Á meðan er eins gott að taka engu of persónulega. Þegar þú upplifir síðan skapofsaköst og augnsvipi sem lýsa fyrirlitningu, barnið kemur heim og á ekki eitt orð fyrir þig um hvernig dagur þess var og virðist þurfa að leggjast í hýði og borða bara kolvetnabombur sem hljóma fáránlegar – þá megum við vita að allt þetta er mun stærri upplifun og hræðilegri oft fyrir það sjálft en okkur. Eða hvað? Það er alla vega ýmislegt sem foreldrar geta gert til að styðja við barnið sitt og upplifa í leiðinni ánægjulegra tímabil.
Í byrjun árs 2024 hafði Gunnar Jörgen samband við mig og spurði hvort ég hefði áhuga á því að umturna lífi mínu. Ég svaraði játandi - og þá hófst svakaleg svaðilför. Til að byrja með hlustuðum við á bókina Change Your Paradigm, Change Your Life eftir Bob Proctor 30 mín á dag 60 daga í röð og töluðum saman í símann á hverju kvöldi um bókina. Síðan tókum við 110 daga hugleiðsluprógrammið Awakening The Heart Vol. 1. Ein hugleiðsla á dag og alltaf símtal á kvöldin. Eftir það lásum við 30mín í bókinni The Incredible Reality of You 90 daga í röð og héldum áfram að tala í símann á hverjum degi. Síðan tók Awakening The Heart Vol. 2 við.
Glamúrinn á hinu víðfræga Met Gala-kvöldi í New York í síðustu viku hefur farið öfugt ofan í netverja síðan í síðustu viku.
Þar má nefna ígrundaðar samræður foreldra (RDPED), “polyvagal informed treatment”, “fierce self-compassion”, “the power of mindful self-compassion”, doulunámskeið, BIO TRIO (erasmus verkefni um samskipti) o.fl.

Welcome to episode 188 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast! We have another edition of Gear Talk with Annie and Brooke of the Swimrun Labs this week. In this episode we (finally) discuss the Ark Sports VIGG and the brand new VIGG AIR Swimrun wetsuits. It was surprising to all of us that we haven't given this suit proper review treatment but it was likely because Chris, in particular, has been singing its praises since 2018 and would mention the suit whenever it seemed like a natural place to bring up how awesome he thought it was. Does the rest of the gang agree? In short, yes!!!! It was unanimous that we all thought the VIGG suit was an amazing piece of kit and 5 pull buoys were given by everyone. We'd like to give Ark Sports a huge thank you for sending us their new VIGG AIR suits to test and review.Enjoy! That's it for this week's show.

Welcome to episode 130 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast! We're heading back to Sweden this week and we're super stoked to share our conversation with Swimrunner extraordinaire, Max Andersson. We've been following his exploits for a while and it was great to get him on the show to talk about his Swimrun journey. But first...Training UpdateTraining has been interesting this week. Chipper had a great week but Chris's training went sideways after his whole household contracted COVID. He's on the mend and will be ramping back up just in time for Ödyssey Swimrun Casco Bay…which is just 2ish week's away! ShoutoutsThis week we are shouting out Bradley Amery. He recently reached out to us asking for our preferred cliff/dock jump technique for his first ever Swimrun at Casco Bay and we're here for it. Thanks so much for reaching out and hope our video from last year's Austin LTBz shakeout was helpful.Feats of EnduranceThis week's winner is Steve Hann from the U.K. We spotted him on Strava rocking a Ödyssey shirt on a ten mile run and it turns out that he's flying out for Casco Bay in a few weeks. See you there Steve!Make sure to sign up for our LTBz Strava Club and join Swimrunners from around the world as they train for stuff. This Week in SwimrunWelcome to the LTBz news desk! We're keeping it short this week with only one announcement that is near and dear to our hearts…As anyone who has listened to pretty much any of our Gear Talk shows knows (and/or has played the Gear Talk drinking game), Chris is a huge fan of the Ark Sports VIGG suit. Well this week Ark released the 2022 edition of the VIGG Wetsuit. The new VIGG pushes the envelope even more than the original model. The back pocket is re-shaped for extra space. Legs are updated with a new hi-end fabric for increased durability. Leg cut is also improved. New super stretch and soft collar improve comfort around the neck.Anyway, we are obviously ridiculously stoked for this suit! That is it for this week. Feel free to reach out and let us know if there's anything that you'd like for us to mention on the show.UpdatesCheck out our latest Youtube video all about the new Ark Sports KORP Wetsuit. This suit is awesome and we can't recommend it enough! We've scheduled our next Patreon Zoom Meetup for July 9th at 7pm (Eastern) time. We'll be chatting about new Ark Sports gear, holding an impromptu Casco Bay race strategy sesh, and other good stuff. Check out our Patreon page to learn more about how you can help support the show for the cost of one grande oat milk latte per month.Max AnderssonIt was so great to finally catch up with Max. We started paying attention to him when he won last year's EX Swimrun's Ark Supersprint race and we've been rooting for him ever since. In this conversation we talked about his Swimrun journey, how he had less than 12 hours of notice to race his first ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship in 2019, what's it like to race with the likes of Adriel Young and Hugo Tormento, and much more. We love his enthusiasm for sport and think that you will love this conversation as much as we did. Enjoy! That's it for this week's show.

