On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by ole' friend and recurring guest Joe Yerdon for a conversation focused primarily on the Buffalo Sabres but also plenty of Bandits and Bills talk as well. It's been a hot minute since Joe's last been on the show, November 22 of last year to be exact so the guys spend some time catching up. Patrick hit up one of Joe's favorite bars in downtown Buffalo this past weekend while Joe's put some miles on his car driving to Toronto and Rochester to cover playoff hockey, seeing of course the Sabres yet again missed the postseason. Speaking of, Patrick asks Joe if this season was frustrating as a journalist because while the people covering teams have no horse in the race, it certainly makes for a more hostile and frustrating environment when the team you deal with on a daily basis consistently loses the Sabres have---for the past 14 years.Joe talks about Sabres star forward Tage Thompson shining for the United States at the World's in Sweden. He also talks about squashing rumors that Buffalo defensemen Bo Byram has requested a trade from the Sabres, and also shares what he thinks the Sabres vision may be for this offseason. They also spend some time talking about the Bills getting set to appear on HBO's Hard Knocks this summer and the Buffalo Bandits winning a championship for the third consecutive year. That and plenty more.Follow Joe on Blue Sky @joeyerdon.bsky.social.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. We consider them THE most underrated spot for wings, pizza and other great food in Western New York plus it's a great place to drink and have a great time.Special thanks to local Buffalo band, Orange Zest for allowing us to use their awesome single, “Old Friends” as the new official intro music for Talking Buffalo. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Chris Ostrander (Two in the Box) to discuss Buffalo Bills general manager coming in hot on a WGR 550 appearance Monday morning in addition to what Chris' offseason plan is to finally fix the Buffalo Sabres this offseason.Beane made a radio appearance with Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase Monday morning and was outwardly annoyed at their "bitching' over the wide receiver position, touting the success of the offense last year despite media and fans complaining about the loss of Stefon Diggs. The guys have plenty of reaction to Beane's fiery comments. The Sabres continued to do what they've excelled at for the past 14 years now---miss the playoffs. They didn't come close either this time around as their 79 points was third from the bottom in the Eastern Conference and 12 points behind the last wild card team, Montreal. It really feels like a blown opportunity given that 92 points could've gotten them to the playoffs and everyone, for the most part rightfully so points to the 13-game winless streak early in the season that quickly did them in. As a result the Sabres pulled back into a tie with the New York Jets for the longest playoff drought of any team of the four major professional sports. So how does this never ending drought finally end? Patrick tasks Chris with coming up with a plan. What trades can be made, what free agent(s) can be convinced to come to Buffalo, what changes need to be made to the roster internally as well as the coaching staff? Does Kevyn Adams keep his GM job? Should he keep his job? Chris does his best to shed light on everything necessary to turn this mess around. Also, Chris has plenty reactions on the Bills draft and the offseason as a whole now that it's mostly complete. That plus a Sylvester Stallone vs Arnold Schwarzenegger who was a better 80's movie star debate and much more.Be sure to follow Chris on X at @2ITB_Buffalo and check out the Two in the Box blog in addition to the Instigator Podcast.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Both Cup champions, their impact is bound to shake things up and their dynasty in Pittsburgh may be coming to an end. And what about the Winnipeg Jets snagging Tyler Toffoli, Colin Miller, and Sean Monahan? The Panthers aren't left out either, with Vladimir Tarasenko and Kyle Okposo making moves. But is a trade deadline deal worth a first-round pick? The ladies weigh the pros and cons. Plus, they ponder over Lou Lamoriello's four-year silence on deadline day deals for the New York Islanders. They also explore some of the weird happenings around the trade deadline. From games scheduled on deadline day to the awkward situation former Avs player Bo Byram faced. Shifting gears, to women's hockey, from the PWHL to Rae's firsthand experience at the NY vs. Boston game where she finally got a puck from a player during warm ups. And in a delightful twist, Kendall Coyne-Schofield lends her voice to a character in Disney & Pixar's *Inside Out 2*, playing a female hockey player. The guys are back and even though they managed to get a bit too tied up with the trade deadline, Lance and Joe are back to discuss what the Buffalo Sabres pulled off. They get into what it meant to send Kyle Okposo to a Stanley Cup contender and what he meant to the team and organization. They'll also dig into one of the biggest trades of the entire deadline in which the Sabres sent Casey Mittelstadt to Colorado for defenseman Bo Byram. The guys will get into what that move does and how it sets up what they'll be up to for the offseason and how vital it becomes to find a third-line center and how they'll attack things to get them to the playoffs next year.Wait... don't they still have a chance at that this year...? Don't worry, that gets discussed as well. The Avalanche really did it. The Colorado Avalanche have traded Bo Byram to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Casey Mittelstadt, at long last solving their need at second line center for the foreseeable future, but at the cost of a beloved player in Byram. But not just that, the Avs set that deal up by acquiring Sean Walker from the Philadelphia Flyers for Ryan Johansen and a 2025 1st Round pick, opening the space to move Byram and freeing up cap space. These blockbusters drastically change the outlook of the Avalanche for both the rest of this season and the future, so where do they stand now as the dust settles on MacFarland's ballsiest moves ever? Key players in win over canucks, Georgiev is a guy you can win the Cup with, backup goalie may prove to be a problem, Bo Byram finding his rhythm, March 8th trade deadline, shoring up the 4th line
What's wrong with the Avalanche? tough road trip, no production from centers, Bo Byram played one of his best games last night, should Avs have voted on another Captain while Landeskog has been out?
