This Canadian born troubadour has seen platinum success, toured with Shania Twain, and has hosted "Canada's Got Talent".
Two months ago, Lindsay Ell released her latest single, “Sweet Spot,” plus she's on the way to issuing a new album, following up 2020's Heart Theory. And for the tour leading into her next record, she's also got a passel of updated gear since her 2018 Rig Rundown. No surprise, since there's always something new happening with Ell—whether it's touring under her own banner or with Shania Twain, scooping up Canadian Country Music Association awards, or serving as a judge on Canada's Got Talent. When it comes to guitars, Ell's 6-string tastes run to the classics and custom-builds, and she's got her signature OD aboard, so let's take a look.Brought to you by D'Addario XS Strings.

Paul is a three-time World Choreography Award Nominee, a 2022 Leo Award Winner, and a 2022 MTV Award winner for "Best Musical Number", where he was nominated for two different films in the same category. He is the protégé and creative partner of famed director Kenny Ortega. Paul's visionary approach to storytelling, which he honed for years through his prolific choreography career, resulted in him recently directing the hit Netflix series Julie and the Phantoms. He also wrote and directed Breaking Brooklyn for Lionsgate starring Academy Award Winner Louis Gossett Jr. and was honored to direct and choreograph the closing ceremonies for the illustrious Pan Am Games. While his career as a dancer thrived, he was inspired to choreograph during his time filming Chicago alongside Rob Marshall. Having choreographed his first film at the age of 19, he was quickly catapulted to acclaim and was brought onboard to develop epic stage productions for The Jonas Brother, Miley Cyrus, Kanye West, Pitbull, Don Omar, Ciara, and many others. His onstage work also includes creating and directing two mega tours of Sesame Street Live and two brand-new circus tours for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey. His body of choreographic work includes over 300 films and T.V. shows, an impressive feat for such a young artist. Some notable projects bearing his innovative stamp include: the 2019 Academy Award nominated film Ralph Breaks the Internet (Disney Animation), the Seth Rogan produced comedy Good Boys, Deadpool 2 (w/ Ryan Reynolds), Noelle (w/ Anna Kendrick & Shirley MacLaine), The Kissing Booth 1, 2 & 3 (Netflix), and the hit YA musical comedy A Week Away for Netflix. Paul's T.V. work extends to Charmed, Hellcats, Legends of Tomorrow, and Riverdale for The CW, the National Geographic series Valley Of the Boom, American Horror Story: Hotel, Once Upon a Time for ABC, A Series of Unfortunate Events for Netflix, and The Magicians for SYFY. The Walt Disney organization has enfolded and integrated him into their creative workings, a blessing Paul cherishes daily. He has given life to several projects at Mouse Central that would bring any performance artist and collaborator boundless joy. His association with Disney began when he choreographed The Muppets': Wizard of Oz, followed by The Muppets' Christmas: Letters to Santa. His long-term relationship with them solidified as he was brought in to choreograph several films, from the hit remake of Adventures in Babysitting (w/ Sabrina Carpenter) to Girl vs. Monster (w/ Olivia Holt), and the record-breaking musical franchise Descendants, in which he and Ortega teamed up to choreograph and which was deemed a “YouTube breaking moment” recording billions of views. Additionally, his choreography can be seen in the films Overboard for MGM, the famed Twilight film series, Mirror Mirror (w/ Julia Roberts), Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, and the worldwide phenom book series turned film series Diary of a Wimpy Kid Parts 1-3. She's not even 15 years old, but this Israeli immigrant to Canada is blessed with a powerful singing voice that belies her years. Now Maya Gamzu is hoping that her current success on this season's reality TV show Canada's Got Talent (airing on Citytv) will be her ticket to stardom. Gamzu and her family moved from Tel Aviv to Richmond Hill, Ont. four years ago. She was already performing in Hebrew back home ever since she was a toddler, but mastering the English language was a challenge she took on so that she could reach a wider audience. Although she doesn't flaunt it, her Jewish and Israeli roots are a huge part of Maya's identity: for her audition episode, she wore a red string bracelet around her left wrist which she had brought from the Western Wall in Jerusalem. Originally, Maya had hoped to make a connection with the lone Jewish judge on the show, Toronto-born comedian Howie Mandel. But surprisingly it was the award-winning rapper Kardinal Offishall who became her champion, and awarded the Grade 9 student at Westmount Collegiate Institute the