Did someone say butterflies? That's right, songwriters are just like butterflies in many ways, and I'm over the moon to welcome Andrew Dean onto the show for an outstanding conversation about the metamorphosis of a songwriter. The quote for this episode is by Drew Barrymore: “I've always loved butterflies, because they remind us that it's never too late to transform ourselves.” During our chat, Andrew and I talk about evolving as songwriters, our excitement from seeing others succeed, embracing the unknown as we chase our dreams, having a supportive network and making friends in the music industry, collaborating with others, our music transforming over time, writing in various styles, staying true to ourselves, the freedom in authenticity, the International Singer Songwriters Association and ISSA Awards, getting involved in the music industry, trusting the journey, the benefits of being an independent artist, and much more. I truly loved having Andrew on the show for such a wonderful conversation, so I hope it gives you a glimpse into how songwriters are just like butterflies. Are you enjoying Write on Track? #042 - Do you remember seeing the animated version of Aladdin back in the 90s and watching Aladdin run around Agrabah? I felt like I was in Agrabah as my guest, Andrew Dean, took me on his adventures through Morocco.I have always been fascinated with the country of Morocco. Morocco sits close to Europe, but is it's own unique place. From the Blue Pearl of Morocco, the bustling souks of Marrakech, and the beautiful sand of the Sahara desert this was a fun and inspiring adventure.Andrew tells some great stories and I learned the importance of not dwelling too much on outside factors when deciding to travel and pursue your adventures. He also taught me the importance of appreciating the culture you are in while on your adventures. If you have not done so put Morocco on your list of places to visit and have your own Moroccan adventure!Andrew Dean is a professional photographer and avid traveler. Check him out on Instagram @drewtravels4life .Thank you for your continued support of Journey with Jake. If you are adventurous and have any stories or experiences I would love to hear about them. Send me an email to jake@journeywithjake.net or direct message me on Instagram @journeywithjakepodcast . I would love to hear from you!
I'm joined by Andrew Dean, Director at Menlo Park to discuss gathering feedback to shape business. Andrew's LinkedIn profile says it all...Our methods and purpose come from our belief that everyone should be happy and fulfilled at work. Placing the right people, in the right roles, will increase happiness, security and productivity in the workplace, in turn, leading to people enjoying an overall greater sense of well-being in their lives. We put those capable of making a big positive difference, within environments that embrace their qualities and with technologies that enhance their skills; driving innovation and solutions that benefit patients. People that can pursue their passion at work, persevere, stay the course and achieve great things.Obviously, recruitment is about people, but Andrew's take on creating a company that consciously shapes the best experience for its employees is something we can all learn from, no matter our industry. We explore Menlo Park's 'Work from Anywhere' policy, but we really zoom in on their 'Ideas Laboratory', part of their process for hearing their people's voices. This is a new approach that took courage to lead in-house. Andrew shares his practical ideas about:How he shaped the methodology to feel safeHow people engagedWhat was discoveredThe dynamics between people who have experience elsewhere vs others whose perception of the industry is wholly Menlo Park's approachWhat leaders should be doing to make a positive difference for their employeesMore about AndrewAndrew Dean is Director at Menlo Park Recruitment, an award winning health care recruitment consultancy. Menlo Park are back to back winners of Recruitment Agency of the Year (GP Awards), and were given a recent nod at the Recruiter Awards; highly commended in the best Public Sector Agency category. Andrew believes recruitment agencies are essentially data and marketing companies; and you have to be really good at both, in order to be successful. To be authentic and expound a set of values, you have to live them in the office. That starts with making Menlo a great environment in which to work.Links to contact Andrew:LinkedIn:Andrew DeanMenlo Park RecruitmentWebsite: www.menloparkrecruitment.comResources & ReferencesAfter Action Reviews: Racing Ahead with After Action Reviews – with Rob Smedley - It's Time for Change (itstimeforchange.co.uk)After Action Review - It's Time for Change (itstimeforchange.co.uk)Workplace Insight:Find out what's really going on Workplace Insight | It's time for Change (itstimeforchange.co.uk)Hear me talk about wellbeing and engagement in the workplace with Brodie In Menlo Park's series of talks with mental health professionals: Corporate Challenges -
