Her book, Feed Your Soul: Nutritional Wisdom to Lose Weight Permanently, was a #1 New Release on Amazon. Carly has lectured all over the country for incredible companies such as Facebook, SXSW, Whole Foods Market, Texas Women's Conference, Rackspace, Livestrong Foundation, lululemon, Atlassian, Frog Design, WeWork, Tech Stars, Flatwater Foundation, and the Texas Medical Association--among many more. Growing up, Carly struggled with anxiety, immune issues, and an ongoing battle with her weight. Through trial and error, Carly was able to figure out why so many of us fail to achieve the health we so badly desire. Through years of study and self-healing, she found the key to creating permanent change. Carly beautifully marries the science of the body to the wisdom of our intuition. Having grown up as a quick-witted New Yorker, she was raised without the ability to sugarcoat the truth. You won't find any nonsense here--just clear and honest information—and some tough love if you need it. Her teachings empower you to shift your thought patterns, change your physical body, properly manage stress, and live your best life.
When you're stressed or anxious, how do you ground yourself? And no, I'm not talking about the sort of grounding you get as a punishment (“Mary, you're grounded!”), but rather the kind you do to calm yourself down. If you're feeling the panic coming on or just in a high stress situation or feeling the anxiety rising, grounding yourself helps bring you back to the here-and-now present moment… and away from the Hot Mess Express train. Earlier this week, I spoke with author Carly Pollack all about how to make self-care ‘non-negotiable' through meditation and silence as part of our 5-part series together. And one thing that really struck me from our conversation was when she talked about the difference between self-care and restorative care. Yes, yes… pedicures and spa days are nice but restorative care is the deeper gift you give yourself that truly restores you and helps you feel more grounded. But let's face it… when you're in a high stress situation and (especially) navigating ALL the things during the holiday season, it's likely you're getting triggered left, right, and center. So, how do we overcome the overwhelm? It's as simple as 5-4-3-2-1 to get plugged back into your body, back into your environment, and get yourself back to calm. Let's simplify that… Here's how to ground yourself - the 5-4-3-2-1 simple method Remember, you cannot control life. But you can learn to gain better control over your emotions and what triggers you. It takes practice, repetition, and a little bit of grace. And the good news is, these are all things you already possess. You can do this, I believe in you. It's time to SIMPLIFY. We are continuing on with our 5-part series, simplifying how to make self-care a “non-negotiable” in our lives. And today's topic might be a bit surprising… sure, you need good sleep and eating well is a given, but have you considered how important getting still might be for your overall wellness? My special guest today is author and nutritionist, Carly Pollack and she's simplifying how to make self-care ‘non-negotiable' through meditation and silence. In a crazy-busy life full of noise and distractions, it's no wonder we are a society riddled with anxiety and high stress. Carly shares her very best remedies (for the busiest amongst us) to slow things down and carve out some breathing room for inner reflection and peace. Even if it's just 5 minutes. Here's how. Carly Pollack simplifies how to make self-care ‘non-negotiable' through meditation and silence. In this episode, you will learn: What the difference is between meditating and sitting in silence What the biggest limiting beliefs are that keep people from carving out more meditation time or moments of silence in their lives… and how to squash that Carly's simple, favorite ways to incorporate more pockets of breathing room and silence into her work day What the difference is between “resources vs. resourcefulness” and how to be more resourceful when time is limited Why it's better to adopt a “consistency over perfection” mentality when it comes to this aspect of self-care #DoTheThing! Are you ready to get off the diet roller coaster, lose weight permanently, and feel great? So many of us spend years (or even decades) messing around with fad diets, beating up on ourselves and our bodies, and limiting the way we live because of our obsession with food. If you are ready to stop stressing, stop denying yourself, and start feeding your soul and your body with love, so you can live your life with joy, health and happiness, then this is the show for you! Carly Pollack, author of Feed Your Soul and the founder of Nutritional Wisdom, knows what it’s like to tie your sense of worth to the way your body looks or to what size you wear. She understands the fact that most of us (even if we intellectually know better) are at least somewhat a victim of society’s unrealistic view of bodies, health and fitness. She has an extensive background in health, nutrition and fitness, as well as years of practical experience helping hundreds of women get happy and healthy permanently. She believes that the most important component of weight loss is the mind! In fact, one of her sayings is, “Our plate is a reflection of our inner state.”