so-called “Golden Buzzer” – which means she went straight through to the semi finals. That episode airs tonight Tuesday, May 2. Maya Gamzu and her father Sergei join The CJN Daily to take us behind the scenes of the popular show. The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast is grateful to CGT for welcoming back some of my favorite acts who impressed me during the Judges' Auditions. Geneviève Côté is the first act to visit the podcast! Born in Montreal and raised in Laval, Geneviève has been passionate about voices and noises since birth. Inspired by her idols, the little ones Simard, Céline Dion, Dominique Michel, The Looney Tunes, and many others, she went on stage for the first time at the age of four. From a very young age, she was immediately won over and very inspired by actor-comedian and sound designer Michael Winslow (Police Academy). So she begins to imitate every sound out there, from the creaking of a door to the bottle of window cleaner to the sound effects of her favorite Atari video game, Asteroids. Subsequently, it was the group of Quebec comedians Rock et Belles Oreilles and the comedian and singer Weird Al Yankovic who gave him the taste to write his own parodies and make his dream a vocation. While she was a young single mother in her early twenties, it was in 1998 that Geneviève presented herself alone with her baby at the Action Intervention Jeunesse competition at the Salle André-Mathieu in Laval. She lifts the crowd and wins the hearts of judges François Massicotte, Maxim Roy, Jean Aroldi, and Luc De La Rochelière with her imitation and parody of Celine Dion. She, therefore, won the title of Laureate of the first prize in the humor category as well as practically all the awards of the evening. Geneviève Côté was discovered in 2010 on YouTube with her video parodies of Lady Gaga, Lisa Leblanc and Gérald Tremblay. Since then, she has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Mike Ward, Cathy Gauthier, France D'Amour, Marjo, André Sauvé, P-A Méthot, Alex Perron, and many others. She has been seen on stage as part of the Just for Laughs festival on productions by Joël Legendre, such as La Fureur and Le show 100% Inimitable and in the Humor Blind galas at the Saint-Denis Theater on several occasions. In this edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Geneviève Côté spoke about her audition and reaction when Howie Mandel pressed his Golden Buzzer. Canada's Got Talent airs on CityTV!

Recently stepping off the stage as a host for the season finale of Canada's Got Talent, award-winning artist Lindsay Ell joins All Heart with Paul Cardall to discuss her journey leading up to CMA nominations, a Gold record, head-lining her first concert tour, and the recent release of a her hit single, “Right On Time.” Lindsay, whose toured with Keith Urban, Brad Paisely, and Sugarland is putting a voice to the pressure she feels as a career-focused woman in her 30s, “Right On Time” is an anthem for anyone who has felt pressured to be something or someone they aren't, while working on timelines determined by societal norms. ABOUT LINDSAY“I've learned to care a little less about what everybody thinks,” says singer/songwriter/guitarist Lindsay Ell. “Following my gut instinct, truly saying what I want to say—that's the magic, the elements that make you relatable and real. Before, I was worrying about writing for radio, for fans, but now this is what I know, this is my journey. And the more honest I get, the more effective it is.”With her new album, heart theory, Ell does just that, weaving the story of her journey of the heart in her own voice using her arsenal of tools as a musician and artist to give each song the sonic backdrop it deserves. “Theory is the science of music, heart theory is the science of a heart,” says Ell.The tracks take the listener along the path of the seven stages of grief: shock, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, testing and acceptance. “If my last record was called The Project, this one could be called the process.” From the shock-to-the-heart felt in the groovy opening track “Hits me” to the sing-along-at-the-top-of-your-lungs acceptance of the closing track “ReadY to love,” Ell invites you to experience her journey.Produced by the legendary Dann Huff, heart theory maintains a sonic depth and auditory aura while still conveying the emotional rawness and storytelling that highlights Ell's growth since her debut album on Stoney Creek Records, The Project, which debuted at No. 1 on the Country Album Sales Chart and was named Billboard's “Best Country Album of 2017.” That album spawned her first Top 20 hit in the US, as well as her first No.1 on the Canadian Country radio charts – making her the first female artist to top that chart in 10 years. Most recently, she scored her first No. 1 with “What Happens in a Small Town,” her duet with