The first person in our series featuring poets around a fire in Chion's backyard was Zulynette. This time, meet Andrew Dean Wright. In addition to being a photographer, digital artist, and elegant roller skater, he is a curious, gentle, and powerful poet. Enjoy this conversation between them, recorded in Hartford on August 24, 2022. Listen to a recent Colin McEnroe Show featuring poets, Margaret Gibson, Yanyi, and Matthew Zapruder. Andrew Dean Wright is a poet, digital artist, and photographer based in the Hartford, CT area. Having taken to poetry from an early age, Andrew's pieces range from simple exercises in device to pieces penned with the intent to serve as catalysts for discussion and praxis— with a large focus on freeing ourselves from the things that hold us back from expressing ourselves fully, whether that be from oppressive institutions, or one's own inhibition. You can find a selection of his work and keep an eye out for his upcoming work on Instagram at @andrewdeanwrites _____________________ A note about these special episodes: Most if not all of the special episodes you'll be listening to over the next several weeks will be me interviewing pals that have been storytellers in the past for my show A Little Bit of Death. A Little Bit of Death is an annual storytelling show that centers BIPOC and queer voices around the themes of grief, letting go, and transformation. This year I was invited to present at a summit pertaining to the work I do with A Little Bit of Death, so I who better to join me in speaking on it than the pals that have gone through the process. I reached out to some and asked if I could interview them on their experience with the show, what impact it had, what they shared, why sharing these stories matter. With their permission, I'm sharing the audio from those interviews I'll be using for my presentation at the summit. One of the last episodes I had recorded before my latest break was about following and following through on your wild ideas. A Little Bit of Death was one of those wild ideas for me and it's blossomed since the first show 7 years ago. This year, it'll be held over 2 nights in Hartford, CT at Carriage House Theater on the evenings of Friday November 11th and Saturday November 12th. I thought I'd drop these special episodes leading up to the show this year and I hope you enjoy them and, obviously, join us at the show! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thecreativealchemist/support

After completing a degree in Archaeology, Andrew was on a different path for a few years before deciding to give the recruitment industry a go. He spent just over 5 years in his first role, which gave him the foundations and confidence to set up Menlo Park. Fast forward to now, and Menlo Park has been thriving for over 5 years with over 20 members of staff. Andrew's journey is an interesting one, mostly because he has still been able to hire during Covid-19, and we cover his thought process on this during the episode. For recruiters who are looking to hire and interested in how to remotely onboard, this one's for you. For the junior consultants out there, this is a good podcast to listen to purely because it covers a lot of content on Covid-19! According to the Cancer Council of Australia, ''1 in 2 Australian men and women will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85 and currently cancer is the leading cause of death in Australia.'' Cancer sadly is such a common medical disease there wouldn't be many people in the world that haven't been touched by cancer either themselves, a loved one or friend they know have had a battle with cancer. When people talk and hear about cancer very unconsciously in our minds we have preconceived ideas about cancer and chemotherapy which may or may not be true. These misunderstandings around both cancer and chemotherapy can in fact be very unkind for the sufferer who is facing the fight of their life. So I thought it would be a good idea to discuss with Dr Andrew Dean an Oncologist at St John of God Hospital in Subiaco and clarify some of the common cancer myths and misconceptions. And by doing so, with greater understanding of the facts about cancer versus fiction we can be more compassionate and hopeful for people who are fighting cancer battles to become the strength and belief in their life when they need it the most! Thank you Dr Andrew Dean for shedding some light on some common cancer myths and misconceptions. From a ferry, Helen sees the sharp, conical peaks that dominate the coastline, known locally as the Cornish Alps. The skipper, John Wood, explains how they were formed from the spoils of the clay industry. Helen takes a closer look at one of the largest of the spoil heaps near St Austell, known as the Sky Tip, and talks to primary school teacher Ann Teague and local landlord Andrew Dean about why they think it is such an important landmark. They explain how they see beauty in the scarred industrial landscape, and are campaigning to prevent a new town being built near the peak. Helen then comes across a reunion of former clay workers at the Wheal Martyn museum, where she meets Arthur Northey and Colin Knellor. They started working in the industry as boys of fourteen and as well as recounting stories from their lives working in clay, they tell Helen that they would welcome development on the brownfield sites where the clay mines once stood. From a viewing platform high above a quarry, Helen looks down at the lunar landscape of a working clay mine. Her guide is Ivor Bowditch who worked as a mine captain, then as a spokesperson for the china clay industry. He shows Helen what the mining company has done to regenerate the land after the clay has been taken from it. One of the main projects is a series of clay trails through the landscape, which Helen then explores with a group of walkers. Presented by Helen Mark and produced by Beth McLeod.
