This podcast is brought to you in conjunction with Retail Council of Canada. The COVID era has brought with it many changes in consumer behaviour   - and plenty of questions amongst retailers as to what patterns will stick.   We are all also trying to understand how consumers view brands in the modern, post-COVID (ish) era and how broader political, social trends and economics impact brand respect, regard and recognition. My guest on this episode to help answer some of these questions is Dr. Saul Klein, Dean of the University of Victoria Gustavson business school. Saul takes us through the eighth annual 2022 Gustavson Brand Trust Index in a fascinating interview that merges research and decades of thoughtful analysis.   The index reveals that Canadian consumers are more distrusting of dominant technology brands than ever before, and reveals the top performers in the Canadian retail landscape and what powerful attributes drive categories of retail and retail brands to the top of the list. You can review the results of the index here..Thanks for tuning into this special episode of The Voice of Retail.  If you haven't already, be sure and click subscribe on your favourite podcast platform so new episodes will land automatically twice a week, and check out my other retail industry media properties; the Remarkable Retail podcast, the Conversations with CommerceNext podcast, and the Food Professor podcast.  Last but not least, if you are into BBQ, check out my all new YouTube barbecue show, Last Request Barbeque, with new episodes each and every week! I'm your host Michael LeBlanc, President of M.E. ResourcesTrust Index ReportDeadly SpinUncoveredTakeawaysThe lay of the land Health plans historically integrated horizontally but now are integrating vertically, expanding their power within the healthcare industry.Growing payor reach and control creates a power imbalance that allows payors to force providers into minuscule reimbursement rates. This power imbalance works to the detriment of healthcare consumers.Trust Index results reach rock bottom For the last 12 years, ReviveHealth has published an annual Trust Index report which measures the level of trust between payors and providers based on honesty, reliability, and fairness. The Index represents 40% of the hospitals in America. This episode of The No Normal Show examines this year's results featuring health plan executive turned whistleblower, Wendell Potter. We thought that COVID-19 would rally the entire healthcare industry to solve problems together for the common good. Instead, the Index showed the greatest decline in trust in the past 12 years – a 34% decrease year over year.Uncovering the factors at play Health plans influence policy and the public through massive and expensive lobbying campaigns. This practice shifts blame for exorbitant healthcare costs to providers.Health plans unilaterally alter language in provider manuals that fundamentally reduce how much they reimburse providers for care.Health plans are accountable to shareholders, which means that their core objective is to turn a profit and lower utilization costs.Health plans are increasingly denying claims or requesting retroactive analysis with little explanation while also increasing prior authorization requirements and out-of-pocket costs. This delays treatment and increases costs for providers.

India is among the most trusted nations globally when it comes to government, business, NGOs and media but the country’s brands are among the least-trusted, according to a report. The 2019 Edelman Trust Barometer report was released on Monday ahead of the World Economic Forum (WEF) meet. China topped the Trust Index among both the informed public and the general population segments, with scores of 79 and 88 respectively. India was at the second place in the informed public category and third place in the general population category. The Index is the average per cent of trust in NGOs, business, government and media. The findings are based on an online survey in 27 markets covering over 33,000 respondents. The fieldwork was conducted between October 19 and November 16, 2018. In terms of trust in companies, those headquartered in India, Mexico and Brazil are the least trusted, as per the report. Guest - Alok Verma, Editor-in-Chief, NYOOOZ, A.K. Trust, it is that special something that builds relationships and lasting bonds. Trust can never be bought. It has to be earned. In fact, it takes a life-time to build and just a split second to squander away. Chris Butler was right when he said “Trust is earned when actions meet words”. Who we are and how we act are instrumental in our authenticity. Without authenticity, there is no trust. Being open and honest with factual information no matter how hard the truth is to swallow is also important in building trust. There is no trust without transparency. We live in a time in the US where no one trust anyone or anything and this distrust is eroding our public trust, trust in institutions, trust in civil society and trust in fellow citizens. The whole Pod is back together, but so many things happened this week that the episode went far deeper than basketball. It started completely off the rails with reactions on Connor Lamb "trumping" Rick Saccone in PA-18's special election, along with some other notable stories in the political stratosphere. We got slightly back on track with this week's best (college) basketball story: #16 UMBC defeating #1 UVA. Kyle Wood (#CousinKyle #ProudRetriever) joined the program to provide insight on what it was like to watch his relatively unknown alma mater become Cinderella. When The Pod finally got around to NBA basketball, it discussed DeMar Derozan's, Kevin Love's, and Kelly Oubre, Jr.'s recent admissions to dealing with anxiety and depression as professional athletes, and reacted to Kobe Bryant's Oscar in the context of the #MeToo/#TimesUp Movement. The show wrapped up with the best of basketball internet, covered some high quality data, dove deep into the mailbag, and returned to the Trust Index.    ***This episode was sponsored by Tommy Turnover #MendingFences #WhatDoesntKillUsMakesUsStronger #NeverForget #VinoPod*** OFFICIAL SHOTTAKES SPONSORSHIP: The William & Mary Public Service Fund is hosting its annual Student-Faculty Basketball Game on Friday, March 24 at 4:30pm at the Walshingham Academy.
