Hello and welcome to another episode of Educators and Immigration. It has been a while since I have released an episode. The reason is because I was traveling with our guests for today Erika Rosales and Yesenia Villalpando-Torres. We are the steering committee for the Mexico International Study Opportunity for Learning (MISOL) program and this December and January, we had a cohort of 18 participants who traveled to Mexico for a life-changing opportunity. Erika and Yesenia are strong activists for the immigrant community at the local, state, and national levels. They are always looking for ways to support undocumented, DACAmented, and immigrant populations. Erika Rosale is the Director for the Center for DREAMers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and she was a guest on this podcast back in episode 009 where we discussed the Center and all the amazing work they are doing. Additionally, she is a Diversity and Inclusion Specialist at WIDA which is housed within the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER). Erika is also a 4W Director of Immigration and Human Rights. We also have Yesenia Villalpando-Torres who is a Project Assistant for the Center for DREAMers. She is also an Immigration Affairs Social Worker for Dane County Department of Human Services where she works to support immigrants throughout the entire county. She is an inspirational community leader and activist. She works with community to establish programs and services. For example, she set up a DACA renewal event to connect individuals with lawyers and financial resources for their renewal process. The court ruled that DACA is unconstitutional, but will allow DACA recipients to continue to renew their permits and for the Advance Parole program to continue. Those who applied for DACA in 2021 will not have their applications processed and the government is not accepting new applications. #daca #dacamented #undocumented --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rafael-vazquez7/support
Y no estarán aceptando nuevas aplicaciones ahorita. #DACA #DACAmented #undocumented --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rafael-vazquez7/support

Surprise, surprise...Due to recent changes to U.S. immigration law, travel outside of the United States may have severe consequences for aliens who are in the process of adjusting their status, upon return, these aliens may be found inadmissible, and their applications may be denied, or both. As for DACA recipients, you can be found inadmissible and trigger a bar if you leave without Avance Parole. Please listen to this episode, live AND TRAVEL free.

Weekly Recap of Aug. 21 - Sept. 3, 2017 - DACA, Advance Parole, Immigration Court Decisions, ICE, EB-5 Suit, Humanitarian Reinstatement & Co-Counseling
On this week's 51%, we hear about a women's prison choir. We also hear how homeless female veterans are finding refuge. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, nearly six in every 10 women incarcerated in U.S. state prisons are survivors of physical or sexual violence. Prison often compounds the trauma. Amanda Weber had this in mind when she started a choir inside the women's prison in Shakopee, Minnesota. Natalie Pollard joined. The two are working together to start what's thought to be the country's first re-entry choir. KFAI's Anna Stitt reports. Female veterans in New York without a permanent place to live have strikingly few options — and with the COVID-19 pandemic stretching on, they face more challenges than ever. Just a warning, this story contains details some listeners will find difficult to hear. 51%'s Jackie Orchard reports. Motus Monologues the UndocuAmerica Series, features stories from the front lines of your undocumented neighbors. The stories were developed as part of a creative collaboration between Motus Theater in Colorado, and a group of undocumented people living in the U.S. In this monologue, you'll hear Kiara Chavez speak about returning to Mexico for the first time since she was four. She was able to travel as part of the Advance Parole program, which once allowed youth with DACA (or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) status to leave the country for work, education or humanitarian reasons. These visits are no longer allowed because the Advance Parole program was terminated in 2017. Follow us on Twitter @51PercentRadio This week's show is #1622.
