The teen years are an emotional roller coaster in your daughter's life. She still needs you . . . but sometimes you honestly don't know what to do. Navigating these complicated teen years with her own four daughters, Stacey Thacker, author of Praying for Teen Girls: Partner with God for the Heart of Your Daughter, offers wisdom and practical help from the trenches. Stacey admits, “If you feel like an unlikely prayer warrior when it comes to praying for your teen girl, please know that I still struggle with the term. I’m seeing God use me, and getting used to the idea that just like in the Bible, God can use people like me. I think He delights in doing so. In the process He is transforming me as He grows my faith and makes me more like His Son.” We need to understand that when we honestly pray for our girls to be strong, sometimes God perfects his strength in them when they come to the end of themselves. We may not want to, but we must get out of the way and pray that very prayer. As we pray for our teen girl, we need to be bold enough to pray that her first friendship will be Jesus. That she will define her life by His unconditional love for her, model her life after his, and look for friends who point her to Him every step of the way. Lastly, our teen girls want to be prayed for every single day. They want you to be bold enough to ask Jesus for a favor on their behalf. They want to believe prayer works. And more than anything, we want to pray, “Lord, light her path,” so that she will take the next right step no matter what.Donate to Moody Radio: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/morningshow/wgnbSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Do you know The Dad Whisperer? Dr. Michelle Watson Canfield is a unique voice in men's ministry. She shares the story of how God called her into ministering to fathers. As a woman in the fathering space, she is a voice of encouragement to dads who want to understand how to relate better to their daughters.   Dr. Watson founded The Abba Project in 2010 to help dads connect with their daughters' hearts. She's authored “Dad, Here's What I Really Need from You: A Guide for Connecting with Your Daughter's Heart” and “Let's Talk, Conversation Starters for Dads and Daughters.” She currently hosts a podcast called The Dad Whisperer, where she provides practical resources for dads, especially those with daughters.  In this episode, she reveals:  The easy way – not the hard way – to connect with your daughter.  The key to opening your daughter's heart.  Tips many men say helped them to be a better dad and a better husband too.  Action steps for men to fight for their daughters.  If you're antsy about listening to a female, don't be. Ways To Increase Communication With Your Athlete Daughter

Communication between parents and athletes is important, there's no denying that. But what if they start to communicate less? Some parents conclude that this situation comes with age. As their children get older, they tend to communicate less. That's true.  Another reason why they communicate less is because we're not asking better questions. What can we do when that situation arises? Dive in to learn about simple ways to increase your communication with your athlete daughter!Giving The Opportunity for Your Daughter to Open UpI want to share with you a comment from Nicole, one of our Elite Competitor Program moms, that she shared after working through our Powerful Pep-Talk phase. If you're not familiar, it is part of our Elite Competitor Program, a mental training program for female athletes, and in that program we train both the athlete and their moms on how to have Powerful Pep Talks. Here's what she said, “I love this lesson and the reminder of my role as a parent and to keep it simple. I'm also grateful for more dialogue that's opening up with my daughter, who came to me this weekend saying: you said to let me know if there's something you can do better to support me. And honestly, it would be helpful if you smile more at me. Even when something doesn't go well on the court, it makes me feel positive.”This is a result of our mental training program. Learning is power. We teach moms what to say before, during, and after competitions and how to strengthen their mental game, how to work on their own confidence, because we know how it influences their daughters.Their daughters also work on themselves through the athlete modules.I'm setting it as an example of what happens when moms give their best to learn how to support their daughters in a better way. Two Keys to Know What Your Daughter NeedsBy giving the opportunities to train her mental skills, Nicole's daughter learned to be vocal and specific about what she needs from her mom, and that's how Nicole opened up this opportunity for her daughter to open up. How can you help apply this with your daughter? There's two keys here:Shape the environment. When we talk about shaping the environment, we're talking about your verbal and your nonverbal communication with your daughter.  We teach things that we can say to build long term confidence in your daughter and how you show up for her as her role model. So, make sure that you're investing in opportunities to learn how to shape the environment for your daughter, and not just guessing what to do.Provide the opportunities. Provide opportunities for her not just outwardly, but also inwardly. Give her the opportunity to understand what she needs from you to get where she wants to be. Overall, a simple thing that moms can do to increase communication with their daughter is by opening up the opportunity to ask:“What can I do to support you?”“What is helpful for me to say and do?” Good communication happens when you give opportunities for your daughter to learn how to advocate for themselves and how to develop those mental skills. **********Helpful Links:Join our FREE training for Sports Moms - How To Strengthen Your Athlete Daughter's Mental Game Without Being Pushy Or Saying The Wrong Thing. The BEST way to help us spread the word and get this information into the hands of millions of parents, coaches, and female athletes is by leaving**If you're looking for a way to help your athlete daughter come back from mistakes, stop beating herself up and start playing to her potential... without being pushy or worrying about what to say... join our FREE training: www.trainhergame.com**