Welcome back to the Sutta Meditation Series Podcast. This is the FULL DHAMMA SESSION, conducted on NAVAM POYA (17 January 2022) via zoom, on "BENEFICIAL TALK" that comes abandoning wrong speech to enter upon right speech. We examine the 10 beneficial topics of discussion that the Buddha encourages in the Paṭhamakathāvatthu Sutta (AN 10.69). As we know, Right Speech is an important factor of the Noble Eightfold Path, that is the way out of suffering, leading to full awakening (nibbāna). So, if you wonder why the mind wobbles, why it is unwieldy and non-compliant when you meditate... Why the mind doesn't easily enter concentration or jhāna..., then this Dhamma session on Beneficial Speech may offer some meaningful answers from the Buddha's teachings. In this Dhamma session, we cover: — Right Speech and the Noble Eightfold Path (mundane and supramundane) — Wrong Speech that arises from Pointless Talk (tiracchānakathā) — Fourfold Developments and the Profitable Directions — Right Speech that arises from the ten topics of discussion (dasakathāvatthu) — Benefits of engaging in Beneficial Talk — Venerable Mahākassapa, a role model Some of the suttas covered directly or indirectly in this session: — Mahācattārīsaka Sutta (MN 117) — Tiracchānakathā Sutta (SN 56.10) — Viggāhikakathā Sutta (SN 56.9) — Halidakkani Sutta (SN 22.3) — Rāja Sutta (Ud 2.2) — Hārasampātabhūmi (Pe 7) — Saṅgīti Sutta (DN 33) — Suttavebhaṅgiya (Pe 9) — Dutiyasekha Sutta (AN 5.90) — Mahāsuññata Sutta (MN 122) — Anumana Sutta (MN 15) — Sallekha Sutta (MN 8) — Vatthupama Sutta (MN 7) — Sambodhi Sutta (AN 9.1) — Dutiyakosala Sutta (AN 10.30) — Paṭhamakathāvatthu Sutta (AN 10.69) — Dutiyakathāvatthu Sutta (AN 10.70) — Karaṇīyametta Sutta (Snp 1.8) — Santuṭṭhitā Sutta (AN 6.114) — Paṭhamahatthaka Sutta (AN 8.23) — Santuṭṭha Sutta (SN 16.1) — Paviveka Sutta (AN 3.93) — Saṅgaṇikārāma Sutta (AN 6.68) — Dhātusosaṁsandana Sutta (Iti 78) — Pacalāyamāna Sutta (AN 7.61) — Nagaropama Sutta (AN 7.67) — Ākaṅkheyya Sutta (MN 6) — Pamādavihārī Sutta (SN 35.97) — Cūḷavedalla Sutta (MN 44) — Dutiyavibhaṅga Sutta (SN 48.10) — Upanisa Sutta (SN 12.23) — Kimatthiya Sutta (AN 10.1) — Paṭhamaupanisa Sutta (AN 10.3) — Jiṇṇa Sutta (SN 16.5) — Mahāgosiṅga Sutta (MN 32) Bohoma pin to the person who requested this talk. Í þessum þætti setjast þrjár þriggja barna mæður niður til að ræða hvernig lífið breyttist við að eignast þriðja barn. Það voru þær Gyða Björg Sigurðardóttir, Kristín Björg Viggósdóttir og Svava Margrét Sigurðardóttir sem ræddu málin.Hugmyndin að þættinum var í grunninn sú að ræða hvernig nálgun að uppeldi breytist við að eignast þriðja barn eftir hafa tileinkað sér virðingarríkar uppeldisaðferðir og vera svo „RIE frá fyrsta degi.“ Og hvernig lítur það út þegar það er í afar mörg horn að líta? Verkefnið að koma þriggja barna mæðrum saman í herbergi til að ná að taka upp þátt reyndist þrautinni þyngri – en tókst!Úr varð yndislegt spjall þriggja mæðra um hvernig lífið breyttist eftir þriðja barn með ólík fjölskyldumynstur og samband systkina við komu þriðja barns.
Við höfum nokkrum sinnum fjallað um hreyfiþroska ungbarna hér í hlaðvarpinu. Fyrst í þætti okkar um grunnatriði RIE og um að kenna eða kenna ekki, þegar við vorum að hefja flugið í þessu hlaðvarpi fyrir tveimur árum síðan. Þá hafa bæði sjúkraþjálfararnir Agnes og Kara úr Hraust þjálfun aðeins komið inn á þetta með okkur í 22. þætti sem og Freyja Barkardóttir sjúkraþjálfari og Kristín Björg Viggósdóttir iðjuþjálfi í 33. þætti. Í dag ætlum við aftur að taka þetta upp – og ítarlegar. Af hverju? Jú, vegna þess að almennt þarna úti er oft misskilningur um hvað við erum að tala fyrir. Er það leti? Afskiptaleysi? Welcome to Gear Talk with our friends Annie and Brooke from Swimrun Labs.In this episode, we have another wetsuit review. This week we do a deep dive on the brand new Ark Sports ORNÖ X Swimrun Wetsuit. This suit was just released a few weeks back and we were lucky enough to get 4 suits sent to us to test by our friends at Ark Sports. Our complete review is coming later in the show.Gear UpdatesBrooke finally realized that she is small and not a medium as she previously thought after using Trista's Ark Sports KORP suit. That small fit much better and resolved her issues of water entering the suit.Chipper just picked up 3 pairs of the Magic5 swim goggles. These are allegedly custom-made and are sized to fit your face by using a facial recognition-type app to get the sizing right. Chipper also is trying out the Hoka One One Torrent 2 as his new Swimrun shoe. More updates on how that goes in the coming weeks.Annie also got a set of the Torrent 2's and will report back as well.Chris recently updated his “team” race kit by replacing his trustworthy compression bandage with a new slimmer H&H Mini Compression bandage. It's a lot slimmer than the old one and capable of being worn in a kangaroo top due to its design.Untethered ThoughtsThis week's untethered thought comes courtesy of Greg Dierksen of the Boston Wet Sox. He DM'd us with the observation that there is very little information about “the tether” out there and recommended that we do a Gear Talk show on the tether. Great observation and suggestion and we will be releasing that show soon! Thanks Greg!ARK SPORTS ORNÖ X Wetsuit ReviewCheck out our first impressions video here to get our first look at the ORNÖ X wetsuit. Here's how ARK describes the ORNÖ X:ARK Sports ORNÖ X is an evolution of our flagship model ORNÖ which has been tested and trusted by the Worlds best swimrun athletes since its launch in 2017. A pioneering suit positioned as the most thermal and buoyant suit in the ARK Sports line without compromising of keeping the lowest weight. What came to be the world's fastest swimrun suit, has now been developed, optimized, and revolutionized for the start of the 2021 swimrun season. The suit retails for $710 and features premium Yamamoto Limestone neoprene, running+ bottom, thermal+ foam waist belt, and comes with arm sleeves. A men's medium weighs just 510grams and a women's medium weighs 500grams.Out of the box, this suit looks and feels premium. But how does it perform?Swimming ImpressionsChris and Chipper tested the ORNÖ X during two long Swimrun practices where the water temps were around 55 degrees. The suits worked amazingly. The suits felt properly warm and the thermal+ belt really helped to keep the core warm. The shoulder mobility was excellent. The anti-leak neckline worked as advertised. The running+ bottom felt like it was