Dave Hill is a comedian, writer, musician, actor, radio host, and man-about-town originally from Cleveland, Ohio but now living in New York City in a totally sweet apartment with a party deck and everything. Hot chicks come over to hang out and eat cheese plates and stuff with him all the time and it's awesome.   Anyway, on the show business front, Dave has appeared on Netflix's The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Adult Swim's Joe Pera Talks with You Amazon's The Tick, Peacock TV's Girls5Eva, Comedy Central's @midnightand Inside Amy Schumer programs, TBS' Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, TV Land's The Jim Gaffigan Show, and TruTV's Comedy Knockout among a bunch of others. He is a frequent on-air host for HBO and Cinemax and has been on channels like MTV, VH1, BBC-America, and the Sundance Channel a whole bunch too. Dave also starred in his own television program The King of Miami on the Mojo Network, which was cancelled even though Dave really liked it. The show also aired in the United Kingdom on Sky TV's Film24 Channel. And you can still watch The King of Miami on Hulu too, which Dave is super pumped about. Oh, and Dave was a correspondent on Hoppus on Music starring Blink 182's Mark Hoppus on the Fuse channel, which ruled. Dave has been on other shows and in obscure movies too but let's keep moving for now.   Dave performs live comedy over the world and has appeared at such festivals as the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, SXSW, San Francisco Sketchfest, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Sasquatch Festival, Bumbershoot, Bonnaroo, the Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Portland, the Crap Comedy Festival in Oslo, Outside Lands in San Francisco, and then some other ones too. He has also performed comedy at Sing Sing Correctional Facility twice and even ripped some guitar solos inside a Mexican prison a couple times too. In 2007, Variety magazine named Dave one of their “10 Comedians to Watch,” something he still won't shut up about. Some things are hard to let go of. Dave hosted his own radio show The Goddamn Dave Hill Show on WFMU in Jersey City, New Jersey every Monday night from 9pm to midnight for years and now hosts the podcast Dave Hill's Podcasting Incident, which is also broadcast on the UK's Fubar Radio, So...You're Canadian with Dave Hill, and History Fluffer, on which he is joined by Jim Biederman, Jodi Lennon, and Chris Gersbeck. Dave is also a frequent contributor to public radio's Live from Here with Chris Thile and  This American Life. He has also appeared on podcasts like WTF with Marc Maron, The Adam Carolla Show, The Nerdist, and then roughly 78 other ones besides those. Dave is the author of four books, including his brand new book The Awesome Game: One Man's Incredible, Globe-Crushing Hockey Odyssey, in addition to Parking the Moose (Doubleday Canada/Penguin Random House 2019), Tasteful Nudes (St. Martins Press, 2012) and Dave Hill Doesn't Live Here Anymore (Blue Rider Press 2016). He has also written for the New York Times, GQ, Salon, The Paris Review, McSweeney's, New York Observer, The Cleveland Plain Dealer, VICE, Guitar World, and a bunch of other places too. Comedy legend Dick Cavett called Dave “a major figure among American comic writers, past and present,” which is pretty much the coolest thing that has ever happened as far as Dave is concerned. Dave is also a musician who currently sings and plays guitar in the power pop band Valley Lodge, whose song “Go” is the theme song to HBO's Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, and the psych/garage rock band Painted Doll. He was also a member of Cleveland rock bands Sons of Elvis and Cobra Verde as well as Diamondsnake, a heavy metal band with Moby. Additionally, Dave has played guitar for Walter Schreifels and muscle metal band Thor and bass for Lucy Wainwright Roche and former Faith No More singer Chuck Mosley. He also contributed musical scores to films such as Dirty Deeds, Shoot First and Pray You Live, and then some other ones besides those two. Dave's Info  https://www.davehillonline.com