Hour 3 of The Drive has Hot Take Tuesday and Papa Murphy’s is on our plate this Tuesday! Could Russ lead the Broncos to the playoffs next season if the Broncos bring him back? | Bo Byram has had a less than impressive season for the Avs so do they trade him? Also, how important is tonight’s game vs Washington? | Justin Simmons and Garett Bolles have been two staples of the Broncos organization, but the guys understand that changes could be on the horizon. If the Broncos backs were against wall, which guy would they choose? | The Drive goes over why the Denver Nuggets need to refocus since the toughest stretch is yet to come.
The Avalanche fell to the Bruins 5-2 after falling behind early, and their exhausted star players unable to make up the difference. Will getting healthy be enough to support the stars once again? Locked On Avalanche - Daily Podcast On The Colorado Avalanche
Damn that last minute of the Nashville Predators game. Eliminate that and the Colorado Avalanche are on an eight game winning streak.Regardless, the Avs are playing some great hockey as of late and have set themselves up at the top of the division and even the Western Conference following the conclusion of the game vs Tampa.Things just seem to be clicking for the Avs, including Alexandar Georgiev who put together probably his best game of the season so far. While most things for the Avs are going well, Bo Byram seems to be having a problem staying out of the penalty box. Regardless, the Avs are playing some great hockey as of late and have set themselves up at the top of the division and even the Western Conference following the conclusion of the game vs Tampa. Things just seem to be clicking for the Avs, including Alexandar Georgiev who put together probably his best game of the season so far. While most things for the Avs are going well, Bo Byram seems to be having a problem staying out of the penalty box. Why? Tune in, subscribe and enjoy! Locked On Avalanche - Daily Podcast On The Colorado Avalanche
One of the bigger names the Avalanche need to hand a new contract to this offseason is, of course, Bowen Byram. The question remains on if it will be a bridge deal or a long term one. We might have gotten a glimpse into the market after the Montreal Canadiens signed Cole Caufield to a massive 8 year, $62.8 million deal. Seeing as how Caufield was drafted in the same year as Byram, does this have any impact on how the Avs negotiate with their defenseman? We also discuss the new head coach hiring of the Anaheim Ducks, as they dip into the Avalanche pool to tab Greg Cronin, who has lead the AHL Colorado Eagles the past several years. Why we like this hiring, but of course how it leaves a void for the Avs AHL squad. All that, plus ESPN cuts loose a good one.Tune in, subscribe and enjoy!Subscribe to our Subtext to talk to us directly!https://joinsubtext.com/lockedonavalancheFollow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…
The Avalanche will be without Gabe Landeskog for the entire 2023-24 season, after Landeskog underwent cartilage replacement surgery to deal with the injury that kept him out of last season. Can the Avalanche still compete without their captain again next season? Can they build a more complete team with that $7M opened up for the season? Also, some reports on Bo Byram's potential next contract have surfaced, what could the contracts for him and Alex Newhook look like this offseason? Finally, the Chicago Blackhawks won the draft lottery and the right to select Connor Bedard in the draft next month, putting the league's failure to punish them for their treatment of Kyle Beach on full display.Welcome to The Tell It Avs It Is Podcast, your home for everything Colorado Avalanche on The Hockey Podcast Network! We expected to discuss the results of the Bedard sweepstakes on today's episode, but later on in the third segment of the show. Then division rival Chicago won the draft lottery and that bumped up the conversation. The Colorado Avalanche will have to deal with the wonderboy himself for the next two decades, which might not mean anything in the next couple of years, but it will once the Hawks right the ship. We also start our season grades and the first one up is Bo Byram. What grade did he receive from us as well as the people of social media? Tune in, subscribe and enjoy! It's true. Captain Gabriel Landeskog took the ice yesterday and started what we all hope is the road to a mid March return. Landeskog skated slowly and took some wrist shots for about 30 minutes before calling it a day, which is all we can ask for at this stage. Baby steps come first. We promise this is the last time we talk about Martin Kaut. Apparently, he asked to be traded 5 times over the last 5 years. Does it mean anything? We also take some listener questions which include to bridge or lock up Bo Byram, will EJ retire following this season, and why haven't the Avs visited the White House?Tube in, subscribe and enjoy!Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

The Avalanche are starting roll, winning both games of their back to back and capping it with a classic 6-5 overtime win over the Edmonton Oilers, coming back from a 3-0, 4-2, and 5-3 deficit without Cale Makar in the lineup for one of the best wins the Avalanche have scored all season long. The Avs also took care of business the day before in St. Louis against the Blues with a 4-1 win, complete with one of Bo Byram's best games of his career. Finally, the center options are starting to dry up as Ryan O'Reilly heads to Toronto, and Jonathan Toews will not be traded.Welcome to The Tell It Avs It Is Podcast, your home for everything Colorado Avalanche on The Hockey Podcast Network!Join hosts Griffin Youngs from and Christian Bolle every Monday and Thursday as they brings you up to date and intriguing analysis on all things Colorado Avalanche and NHL.Follow Griffin on Twitter: @GYoungsNHLFollow Christian on Twitter: @Christian_BolleFollow the show on Twitter: @TellItAvsItIsThe Hockey Podcast Network - @hockeypodnetIf you or someone you know has a gambling problem, crisis counseling and referral services can be accessed by calling 1-800-GAMBLER (1-800-426-2537) (IL/IN/MI/NJ/PA/WV/WY), 1-800-NEXT STEP (AZ), 1-800-522-4700 (CO/NH), 888-789-7777/visit http://ccpg.org/chat (CT), 1-800-BETS OFF (IA), 1-877-770-STOP (7867) (LA), 877-8-HOPENY/text HOPENY (467369) (NY), visit OPGR.org (OR), call/text TN REDLINE 1-800-889-9789 (TN), or 1-888-532-3500 (VA). 21+ (18+ NH/WY).