providing some warmth which might be due to the neoprene material lining of the running+.Annie tested the suit with both a pull buoy and without. She felt that the ORNÖ X provided some buoyancy even without a pull buoy. She was surprised by how great the shoulder material felt during the swim. The shoulder material also feels more flexible and stretchy compared to the ORNÖ 02 which might mean that it will have better durability (read: fewer armpit holes requiring repair).Brooke got her mind blown by the suit. She felt like she was swimming in a second skin and a perfect suit for the Pacific Northwest. She thought that just how it performs in the swim makes it well worth the money. Transition ImpressionsBasically a non-issue. Everyone thought that the suit performed great coming in and out of the water. The zipper size felt sturdy. Cabbing down and up was a little challenging, partly because of fear of tearing the suit.Everyone loved the new design of the rear pocket on the suit. It was really well thought out and worked as advertised. Similar feedback for the zipper size of the suit. The .5mm arm cuffs were another innovation in the suit that everyone thought was great. They help the suit stay in place and keep the arm sleeves well-positioned to create a good seal to keep water out.Running ImpressionsEveryone thought that running in the ORNÖ X Suit was great. The running+ material that ARK uses allows for complete running freedom and no one had any major complaints about the run performance of the suit. Chris runs hot and felt like he had to cab down/lower the zipper on most runs. Chris also experienced a tiny amount of chafing with one of the seams on the inside by the leg opening but it was barely noticeable and nothing a little bit of body glide wouldn't fix.Brooke continued to get her mind blown running in the suit.Pull Buoy Rankings RankingsBrooke 5 Pull BuoysShe was smitten by the ORNÖ X Suit. A joy to run in, a joy to swim in, and she can't wait to race in it.Chris 5 Pull BuoysHe thought that this suit is the pinnacle of technology for the sport and ARK Sports once again raised their own high bar. Next to the VIGG, it was the best wetsuit that he's ever worn.Annie 5 Pull BuoysShe thought that this was the best suit that money can buy and worth every penny.Chipper 5 Pull BuoysChipper wants to use this suit all the time. It was a joy for him to train in and he is looking forward to the next time that he can wear it...whether to a Swimrun or not.Overall ImpressionsThis is definitely a milestone for us. The ORNÖ X is the first item to be reviewed that received 5 Pull Buoy ratings across the board. While it's an expensive suit, it has all the latest innovations in terms of design and materials that raises the bar on what's possible in a Swimrun wetsuit. Major kudos to the DaVinci of Swimrun, Daniel Sand, for once again raising the bar of what is possible in wetsuit tech! That's it for this week's Gear Talk show. Ark Sports KORP Wetsuit ReviewWelcome to Gear Talk! As always, this show is co-hosted by our friends Annie and Brooke from Swimrun Labs.In this episode we do a deep dive into the Ark Sports KORP Wetsuit. This suit has gotten a lot of attention lately due to Ark deeply discounting the suit by 50% for a week that caused the corner of the internet that cares about Swimrun to freak out. We know that a lot of people purchased these suits so we breakdown all of our thoughts on this amazing piece of kit.But first, we are unveiling a new segment...Untethered ThoughtsWe got a great email from Jasper from Belgium with some feedback about our winter open water swimming AND our swim paddles episodes. We really appreciated him taking the time to write to us and that inspired us to create this segment.Jasper (who has a PhD in physiology) wrote to us to clear up that the reason that people tend to pee more when it’s cold is that kidneys are flushing fluid out in order to release pressure from your system to send blood to your core to keep your organs warm. Hence, you can get more dehydrated in cold water so make sure that you’re on top of your hydration all the time, but definitely during cold events.Jasper also had some feedback on some swim paddle testing that he did and had some interesting findings. He found that if he shortened the distance from the tip of the swim paddle to the tip of his fingers that this made his swim times be faster with less shoulder strain. It totally makes sense that if you shorten the lever arm (length of the arm with paddles) that this reduces the torque on the shoulder. If your paddles have extra holes for straps, try to moving them so that your fingertips are closer to the edge of the paddles and see if that works for you. Thank you again Jasper!Reach out to us if you have anything that you’d like to share with us to be part of this new segment. New Gear First ImpressionsWe have two items to discuss this week. Chipper and Chris got the NU Orza Pull Buoy courtesy of The Swimrun Labs. This pull buoy is comparable in size with the new Ark Sport Keel s and comes with a pre-drilled hole and a yellow paracord for mounting. We’re excited to check it out and do a full review on a future episode.Chipper and Chris also got a special delivery from Frank Paddle a few weeks back with two sets of carbon fiber swim paddles to test. Their first impressions are that these things are incredible! A full review will be coming out soon. If you want to learn more about these paddles in the meantime, check out episode 50 of the podcast with Frank Paddle’s founder, Fredrik Bengtsson. Finally, Annie was recently contacted by a couple of companies that are designing Swimrun-specific undergarments for women. Handful (that’s the name of the company) sent over some prototypes for the ladies to test and Innovenia reached out for some customer feedback. Here is the survey link for the Innovenia research. AnnouncementsChipper and Chris were in the garage where most of the show ideas seem to be born and they came up with the idea to create a “Swimrun Swapmeet” on FB. This is a forum for people that are looking for Swimrun gear to buy, sell or trade. So if anyone got one of the KORP suits on faith but the sizing didn’t work out, we have a place for you to try to trade it. Join the Swimru Swap Meet today! The Wetsuit Details from Ark SportsArk Sports describes the KORP as “the optimal all-round” wetsuit. Their website states that “the suit is designed to cover the whole spectra of swimrun races, from