Amy Lynn Walsh joins me on the show today to talk about her new release, Nellie. It's part of the Apron Strings Series, a string of heartfelt inspirational stories by various authors featuring different women through the decades. Amy and I talked about the book's setting of Northeastern Pennsylvania, which is the area where we both live! We also discussed tuberculosis treatment, Amy's other books, and how she balances her writing life with her teaching career. Here's a description of Nellie: Finances are tight for the O'Dwyer family who live on a mountain outside of Scranton, Pennsylvania in 1931. Life gets even harder when their beloved Dadaí must cease work as a coal miner to become a patient at the West Mountain Sanitarium. Nellie is her preferred name, but family and friends have heard Mam shout “Fenella Aileen O'Dwyer!” all too often with the countless predicaments she got herself into throughout childhood. So, it's not altogether surprising when Nellie impulsively accepts a job as an assistant cook at the Clarinda House in a case of mistaken identity—though she's the last person her family would ask to prepare a meal. Fortunately, along with determination, a talent for acting, and the gift of blarney, Nellie has Mrs. Canfield's Cookery Book, a treasure she discovered at a Red Cross drought relief sale. As her reluctant admiration for her employer grows, Nellie wishes she could be the truthful woman of faith that Mr. Mason Peale esteems. If she confesses all, will she lose her job along with the friendships she's formed at Clarinda House? Purchase Nellie on Amazon (affiliate). Accidental Gods
Walk Deep, walk true, and listen to your dreams: wordsmithing the human spirit with Abigail Morgan Prout

Peruvian shaman Oscar Miro-Quesada says that "Consciousness creates matter, Language Creates Reality, Ritual creates relationship.”  This week I'm speaking with someone who bring reality into being with words and weaves relational rituals.  Abigail Morgan Prout is a poet, life coach, mother and visionary. She and I have been talking to one another for about three and a half years. We connected just before lockdown and then, as life became weirder, Abigail's daily poems were a bright flash in the whirling chaos, a doorway into a world halfway across the planet that was different in so many ways, and yet so often the same; a sense of soul connection to someone who gets it; an excoriating and sometimes intensely personal, vulnerable view into someone else's life, shared with great courage - and word-jewels of true beauty that connected me again to the wonder of the web of life, and the wonder of language. As a writer, I am always in absolute awe of the fact that we can make black marks on a white page and evoke the whole multi-dimensional, multi-sensory glory of human and More-Than-Human experience. As a prose writer, I am ever more in awe of the skill poets bring to their word-smithing, and Abigail's is beautiful, moving and inspiring at all levels. It's not just me that thinks so - Walk Deep, the collection that arose from lockdown won the 2021 Homebound Poetry Contest. So when Homebound published Walk Deep, I really wanted to bring Abigail onto the podcast - to talk about the process of writing, which is one of my more major obsessions, but also to talk about everything she brings to this -she's a life coach and a teacher of life coaches. She's a daughter and a mother and she holds ceremony in beautiful ways. We didn't touch much on this last in the main body of the podcast - but, as happens so often, as soon as I'd stopped recording, we talked about exactly this, and it seemed so profoundly important, that I hit record again and we added another ten minutes of what, to me, is not just podcasting gold, but human gold, spiritual gold; the account of someone's experience of a lifelong dream that came to life, but more than that, of the ways the web of life is so ready to connect with us and offer help if we can only open to hear it. So that's tacked on at the end, before the final credits.Abigail's website https://www.abigailprout.com/Spiral Leadership Method https://www.spiral-leadership.com/Accidental Gods Membership (the Intention Intensive is within the Membership)  https://accidentalgods.life/join-us/Abigail on FB https://www.facebook.com/abigail.m.proutInstagram: @Insta: abigail_Morgan_prout

Is building trust for the purpose of selling or getting something manipulation?