Brantley Gilbert – another milestone moment making her the first Canadian artist to hit No. 1 in the US since Emerson Drive's “Moments” in 2007, and the first Canadian woman to reach the top of the charts since Terri Clark with “I Just Wanna Be Mad” in 2003.Over the past 3 years, Ell has shared the stage with some of the biggest acts in the world touring with Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, and Sugarland. She has more than held her own in moments alongside such artists as Mellissa Etheridge, Billy Ray Cyrus, Robert Randolph, Billy Gibbons and other legends. She has made multiple appearances on the CMA Awards stage including playing with Carrie Underwood and performing with distinguished country group, Little Big Town, alongside other powerhouse female artists in one the biggest moments of the 2019 CMA Awards where she was also nominated for Musical Event of the Year. Ell's nominations do not stop there, she is a 2x 2020 ACM nominee for New Female Artist of the Year and Music Event of the Year.Concurrently though, Ell was grappling with the real-life complexities that come with growing up, even as a rising star. “The past couple of years, I've been through a lot,” she says. “A public break-up took me through all of the stages of heartbreak, I turned 30, I had a health scare and countless other hurdles. And I came out the other side as a full human. There are moments when life just smacks you in the face and you need to do the work of figuring out what that means, how it changed you, and how to take full control of your life.”Ell points to several of the new songs as examples of her evolution and sense of maturity. “There's a song called ‘make you' that's about a trauma that happened to me as a little girl, something I have never publicly talked about,” she says. “Holding pieces of our story back means missing out on the opportunity to feel inspired, changed, drawn to make a difference. I got into this business to change people, to make them feel something. So, it was important to me to get really honest and say that all of us have skeletons in the closet, but those things make us who we are.”With a chorus and guitar lines that soar “wAnt me back” is glowing with self-appreciation and tints of anger. “I love watching people step into their own power,” says Ell. “It is one of the most inspiring moments to watch someone finally see their full potential.” With this sentiment, Ell co-wrote this mid-tempo track with hit-maker Kane Brown along with Matt McGinn and Lindsay Rimes. Preaching confidence and that there is no other you, Ell hopes to inspire others to free themselves of the shackles that no longer serve them well.Lauded by Forbes magazine as “one of the most exciting and talented young artists in Country music,” the Calgary native learned to play guitar while traveling with her father to Country-Bluegrass camps as a young girl. Ell was championed by Randy Bachman (of Bachman Turner Overdrive and The Guess Who), who discovered her at the age of 13, and was soon touring alongside the likes of Luke Bryan and Buddy Guy.While Ell has earned special recognition for her blistering guitar playing, she notes that she doesn't want to be defined by any one dimension of her work. She says, “I don't want to be known as just a guitar player. My favorite artists, like John Mayer and Keith Urban, are great players, but that's not the only thing you think of. I write, sing, produce and think all the pieces of the puzzle come together to make an artist's story unique, to paint the full picture. Yes, this is a huge guitar record, but that's not what I want be the first thing that rings the bell when you listen.”A major part of Ell's success has come from her dedicated exposure to an international audience. She has performed on her own tour, at the C2C Festival, opening tours for stars in their home territories, and as part of the CMA's “Introducing Nashville” series in Europe and Asia (at one point playing in eight different countries in 32 days).“I've loved doing so much international travel.” she says. “I always wanted to build my career beyond the borders of North America, so it's incredible to go to New Zealand, Japan, Germany, places where they're trying to figure out what I'm saying, but they're so into it. They listen to the catalog, learn the songs, come to the show ready for the experience—they're the perfect audience, they care so much.”As Lindsay Ell gears up for a new album and continues to tour around the globe, she embraces this next chapter of her career. “Artists are always scared of the infamous sophomore album,” she says, “but I'm so excited. I've done the work, I've found the right team, and I'm coming at it from a place of more strength and more honesty. I'm ready to do this, so bring it on.”Keep up will all Lindsay Ell on her socials:Instagram Facebook | Twitter | TikTok | YouTube
