In this episode of Crime Time, Inc., we delve into the gripping events of the Balcombe Street siege in December 1975 and its broader implications on London's history during a period of immense fear caused by the IRA's bombing campaign. We provide an overview of the IRA's strategies and objectives, emphasizing their calculated attacks designed to leverage media attention and public opinion. We recount the devastating bombings, such as the Guildford pub bombings, which intensified the atmosphere of fear in London. The narrative then shifts to the dramatic six-day standoff at Balcombe Street, where four IRA operatives took a couple hostage. Through the lens of this siege, the episode explores the high-stakes cat-and-mouse game between the IRA and the Metropolitan Police's Operation Combo, highlighting the intense negotiations led by Detective Superintendent Peter Imbert. We delve into the police's psychological tactics and the eventual peaceful surrender of the gunmen. The episode also covers the subsequent trial, where the Balcombe Street Four were held accountable for their crimes, and how their imprisonment became a pivotal issue in the Northern Ireland peace process, leading to their release under the Good Friday Agreement. Celtic maintained their 100% start to the Scottish Premiership season with a comfortable 0-3 win over St. Mirren in Paisley. The Celts continued their habit of fast starts with captain Callum McGregor rifling into Balcombe's bottom left-hand corner from the edge of the box. Despite Celtic's dominance in the game, it took until 33 minutes to find the second goal. Maeda's knock down was struck first-time by his compatriot Hatate who found the bottom corner to give Celtic a 0-2 half-time lead. Into the second half and Celtic continued with their good tempo and quick combination play. There were chances for Kyogo and Kuhn, before Allistair Johnston underlapping run on the end of a Kuhn through ball, gave him the time and space to find the roof of the net to cap a great win for the Champions. First; Jennifer's got another one of her Uncorked events in Manhattan Beach - tickets are available, for sixty bucks one gets a glass of wine, two hours with her and others who all get spoken to. The events are fun and easy to attend. UncorkedWineShops.com https://uncorkedwineshops.com/medium-monday-tickets/ For ticket info: JenniferShaffer.com  This is a continuation of our conversation with Robert Towne, my old boss who left the stage last week.  Jennifer mentions how she was walking on the beach the other day and Robert (and his dog Hira) appeared walking next to her... Jennifer did a number of sessions with Robert and so she's used to communicating with him. In this episode, I'm continuing with my list of questions to ask him about - people that we spoke with before, people offstage and if he has messages for people onstage. In this case, Robert was doing a rewrite or polish for a script about Napoleon (I don't know if it was his own, or it was for someone else, like Ridley Scott as Robert wrote "Days of Thunder" for his brother Tony. Comes to mind - when his brother Tony passed, we were doing this research, and Robert asked me about his passing, so we did a session asking Tony what happened.  It's in the book BACKSTAGE PASS TO THE FLIPSIDE. Either way - I want to point something out. We accessed Napoleon and his friend Betsy Balcombe in a previous session - it might be in print instead of in the podcast list - that would be in BACKSTAGE PASS TO THE FLIPSIDE 1, 2 or 3 - and in that instance, she identified herself as Napoleon's friend, and when asked whether he died of natural causes or was "poisoned" we heard her say it was poison. (or not from natural causes). In this episode, I ask Robert if he's had a chance to ask Napoleon about the accuracy of that, and the answer is the word "wife." For those paying attention, that could be the wife of Napoleon (who was having an affair back in Paris, had two children with that fellow and married him) that could be the wife of Balcombe, but his family left St. Helena before Napoleon died, it could be "Fanny" the wife of one of his lieutenants he made a pass at, and nearly jumped off a ship at the thought of being stuck on St. Helena with him - or it could have been any number of wives on the island, as apparently, he'd have flings with quite a few. Wild and crazy guy. But in reading the A. Robert's autobiography of him, it's clear that he died of stomach cancer. The doctors did an autopsy, it's the same disease his father died of - and it's clear to me that is what he died of. "It was a miracle he didn't die from it earlier." In terms of this kind of research, asking questions and getting answers, because I've been doing this for 8 years weekly, I have to allow that it's possible I was asking the wrong question, it's possible that Napoleon was trying to steer the conversation to another topic (like "It was my wife Josephine that caused me to have agita which turned into stomach cancer") or it could be that the word "wife" meant something else altogether.  It's important to note this - because I'm asking leading questions and I could be leading the medium into an area where they are trying to answer my questions based on what they're getting from the flipside. (I've seen people do this, and likely I have done it before as well.) Jennifer says what she hears, senses, or visualizes.  Why he answered "wife" is subject to more questions - because I could revisit the conversation and point out that it was cancer that took his life, so what's he pointing to a wife or his wife, or someone else's wife? Either way - this is one of those things that make people say "well it's all subject to conjecture" so therefore it's pointless to ask questions. But clearly Robert was able to express who Rudy the Rank was, and Charles Grodin is able to express his opinions about the movie we were watching. Either way - we do this work to encourage people to explore on their own - to ask questions, to gauge the answers, to ask more questions and see what one can learn.  If one doesn't want to they don't have to - but clearly if one does want to communicate, they can. Just research the answers (as I've done here.) Hope this helps.