In her book Feed Your Soul, Carly Pollack combines practical guidance on what to eat with timeless wisdom. Being a conscious leader requires focus, clarity, and energy. In this episode, Carly Pollack and Free Your Inner Guru host Laura Tucker explore why many people experience wellness as a battle between two voices - our compassionate Higher Self and our obsessive, punishing lower self - and why our relationship with food is a mirror for where we are on our spiritual path. Carly Pollack is the founder of Nutritional Wisdom, a thriving private practice based in Austin, Texas. A Certified Clinical Nutritionist with a master’s degree in holistic nutrition, Carly has been awarded Best Nutritionist in Austin five years running and has helped over 10,000 people achieve their health and happiness goals. “Instead of someone outside of you - or a book or a person…Feed Your Soul is really a book about teaching you how to find your own boundaries. It’s not ‘Hey, I’ve never met you in my whole life, but I’m going to write a book telling you how I think you need to eat.’ It’s different for everyone, and different at different seasons of their life.” - Carly Pollack Conversation highlights -Carly shares her experience of being at war with her body, a constant chaotic battle with 2 sides. -The role of awareness in guiding your health. Why focussing on the food and the movement is ineffective. -When you feel like your emotional wellness is easily being tripped up by external triggers, you need to look at your spiritual practice and strengthen it. -The difference between judgment and holding yourself to a high standard -Where Carly stands on the two opposing camps in woman’s wellness -Simple but impactful guidance on what to eat: foods that rot. -Why the white potato is a victim of dogma. -How to apply the 80/20 rule to nutrition. -What it was like to approach publishers with a book that contains no hook or quick fix. Carly Pollack’s Memorable Quotes “Obsessiveness and awareness cannot coexist.” “I can’t influence myself if I’m judging myself.” “I don’t want to take the life out of food, I want to take the power out of food.” “To demonize the banana, we are missing the point. We are doing this a lot to distract ourselves from the bigger picture of doing the deeper work.” Mentioned in this episode Carly Pollack's book - Feed Your Soul -Nutritional Wisdom to Lose Weight Permanently and Live Fulfilled Website - carlypollack.com Support the #FYIGPodcast and join the Free Your Inner Guru listener forum at support.freeyourinnerguru.com
Do you realize that your thoughts create your reality? That thoughts drive your emotional experiences? Joining me today to discuss how we can take control of our thoughts and emotions and use them to create the realities we want is Carly Pollack.
Why do we consume things that are not good for our bodies? That make us feel sluggish, heavy, not at our best? Why do we believe that doing another diet, cleanse, or fast is going to finally be the trick? What if there were deeper reasons, unknown reasons to you, that drove the sabotaging choices that you make about what you put in, on and within your body? There are! In this Feminine Power Time, the 3rd in our 3 part series on Receiving, I knew we had to dive into how a lack of receiving what we need in other areas of our lives, drives our choices for how we consume food, liquids, media, everything. And how a lack of receiving the wisdom we need vs. more information on the latest diet or super food or quick fix is keeping us from the wisdom of how our bodies really work as women. So I invited a new wise woman sister to join us - a true sacred rebel, here to do things differently, Ms. Carly Pollack, author of the book "Feed Your Soul" and founder of Nutritional Wisdom to dive in deep with us and illuminate both the deeper reasons within ourselves and the hidden reasons in the overculture that keep us from having the vibrant, radiant, healthy bodies we desire. I invite you to tune in, as we dive into this episode "Feed Your Soul Instead of Sabotage Your Body" and OPEN TO RECEIVE more of the wisdom and self-love you need to make choices that support you vs sabotage you. In our conversation today we dive into: Getting Real: Why the basic consciousness about dieting, cleansing and eating healthy keeps you stuck in yo yo weight gain and loss, or in an unhealthy and unhappy relationship with your body Getting Wise: Elevate your consciousness around your relationship to everything you put INTO and ON your body Getting in Touch with Your Self: How what you put on your plate reflects your inner state. And how to get in touch with how what you are lacking in other areas of your life are showing up in your body. Getting Inspired: 3 Invitations to Making Shift Happen in a way that feels good and supportive - Carly and I will give you 3 simple but mighty invitations to applying wisdom to how you approach choosing to ingest things that are GOOD for you Making it Personal: We will tune into your body and heart to see what it is that you are really needing to RECEIVE that your body and soul is craving ... so you can give it to yourself in ways that nourish you. It's a rich conversation with lots of #wisdombytes and inspiration. You will feel more open and more connected to yourself. Come and join us! More Feed Your Soul: Nutritional Wisdom To Lose Weight Permanently And Live