Do you know what the earliest warning signs of chronic disease are? In the Western world, many people assume they are in good health until they are diagnosed with a diease. The problem is, that's not how life works. Disease begins very subtly and is likely with us long before we are aware that it is there. Our system will give us warning signs in advance, however. It's important to become aware of the roots of chronic disease as it begins at the subtle level before it manifests at the physical level. In this epsiode of The Love Cast with Jamal podcast, I invited doctor of Ayurveda Victor Briere back on the show again to discuss how to recognize if we are on the road of health, or chronic disease. The warning signs just might surprise you. Give this episode a careful listen. Your life and health are worth it. You can connect with Ayurvedic Doctor Victor's work further HERE.

KEY POINTS: - What is Ayurveda? - Functional medicine versus Ayurveda - The detriment of compartmentalizing our health - Is it simply genetics or ancestral karma? - Ayurveda diagnostic techniques - The 3 doshas and your unique constitution QUOTABLES: “It's holistic in nature, meaning that we address the entire being not just a specific part of the body, at any given moment. And that's very different from what we think of as modern medicine, which is very symptom-centric. Ayurveda is cause-centric.” “Ayurveda is much more interested in how the disease came to be and that path, because you can have the same presenting symptoms but a completely different pathology. So those are going to require different methods of healing.” GUEST RESOURCES: International Institute of Ayurveda: iiayurveda.com Pulse Unveiled, The Art and Science of Ayurvedic Pulse Reading: iiayurveda.com/books Pulse Unveiled Workshop: iiayurveda.com/ayurvedic-pulse-diagnostics Free 15 minute ayurvedic constitution assessment via zoom: iiayurveda.com/clinic PRODUCTS / RESOURCES: Follow Dr. Jen Haley on Instagram @drjenhaley - instagram.com/drjenhaley Visit her website at drjenhaley.com Book a consultation with Dr. Haley here: dermoncall.net/jhaley BiOptimizers formulates amazing magnesium and gut supplements. In today's episode, our guest is Victor Briere, the co-founder of the International Institute of Ayurveda. He serves as a NAMA-recognized Ayurvedic Doctor and Kundalini Yoga Teacher. He is a gifted pulse reader specializing in ayurvedic diagnostic techniques and health counseling. He is the primary clinician and the Chief Academic Officer of the Academy. His in-depth, individualized approach to health offers clients and students a detailed and encompassing perspective on the underlying causes of imbalance. He offers the support often needed to successfully address the root cause of illness and restore the body to balance. [5:55]Why should we listen to you? The first thing I'm going to tell you to do is to stop drinking that coffee. That usually piques people's interest. You should listen because I spent a long time researching what kind of the basic fundamental brass tacks get down to the realities of the body are. [6:34] I'm going for the deep down "What is it" because I know we've been there. We think one thing, and then we end up doing another. [7:01] When I run my clinic, what I deal with all day is helping people sit down and create a protocol or a lifestyle that's going to heal them and the fundamental root causes of their imbalances as opposed to just put a band-aid on top of something and call it okay. [8:05] What are the problems in the conversation of what's Ayurveda? When someone comes into my office, there are a few typical things I'll see. One is digestive issues which is the foundation of a lot of other diseases. Digestive issues are enormous, and that includes weight, whether it's underweight or overweight. Another is skin issues. These days, the big ones are the two big ones, which are entirely related to each other, which are diabetes, anxiety, and depression. [8:49]What do you think of the causes of anxiety? It's always been around. But the reason it's inflaming or getting so prominent right now, there are a few reasons, but this is the loneliest time of human history, especially with the COVID reality that we've been living in where isolation is at its peak. [9:23] If you're isolated, it's just a matter of time before you get anxious and depressed. It's the reality of the human nervous system. We're meant to be communal, and we're meant to be face to face and to interact and to touch and to hug and to be in compassionate, loving environments. That's what we're wired to be. [10:03]Ayurveda It is a super ancient, holistic system of health. Holistic means that if I'm looking at you and got this problem, you got congestion, I could give you a herb that says it will help your congestion. But the congestion is just a symptom. I want to know the root cause of why you're getting congested, to begin with. To do that, I'm going to need to assess your entire body and know about your mental states, lifestyle, the food you're eating and not eating, your relationships, and all that. Ayurveda is a holistic system that takes all that into account and seeks to assist the body in finding the equilibrium