Life Group Leaders' Notes Title: Why You Need God's Vision For 2023 Key Text: Genesis 12:2-3, Genesis 15:5 & Genesis 17:7   We need God's vision all through our lives, but at the start of the New Year, it's very important that we are focused on God's plans for us. When we have God's vision, we can live every day with a purpose and confidence. Without vision we are in trouble.   As pastor Wes Richards has said many times, this is a Biblical vision rooted in the vision God long ago gave to Abraham. It is a vision for multiplication (Genesis 15:5), each generation (Genesis 17:7), a great nation (Genesis 12:2) and World transformation (Genesis 12:3).  At the start of this year, it is essential, in all the busyness of our lives, that we focus and refocus on this vision. How clear is your vision right now? Do you need to have a spiritual eye test so you can see more clearly? It's important both naturally and spiritually to have the best vision.  Vision of who Jesus is (John 8:12, John 14:6, John 11:25, John 6:35) Vision that can come into the family of Jesus (1 John 3:1, Romans 8:17) A Vision to become like Jesus A Vision to change the world for Jesus (Matthew 28:19-20, Proverbs 29:18, Mark 16:15-16)  Apply   1. Vision of who Jesus Is  Every Vision must be centred in Jesus. He was very clear who He was and who He is.   John 8:12 when Jesus said “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”. In John 14:6: “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.” In John 11:25: “Jesus said… “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;” In John 6:35: “Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”   Jesus was not just a prophet, or an influencer of his time, a teacher.  He is much more than that, He is the Son of God, the Messiah. He is the one who can give us life, direction and fulfilment.   He is the one who loves us unconditionally and eternally. He is the one who will be our best friend who will never leave us. He is the one who will help us through every storm in life and bring us safely to heaven when we die.   There's no one like Jesus and we should see clearly that we must always put Him at the centre of our lives.  2. Vision that we can come into the family of Jesus  1 John 3:1 NIV: 'See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!'   God's only son Jesus gave his life's blood to pay the price for us to be adopted into the family of God. We are no more orphans. We belong to the best family in the world.   When we know that we are God's Children, we can confidently come to him. When we are family we have privileges. We should feel the same with God, sometimes we are shy to ask God, or feel guilty because we “don't deserve”, but the truth is - YOU'RE A CHILD OF GOD, you can enter in His presence confidently.    Romans 8:17 “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”   3. A Vision to become like Jesus.   Jackie Pullinger was a British Missionary who arrived in Hong Kong in 1966 and came to a place called the Walled City. It was a small, densely populated, lawless area controlled neither by China nor Hong Kong. She spent more than 50 years working with heroin addicts, gang members and sex-workers.   She said: “I loved this dark place. I hated what was happening in it but I wanted to be nowhere else. It was almost as if I could already see another city in its place and that city was ablaze with light. It was my dream. There was no more crying, no more death or pain. The sick were healed, addicts set free, the hungry filled. There were families for orphans, homes for the homeless, and new dignity for those who had lived in shame. I had no idea of how to bring this about but with ‘visionary zeal' imagined introducing the Walled City people to the one who could change it all: Jesus.”   - Made 287 places to house the poor - 1000s came out of addictions   We must become more like Jesus, that wherever we go, we show Jesus, we must pray and change to have Jesus' Character.    4. A Vision to change the world for Jesus.   Matthew 28:19-20 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.””   Jesus gave us the vision to change the world, it was easy: MAKE DISCIPLES. If we want to change our community, our town, our city and country we must make disciples. As I mentioned at the beginning in Proverbs 29:18: “Where there is no vision, the people perish”.   We complain of how things are, what the government is doing or the economy, and our people are perishing, but we have the solution: Make disciples. Every Christian must have this vision. For Mark 16:15-16 says: “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.   God has a Vision for the UK, South Africa and every Nation. Pastor Wes & Adriana, they have a Vision for a multicultural church, a multiplying church, a church that affects individuals, families and the world. You too can be part of this vision.  This year in 2023 step up and walk in this God's given Vision to make disciples in every nation, starting in our homes and communities.   Do you have a clear vision of seeing the potential of great fruitfulness in your life when you are called by God?  Do you have a clear vision that God wants to bless each member of your family?  Do you have a clear vision that God can do great things God through your church and any church that is united and fully committed to Him?  Do you have a clear vision of playing your part in the growth of God's kingdom? But above all at the start of this year I want to ask if you have a clear vision of Jesus?