Quick Hits

Every sales training I've seen talks about building trust. If you are a good human and selling something someone actually needs or wants and you are engaging in good faith – that's not manipulation - - right?     But, if you're sleazy and trying to get them to buy regardless of their needs or wants – tapping into their emotions and building trust to sway them – that is manipulation and that's not cool - - yes?     Joey Robert Parks shared a story about how he used to lie – a lot. And then an idea attributed to Mark Twain. What is the difference between a lie and fiction? A lie is told for the benefit of the teller. Fiction is told for the benefit of the listener. (I can get on board with that.)     Expanded – manipulation is for the benefit of the seller. Building trust is for the benefit of the buyer.     The idea of lies didn't come up for Todd Karges. Instead, Is the relationship being built to sell or just for the sake of the relationship?     Kaitlyn Niechwiadowicz jumped in next. The word manipulation has such a negative connotation – the expectation of dishonesty or someone trying to be sly or sneaky. Which is the exact opposite of building trust (even if trust is created?) She believes the answer to the original question lies in the intention of the seller.     Near the end we played with the idea that manipulation is not negative if you have permission to do it. As in – if you read a book or go to the movies you are giving the author permission to draw you in, to create emotions in you based on a story.     But without that consent manipulation, building trust for sinister reasons, is evil.     What do you think – is building trust on purpose to gain something manipulation? ordsmithing, The Art of Using Words to Influence Our Minds”   Show Description:   Do you realize how effective words are to affect the way you think and behave? Sticks and stones will break my bones will never harm me”. That childish statement is a lie. Everything we do in life emanates from a thought we have. Every thought we have comes from a word or picture (remember a picture is like a thousand words) that sits in our mind, and we believe it. In the Theatre of the Mind the use of words exquisitely arranged to create pictures in our minds is the currency of the realm. The question is which realm? The Domain of Darkness or the Kingdom of Heaven?   Come listen to Papa Tom describe how wordsmithing has been used in his life to help him understand his craft as a Storyteller. Papa Tom defines what the term wordsmithing means and how it can be used for good or evil. Come listen to three Stories Papa Tom describes to illustrate “wordsmithing” starting with Satan's use of words to deceive Adam and Eve in the Garden. Next, there is the use of the word “wordsmithing” in The Last All Hallows Eve” a new EBook that you can download from our website at www.thefathersheartmedia.com. Finally, we can learn how our government uses “wordsmithing” to convince us to take action based on the narrative they are describing. Unfortunately, many of these narratives are designed to create worry, anxiety and fear and thus are false.   Worse than that, those with evil intent who desire to exercise power and control over us, use wordsmithing to program us. This is subtle, yet effective. For those who press into the heart of the Father, no worries. The Word will always reveal the truth. The Word tells us if we abide in Him, we will know the Truth and the Truth will set us free. Remember it's always in the Father's Heart for His children to be free! Bringing the hearts of the fathers to the children and the hearts of the children to fathers is our mission.     Come and listen, enjoy, and connect with God Your Father's Perspective!     Show Notes: Subscribe at our website www.thefathersheartmedia.com and enjoy all our media: podcasts, articles, blogs and Children's Books.  We released a new eBook for adults “The Last All Hallows Eve”. My next guest, Helen Plumridge, doubled her revenue last year and is on course to double again this year. But she didn't achieve success overnight - it's been more of a marathon than a sprint. Over a 20 year career, Helen's experienced her share of setbacks and disappointments including the failure of her first recruitment business startup. Other areas of huge learning include choosing the right business model, hiring the right people and growing into leadership. Plus, the usual challenges of balancing business, fitness goals and family life. In this episode, you will hear Helen's story of resilience and how she grew her recruitment business with the right combination of motivation, strategy, team, and partners. She discusses her partnership with Recruitment Entrepreneur and shares the key factors that contributed to doubling her revenue in the last year. Helen is the founder of King Recruit and King Executive, a partnership-led recruitment and search industry working with high-growth, small and medium sized companies in the South-West of England. Episode Outline and Highlights [1:10] Why Helen's first recruitment business didn't succeed and what she learned from that experience.  [5:08] Looking back at her career, what would Helen have done differently? [7:18] Why Helen launched King Recruit after taking a break to have kids. [12:50] How Helen won a large account which helped grow their business drastically. [16:40] How to articulate your candidate's ROI to potential clients. [30:00] Helen's insights on scaling her team. [34:37] King Recruit's business model, why and how they partnered with Recruitment Entrepreneur. [41:37] How King Recruit doubled their turnover last year.   [47:07] Managing and motivating your team / the “build a business within the business” approach. [51:05] Helen reveals some hiring learning from the past and what their hiring process looks like today. [59:04] The pros and cons of hiring experienced recruiters. [1:02:00] Helen shares her adventure when she ran the Great Wall of China marathon. Articulating the ROI of Hiring Your Candidate One of Helen's incredible success stories is how they won a large account when they were just starting as a small business. On her 40th birthday, they signed up a fast-growing client with whom they ultimately placed over 200 people. You will hear from Helen how they won that account - including how they got their foot in the door. Helen revealed best practices for marketing your hot candidates and how to articulate the potential return-on-investment when presenting them to clients. The following takeaways were elaborated in our discussion: Wordsmithing. Use compelling subject lines when introducing your candidate. Identifying and communicating the quantifiable achievements of your candidate. Putting forth the value and result they can provide for the company. Bob Marshall's FAB presentation (Featur, Accomplishment, Benefit) How They Doubled Revenue Last Year Another key highlight of this interview is how they doubled their turnover last year and are on the way to again double their turnover this year, after partnering with Recruitment Entrepreneur. What were the key factors that led to this momentum? “Setting that bar higher,” is how it was described by Helen.  It involves understanding the P&L (Profit and Loss) in more detail, looking at performance per head, and being more strategic by using real-time data. Setting the bar higher and believing that it is achievable is what moves Helen's team. By joining the Recruitment Entrepreneur platform, Helen also found that it is far more achievable to reach the next level.  A Culture of Building a Business Within a Business Helen also fosters a culture of hiring highly motivated people and giving them the freedom to run their desk in their way. This culture of ‘building a business within a business does not in any way compromise the King Recruiting's way of doing things. As Helen explained, “It is not without systems and processes and vision.”  Helen is not a fan of micro-managing. They empower their recruiters in business development, marketing, and client approach so long as it is aligned with King Recruiting's way of working. This is also one of the reasons why they are more inclined to hire seasoned and mature recruiters - on which we discussed the pros and cons in this call. The most common question I get is “Can you help me create a dialed-in elevator pitch?”  That’s because at the first mention of “messaging,” people often think we’re talking about wordsmithing.  It’s not about getting the words right. It’s about being a Messenger. Yes, clear, connected messaging is important for people to understand the impact of your work and know if it’s for them. But that’s not your primary job. (You can hire a copywriter for that, wink wink.) Your primary job is to be the Messenger and deliver the message.  In episode 161, we talk about how the most powerful thing you can do for your message is to make the shift from messaging to Messenger. Listen in. Deeper support from me: What’s your Messenger Archetype? Take the quiz. In this time of quarantines, your online messaging is key. As a Copywriter + Messaging Expert, I craft copy that makes your dream clients feel SEEN and conveys the true value and impact of your work so that it moves them to sign up. Interested? I’d love to chat. Have you ever gotten hung up on wordsmithing something? Let me know in the comments over on Instagram.  Warmth, Adria

