Today's episode is part two of a four-part series looking at successful businesses and taking the techniques they've used to become massively successful and thinking about how we can apply those to our businesses in the online space. This episode covers the Amazon Effect: the fact that the quicker people get results, the more likely they are going to want to be repeat customers for a long time. This isn't rooted in psychology but my personal take on Amazon's success. When applying it to the offers we create in our own businesses, I'll dive into questions to ask yourself to get people from point A (their pain point) to point B (the result they want) as fast as possible to achieve a higher completion rate. For this episode of the eCom Logistics Podcast, we welcome Steven Ciemcioch, President of Warehouse Anywhere. He discusses how they created a preferred partner network of other mid-sized to large independent storage operators. This network allowed them to source storage for their customers from 12,000 different locations. In order to make this process more efficient, they also developed RFID technology to help manage the process and provide real-time updates on inventory.Steven, along with Dan and Ninaad, also discusses the Amazon Effect, how consumer expectations have changed due to this, what brands and logistics companies must do to keep up, and the various factors that influence if and when they should match this speed of fulfillment. ABOUT STEVENSteven Ciemcioch was named President of Warehouse Anywhere, a Life Storage Company, in 2018 and previously served as Corporate Alliance Manager in which he developed and headed the corporate sales division at Life Storage. He has extensive experience in building and scaling businesses in a high-growth environment. He has leadership experience across a diverse set of disciplines including sales and marketing, customer service, operations, supply chain, real estate, and finance. A lot of apparel like Ninaad talked about but I see the MFCs evolving more into that health and beauty, that craft beer space, especially we talk about dense marketplace. People sitting around in a large city, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, big demand weeknights and weekends where they just want something and they just want it quick." We hear talk of the "Amazon Effect" that seems to be wiping out retail in the form we knew it. As a leader, even outside of retail, what might be the writing on the wall that requires you to adapt, even if it's in a counter intuitive manner? In our third episode of the Center of Everywhere Podcast, researcher Kelly Asche explores the topic of the amazon effect on retail and local tax revenue with UMN Extension community economics educators Neil Linscheid and Ryan Pesch. Online sales have permeated everyday life and their impacts stretch beyond convenience of shopping. Local leaders see the evidence every day in their communities: more and more delivery trucks going down their roads, stopping at their neighbors' or their own houses, dropping off products that were once maybe purchased in their own or a nearby community. They're also seeing the closure of retail storefronts. They hear about their local landfills reaching capacity earlier than predicted due to the higher amounts of waste from household deliveries. And after decades of watching businesses move away from their communities to concentrate in economic centers, rural leaders are left wondering if this is the “next shoe to drop” in their community's economic demise. And at the same time, leaders in the economic centers that have benefited from decades of shopping behaviors shifting in their favor now worry that online sales are a threat to the revenue they've been relying on themselves. This episode touches on many of the topics explored the Center's report, The Amazon Effect and Rural Tax Revenues, including the shifting retail landscape in rural communities, the rise of online shopping, and the actions taken by the state of Minnesota to ensure tax revenue from online sales are distributed to the proper county or municipality.
Scot Richardson joins the Real Identity Podcast to share how the cloud has delivered on the promise of measurement with in-flight evaluation and adjustment of campaigns now possible. He discusses the hybrid approaches to campaign optimization from people-based identifiers to anonymized and aggregated views and how nimble analytics help clients become more effective marketers.