Key Points, Top Takeaways and Memorable Quotes - “Again, on the weekends, when I was with them, I was kinda full on dad because I figured I have got to make up for the fact that I'm just not around here as often as I would have wanted to be.” 8:25“Don't make everything look perfect.  If you're having a bad day, you can say to your kids, “Dad's just not having a good day today.” 11:12“It was really important that she always knew, and she really liked this, that neither her mother nor I were living vicariously through her and her sport.  This was her's, her decision, if she wanted to stop, stop, if you want to continue, continue, we really tried and we really kept an eye on her mental health.”  22:58“I come back to this whole point of asking questions.  We always talked to both kids like adults. We didn't do a lot of goo goo gah gah stuff and all that.  They also came everywhere with us.” 24:37“I get this all the time, “Do you exercise all the time because of your body and how you look? I'm like, no, this is 95% for the neck up, 5% for the neck down, and I really strongly believe that.” 25:30“I do think you just have to look at your kids and figure out what is something that may work for them.” 30:43“Expose your kids to everything.  Let them decide what they want to do, but the more exposed they get, the more educated, the more knowledgeable, the more they know how to respond to situations just because you give them that opportunity.” 32:12“I couldn't believe it when I read this article that 94% of all women in Fortune 500 C Suites, 94%, were former athletes.” 37:26“Our job too, as parents, is to provide bookends, to see where they are going and help navigate that stream.  And if it needs to open up a little bit, fine.  If you need to fine tune it a little bit fine, but you really need to have a pulse on where your child is going. 41:12“For your parents, listening: who you choose as your friends has a significant impact on your children.” 47:35“I say this to people all the time with an Entrepreneurial idea: figure out if it's a human capital business or like, something you can produce, you know, a widget, a clothing store, do you know what I'm trying to say, a bookstore.” 49:31“Hands down, don't take yourself so seriously, Jim.  Knock it off.  Don't be so hard on yourself.” 51:01“The poor want to be rich, the rich want to be happy.  The single wanna be married, and the married want to be dead.” -Jim quoted Dear Abby @ 52:43 Guest Bio - Jim Karas is a Lifestyle Expert who combines a degree from the Wharton School of Business with 36+ years of unparalleled success in helping people look and feel their very best.Jim is the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller, The Business Plan for the Body, the New York Times bestsellers, The Cardio-Free Diet, The 7-Day Energy Surge, The Petite Advantage Diet, Flip The Switch and The Ultimate Diet Revolution. Dr. Canfield's goal with Let's Talk is to help dads close the communication gap with their daughters by showing them how to listen and build trust with insights and scripted questions that equip them to move from fun get-to-know-you chats to deep discussions that dive into their daughters' struggles, hurts, fears, and hopes. This week Amy and Mike talk with author Linsey Driskill about her new book Beautiful Hearted Women of the Bible: A Creative Mother-Daughter Devotional. Enjoy Valuable Time with Your Daughter and the Lord by Connecting through Stories, Questions, Prayer, Action, and Creativity. Beautiful Hearted Women of the Bible is a creative and interactive 40-week devotional that provides a sweet space for moms and daughters ages 6–10 years old to grow in their relationship with God and each other. Each devotion features a woman of the Bible who loved the Lord and loved others. Learning about the fortitude and inner beauty of these women will inspire both moms and daughters to develop beautiful hearts of strength, courage, and love and will ultimately point them to Jesus. Beautiful Hearted Women of the Bible reaches beyond the mind to the heart, connecting moms and daughters and raising up difference-makers for Jesus. Linsey Driskill has been married almost fifteen years, has ten-year-old triplets, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, and is an author and speaker. She loves encouraging families in following Jesus and His words: to love God and love others. Linsey is from Atlanta, Georgia and now lives in South Carolina. She has led educational awareness trips in Guatemala, taught elementary and middle school students at an inner-city Atlanta school, and directed Villages of Hope, a nonprofit supporting former foster children and homeless youth. Linsey loves spontaneity, authenticity, simplicity and a good cup of coffee! Linsey is author of "Beautiful Hearted Women of the Bible: A Creative Mother-Daughter Devotional", published by Focus on the Family.