And while the IG believes political bias did not play a role, Professor Giordano lays out several criminal statutes that were violated, and those who abused their power must be held to account. Tennessee has implemented a controversial drug law that liberals are opposed to since it would punish any woman who gave birth to a child that was addicted to or harmed by any narcotics taken during her pregnancy. I will go into why I am not seeing the big problem here and the flaws in some of the arguments being made against the law. Finally, Democrats need better wordsmiths. I will go over a recent fundraising request I received by the DSCC about a so called voter supression law. Their sloppy writing makes them an easy target. I will also review other examples, one from Louisiana, where Democrats have shown an inability to make the argument correctly. How to expertly craft your email for high open rates and click rates. http://escapethematrix.net/howtowriteanemail/ Here are some of the e-mail marketing points that you must understand and apply if you want to be successful in turning your prospects into buyers: Know your audience! Speak their language! Questions you should ask regarding your target niche: -How old are they? -What is the gender break down between male and female? -What type of social movements are they likely to follow? For example, if your audience is over 40, they would respond better to references to Downton Abbey than to Justin Timberlake. -What problems do they have? What keeps them up at night worrying? (and how does your product or service help solve their problems?) Subject lines -purpose (get people to read, that’s it) -length (4 to 5 words is ideal) -Personalization (no!) -Arouse curiosity! Email Body -small easily digestible blocks of text -clear call to action “click on this link,” not “buy this product” -Do’s and don’ts Not too many links Only ONE call to action Prospect must see clear VALUE FOR THEM in clicking on your link Offers -Be generous -target your potential buyer -Sell benefits, not features Getting into inboxes -Using the right tool -don’t use spam words! “Join us to fight child pornography! Your dollars will help!” -won’t get in anybody’s inbox!