Fulfilled is a guide to finally align your physical and spiritual health. Our bodies are a reflection of our thoughts, emotions, and fears. It is a mirror of that message that continually whispers in our ear. Change the whisper and heal your life. According to the Center for Disease Control, approximately 91% of women are unhappy with their bodies and resort to dieting to achieve their ideal body shape, while more than 70% of women over the age of twenty are considered overweight or obese. This means that most of us don’t know how to eat in a way that fosters a healthy relationship with food. While this has done wonders for the diet and supplement industry, it’s left an emerging generation of women feeling frustrated, bloated and on a search for something that will finally set them free from the prison of chronic yo-yo dieting. I want to talk about how to set a bedtime ritual that'll help you chill out. And I couldn't think of a more perfect person to help us with this topic than my own daughter, the queen of sleep, Miss Zoe. (Say hello, Zoe!) In the episode earlier this week, I spoke with Carly Pollack, all about how to make sleep part of your ‘non-negotiable' self-care practice. Which got me thinking about how kids have such great nighttime routines, why don't us adults have them, too?? In this episode, Zoe teaches us about what's working for her these days, and answers her Mum's questions... 1. Zoe, what are some of your favorite night-time rituals as a kid? 2. How do you feel when you've gotten a great night's sleep, the night before? 3. What about when you DON'T get a great night's sleep? 4. What am I like when I don't get good sleep, as your parent? 5. How early do you start your bedtime ritual every night? Remember, the very best you that you give your clients is one that knows when to have work time, exercise time, play time and yes, good quality sleep time. That's the secret to get back to thriving. Don't get stuck in the work zone for too long and risk burning out. You can do this, I believe in you. It's time to SIMPLIFY. Can I ask a silly question? How good at sleeping are you? I read a fascinating poll from the National Sleep Foundation, and it stated… “only 10% of American adults prioritize their sleep over other aspects of daily living such as fitness/nutrition, work, social life and hobbies.” As we all know, when we get a great night's sleep we feel unstoppable. We're sharper, clearer and more productive. We are less likely to get triggered by what others say, or when things don't quite go how we hoped. Great sleep helps us live better lives. So, how do we make it a priority? My guest today, Carly Pollack, simplifies how to make sleep part of your ‘non-negotiable' self-care routine. Carly Pollack is a nutritionist, author, and business owner. In this episode, you will learn: About the science of sleep, and what happens to our minds and bodies when we sleep Why sleep so important to our health and stress levels How to set your bedroom and nightly habits up for success The 4 questions Carly asks herself nightly that help her take a daily inventory of her life and make simple refinements How did I overcome resistance today? What did I do today that was great? What can I improve? What am I going to do tomorrow to put this improvement into action? How to train the mind and build better discipline around sleep… so you can get back to thriving This is part 2 in a series of 5 episodes, where Carly Pollack talks about how to make self-care a ‘non-negotiable' in your work and life. Make sure to listen to part 1 - episode 037, where Carly shares simple, practical tips on cooking and meal prep. I love her, and Carly's new book - Feed Your Soul: Nutritional Wisdom to Lose Weight Permanently and Live Fulfilled - is a must-read if you're done with dieting, and want to learn how to have a better relationship with food and your body. #DoTheThing! A Hunger To Change The Conversation About Health Growing up, Carly Pollack struggled with a buffet of issues: anxiety, autoimmune disorder, a never-ending battle with her weight. As Pollack puts it, “I was the queen of impeccable weekday eating and the impressive weekend binge.” So, it’s only natural then, that she’d go on to earn a Master’s Degree in Holistic Nutrition and be voted ‘Best Nutritionist’ in Austin for four years running. Right? Well, that’s not exactly the most obvious line of logic but Carly believes, “we often teach what we need to learn most.” That mantra bleeds through to every corner of her work. Pollack caries an impressive resume, having lectured all over the country for incredible companies like: Facebook, Whole Foods, Lulu Lemon and the Livestrong Foundation. And yet, she’s equally at home giving a small talk at the Sustainable Food Center or mentoring an aspiring entrepreneur at the Young Women’s Alliance. Her No-BS approach to creating lasting change is both uncommon and refreshing. You are in for a real treat with this interview. In this episode of Voices of Impact, Carly and I discuss the importance of asking high-quality questions. We talk about celebrating ‘small wins,’ as a means to combat ‘next-level syndrome.’ We tackle the subjects of behavior modification, emotional eating and spirituality. And Carly shares why traditional diets have such a high failure rate and what she and her team are doing to coach their clients back to health and happiness.

