She also watched 2018's Halloween (Fubo or rent), which is the sequel starring Jamie Lee Curtis that she also really loved.   Caroline's TLC Corner: Caroline stayed in the TLC/Discovery+ reality tv realm and watched 90 Day Fiancé, which she loves, and a spin-off show focusing on one couple called The Family Chantel, which she also highly recommends if you are into that kind of thing. Lastly, she recommends the show I Love a Mama's Boy, that she likes to use as a teaching moment for Berto.  Berto on the Bed: Berto and Caroline watched the Hell House LLC sequels (Tubi, Shudder) and both agreed they do NOT live up to the original, and REC (Fubo), which they both really liked. Solo, he watched the Rob Zombie movie Lords of Salem (Prime), which is just bad. He also saw John Carpenter's The Fog (Prime), which he felt had some good elements but the beginning was rough, and the Dragon agrees. Finally, he saw Hell Baby on Tubi - his new place to find c-grade horror - which is a comedy with horror elements that he said was a fun 100 minutes.  This week's deep dive is the 2011 found footage horror movie Grave Encounters, currently streaming on Amazon Prime.

In his write up, Faraci said, “I’m not sure why this guy isn’t one of the biggest comedy stars in the universe, but we still have time to correct this oversight, and Hell Baby will help.” Maybe, maybe not, but Key & Peele did. The history-making comic duo (Key and partner Jordan Peele) met at MADtv, where they were originally cast against each other so parent network FOX could pick one black actor for the permanent ensemble. Obvious questions about that strategy aside, the network recognized chemistry when they saw it and hired them both. Even “black actor” seems a slightly ridiculous term for two bi-racial comics who refused to see black culture as a monolith and any culture, topic, or character as off-limits for comic cannon fodder. Their two-man parade of seemingly endless impersonations (and wigs) broadened and became even funnier when Key & Peele became its own sketch show on Comedy Central in 2012, sparing neither gay nor straight, young nor old, Asian nor Latino, black nor white, nor icons modern or historic. Not even vampires couldn’t escape ridicule. In its eulogy for the best TV comedy shows ending runs in 2015 (including The Colbert Report, David Letterman on The Late Show, and Parks and Recreation), The Atlantic said, “The departure of Key & Peele deserves to be remembered as the biggest loss of them all, because it was the only example of a show ending when it still had so much originality and energy left...The originality, charm, intensity, and fearlessness of Key & Peele will be impossible to replace.” Key’s own abilities as a dauntless comic surrogate for almost any faction of society brought him to the attention of President Obama, who was in need of an Official Anger Translator for the 2015 White House Correspondents’ Dinner. It’s probably the first time the event has racked up over 7.3 million YouTube views—no mean feat in a town that regularly offers up a bottomless smorgasbord of things to laugh at. Key’s rejection of any single racial or comedic stereotype appears to have started early and to have influenced his career path. Adopted as a child by a bi-racial couple in Michigan, he discovered a passion for theater in high school, largely because of the multi-cultural kids it attracted. He saw that unlike so many of us in high school, these kids joined drama not out of the desire to belong to a certain group, but out of love for their craft. He pursued his MFA in Theater at Penn State with the intention of becoming a “poor, happy, artistically fulfilled” dramatic actor, doing regional theater and Shakespeare festivals. But for a guy whose knee-jerk reaction to anyone who says, “There’s no way to make this funny” is an immediate and compulsive need to prove otherwise, a comedy detour was probably inevitable. That, and he’s just a damn funny guy. Though Devin Faraci has been proven right about Key’s talent several times over by now, we wouldn’t be surprised if his review of the upcoming Don’t Think Twice is only four words: “I told you so.” And then there’s the tantalizing rumor of a script-in-the-works with Peele and Judd Apatow, who’s said he thinks the duo are “capable of making a movie America desperately needs right now.” All we know is that a film from a triumvirate like that is one we desperately need to see right now. Key and Co. aren’t sharing details, so if Luther is still available, we’d like to hire him to send a little message to our friend Keegan: GET OUT OF OUR DAMN STUDIO AND GO MAKE IT, ALREADY.