“There is definitely a contest for the future of the center right,” says Reihan Salam, the president of the Manhattan Institute, a conservative think tank. In his telling, one side in this contest is “deeply pessimistic about the prospect of a diversifying America, explicitly anti-urban and increasingly willing to embrace redistribution and centralized power,” more so than conservatism before Donald Trump. This populist right has received a lot of attention since Trump's election, and we've done other shows to try to understand it.But Salam is advancing a very different set of ideas with a very different theory of the electorate. He's identified what he sees as a core fissure between the progressive elites who run the Democratic Party and the working-class voters of color who make up a large part of its base — particularly on issues of race and gender. And he believes that by putting forward an “urban conservative” agenda centered on education, housing and public safety, Republicans can exploit those internal cleavages and begin to win over demographics that have been central to the Democratic coalition. So for the final episode in our “The Rising Right” series, I wanted to use Salam's thoughts to explore this alternate path for the American right. We discuss why the Republican Party has turned against major cities, whether antiracism is the right framework for addressing racial inequality, why he believes that children of Latino and Asian immigrants could become a core G.O.P. constituency, the difference between antiracism and “antiracialism,” the tactics of the anti-critical-race-theory movement, why he thinks there's been an “overcorrection” on the right in favor of state power and redistribution, what a supply-side conservatism beyond just tax cuts could look like, why he believes we could be entering an era of “fiscal constraints” that could radically reshape policymaking on both the left and right and more.Mentioned:“The Anti-C.R.T. This week we have Dr. Andrea Luise, owner of Lakeway Spine Center and author. Andrea has been a practicing chiropractor for 17 years and for the past 8 years has been the sole owner of her practice and a single mom. An insightful question from her daughter two years ago sent her down the path of becoming a published author. The StartSchool focused on the science of chiropractic even though they were told 60% of chiropractors fail in business…there was no business aspect of their educationPracticed for 2 years in Virginia before moving to TexasFell into entrepreneurship after she and her then husband (also a chiropractor) weren't happy with jobs or prospectsThe ShiftSingle mom and sole business owner was never on her radarAll her eggs are in one basket, pandemic has made it nerve-wrackingA lot of pivoting during the pandemic, changed protocols completelyA major part of the business, massage therapy, was shut down for 2 months, chiropractic was limited (just acute patients)Down about 80% for 2 1/2 monthsTwo years ago, daughter asked her, 'Mom, what would you be if you could be anything?' and 'Author' flew out of her mouth, surprising them bothConcept for book evolved over the pandemic with all the extra timeThe StrategyNarrative driven non-fiction style book - inter weaving personal experiences/life with life in her practice and themes that keep coming up with the patients that she treatsStarted by getting used to writing, sitting down and writing to strengthen that muscleTook a class called Author School, led by literary agent Rachele Gardner (Jen Hatmaker's literary agent) 8-week course taught you to go from typing on your laptop by yourself to being on the shelves at a book store. Learned how important building your platform is, learning how to connect, meet other writers, find her people. The ActionAt first, hiring was on craigslist to find a massage therapist, front desk help, office coordinators but now it's Indeed and local Facebook pagesTo get chiropractic clients: Mostly word of mouth Weekly post on social media for local Facebook sites, and Instagram post on Small Business Tuesday Some print work (hit or miss, people not reading as much mail as they used to) Local neighborhood newsletters Great group of doctors that refer patients to her regularly To build audience and community around her upcoming book, having a strong following if trying to publish traditionally is expected. Focused on building that following Huge underground community of bookstagrammers that support each other The MindsetUp at 5 or 5:30am to work outLunch break to decompress, reading and breathing Compartmentalize loose ends at work so the can be present at homePrayers and gratitude at bedtimeGoals and Vision For the practice - maintain a good team, keep the practice moving forward For writing - start the query process, become represented and published The Wrap-UpIf you could listen to one music artist for the rest of your life, who would it be? Todays’ guest is Melina Palmer. Melina helps companies of all sizes to incorporate Behavioral Economics into their businesses to make them more brain-friendly, and increase conversions and ROI. Melina hosts the Brainy Business Podcast where she serves up brain-friendly concepts every week.  In this episode, we talk not just about Behavioral Economics, but how to apply these important concepts in your business. You will rethink how you package your offerings, and how you talk about your prices that makes people more likely to buy from you, and buy more of the things you know they need from you. You’ll also consider shifting all the crap that you say to yourself because we will talk about how your brain goes and creates what it believes to be true. I could talk all day to Melina about all this stuff, especially how to use scientific research and apply it to make subtle shifts in our businesses and the way that we do things that can have an outsize impact.  My own takeaway is to make sure that my own clients are using anchoring and framing correctly in their own businesses. Ladies, what were your key takeaways in this episode? Come share in the She Thinks Big Facebook group. I’d love to hear from you. Melina’s Big Ask:  Melina is looking to connect with someone from high levels in HR and Marketing inside large organizations like Target and Costco for speaking engagements and corporate trainings, for their teams to understand Behavioral Economics.   Melina’s Vision: For her name and Brainy Business to be synonymous with Behavioral Economics across the globe, to be Suze Orman of Behavioral Economics. Brainy Business Episodes Mentioned: Truth about Pricing #5 What is value #8 Loss Aversion #9 Anchoring #11 Relativity #12 Mindset #13 Scarcity #14 Framing #16 Overwhelmed brain #32 Incentives #36 Costco #47 Get in touch with Melina: Website: www.thebrainybusiness.com Podcast: Listen to the Podcast Youtube: Check out my speaker reel!