shorter sprints to longer full-day adventures. This suit is designed for the athlete who prefers a lightweight and flexible suit where comfort is key.”The KORP is Ark’s entry-level option but the suit is packed with tech. The suit has the following features:Premium Yamamoto LIMESTONE neopreneLow weightScratch-resistant surfaceRunning+Master buoyancy belt - 3 mmAnti-leak neckUltraFlex inner linerBack pocket with zipper closureSeparate arm sleeves includedA medium-size suit weighs in at a ridiculously light 550 grams (19.4 ounces).Running ImpressionsRunning in the KORP is a dream! This “Gen2” wetsuit (a wetsuit little to no neoprene below the waist) like the rest of the Ark Sports suits designed by Daniel Sand, is optimized for running. You can learn more about Daniel on episode 53 of the podcast. The bottom of the suit uses Ark’s Running + fabric that is great to run in and comparable to the Running ++ fabric that Ark uses on the UTÖ and the VIGG. The neoprene on the top of the suit is thin and comfortable to run in.Chipper and Chris took the KORP on a hilly trail run. Cabbing up and down was not a problem at all. Chris thought that the neckline wasn’t as comfortable as the VIGG suit.Swimming ImpressionsChris and Chipper tested a suit in the pool. They both thought that the suit was comfortable to swim in. There was some water that got in through the neck closure and pooled in the lower back but that might be mitigated by making sure that the neckline is sealed right. More testing is required.Brooke tested the suit in open water and did have an issue with the neck seal and had some water pool in her lower back while swimming. She didn’t have any discomfort with the neck closure that Chris and Chipper experienced. This suit felt a little more durable than other Ark Suits that we’ve tested. (Check out our review of the Ark Sports ORNÖ)Transition ImpressionsThe KORP cabs down and up easily and transitions shouldn’t be an issue with this suit. We did have some questions about the placement of the zipper on the back pocket. We thought that it could have been better to either move the zipper to one side or the other or stick to the flap pockets that other Ark suits employ.Pull Buoy Rankings RankingsBrooke 4 Pull BuoysBrooke thought that there is some room for improvement with the suit. She plans on racing in the suit this year. She knocked off some points for the neckline seal issues and for Ark’s “no returns” policy.Chipper 4.5 Pull BuoysChipper thought that for the price point, this suit is good for everyone from beginners to advanced. The suit is durable, comes with separate arm sleeves, and versatile enough to be used in most races.Chris 4 Pull BuoysChris gave the KORP 4 pull buoys but wants to give it 4.5 buoys if he can solve the neckline discomfort. Overall, this is an amazing suit that checks off a lot of boxes. He plans on training in it and maybe racing in it depending on the event.Overall ImpressionsIf you’re looking for an entry-level wetsuit to use in a variety of training and racing conditions then look no further than the Ark Sport KORP. This suit packs in a lot of tech for the price point and won’t be obsolete anytime soon. That’s it for this week’s Gear Talk show. Welcome to episode fifty-three of the Low Tide Boyz - A Swimrun Podcast! This is officially year two of the show and we have something really special this week. So special in fact that we’re afraid that we may have set the bar too high for ourselves with this one. On this show we have Co-founder and chief designer of Ark Sports, Daniel Sand. This is the guy that literally came up with the concept of a Swimrun wetsuit and revolutionized the sport when he was with Head Sports and then took it to the next level when he started Ark Sports and revolutionized the sport again with the introduction of the next generation of Swimrun suits.More on this cool conversation later in the show.ShoutoutsThis week we are shouting out our wives, Kristen and Susan, for their seemingly limitless (although there is a limit) support of us and our labor of love for the sport of Swimrun. As we embark on the second year of the show, there is literally no way that this show would be possible without them.Adventure Time/Training UpdatesWith the holidays past us, we are ready to buckle down and start making some progress on our plans for charting a cool Swimrun course at Lake Sonoma. We have maps, gels, hall passes, and other stuff lined up to make this happen. We’re also starting to plan a road trip to San Diego in March to spend a weekend training with SoCal crew of Andy, Mel, Kelsie, Sean, Phillip, and the rest. We hope that this will be first of many road trips taking the show (and the training) on the road.In other news, Chris joined Tower26 and is committed to making more gains in the pool to be able to keep up with Chipper. If you want to know why, check out Episode 32 with Tower26 Founder, Gerry Rodrigues and Episode 42 with Tower26 coaches Megan Melgaard and Jim Lubinsky. This Week in Swimrun (Powered by Raceid.com)We’ve got some Swimrun-related news to share this week.Ödyssey Swimrun has opened registration for Orcas Island, Casco Bay, and Austin. Register by January 14 to sign up at the lowest prices of the year. They also have a new race on the calendar for 2021: Swimrun Ludington in Michigan. Registration hasn’t opened for that event yet but we have two words that should inspire you to register when it does...SAND DUNES!For those of you looking for a truly epic event to race, Rockman Swimrun registration is open on Raceid.com. The race is on August 14th. If you haven’t seen the Youtube videos of this race, make sure that you are sitting down when you do. Check out Episode 26 with Rockman Race Director Thor Hesselberg to get even more stoked to take a trip to Norway in August. The registration window for the ÖTILLÖ World Championship is open. Go to their press release to get all the details on how to enter. Registration is open until January 20th so make sure that your race results are up to date and best of luck getting a spot on the starting line. Finally, we wanted to let everyone know that Swimrun NC had to move the date of their 2021 event from October 24th to November 7th due to park permit issues. That’s it for this week. Feel free to email us to tip us off to any events or Swimrun news that you’d like for us to share on the show.UpdatesWe’ve got some fun things in the works for 2021 including focusing on Swimrun teams in February, helping