Wendy is back from hauling robots to Texas and getting ready to drive another one to California, so the crew leans hard into life on the road with Linux. Bill talks about moving his systems over to Bazzite, tells the story of an overworked NVIDIA 1080 that literally ate into another GPU, and explains how HomeBridge 2.0 keeps his smart‑home world humming. Nate shares his first impressions of Tux Manager, a Linux clone of the classic Windows Task Manager, and walks through the Framework‑plus‑Flip‑Go combo that makes his roaming setup feel like CubicleLabs away from home. From Steam Decks and One X Players to UniFi travel routers and noise‑canceling headphones, everyone opens their travel bags and talks about the gear they actually trust when Wi‑Fi is sketchy and power outlets are rare. Wendy also geeks out over her new MOVA V50 robot vacuum, complete with a dedicated “Sentinels” Wi‑Fi SSID, and how little self‑hosted comforts make a hotel room feel just a bit more like a homelab. Along the way, there are jokes about Ethernet‑cable hair, data having weight, and why the best layover is the one where your SSH tunnel actually connects. If you're curious about the recent Linux vulnerabilities and the ABCs of CVEs, don't miss SUDO Show 76, where they break it all down in a fun and informative way. Updates From The Road, Traveling In Waterloo, NY:Founder and host, Scott Mulvaney, discusses his business and personal life from his hotel in Waterloo, New York. He explains his role as a manufacturer's representative, focusing on the HVAC industry, and his primary income streams, including Fuel Enterprises vs Fuel Foundations, a nonprofit that supports Wildland Firefighters through the Boots Refuel Fund. Scott details his travel schedule, emphasizing the importance of work-life balance and his commitment to financial freedom. He also shares his passion for learning, particularly in technology, and his plans to record his book "So You Want To Be A Hotshot" as an audio book. Scott highlights the significance of building professional relationships and the impact of his nonprofit work for firefighters. Today's Guest Co-Host Links:FuelUpMarketing.comFUELFoundations.orgHotshotBook.com Mentioned Influencers:UI.com Watch on YouTube:https://youtu.be/jZYHYW-oNkQ Timestamped Show Note:29:10 – Final Words Our Final Words of the Show:I hope that those you've all listened to this episode, you've taken some, maybe a small piece of my weirdo, crazy motivation and inspiration to bring new things into your own life or your family's life, to keep yourself driven, motivated and/or just busy. All right, the more things you do with these, these your two hands, using your brain, your eyes, and your ears, the better. Yes, I'm talking about not plugged in on social media and the Drama Fest of the Negative News Networks. Stay unplugged because you get so much more done and so much more achieved in your life, and especially over the past year or two for me, it's been crazy. So I am constantly finding ways to push that negative content out of my life. You and I will always have it, it's just not worth it. Allow that incoming bandwidth, to speak in internet terms, that incoming bandwidth of positive content, and if that means you have to generate it, meaning getting outside, playing with your dog, spending time with your wife, becoming a geek about barn remodeling and home internet security infrastructure, whatever is going to motivate you, whatever is going to get you to the next level of success in life. The only way to get there is to unplug from the distractions and plug yourself into the things that are going to get you there. Then, along that path, add in random things that some people would consider a distraction, but for me, it's stimulating. It's stimulating my brain, right? It's stimulating new synaptic pathways, new learning patterns, new things that create conversation that might pop up. I'm learning about all that security system stuff from Ubiquiti for their UniFi platform, I ended up geeking out one of the executives from this distribution company that was having issues because they use it in their businesses and their branch locations. So I never expected that connection to happen, but because I chose to try and learn something new, all of a sudden, I know enough that I can actually hold the conversation. Who knows where that could go. So that's what I'll leave you guys with as a reminder, the show's not going away. I've promised to break 500 episodes for the past probably year and a half. I know the last couple episodes I hinted about finally recording my book that I put out, So You Want To Be A Hotshot, as a reminder, all proceeds from that on Amazon go to the charity as well, besides my income. So you can find that on Amazon. You can also find it from our website via FuelFoundations.org on the Hotshot Book page. Hotshotbook.com that URL will take you directly to the Amazon listing too. But I need to finally get the audio book done, so that's where the podcast comes in. I'm going to record each chapter and release them as digital content in the podcast world separately, because I just I need to sit down and record them anyway. So why not do that as extra motivation for new content in the podcast? Because there are some of you out there that might not sit back and listen to an audio book or sit down and read the book, but it is a story about the transformation from me serving as a hot shot wildland firefighter. The lessons learned from that, and now fast forward all these years later. Why I really still care about it and want to give back, you know, with my foundation and buying boots for wildland firefighters, etc. So anyway, thanks for tuning in, ladies and gentlemen, remember you too, can LIVE THE FUEL! We'll talk to you guys again soon.