The spread of world missions started with the arrival of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, as His power worked through the church. By the end of the first century, the Gospel had been proclaimed throughout the entire Roman Empire. Another significant surge in the spread of the Gospel occurred after the Azusa Street revival, which resulted in its reach expanding to the entire world. To fulfill Jesus's prophecy in Matthew 24:14, the Church needs to undergo a renewal and receive a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit's baptism and His refining fire.Dennis Balcombe received Jesus Christ as his personal saviour in 1961. Also, he received the call of God on his life at a young age and traveled to China at the age of 24.  He has lived in Hong Kong for the past 54 years. God has greatly used him to bless and strengthen the Chinese church; a church that now has well over one hundred million believers.  He speaks fluent Mandarin and Cantonese.  He continues to minister to the Chinese and many others throughout Asia and the world.  As the founder of Revival Chinese Ministries International, he is a sought-after speaker globally. Dennis lives with his wife Kathy, daughter Sharon and Samuel Lau (son-in-law) in HK and serving the Churches.    We hope that this teaching left you more encouraged and equipped today. Ministers Fellowship International exists to help leaders build healthy, strong, impacting churches and to do so in a way that makes for a healthy leader.

How are individual fish (as sentient beings) affected by industrial and recreational fishing practices? We find out by talking with the best selling author of “What a Fish Knows: The Inner Lives of our Underwater Cousins.” biologist, Dr. Jonathan Balcombe, who also recently authored a children's book about a boy and a fish "Jake & Ava". In this interview, we discuss crowded fish farms, death by nets and suffocation, pain from barbed hooks, catch (harass) and release, and ways to avoid all of this by respecting fishes and considering their interests (including eating vegan/plant-based fish or avocado and cucumber sushi). Alec Balcombe is one man that knows grief and loss too well. He lost his father at aged 11 to cancer, and then in 2014 lost his older brother Nick, to a stroke. Shaped and molded forever by grief, absolutely! But what hasn't been altered is Alec's ability to work though all challenges thrown at him, all whilst ensuring his philanthropic mind allows him to grow for, he and his family. This episode was fascinating to hear about the impacts of grief on the Balcombe family. How it changed people forever, how the dynamic on basic ways in which they lived, was altered. Alec has been involved in many different business ideas and ventures, and his passion for evolving himself, and developing new and exciting things is very very cool. I think though, one of the most amazing stories from this life is the creation (with friends and family) of a Foundation after the loss of his brother Nick. The Nick Balcombe Foundation continues to not only showcase amazing up and coming Tasmanian music talent. But through the grant process makes dreams a reality – all exactly what Nick would have wanted, and what would be making him smile. Alec doesn't go back to these dark moments often, so I am grateful that on Get Frank he showed enormous courage and did so. Thanks to you and your family Alec, keep living the positive and outgoing life you continue to work so hard for! Stuart shares incredible insights into the new customer onboarding process, topics include: Sales-Marketing-Service Alignment: Gaps in this area aren't because of your internal teams per se, but because of not knowing your customer. And they feel it. He shares valuable advice on how to avoid this trap. Failed Onboarding: This has proven controversial online, but the Arrows team is opinionated about it. Onboarding can be considered either a success or a failure. What does this mean in practice? Stuart breaks it down. Cost of Failure: It's easy to think about new customer onboarding as a short-term concern. However, there are long-term financial ramifications of failing to retain customers. And it could cost you your business. Who Owns Onboarding: This is a tricky one. Stuart talks through the nuances of sales or service teams owning new customer onboarding, and in particular, what that looks like in HubSpot (in deals vs. tickets). Onboarding Velocity: This is the one metric that Stuart is thinking about right now. He explains what it means, how they think about this at Arrows, and why it matters. Show notes: In the show, The Bio Busters professors, Dr. A and Dr. C, discuss with Conservation Biology Senior Grant Milne about some of the more peculiar reproductive mechanisms in the animal kingdom. Reproduction plays an important role in the diversity and speciation of animals that evolve over time and pass traits to offspring. From platypuses and their unique brood care, to some freaks in the sheets (bedbugs), we touch on a broad range of reproductive strategies in animals that stray dramatically from what we consider the norm. Keep the discussion and comments going on the iTunes review section, or feel free to e-mail the podcast with future show ideas and thoughts on the current show.   Music by Bahaa Naamani Email us at thebiobusters@gmail.com   References:   Angeloni, Lisa. “Sexual Selection in a Simultaneous Hermaphrodite with Hypodermic Insemination: Body Size, Allocation to Sexual Roles, and Paternity.” Animal Behavior, vol. 66, 2003, pp. 417–26, doi:10.1006/anbe.2003.2255. Fracking for gas is highly controversial in the US and the UK as it has been accused of contaminating water courses and causing earthquakes. Yet it provides a cheap source of energy. Beneath England there are thought to be considerable amounts of shale gas and the UK government is considering whether to allow fracking in these areas. Already there is opposition from residents, concerned about pollution and earth tremors. Gaia Vince talks to scientists to find out what fracking involves and what impact it has on the environment, and she discovers what other countries can learn from the pioneers of the technology, the United States.(Image: Views of the Cuadrilla Fracking Site at Balcombe.
