of the facility. Steve's development in his profession continued onward and upward into the role of Director of Player Development for a golf management company, Billy Casper Golf which, which had 18 clubs under its umbrella. In 2016 Steve was awarded the 2016 Middle Atlantic PGA Player Development Award and continued expanding his portfolio and deveoping some of the top instructors around the country including Erika Larkin, Cathy Kim, Marissa Crow, and Adam Harrell. With Troon Golf purchasing Billy Casper Golf in 2021, Steve is now the Director of Player Development for Troon Golf where he continues to flourish in helping instructors under the Troon Golf umbrella begin, develop, and expand their current instructional operations, uniquely to their location and allotted resources. @steveloesherpgaContact Coach Mo@coachmogolfprowww.coachmogolfpro.commgesualdi@stjohnsgolf.comThe Golf Academy at St. Johns Located at St. Johns Golf & CC in St. Augustine/St. Johns, FL@thegolfacademy_st.johnswww.stjohnsgolf.com

“I think those pain points in all areas of golf are tremendous opportunities to rethink the industry in many exciting ways" To kick off Season 6 our host Colin Weston speaks to Professor Renée Mauborgne, co-author of the best-selling business books Blue Ocean Strategy and Blue Ocean Shift. Renée provides a masterclass on how golf industry businesses and organizations can capture new demand, find new customers and make the competition irrelevant. https://files.fireside.fm/file/fireside-uploads/images/1/1ea879c1-a4a2-4e10-bea4-e5d8368a3c7a/X7wcIstN.jpg On this episode Renée and Colin cover a wide range of golf industry topics including: • How non-golf oganizations like Cirque de Soleil, Airbnb and Apple have applied Blue Ocean Strategy to their success. • How you can shift your organization from competing to creating with tools and a framework in a risk-minimizing way. • If you want to create a blue ocean, you can’t look at what people are doing in your competitive set. You need to look outside to understand how to shift what you do to creat new value. To learn more about how Blue Ocean Strategy has unlocked new growth in the golf industry, read Colin's blog post "Turning Green Fairways Into Blue Oceans (https://www.blueoceanstrategy.com/blog/turning-green-fairways-into-blue-oceans/)". https://files.fireside.fm/file/fireside-uploads/images/1/1ea879c1-a4a2-4e10-bea4-e5d8368a3c7a/jDH9SdbW.jpg Renée speaks about how successful companies have created new products/services/experiences that appeal to the ocean of "non-customers" that both Topgolf and Cirque de Soleil have captured. Rather than competing over the existing customers your industry fights over, Blue Ocean Strategy allows you to attact a much bigger audience found in the "Three tiers of non-customers". https://files.fireside.fm/file/fireside-uploads/images/1/1ea879c1-a4a2-4e10-bea4-e5d8368a3c7a/xzAuVD8-.jpg https://files.fireside.fm/file/fireside-uploads/images/1/1ea879c1-a4a2-4e10-bea4-e5d8368a3c7a/ARuQ4KxZ.jpg https://files.fireside.fm/file/fireside-uploads/images/1/1ea879c1-a4a2-4e10-bea4-e5d8368a3c7a/l4okoX8c.jpg To learn more about Blue Ocean Strategy, visit their website at https://www.blueoceanstrategy.com/ https://files.fireside.fm/file/fireside-uploads/images/1/1ea879c1-a4a2-4e10-bea4-e5d8368a3c7a/Y-1ouf4M.jpg (https://www.blueoceanstrategy.com/) Special Guest: Renée Mauborgne - Co-author of Blue Ocean Strategy and Blue Ocean Shift.

The private club model is changing. In the past, exclusivity and privacy was highly touted. Nowadays, younger generations don't look nearly as favorably on these kinds of policies and clubs in general - of course there are elite exceptions. Most golf courses are working harder and harder to attract and retain membership. KPI Golf's 85/50 Membership Program was developed by John Brown through his work with Troon Golf and as he build his prior golf course management company - Brown Golf Management. In this podcast, John outlines the key components to deploying this proven successful recruitment strategy. The 85/50 program is about engaging your newest members to become your most important evangelists for the club. The sooner you can engage these members in the recruiting process, the more likely you are to succeed. By creating a structure where new members are encouraged to invite their friends to experience the club, close rates are greatly increased. It's play on social proofand the natural inclination for people to justify the decisionthey made to join the club. It works. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/golf-essentials/message

"I often get frustrated going to the different conferences, talking to people about what’s wrong with golf and how to grow the game. The problem is they start thinking like golfers and can’t get out of their own way." Rather than just talk about the problem of how to deliver a more engaging golf experience that appeals to a wider audience, Steve Rosen - who is the General Manager of Indian Wells Golf Resort (https://www.indianwellsgolfresort.com/) - did something about it. And that something is the immersive, multi-sensory experience they call "Shots In The Night". window.dojoRequire(["mojo/signup-forms/Loader"], function(L) { L.start({"baseUrl":"mc.us19.list-manage.com","uuid":"fb1db86bf86e67d377747be70","lid":"2e2f634e4c","uniqueMethods":true}) }) Season 5 Sponsors https://uploads.fireside.fm/images/1/1ea879c1-a4a2-4e10-bea4-e5d8368a3c7a/3QqeEFBq.jpg What is Shots In The Night? Indian Wells Golf Resort - a 36 hole golf property with a 53,000 sq. ft. clubhouse - is owned by the City of Indian Wells and operated by Troon Golf (https://www.troon.com/about-troon/). Troon realized that to create additional value they had to become more entrepreneurial and deliver a different golf experience that would appeal to a different customer. After Steve Rosen met Nextlinks founder Dave Shultz in 2016, he realized they had found their technology partner that could deliver an unexpected, compelling, gamified and fun golf experience that first time golfers right up to professional level players would love. Lights, music, laser projections, lit targets, glow in the dark golf balls, food trucks and drinks overlayed on both the existing putting green and 12 hitting bay driving range are the mix of ingredients that successfully create Shots In The Night. https://uploads.fireside.fm/images/1/1ea879c1-a4a2-4e10-bea4-e5d8368a3c7a/9_FRUuXZ.jpg You can listen to our engaging episode with Nextlinks Founder Dave Shultz to learn about their technology solutions that transform the golf entertainment experience by clicking here (https://modgolf.fireside.fm/15-dave-shultz). https://uploads.fireside.fm/images/1/1ea879c1-a4a2-4e10-bea4-e5d8368a3c7a/jFbRdEkU.jpg (https://modgolf.fireside.fm/15-dave-shultz) Images from Shots In The Night https://uploads.fireside.fm/images/1/1ea879c1-a4a2-4e10-bea4-e5d8368a3c7a/L6JJvugQ.jpg https://uploads.fireside.fm/images/1/1ea879c1-a4a2-4e10-bea4-e5d8368a3c7a/QN4pKUN0.jpg https://uploads.fireside.fm/images/1/1ea879c1-a4a2-4e10-bea4-e5d8368a3c7a/srDlYTkQ.jpg https://uploads.fireside.fm/images/1/1ea879c1-a4a2-4e10-bea4-e5d8368a3c7a/TLFg4p3f.png Special Guest: Steven Rosen - General Manager, Indian Wells Golf Resort / Troon Golf.