to promote the “All The Way: The Making of Swimrun Champions” movie in March, and hosting some live podcasting while on the road at events (COVID permitting.) We’ve added some new content to our website that folks should check out. Under our resources tab, you can now find a 2021 US Swimrun Race Calendar for all the races that we could find. (If we’re missing one, please let us know!)This Week’s InterviewAs we mentioned at the start of the show, this week’s interview is so good! Daniel Sand is a Co-Founder and Chief Designer at Ark Sports and is singularly responsible for the Swimrun wetsuit that we all take for granted. Daniel’s journey to revolutionize Swimrun started in 2014 when he started to design the first Swimrun-specific wetsuit for HEAD. In 2017, he revolutionized the Swimrun wetsuit again when he co-founded Ark Sports and created the Swimrun wetsuit design that is commonplace today. In this interview, we cover the history of the Swimrun-specific wetsuit, its innovation over the years, and Daniel’s role at the center of that. We talked about his rationale for leaving HEAD to start Ark Sports. We also broke down the design process behind some of the key Ark Sports wetsuits like the VIGG, ORNÖ, and UTÖ and, of course, the Keel pull buoy. We asked the tough questions about product durability and learned how Ark Sports is working on that. Finally, we talked about what the future holds for Swimrun equipment and Ark Sports. If we sound like Ark Sports fanboys during this interview it’s because we are. It's hard not to root for them. You can learn more about Ark Sports here. That’s it for this week’s show. Í þættinum förum við nokkrar yfir hvað við erum að hugleiða í dag í tengslum við uppeldið og létum upptökutækið ganga á milli okkar. Það sem kom við sögu var ýmist uppeldi á okkur sjálfum eða börnunum okkar. Hér fengu vangaveltur að flakka um notkun uppnefna í systkinahópi, svefnrútínu, einkatíma, útiveru, húsverkaþátttöku, svefntíma, málþroska, að vera gagnsæ um okkar líðan við börnin og uppákomur og álag í miðju farsóttartímabili. Og dúndur hugleiðing um ofurkonuhugtakið. Þær sem voru til í tuskið að þessu sinni voru þær Svava Margrét Sigurðardóttir, Guðrún Björnsdóttir, Perla Hafþórsdóttir, Kristín Björg Viggósdóttir, Elsa Borg Sveinsdóttir og Gyða Björg Sigurðardóttir ásamt Guðrúnu Ingu Torfadóttur.
Í þessum þætti, sem spratt upp sem sjálfstætt framhald af frábærum síðasta þætti um minimalisma og virðingarríkt uppeldi, ræddum við nokkrar um hvernig við forgangsröðum í lífum okkar hvað varðar hagsmuni barnanna og okkar sjálfra. Ólíkir foreldrar forgangsraða með ólíkum hætti en það þýðir ekki að einhver þeirra hafi rétt fyrir sér og aðrir rangt. Þetta reyndist vera prýðisgott umræðuefni og hægt að velta ýmsu fyrir sér hvað þetta varðar. Þátttakendur að þessu sinni voru Gyða Björg Sigurðardóttir, Kristín Björg Viggósdóttir og Perla Hafþórsdóttir ásamt Guðrúnu Ingu Torfadóttur.
Welcome to Gear Talk with Annie and Brooke from Swimrun Labs.On this episode, we answer a question that we got from several of our listeners: what GPS Wearable should I get for swimrun? We discuss everything that should be considered in choosing a GPS watch and share our personal favorites. But first…Gear Updates/First ImpressionsAnnie ordered the Aquasphere Classic Pullbuoy that was mentioned on the Budget Swimrun Kit episode for $6 and free shipping. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as giant as advertised. It’s the size of a regular swim pull buoy. That being said, for $6 you can buy two of them and glue them together.Ark Sports KORPBrooke has continued to have water infiltration issues with her Ark Sports KORP wetsuit. She contacted Ark and they mentioned that she should have sized down…but didn’t offer to replace it for the right size since she had already used it in open water. While the KORP might run big, Chris mentioned that his VIGG suit might run small. So make sure that you are super confident about your size.Ark Sports Keel+ Swimrun Pull Bouy Finally, Chris and Chipper have started testing with Ark Sports Keel+ Pull Buoy (this item is sold out online). Chipper did a “scientific” test of 100 yard swims with nothing, a regular pool pull buoy, a Keel, and the Keel+. The Keel+ was definitely the fastest. Chipper also used the Keel+ in a swimrun practice and was a lot faster in a full kit. Chris did a longer non-scientific test of 500s with paddles alternating between the Keel and the Keel+ and his gut told him that the Keel+ was faster. It took some getting used to swimming with the Keel+ given the size and extra buoyancy in a pool without a full kit on. We’ll have a full review on the Keel+ in a future show. In the meantime, you can listen to our complete review of the Keel Pull Buoy on Gear Talk.GPS Wearables for SwimrunBefore getting into the details about the best GPS wearables and watches for Swimrun, we wanted to make some global statements about GPS watches. First, having a GPS watch is not a necessity to participate in Swimrun or have fun out there so don’t let the lack of a GPS watch stop you from training and signing up for a race. Second, there are a lot of considerations about the technical features of the different watches. There is a better source for that type of analysis: DC Rainmaker is the gold standard for super in-depth reviews about specific watches. Finally, while most GPS watches have some form of heart rate monitoring and use different methods, either with a chest strap or wrist-based optical readers. Chest strap is the most accurate so if you’re looking for something for heart rate training and optical tracking is more for folks that aren’t totally devoted to zone training. Annie had some more thoughts on the matter that you can read below:Optical HR sensor accuracy can vary from individual to individual. Aspects such as skin color, hair density, and position can impact accuracy. The band should be snug. It doesn’t need to leave marks, but you shouldn’t be able to slide a finger under the band (at least during workouts). Chest strap will always be more accurate than optical. If you do a lot of steady state training, using a wrist based HRM is generally pretty reliable because there’s not much HR variation it needs to pick up. Still can be 2-10 BPM off though, which is a lot.If your training is based on shorter intervals and you rely on HR to guide effort frequently, as in tightly zone-based training, opt for chest strap over optical HRM and save some bucks on