Short-term rental hosts are waking up to a hard truth: Airbnb and Vrbo bring the bookings, but they keep the guest relationship. In this episode, we sit down with StayFi founder Arthur Colker to unpack how Wi-Fi-based guest data collection can help hosts and property managers build their own brands, drive more direct bookings, and reduce reliance on OTAs. Arthur shares the origin story of StayFi, why Wi-Fi captive portals are such a powerful marketing entry point, and how their built-in email tools turn past guests into repeat, direct bookers. We also dig into real-world results from Pride Away Stays, the launch of StayFinder as a direct-booking meta search tool, and what the future looks like for hosts who truly want to own the guest experience from first click to check-out.Things we discussed in this episode:Hosts lose guest data and relationships when relying on Airbnb/VRBO.StayFi was created to capture guest info for direct bookings.Guests enter emails through a branded Wi‑Fi splash page.StayFi runs on UniFi access points or StayFi Express.Jason and Rory saw stronger Wi‑Fi and fixed a Schlage lock. They clarified why “not secure” Wi‑Fi warnings appear for guests.Automated emails help turn past guests into repeat direct bookers.Availability-based campaigns promote only properties open for specific dates.StayFinder shows OTA vs. direct prices and links to direct sites.StayFi plans managed email services and cheaper mesh hardware.Get in touch with ARTHUR:Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/a.colker/Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/a_colker/?hl=enWebsite - https://stayfi.com/#SmartStayShow #realestate #realestateinvestor #realestateagent #RealEstateInvesting #DirectBooking #BookDirect #EmailMarketing #GuestExperience #OwnYourGuest#StayFi #StayFinder #WiFiMarketing #HospitalityTech #PropTechFollow Us!Join Jason Muth of Prideaway Stays and Straightforward Short-Term Rentals and Real Estate Attorney / Broker Rory Gill for the first episode of SmartStay Show!Following and subscribing to SmartStay Show not only ensures that you'll get instant updates whenever we release a new episode, but it also helps us reach more people who could benefit from the valuable content that we provide.

The current episode elucidates the intricate dynamics within the furniture industry, particularly highlighting the dissonance between a recovering housing market and the prevailing softness in furniture orders. As the housing market exhibits encouraging signs, evidenced by a year-over-year increase in existing home sales, the furniture sector faces a downturn, with new orders declining by 3% and shipments falling by 6%. This juxtaposition underscores a persistent challenge: housing affordability, which is increasingly delaying homeownership among younger demographics and consequently postponing their requisite furniture purchases. Moreover, while optimism surrounds the upcoming holiday season, characterized by anticipated consumer spending increases, the reality of diminished demand for home goods emerges from recent sales data. Thus, we navigate a complex landscape marked by both potential and challenge, necessitating strategic adaptations within the industry.A thorough examination of the housing market reveals an encouraging trajectory, with existing home sales experiencing a year-over-year increase of 4.1% in September. This positive development appears to be substantially influenced by a minor reduction in mortgage rates, thereby presenting a nascent opportunity for prospective buyers. Such fluctuations in the housing sector are often indicative of broader trends within the furniture industry, which has historically relied on a robust housing market to drive demand for home furnishings. However, despite these promising signs in housing, the furniture sector exhibits a more complex narrative, as evidenced by a reported decline of 3% in new furniture orders compared to the previous year. Additionally, shipments have decreased by 6%, suggesting a cooling demand that belies the optimism surrounding the housing market. The juxtaposition of a recovering housing sector against the backdrop of softening furniture orders highlights a critical issue: housing affordability. The average age of first-time homebuyers has escalated to a record 40 years, a demographic shift that poses significant challenges for the furniture industry. As younger consumers, who traditionally spur household formation and initial furniture purchases, become increasingly priced out of the market, the implications for furniture demand are profound. This delay in homeownership correlates directly with a postponement of furniture acquisition, creating a formidable headwind that cannot be mitigated solely by fluctuating mortgage rates.Takeaways: The housing market exhibits signs of recovery, with existing home sales experiencing a year-over-year increase of 4.1% in September, reaching a total of 4.06 million units sold. Despite the positive housing market trends, the furniture sector is facing challenges, as evidenced by a 3% decline in new furniture orders compared to the previous year. The average age of first-time homebuyers has now reached an unprecedented 40 years, indicating a significant delay in homeownership that adversely affects furniture purchases. Consumer spending for the upcoming holiday season is projected to surge, yet this anticipated growth hinges upon substantial discounts and promotions to attract buyers. Safety concerns in the furniture industry have escalated, as over 119,200 clothing storage units were recalled due to failure to meet mandatory safety standards, emphasizing the industry's responsibility to prioritize consumer safety. Trade uncertainties and fluctuating demand continue to exert pressure on the supply chain, with companies like Unifi reporting notable declines in net sales attributed to these external factors.