I will be reading your reviews in an upcoming episode so if you have any questions ask away :-) Believe it or not the holiday season is upon us again! While the holidays can mean loved ones, laughter and memories, they can also mean overeating, indulgent drinking and a complete abandonment of our healthy routines. To help alleviate that, I’ve brought back one of our most popular guests: Carly Pollack. Carly is a certified holistic nutritionist, life coach and founder of Nutrition Wisdom. On her earlier appearances, she shared about her battle with binge eating and how she overcame it once and for all. On today’s show, we’re talking about her suggestions for enjoying the holidays without gaining weight and without losing your mind in the process! She has some uncommon and refreshing tips on how to stay sane, stay focused and still have fun so listen in to hear them! More About This Show With her Master's Degree in Holistic Nutrition and status as a Certified Clinical Nutritionist and life coach, Carly has plenty of tools and resources for helping people get through the holidays without feeling disgusted by their holiday eating and drinking! In fact, her tools ensure you are having fun and enjoying the holidays, while still being healthy. Today we talk about a few of the biggest holiday disasters most of us face, and how we can avoid them. The first disaster is the scarcity mindset around holiday dishes and treats. She says the number one reason we gain weight during the holidays isn't what we are eating, it's how MUCH we are eating. And overeating is a result of a scarcity mindset around the food we eat. We have two scarcity stories when it comes to the holidays. The first is that these foods only come around once a year so eat as much of them as possible. The second story is that this is the only time of year it is okay to have horrendous behavior with food and alcohol. There is a mindset that it is okay to be reckless now but not the rest of the year, so give in and take the opportunity to do so. We can avoid both of these stories by creating an abundant mindset, and Carly has a few tools to do so. One she mentions on the show today is to start eating holiday foods at home a few months before the actual holidays. She likes to make turkey in her crockpot, mashed potatoes with coconut milk, cranberries and pumpkin seeds along with balsamic roasted brussel sprouts. She gets to enjoy holiday dishes ahead of time, that way it doesn’t feel like she only has one shot at the mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving! It makes Thanksgiving feel like just a meal. That’s how we can avoid the first disaster of the holidays, Carly names a second one to watch out for today: abandoning self-care routines. She says many of us abandon our self-care practices during the holidays, and we suffer as a result. Of course it can be difficult to maintain the usual regimens, with traveling and more parties and events than usual, but having a backup plan in place will help with that. If you know you can’t cook on the usual night because you have a party, then have a physical list of a few places you can go to get healthy meals the next night. Write down a few options or keep a list on your phone so you are set. Also on today’s show, we talk about the third holiday disaster, what it is and how to avoid it, as well as pattern interrupters we can use to stop binging during the holidays or any other time and why she doesn’t want you to eat salad on Thanksgiving! Listen to today’s show to hear her wealth of wisdom before your holiday season starts so you’re ready to stay fit and stay focused on your health goals! Carly Answers the Questions Q: Rank the following in order: sex, money, food. A: I want to be cool and say something has changed but it’s always going to be food! Food is my life. I’ll say food number one, being an entrepreneur means money is number two and, even though my husband won’t like this, sex is number three. Q: What do the holidays smell like to you? A: The holidays smell like pine, Christmas trees, the smell of candy canes and the mall. Q: What book are you reading? A: I have two books right now, one on audio. One of my exercise routines is walking and I walk four times a week for 45 minutes. I always listen to a book on tape, I just finished Ellen DeGeneres’ book Seriously...I’m Kidding. And on my bedstand is Gabby Bernstein’s The Universe Has Your Back. I love her, she’s great and I’ve studied a lot of her stuff.