your watch as you won’t need this feature. Wrist based HR can have a delay in presenting changes in HR, so if for example you are doing a 30 sec interval at higher intensity, you may be done with the interval before your watch picks up the effort increase. One last note- 24x7 HR monitoring (am resting HR, avg resting HR) can be helpful for gaining a lens into when you may be over-fatigued, having trouble recovering from your training, or responding to other stressors in life. Fatigue and cumulative stress is an important metric to monitor for any athlete. Optical wrist HR does well with this application. Some general recommendations that we have are the following:Make sure that the watch is a GPS watch and doesn’t require you to run/swim with your phone.Make sure that it has good battery life if you’re going to be doing longer events.Make sure it’s waterproof.Make sure that the watch has some form of multisport setting. (Either built-in like Garmin or able to add like Coros, Suunto, etc.)Make sure that the watch can capture the metrics that you care about.GPS Wearables and Watches that We’ve UsedChris and Chipper both use the Garmin Fēnix 5 and would recommend it. It works well, has swimrun-specific settings, good battery life and it’s tough. Chris has used Suunto watches in the past but would always come back to Garmin. Chipper has always used Garmin watches for multisport events but hasn’t seen any reason to change.Brooke uses the Garmin Forerunner 735xt and has had it for three years. She loves it because it calculates open water and pool swim metrics like SWOL score and stuff like that. The battery life lasts about 9 hours for her which is less than advertised but still pretty long life. (This watch is currently on sale on Amazon for $229.95!)Annie also uses that Forerunner 735xt but first used the Suunto Ambit 3 Vertical for a long time. She had initially got the watch for its superior altimeter data collection (and because of the color: Bright Turquoise Blue) but she was disappointed with it when using it for Swimrun. The watch wasn’t easy to set up custom multisport settings. It did what it needed to do but it wasn’t ideal. Annie is super happy with her 735xt and recommends that people do not choose a watch based on the color. NOTE: it’s easy to change the color of the Garmin watch bands if you want to bedazzle your GPS watch look with one of these color bands kits. Here’s a handy list of the GPS wearables and watches that we know of that have Swimrun-specific or Multisport settings:GarminForerunner 735xtDescent MK1tactixFēnix 5, Fēnix 5s, and Fēnix 5xFēnix 6SuuntoAmbit 3SpartanSunnto 5Suunto 7Suunto 9CorosVertexApex ProApexPolarVantageGritOverall ImpressionsIn closing, we all agree that while having a GPS watch is totally optional for Swimrun, we would recommend making your life easy and make sure that whatever watch you use collects and sends your data to your preferred method of recording, e.g., Strava, Training Peaks, Garmin Connect, etc. We’re obviously fans of Garmin but they are by no means the only way to go.That’s it for this week’s Gear Talk show. Vivobarefoot ESC Tempest ReviewWelcome to Swimrun Gear Talk, co-hosted by our friends Annie and Brooke from the Swimrun Labs.In this episode, we break down the Vivobarefoot ESC Tempest Swimrun Shoe. Chris and Chipper have trained in the swimrun shoes for several weeks and they are ready to share their thoughts on the Tempest and get peppered with questions by the Swimrun Labs.(Note: Vivobarefoot was kind enough to send us a couple of pairs of shoes to demo and they have not asked us for an endorsement or paid us for this review.)(Second Note: if you want to learn more about Vivobarefoot and the genesis of the ESC Tempest, check out episode 23 of the podcast for our interview with Asher Clark, Co-founder of Vivobarefoot.)Previous Show Review UpdatesSalomon Amphib Shoe Mini ReviewIn the “Shoedown” episode we chatted about the Salomon Amphib shoe (not the S-Lab version) and Chris has recently have been using these shoes for urban Swimrun practices in San Francisco for several weeks and really liked them. In the Shoedown episode, it was brought up that traction was an issue with these shoes on trails but they have been working extremely well on pavement. Chris would definitely recommend these for more urban adventures. These shoes aren’t in production anymore in the current iteration but the new version is called the Amphib Bold Water Shoe and looks very similar to the version that Chris used.Ark Sports ORNÖ 02 Swimrun WetsuitIn our previous review about the Ark Sports ORNÖ 02 wetsuit, we chatted about durability being an issue since the suit is so thin. Recently Annie noticed that she was getting yet another hole in the armpit of the suit and had to fix it with Aquaseal + Neo Neoprene Contact Cement. At this point, she’s thinking that the armpit wear might be a problem if this suit is used too often.Gear Talk First Impressions ReportsArc’teryx Norvan SL Shoe ReviewAnnie recently picked up a pair of the Arc’teryx Norvan SL shoe at a rock-climbing store and loved them. The upper material is very similar to the Amphib uppers and allows for maximum drainage. The Norvan SL is a trail shoe so the tread had a great grip coming out the water and on trails. Annie now thinks that this shoe is a contender to become her everyday Swimrun shoe. Ark Sports VIGG Swimrun Wetsuit ReviewAs mentioned previously, Chris made an ill-advised late-night purchase and ordered the Ark Sports VIGG Swimrun Wetsuit. He used it for one Swimrun practice and it’s safe to say that he’s hooked. The suit is very light and uses the Running++ material in the legs, back and arms. Running in the suit was amazing. It felt more like running in swim skin than a wetsuit. Even though the suit is thin, the neckline kept water out and the suit was comfortable in relatively cold water (around 56-58 degrees Fahrenheit/13-15 Celsius) even without using arm sleeves. Note: the VIGG does not include removable arm sleeves. The Running++ material repelled/shed water as soon as he came out of the water. After observing the ORNÖ O2 and the VIGG closely, the Running++ material appeared to be a tighter weave that the Running+ and felt thinner. The seams on the VIGG look a bit sturdier than those on the ORNÖ as well. This might be due to all the Running++ material used. The jury is still out on durability but it looks like it might last with proper care.Overall, the suit was amazing and Chris now