that it is already searching for. [12:33]Addiction Addiction is a big word. Addictions are increasing along with depression and anxiety because addiction is what we do to compensate for the true desires we have that can't be fulfilled that are going unfulfilled. [13:24] Ayurveda wants to go to the bottom as it always does. There's no such thing as an antidepressant pill in Ayurveda because we want to deal with the lifestyle and relationship issues that are generating depression and anxiety. There are a lot of solutions when someone's willing to start looking for real. [14:09]What are some of the outcomes for individuals who get a chance to work with you? The testimonials are people heal for real. It's not a band-aid. You don't need medication for your medication. You don't need any of that stuff. If you can find the root cause of your imbalances, in Ayurveda, they're well laid out. [15:04] If you could sit down and work it out with a coach, it's another set of eyes. It's another set of eyes looking neutrally at your situation. [16:12]Why don't more people know about this? I think in our day and age, there's a big flood of information out there. Some of it is great, and some of it is not so great. Let's be honest, a lot of information goes out there; the heart of it is not to get at the truth. The heart of it is to sell you something. [18:08]How did you get the truth? There is a reality out there that I've never heard about. Since that point, I have just started seeking it. That's how I got into it. It turns into a whole different thing. Demand [21:09] I saw enough clients and people in my clinic who didn't want to do the work. They were asking for the pharmaceuticals. They say they don't want to change their diet and lifestyle. They want the drug. I've seen that a lot. There is this massive demand. The supplier has specific responsibilities, but you also got to look at the people and demand that they want what they want. [23:43]If you could find the guy in the car, what would you say to him? I'd start talking to them. I wouldn't say much. I start listening. That would be my first move. All humans do it, so we should stop judging other people for doing it. We got to have compassion and listen. There's a reason that's happening, and that has a lot to do with our autonomic nervous system. [24:32] If we had a rough past or a strict upbringing and we are not able to create the resilience inside our bodies to feel safe in the world, we're going to feel threatened constantly. That's going to do all sorts of crazy stuff to our body in our mind. We're going to rely on comfort foods, addictions, or everything, just to get a minute of feeling okay. [28:23]What promise did God make to the world when He created you? God promised that you would have someone there by your side to help you heal compassionately. Key Quote [17:58-18:03] “First and foremost, we need to make sure that people are being delivered the truth so that they can actually heal.” Learn more about Victor Briere on: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/victorbriere/ Website: https://www.iiayurveda.com/

If you are like most women in menopause, your biggest symptoms are weight gain and sleep disruption. “I'm not sleeping through the night. At times I wake up hot and sweaty. I look like I am 9 months pregnant and can't get the weight off.” “I'm 51, need a good night's sleep with no interruptions due to hot flushes. Getting fatter and fatter.” “My biggest disruption would be weight gain. I can't do what I used to and it depresses me. I can't sleep and it makes me anxious.” When the reality of struggling with these symptoms affects your overall health, things can start to feel out of control--especially when nothing seems to get you out of MENO-misery. And then, when one thing works for someone else, do you find yourself comparing your situation to theirs, only to wonder why it doesn't work for you? When it comes to tackling MENO-Misery, there is no one-size fits all answer. But you can discover the MENO-Mate way of living that is helping so many women make menopause the best time of their lives. It starts with understanding one simple phrase: You are unique. And while you're suffering from weight gain and lack of sleep, others are riding the roller coaster of mood problems. Others are finding it difficult to concentrate. And many don't like themselves at all right now. Every one of us is so unique, and what may work for them may not work for you. It's the beauty of being human. Now, overwhelmingly, the biggest complaint we hear from women is weight gain. And if we are going to overcome the MENO-Misery associated with weight as we age, It's important for us to really evaluate our relationship with food. My dad introduced me to potatoes when I was young. He was cooking one day and I was sitting on the counter and he said, “Here try this.” It was just a raw potato with salt on it. And I was like, "yum!" Emotionally, I have associated potatoes with my father and when I find myself craving potato chips, I usually am missing him. It's harder now that he's passed on. And it helped me to manage the grief of his death. And even now, I recognize that chip cravings are the emotional