This month they look at six -- count them, six! -- books, all of which embody the eerie holiday spirit in some way. That makes this a extra-long episode, clocking in at over two and a half hours, the longest manga show the Two Guys have ever produced. They begin with a classic example of horror manga, Hideshi Hino's Hell Baby (Blast Books), and then move on to the medium's most notable practitioner of the genre, Junji Ito and his 2014 collection Fragments of Horror (VIZ Media). They then turn up the creep factor with Usamaru Furuya's Lychee Light Club (Vertical Comics) and Jun Abe's Portus (VIZ Media). Finally, the guys conclude with two brand new titles from Kodansha Comics, Kazuhiro Fujita's The Black Museum: The Ghost and the Lady, Book 1 and the shojo anthology Neo Parasyte F. The latter is a fifteen-story celebration of Hitoshi Iwaaki's classic Parasyte series, which ran from 1988 to 1995. In their extensive discussions, Shea and Derek visit such topics as the juxtaposition of cute and gross, why the grotesque may become a writing crutch, the many uses of gender ambiguity, if video games are inherently spooky, and how Florence Nightingale can be quite sexy. That's right, folks, it's all here!

First they look at the demon spawn of The State, Hell Baby and try to see if it rises above Scary Movie status, then, the five fingers travel to dear old Ireland to wash that down with a few pints of Grabbers. Which one garners more chuckles, a raunchy pseudo-spoof or a dry take on the old-time monster movies? You have to listen to find out. Plus, you get Mike's News and a spirited discussion of the 11 top douchebags in horror cinema, a topic the guys are experts in. This and so much more in a "hilarious" episode of SlasherCast.

In this episode of the Slice & Dice podcast, Steve and Dan are bearing their adamantium claws and carving up the latest X-Men related flick, The Wolverine. It can't be worse than Wolverine Origins, can it? Can it? We're also talking about some of the big news out of Comic Con this year. We share cautious optimism on the Batman/Superman team up, fawn over Joss Whedon's announcement of Ultron as the big bad in Avengers 2, hope that the new Godzilla flick returns the monster to glory and wonder about the Simpsons/Family Guy crossover episode. Listen in on our mini reviews of Stoker, Hell Baby, Only God Forgives, The Conjuring, The Way Way Back and Trance.

In this episode, I have the pleasure of chatting with producer/director David Lincoln ("Reno 911," “Reno 911 Miami," "Hell Baby," “Balls Of Fury," “The Hunger Pains," “Funny Or Die Presents"). David worked his way up from set PA to producer on the show “Reno 911" and has been heavily involved in bringing more laughter to the world since. We talk about everything from slating on “Buffy The Vampire Slayer" to directing for Funny Or Die to being complimented by Robin Williams for a very particular performance. DAVID LINCOLN’S BIO David Lincoln is a producer and director with very serious eyebrows. Born in Manhattan and raised in the San Fernando Valley, he studied at Hampshire College and taught English in Toyama, Japan, before returning to Los Angeles for a career in film and television.  He is producing partner to Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant and has worked with them for almost a decade on projects such as the Comedy Central series Reno 911!, Focus Features’ Balls of Fury, and the Fox film Reno 911!:Miami, as well as pilots for NBC, FX, and more. He wrote and directed a number of FunnyOrDie shorts, as well as the “trailer" for the Harvard Lampoon’s The Hunger Pains. Recently, he Executive Produced and Directed 2nd Unit on the forthcoming Millennium film Hell Baby, which stars Rob Corddry and Leslie Bibb as an expectant couple moving into a very haunted house, Garant and Lennon as elite Vatican exorcists, and Keegan-Michael Key as their maybe-neighbor, maybe-sleeping-in-their-crawlspace-guy. The film debuted at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. He is currently in pre-production on @Midnight with Chris Hardwick, coming this fall on Comedy Central.

Alex Berg joins Jen this week to discuss the nerdy wonders that are TED Talks, the lectures on technology, entertainment, and design given throughout the year at various TED events as well as provided free online. From robotics to ancient relics to defining life, love, and consciousness, there's a TED talk for just about everyone, though Alex and Jen admittedly geek out primarily over the talks that fall under TED's "T." Of course, that doesn't mean they haven't also watched talks about porn and sex toys. They are human, after all.