Tan asked Michael Van Every during this one-hour interview on Oct 5, 2021, for the podcast series "Interviews of Notables & Influencers": Introduction: For 15 years, Michael Van Every has been the President of Republic Urban Properties (“RUP” for short), one of the largest commercial real estate developers in Silicon Valley. It is also the Bay Area flagship of the Republic Family of Companies, known for developing institutional-quality real estate throughout the United States. Michael works with Federal, State, and Local governments on the creation and development of ‘smart growth' projects, such as master-planned communities near transportation hubs; urban mixed-use projects near major employment centers; and innovative, public-private partnerships. In his 25 years of representing major institutional and private real estate developers in the greater Bay Area, Michael has led complicated projects from land acquisition to completion. Under his leadership, RUP has gained national attention for its Transit Orientated Development (TOD) projects at key transit stations, working as the premier public-private partner with many transit authorities across California. Michael has been involved with the planning, financing, construction, and delivery of 1,238 multifamily units and 145,000 square feet of mixed-use commercial space, 380 hotels rooms, 151,000 square feet of office, and 120,000 square feet of retail in various stages of development, at $1.5 billion in value. A third-generation San Jose native, Michael is an active member of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group. Tell us about yourself, your personal stories, your family: Why do you do what you do? How did your journey end up here? And where is it going? What is the most important thing that you value? What are your biggest accomplishments, and the biggest learning lessons/failures COVID: how is it affecting commercial and residential real estate development? - Office buildings, retails, hotels, apartments, housing, public transit, mixed use projects, etc. How do you view the new remote work impacting new commercial office development? Will the future development of office space have habitational space associated with it? Wildfires, climate change, California's water shortage: How are these three impacting both commercial and residential real estate development? Silicon Valley is full of world's largest monopolies such as Google. Google has been buying land in the Valley. How has that impacted your business? What messages do you have for Silicon Valley giants like Google, Apple, Facebook, Cisco, Oracle, related to the current COVID remote working situations? And related to all their other monopolistic powers, more than COVID's return to work issues? With your deep roots in Silicon Valley for generations, what in your experience makes or breaks your deals in the valley? You said that “Government is 100% responsible for the housing shortage”, please explain why. Will the increase in warehouses due to the “Amazon Effect” permanently continue, while the decrease in brick and mortar retail services lasts beyond the pandemic? What are the challenges for realizing internal ROI for real estate investors? Imagine yourself as someone with money to invest in real estate. What would you invest in right now: industrial properties such as warehouses? Residential townhouses? Duplex? Triplex? Quadplex? Single family homes? Land only?... WHERE would you advise COMMERCIAL real estate investors to invest, if all things are being equal, in Silicon Valley? Or elsewhere? Why? Is AI, smart city, and sustainability technology changing the way the buildings are built? What do you know about “The One” in LA? How do you think the Biden Administration's infrastructure spending can help with real estate development? What can the federal government do to ease the labor shortage? What do you want the state and local governments to do, now and after the pandemic, for the real estate market and the economy? What does your brand stand for?
Sustainable in a Circular World:design and restore natural ecosystems through innovationThe world needs to move from grey to green, fueled by design techniques that are sustainable in a circular economy. Sustainability intentionally maximizes the environmental, social, governance, and digital actions to fully engage its potential around a long-term motivational direction. July 2021 is a big month for Amazon's Founder and former CEO, Jeff Bezos. Not only did he step down as CEO of the company he built into a $1.63 trillion empire, he will also fly into space on the first crewed flight of his New Shepard rocket ship. And yet, the space trip is just the most recent of Bezos' boundary-breaking endeavors. Bezos and his company have revolutionized American business, extending their reach into nearly every industry— from retail, to media, to healthcare, and cloud computing. Brad Stone—the author, most recently, of Amazon Unbound: Jeff Bezos and the Invention of a Global Empire—explains that the e-commerce giant has often seemed “unbound from the laws of corporate gravity.” While most companies eventually plateau, Stone says that Amazon has defied these business norms by continuing to grow rapidly. Stone, a Senior Executive Editor at Bloomberg News with years of experience reporting on the company, examines Amazon's various successes and Bezos' sweeping influence. Specifically, he traces Bezos' transformation from a frugal tech nerd to a buff billionaire whose high-profile divorce made headlines. But what exactly accounts for Amazon's extraordinary rise? If there is one thing that drives Bezos, Stone points out, it's his deep fear of stasis.

Dinis Guarda interviews Bottler Distribution Group CEO Andy Weinstein in this new interview series for citiesabc. Both experts go through major challenges in the #SupplyChainIndustry and how to improve the communication between industries and #sustainability.BDG Founder Andy Weinstein understands distribution. A working member of a third generation Pepsi / Dr Pepper Bottler in the Pacific NW, Andy is intimately involved with the operating networks that affect his family business. He has a lifelong familiarity with the business dynamics of the industry—an industry that delivers physical goods, day in and day out, across America.Andy is witness to a sea change in the distribution industry, that is why he founded BDG. Delivery disruption, aka the Amazon Effect, and changing consumer preferences have rocked mainstream distribution. In response to rapidly changing retail and distribution ecosystems, legacy beverage distribution companies have responded by doing more of what they know, optimizing their beverage lines and cutting costs by cutting employees. But with year-on-year declines in carbonated soft drink volumes and competition from highly efficient logistics and delivery operations, most beverage distributors continue to feel the threat to margins and concern over the implications to future business.About Dinis Guarda profile and Channelshttps://www.openbusinesscouncil.org/w...https://www.dinisguarda.com/https://www.intelligenthq.com/author/...https://www.hedgethink.com/author/din...
What does operations and logistics look like at the extremes? Lisa DeVine, portfolio manager at Leidos, joins MindSET today to discuss this very question. She defines what operations and logistics means, and how those definitions differ based on customer set or industry. And she offers examples of how Leidos is delivering logistic solutions from glaciers to galaxies and everything in between. “In a commercial environment, we often think of logistics as procurement, warehousing and distribution. But in a defense construct, operations and logistics often encompasses other activities such as maintenance operations and transportation.”But what technology is enabling this? How does automation, robotic process automation, autonomy, 3D printing, telemaintenance and wearables fit into the mix?The market is changing constantly, driven by the “Amazon effect” - where customers want and expect more speed and efficiency. Paired with the drive for the application of intelligent technologies and an interest in more resiliency, the role of a logistician is changing too - it's not just someone working in a warehouse anymore.“It's so expanded these days, with software developers and analytics folks and the people who really ask ‘what if' to make the whole supply chain work more smoothly.”On today's podcast:What are operations and logistics? Why companies are investing in automation in their warehousesEmerging technology in logisticsThe Amazon effectThe impact of the pandemic on supply chains

Amazon has revolutionised retail, and it's showing no signs of stopping. To understand the Amazon effect, and consider what might be coming next, we need to analyse it through two lenses - retail strategy and technology. Which is why retail analyst Natalie Berg and technology journalist Miya Knights decided to combine their perspectives and co-author their new book Amazon: How the world's most relentless retailer will continue to revolutionise commerce. In this conversation we talk about the Amazon effect itself (always fascinating for a publisher!) and the future of retail, but also what it takes to collaborate on a book, the difficulty of writing about a moving target, and how to fit the writing alongside the day job.
Cities across the nation gave Amazon their best pitch as to why they should build their second headquarters in their town. Who wouldn't want 50,000 plus new jobs? From tax incentives to promises of new housing and public transportation improvements, Amazon was being wooed like nobody's business. The Top 20 cities were whittled down to not one, but […]