understands why Annie and Chipper want to use their Ark Sports suits in training despite the durability issues. The VIGG is a joy to Swimrun in and Chris plans to use it in training as long as the water temperature allows. The Main Event: The Vivobarefoot ECS Tempest Swimrun Shoe ReviewThe Tempest is the first style to launch as part of the “Extreme Survival Collection,” and is touted as “the best Swim Run shoe on the planet, for the amphibious athlete” on the Vivobarefoot website. The description of the shoe states that it was “[i]nspired by nature's aquatic animals and blended with modern technology, we created a lightweight organic cage to provide flexibility, drainage, and protection.” The sole was developed in collaboration with Michelin using a proprietary compound that provides grip on every surface. The shoe retails for $220.The shoe looks pretty revolutionary from top to bottom and has the following features:Sticky rubber outsole developed in collaboration with MichelinSpeed toggle for easy fasteningQuick draining mesh and recycled plastic PET ankle sock constructionBio-based Bloom EVA midsole gives additional flotation reduces heavy feet in the waterThere’s a lot to unpack here so let’s jump right into the review of the shoe.Swim ReviewThe shoe performed excellently on the swim. It was definitely a non-issue and didn’t require any mental energy while swimming. A great shoe for swimming. Period.Swimrun Transitions ReviewIn transition, the shoe performed well. The ankle sock construction isn’t tight around the ankle so some debris can enter the shoe but it wasn’t very noticeable. The shoe drains exceptionally well since the entire upper part of the shoe is basically all mesh. Chipper got scientific with the shoe and did the Swimrun Labs-prescribed water bucket test. He took the shoes and weighed them while dry, then he immersed them in water to soak for 20 minutes, weighed them afterward, waited two minutes, and then re-weighed them. (Note we had to two different measurements because Chipper used one black and one orange shoe for the test.) Here are his results for the Men’s size 11 shoe:Dry Weight:Orange shoe (342 grams per shoe)Black shoe (337 grams per shoe)Weight after the 20-minute soak:Orange shoe (426 grams)Black shoe (423 grams)Weight after 2-minute dry time:Orange shoe (415 grams)Black shoe (394 grams)Interestingly, the Black color version of the shoe appears to be slightly lighter than the coral color. We didn’t notice any performance impact but it was worth noting. The special Michelin compound of the sole lived up to the hype for us. We exited and entered water on sand, dirt, and slippery rocks and grip was never an issue. Same was true while running on pavement, sand, dirt, grass, train tracks and wood planks.Run ReviewA caveat to the run review is that this shoe is super minimal and it does take some getting used to. Chris didn’t do any of the recommended exposure to get accustomed to minimal shoes but Chipper went through the protocol as described by Vivobarefoot. All that being said, neither Chipper nor Chris were ready to totally commit to minimal-style running. Chipper could see himself racing a short Swimrun event in the shoe but Chris wasn’t into it. Training in these shoes will definitely happen. (Annie, Brooke and “science” recommend using a variety of shoes regularly of different types since this is the easiest way to prevent common running injuries.)One issue that both Chipper and Chris experienced on the run was that they got a blister on the pinky toe on the black shoe. The hot spot was probably due to where the top of front part of the shoe was creasing while running. Interestingly, there weren’t hot spots on the orange shoe. It’s too early to tell about the durability of the shoe. The shoe is really well crafted but there is a potential for some ripping on the mesh of the shoe because the materials are so specific. The material used in the upper to create some structure might also start peeling off after long-term use.Overall, the shoe performed really well on the run (blisters aside) and it was an ideal shoe…if you can run in them.Pull Buoy RankingsChipper(4.5 Pull Buoys)While Chipper thought that the shoe wasn’t necessarily for him, he thought that the Tempest was the best Swimrun shoe that he’s been exposed to. Yes, the shoe might be a bit more fragile and a bit expensive but the shoe is next level. If swimrunners are looking for the top of the line when it comes to Swimrun shoes, then this is the shoe for them.Chris(4 Pull Buoys)Despite his personal concerns with the shoe, Chris thought that the shoe was amazing and really appreciated the tech that was used to create a shoe that is specifically for swimrun. Vivobarefoot has set a high bar for shoes. He took some Buoy points away for the cost and for the break-in period required to really be able to race long distances in the shoe.Overall ImpressionsThe Vivobarefoot ESC Tempest is the most advanced Swimrun shoe in the world. It’s amazing to see the technology that was put into this shoe and how they executed something that is a game-changer for the sport. It is literally the best Swimrun shoe out there. That’s it for this week’s Swimrun Gear Talk show. Welcome to the (newly named) Gear Talk: The Löw Tide Böyz and Swimrun Labs review show!In this episode, we do a deep dive into the Ark Sports ORNÖ 02 Swimrun wetsuit. We’ve talked about Ark Sports a lot on Gear Talk and we’re stoked to take a closer look at the ORNÖ 02 suit. Both Chipper and Annie have used the ORNÖ 02 in training and racing so we get their perspective on the suit while Brooke and Chris peppered them with questions. We were first introduced to Ark Sports when we interviewed the co-founder, Christofer Sundberg for the podcast back in February 2020.Wetsuit Details from Ark SportsThe ORNÖ is Ark Sport’s “flagship suit” and it has been tested and trusted by the world’s best swimrun athletes since they launched it in 2017. Ark Sports describes the suit as “a stripped racer with no unnecessary additions. Designed with the single purpose of making you move as smoothly and quickly as possible even through the hardest conditions.” The suit boasts the following features: Premium Yamamoto LIMESTONE neoprene Low weightRunning+ (the material of the bottom half of the suit)Master buoyancy belt - 4 mm AIRAnti-leak construction - totalUltraFlex inner linerGlide skin coatingThe suit comes in Men’s and Women’s specific cuts and costs $480. It includes removable