This gets both hosts speculating on what this means, and why it sometimes now gets harder and harder to support official publishers. 18:59: Netflix continues making some deals as they’ve worked out a partnership with MAPPA and will be working with TOHO (and their new studio) to produce a bunch of works in a couple years 21:35: We got some hiatuses and returns to cover, starting with The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses manga being continued; after just not having any new chapters since 2022, The Girl, the Shovel, and the Evil Eye manga will return and also finish in a couple chapters; Kemono Jihen is taking a one-issue break due to Sho Aimoto suffering from gastroenteritis to start 2026; Phantom Busters will be on break as something’s going on with Neoshoco, the hosts hope they’re ok; The hosts break down what the heck’s going on with The New Prince of Tennis series as it went through some major editor mismanagement, enough to wear there could not be a new chapter in Jump SQ; The Days of Diamond will go on hiatus, no announcement on its return; Bocchi the Rock! was intended to return this month, but Aki Hamaji’s health has not improved enough to return to serialization, so the hiatus will continue; and in final manga hiatuses, Hajime no Ippo’s taking a break, no announcement on when it’ll return. 25:38: Makes sense that Go Nagai will be inducted into this year’s Eisner’s Hall of Fame, took them long enough; Manga creator Hisashi Eguchi apologized in December after tracing allegations were made back in October that had a number of companies suspend working with him; Chitose in the Ramune Bottle’s got some work to do following its delay due to production issues; And apparently A Tale of the Secret Saint needs more work as it’s been pushed from Spring to Fall season; What in the world is going with the Madoka movie? Well no one knows except that’s now been delayed from its release this month to an unannounced date; and the voice of Hitomi Koshigaya, Yumiri Hanamori, stepped down from the role for an undisclosed reason. So for the upcoming Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc. anime, there will need to be a new voice for her. 30:53: Talent agency Aoni Production announced that voice actor Kōzō Shioya had died on January 20 due to cerebral hemorrhage — a number of people noted his impact on them and sent their condolences on social media on this difficult loss. We cover a lot of ground in this interview, including how Sarah and Tom decided to leave their careers to start a flower farm, how Grateful Gardeners is the only cut flower farm we know of to be incorporating aquaponics, and what the heck aquaponics even is. We talk about the ups and downs of raising money from investors to help establish a farm- and how this is routine in Silicon Valley but in farming, not so much. We discuss how outside investment could accelerate the development of local farms; however one of the barriers to attracting investors to farming is that the returns are not typically as high as from the tech sector. So investors have to have a desire to help advance regenerative farming in addition to the capital to get investment to work in farming. We also talk about how the Grateful Gardeners' business and markets have changed as their farm has grown, and their work to incorporate aquaponics into the farm. Aquaponics is a soilless growing system, where the fertility is provided by fish living in tanks connected to the water for the plants. Instead of adding fertilizer, the fish provide the fertility through their natural biological processes moderated by bacteria that naturally occur in the environment, though there is an art and a science to managing the system. A coroner's inquest into the death of 16-year-old Lexi Daken ended with 10 recommendations to improve mental health care in the province. The CBC's Mia Urquhart sat down with Lexi's father, Chris Daken, after the inquest ended.

This week, people in Fredericton attended the coroner's inquest into the death of 16 year-old Lexi Daken. She died by suicide in 2021. Her father, Chris Daken, comments on the inquest's results and the changes that have happened since his daughter's death. And on the phone-in: How can we best preserve farmland in the Maritimes? Our guests are Jamie Baxter in NS and Keisha Rose Topic on PEI.

Lexi Daken's family has been advocating for change since the 16 year old died by suicide in February of 2021. A coroner's jury endorsed 12 recommendations made by the Horizon Health Network and they made 10 recommendations of their own, including increasing awareness about available mental health services. John Sharpe has been paying close attention to these issues. He's the executive director for Partners for Youth.

In De Waterwetenschappers stellen Tim en Els watervragen aan onderzoekers van wateronderzoeksinstituut KWR. Het project waar over gesproken wordt in deze podcast heet Urban PhotoSynthesis, en betrokken zijn onder meer Aedes als vastgoedinvesteerder, KWR Water Research Institute, de gemeente Amsterdam, ECOFYT, Techniplan Adviseurs, Permavoid en SDR Elektrotechniek. Het project is mede gefinancierd met PPS-financiering uit de Toeslag voor Topconsortia voor Kennis en Innovatie (TKI's) van het ministerie van Economische Zaken en Klimaat.

Zorginstelling Zonnehuizen was het laatste redmiddel voor kinderen en volwassenen met beperkingen; de kwetsbare mensen waar de rest van de samenleving geen raad meer mee weet. Ouders van meervoudig gehandicapte kinderen waren maar wat blij met de uitgebreide zorg op maat. Ook geestelijk gehandicapte volwassenen vonden bij Zonnehuizen een veilig thuis met goede zorg. Zij woonden veelal bij de zorggroep tot hun overlijden.  Door het hele land werkten in de hoogtijdagen van deze antroposofische stichting rond de 2300 medewerkers in woongroepen, speciale onderwijsinstellingen en allerlei andere voorzieningen. Geld is lang geen probleem voor stichting Zonnehuizen. Er wordt zelfs een serie overnames gedaan van andere antroposofische organisaties. Maar eind jaren nul gaat het de verkeerde kant op: achter de schermen wordt de financiële chaos steeds groter. En het imposante vastgoed van de antroposofen begint letterlijk af te brokkelen. Ondertussen roept directeur Frans Broekhuizen dat het allemaal wel goed komt. Hij moet mei 2011 het veld ruimen. Een interim-bestuurder probeert te redden wat er te redden valt en een faillissement te voorkomen, maar dat mag niet meer baten. Zonnehuizen gaat bankroet op 27 december 2011. Hoe heeft het zo ver kunnen komen? Als we wereldwijd méér zonnepanelen willen (en dat willen we, want topidee om de klimaatopwarming tegen te gaan), dan moet er nog 't één en ander veranderen aan de zonnepanelen van nu. Ze zouden best nog wat langer meegaan, efficiënter gefabriceerd worden, niet alleen op daken liggen en uit andere materialen gemaakt worden. Professor Bart Vermang, ingenieur aan de UHasselt, doet in Energyville onderzoek naar slimmere en betere zonnepanelen.

Kasper Spaan (Senior Beleidsadviseur Klimaatadaptatie bij Waternet), legt uit hoe Internet of Things helpt met het verbeteren van de leefomgeving door de stad met blauwe daken te versponzen. IoT-technologie in combinatie met lokale wetgeving (Hemelwaterverordening) verlaagd hittestress, verhoogd opbrengst van zonnepanelen en maakt de stad gereed voor de toekomst.