yearnings of my teenage self. But it helps to be aware, and I rarely eat chips now... Food is not just food. Ayurveda teaches this principle: no one part of us operates independently from one another. And Ayurvedic medicine uses unique practices that are all about finding balance in your body. It focuses on dietary improvements and simple habit changes for lasting improvement. In this episode, we welcome Ayurvedic doctor and co-founder of the International Institute of Ayurveda, Victor Briere as we learn about a new perspective to health and wellness. We talk about food cravings and what they mean PLUS: What is Ayurveda? The 3 types in Ayurveda The cause of disease Chinese medicine versus Ayurvedic medicine Menopause and Ayurveda The right and wrong ways to be vegan Causal factors for menopause The definition of sleep A routine to help you get a great night's sleep Meditation It's all good to deal with symptoms. We also want to help you get to the root cause… Watch this episode and stay to the end to find out Victor's Top 3 Practical Tips to Start Creating Health Right Now! Victor talks about how in Ayruvedic medicine they look at disease more as an imbalance. He talks about the link between stress and disease. He talks about the Vegas Nerve and how it affects our mental and physical health. He also talks about the link between the Vegas nerve and addiction. Victor also talks about the age-old skill of seeing the state of someone's health by reading their pulse. He also talks about the prevalence of auto immune diseases in our society and explains how Ayruvedic handles it. Victor Briere, A.D., and I discuss what Ayurveda is about, its application to health and wellness, and its connection to chakras. To perform spiritual practices in yoga efficiently, one has to have a healthy body. As a holistic science, Ayurveda treats the body and the mind as a whole. In this episode, Victor sheds some light on how Ayurveda can help improve overall health. Ayurveda Explained While yoga is about finding life’s spiritual aspects, Ayurveda is a holistic science that promotes good health and balance. Its approach is more on treating every part of the body by acknowledging that it is connected as a whole at the core. It attempts to treat a disease at the roots itself. Ayurveda also focuses more on staying healthy to avoid getting illnesses and maintaining balance according to one’s body, mind, and spirit. Victor recommends that Ayurveda should be practiced alongside yoga to achieve overall wellness. Yoga practices require focus, and if you’re not healthy, it would be a challenge to meditate, chant, and breathe. Ayurveda ensures a healthy body, increasing the benefits of yoga towards finding balance within. Stress is the most common cause of imbalance, according to Victor. The body has the ability to handle stress, but too much stress is where the problem lies. External conditions also contribute to imbalance. When these build up little by little, the body gets weaker, and if it goes too far, that is when illness comes in. Ayurveda exists to provide solutions for this problem, restore balance in the body and keep the body healthy. The Concept of Doshas Doshas are the primary biological forces in all of nature. Primary patterns in nature reflect in the human body, and these control the functions of the body. There are three Doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Vata is concerned with all movement in the body from the nervous system down to the digestive system. Pitta controls breaking down substances like the metabolic process, and Kapha is about growth in the body. The harmony between these Doshas creates balance in the body, and each person differs in their concentration of Doshas. Have you heard of Ayurveda? Ayurvedic medicine (“Ayurveda” for short) is one of the world's oldest holistic (“whole-body”) healing systems. It was developed more than 3,000 years ago in India. It’s based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Its main goal is to promote good health, not fight disease. But treatments may be geared toward specific health problems. In this episode we cover :His journey started with back pain at age 19. His journey started over 11 years ago. Ayurveda is a holistic approach! He talked about the Vegas Nerve! Ayurveda is not one size fits all! Adopting a breath practice can help with pain levels. When and How are more important than what. When it comes to eating.Cooked Foods are better for those with Fibromyalgia. Ayurvedic Doctor, Victor Briere, co-founder of the International Institute of Ayurveda, joins me at the Kitchen Table for a deep and detailed discussion about parallels that exist among intuitive eating and ayurvedic's philosophy and practices. In the episode we discuss: ✨ Beginning to uncover root causes of our health impairments, rather than constantly rely on diet culture or healthcare services to quickly treat symptoms or solve our immediate desires. ✨ How our intuition can be masked by our feelings and difficult to identify, especially when it comes to making food choices. ✨ How aligning the mind, body, and soul, and being able to listen to and honor each, leads to an awakening that brings clarity to each.