In our now-weekly segment addressing “sanctuary cities for the unborn” we are soliciting jingle entries from our listeners. Yikes! Parenthood doesn’t come with an instruction manual. So as you and I try to write our own job description, you might say your job is to raise responsible, independent adults. Or it’s to raise godly children who love Jesus with all of their hearts. Or maybe it’s to raise kids who make good choices and have strong character. But as you work so hard to achieve those goals in your home, you just become stressed and feel like a failure as a parent. Today’s guest, Crystal Paine, is here to offer a whole new way of looking at our life as moms and dads. She shares her own parenting crisis that began a journey of transformation to understand Why moms and dads carry so much stress, doubt, and discouragement in parenting What your child needs most from you in their hardest moments Why learning to “live as loved” changes everything The lies you believe about yourself as a parent The difference between rules-based and relationship-based parenting How to find freedom in letting go of your kids   Crystal Paine is the founder of MoneySavingMom.com host of “The Crystal Paine Show” podcast, New York Times bestselling author of Say Goodbye to Survival Mode, and author of Money-Making Mom. She lives with her husband and kids in the Nashville, Tennessee area, where she is actively involved in her local church. Her biggest passions are helping women understand how the Gospel can radically transform their lives, raising awareness for foster care, going on adventures with her family (locally, domestically, and internationally), finding great deals at the grocery store, heartfelt conversations, and trying to read too many books at one time! In Crystal’s latest book, Love-Centered Parenting, she shares her own parenting stories—the good, the bad, and the ugly—what she’s learned, and how she’s shifted into a love-centered model of raising her children. And because you can’t give what you don’t have, she first had to let God reparent her, relearning to parent from the inside out. BrokenGirl Unchained Podcast

While this is not a podcast, it does represent someone very special to me. My Father. My hero. My Best Friend. He has been a musician his entire life and he has been there for me through all my trials and errors and continues to love me unconditionally. I couldn't think of a better way to give a tribute to this amazing man, than to put some of his music out there for everyone to enjoy. He is one of the main men I have always looked up to. He has taught me honor, loyalty, self respect and respect for others. He has taught my children music as well as myself. My family is musically inclined and to us music feeds the soul. I know you will enjoy this track just as much as I do every day that I am blessed to get another day with my father. I love you daddy-yo. I will forever be Your lil Girl, Your favorite, Your Loud Cloud, Your Daughter, Your Best Friend. You will forever be my heart & soul along with my children. Merry Christmas Papa! I love you more than you'll ever know. To those that would like to hear more of my father music, I will have a special link to his youtube channel on my website soon. Happy Holidays!

Donnetta Johnson lost her son Jonah to depression in 2009. Her experience was as life-changing as it was heartbreaking. She founded the My Son, Your Daughter, The Jonah Johnson Youth Scholarship Fund to raise money to help parents prevent the needless deaths that depression causes. Johnson says she thought she knew about depression and thought she and her family could “work through” the issues with her son. Now she knows different and is working to help other parents better understand the risks of depression and the need to treat it with a full family effort--in addition to help from medical professionals. Johnson successfully raised $3,000 on CaringCrowd.org, to help prevent more suicides. CaringCrowd is operated by Johnson & Johnson, which typically matches individual donations of up to $250, effectively reducing the effort required to raise money. Never miss another interview! Nearly a decade ago, a wonderful photographer shared an eye-opening project called Where Children Sleep. I’ve never forgotten the dozens of images that show the disparity of what kids around the globe call bed. The intention was to elicit more empathy in kids, but even as a grown woman, I find it’s a much-needed reminder that everyone’s experiences are unique. From one Kentucky toddler with dozens of pageant ribbons on display in her princess-like bedroom to a young Nepalese girl who lives in a one-room house near the granite quarry where she works, girls experience life differently but absolutely share the right to be heard and have their stories told.