arm sleeves and a whistle can be purchased separately. The size chart on the Ark Sports site is very detailed and both Annie and Chipper we’re able to dial in the right size easily.Swimming ImpressionsAnnie loved swimming in the suit. She was expecting it to not be a cold-water suit but because the suit locks out water so well it worked well in a variety of conditions. The removable sleeves also worked really well despite how thin the neoprene was. Similarly, Chipper loved swimming in the suit and echoed Annie’s experience of the suit sealing out water. The shoulder material in the suit is very thin and allows for full range of motion. Chipper felt like the suit was like a second skin in the water. The lower half of suit which is a different material that the top half didn’t result in feeling cold and was a non-issue.One negative of the suit is how delicate it is. Annie has been using the suit a lot (over 17 times) and she’s gotten several holes in the suit in the anterior shoulders, on the hip seam and in the back of the neck. Chipper’s suit is just starting to get some small tears in the armpit area. Annie and Chipper both recommended pairing it with a large swimrun pull buoy to address the lack of buoyancy in the lower half of the suit, which is very minimal and designed for ultimate running mobility…which we will discuss below. They weren’t sure if buoyancy would be an issue if swimrunners are not using a large pull buoy.Overall, the suit performs exceptionally well in the water. The suit looks great but it has a low safety score because of the color. The suit doesn’t come with a whistle but you can get one for an extra $10. While durability is an issue, it is a very well-engineered wetsuit designed specifically for Swimrun.Running ImpressionsThe ORNÖ 02 performed amazingly during runs. As mentioned above, the lower half of the suit uses a material that Ark Sports calls “Running+” that is a spandex material with some thin neoprene with nylon backing that doesn’t absorb water.Running in this suit was “hands down the best running suit” that Chipper has used. The suit doesn’t hold water and is super light. Annie also felt that the suit was great for running. Chipper hasn’t cabbed down (lowered the top half of the suit for runs) as often as Annie has and it appears that the tearing issues started as a result of excessive cabbing down and up.One potential negative is that the suit has zero storage. While the new Utö suit, Korp and Vigg suits have a back pocket, the ORNÖ 02 requires you to either wear an undershirt with storage or have some other external storage solution. This might be okay for a race with ample energy stations but it’s an issue for longer self-supported Swimrun adventures.Annie’s Pull Buoy RankingFor racing, Annie gave the ORNÖ 4.5 pull buoys. It works exceptionally well for racing and she docked a half a pull buoy for lack of any storage. For “everyday” or overall use, she gave it 4 pull buoys mostly because of the lack of durability.Chipper’s Pull Buoy RankingChipper thought this was the best suit that he’s tried and even seen. He gave it 4.5 pull buoys because of the lack of durability and storage.Overall ImpressionsAnnie and Chipper both agree that this suit will result in a performance advantage for anyone that uses it. This is a great race suit but given how delicate the suit is, it’s not be the best suit for everyday training and potentially worth have another suit that is primarily for training and save the ORNÖ 02 for race day. Annie recommends getting some Aquaseal + Neo Neoprene Contact Cement to fix any tears that might happen from training or racing in the suit. Chipper’s favorite feature of the suits are the running+ leg material and the flexibility in the shoulders coupled with the removeable arm sleeves. Annie’s favorite feature was the running+ material and the fit of the suit along with how great the suit looks. Some suggestions for improvement that Chipper and Annie had would be to include some sort of pocket for storage and include the whistle. They would also like to see better material for the Velcro to seal the neck of the suit.Overall, Ark Sports really changed the game by creating a suit that is now imitated by several of the other brands in the sport. It’s an amazing piece of technology. It’s also very cool that Ark Sports has a demo/rental program in collaboration with Ötillö events. That’s it for this week’s Gear Talk show. Hin kristnu gildi sem kirkjan notar séu sammannleg og finnist í öllum trúarbrögðum og reyndar líka í Harry Potter bókunum ef út í það er farið. Inga Auðbjörg ræddi þetta við okkur. Sænski loftslagsaktivistinn Greta Thunberg afþakkaði umhverfisverðlaun Norðurlandaráðs sem hefði skilað henni 6,4 milljónum króna. Hún segir lítið á bakvið orðagjálfur Norðurlandanna í umhverfismálum. Rithöfundurinn Bergur Ebbi segir hana benda með afgerandi hætti á að fólk þurfi að umbylta háttum sínum. Ekki aðeins verksmiðjur mengi heldur jafnvel menning okkar, lífstíll og listir. Við ræddum þetta við Berg Ebba. Fólk getur nú vafrað um Kringluna á öllum tímum sólarhringsins - reyndar ekki á staðnum nema hluta sólarhringsin, en á vefnum hvenær sem er. Kringlan er nú orðin stafræn ef svo mætti að orði komast og finna má vöruúrval 70 verslana á vefsíðunni kringlan.is. Forsvarsmenn Kringlunnar segja þetta í takt við nýja tíma og nýja kynslóð sem er vön að geta verslað á netinu. Baldvina Snælaugsdóttir markaðsstjóri Kringlunnar kíkti til okkar í spjall um stafræna verslun og framtíðina í þeim efnum. Tónlist: Eivör - Við gengum tvö. The Police - Every breath you take. Freya Ridings - Castles. Coldplay - Orphans. Travis - Coming around. OMAM - Alligator. Jónas Sig - Höldum áfram. Fun og Janelle Monáe - We are young. Cake - Never there.
Jen Lumanlan, Your Parenting Mojo. This week we welcome on friends of the pod, Puma and Cenz who make up the "Who Do You Think You Are, I Am" podcast. We quickly uncover the eskimo brother connection between us, and the episode takes shape from there. We go over a list of redheads Vigg likes, do some Boxing talk, some movies talk, and go over the definition of a Moose Knuckle, all in the first 10 minutes. From there, we get into what's going on in the MLB (10:00-36:25), but as usual we can never stay on topic, so somehow we get into the first time my mother found a box of condoms in my room (14:35-16:36). We also have a NEW VIDEO CHALLENGE (36:26)!!! It will be Mikey Vigg for Fanalyze This vs. WDYTYRIAM's very own, James Puma.