A year ago, I began what will unfortunately be a regular series of these programs from now on…it's an annual look back on the musicians we lost in the previous year… Rock star deaths have been on our mind since late 2015 when Scott Weiland of the Stone Temple Pilots died, followed a few weeks later by Lemmy of Motorhead…then the floodgates opened in 2016: Bowie, Prince, Leonard Cohen, Glenn Frey of the eagles, both Keith Emerson and Greg Lake from Emerson Lake and Palmer, and George Michael—just to name a few… And since then, it seems we hear about a rock star death every couple of weeks…Tom Petty, Chris Cornell, Chester Bennington, Gregg Allman, Walter Becker of Steely Dan, Chuck Mosley of Faith No More, Andy Fletcher of Depeche Mode, Mark E. Smith of The Fall, Charlie Watts The Rolling Stones…it's been a lot to take in… Some of these deaths have been of natural causes, disease, and old age…others have involved drugs, alcohol, years of hard living, misadventure, and suicide… Here's the hard truth: rock has been around for about seventy years…many of the people who have provided us with our favourite music and some of the greatest songs of all time are reaching the end of their lives… No one is getting any younger...and over the next decade, we're going to lose some of the personalities who have always been with there for us over the last 30, 40, 50, or even 60 years... With that grim reality in mind, I think we need to continue with an annual retrospective at those whom we've lost in the last 12 months…they may be gone, but we need to recognize and celebrate their contributions to the world of music...this is 2023 in memoriam... "I got to work with the sounds captured at Rumassala Sanctuary in Sri Lanka. I was enchanted by how bustling the jungle beach actually is - it is absolutely packed with sounds. I was especially drawn to the tweets and chirps of the birds and insects, which inspired me to record a simple, peaceful, lullaby-like song. I don't know what time of day it was when these sounds were captured, but I imagined it was night - hence the idea for a lullaby.  "The lyrics were inspired by one of the singers I admire, the late Chuck Mosley; I imagined singing a farewell lullaby to him, far beyond our Earthly realm, joined by a choir of birds and insects whose voices are filtered by the many layers of the Earth's atmosphere." The Real Thing Review by Ned Raggett [-] Starting with the careening "From Out of Nowhere" driven by Roddy Bottum's doomy, energetic keyboards, Faith No More rebounded excellently on The Real Thing after Chuck Mosley's was fired. Given that the band had nearly finished recording the music and Mike Patton was a last minute recruit, he adjusts to the proceedings well. His insane, wide-ranging musical interests would have to wait for the next album for their proper integration, but the band already showed enough of that to make it an inspired combination. Bottum, in particular, remains the wild card, coloring Jim Martin's nuclear-strength riffs and the Bill Gould/Mike Bordin rhythm slams with everything from quirky hooks to pristine synth sheen. It's not quite early Brian Eno-joins-Led Zeppelin-and-Funkadelic, but it's closer than one might think, based on the nutty lounge vibes of "Edge of the World" and the Arabic melodies and feedback of "Woodpeckers from Mars." "Falling to Pieces," a fractured anthem with a delicious delivery from Patton, should have been a bigger single that it was, while "Surprise! You're Dead!" and the title track stuff riffs down the listener's throat. The best-known song remains the appropriately titled "Epic," which lives up to its name, from the bombastic opening to the concluding piano and the crunching, stomping funk metal in between. The inclusion of a cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" amusingly backfired on the band -- at the time, Sabbath's hipness level was nonexistent, making it a great screw-you to the supposed cutting-edge types. However, all the metalheads took the song to heart so much that, as a result, the quintet dropped it from their sets to play "Easy" by the Commodores instead! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/comics-in-motion-podcast/message

It's the Real Thing, Slackers! This week i gush over my favorite band of all time, with the lead singer that changed my entire perspective on music. Starting in the alternative/punk scene of San Francisco, when the band fired lead singer Chuck Mosley, they hired a 19 year-old kid from the Northern California city of Eureka, who would change the band's fortunes and thrust them into international fame. With a top 10 hit in "Epic", the band would follow up their platinum selling "The Real Thing" with the weirdest, most confusing follow up to a hit record (possibly ever) with 1992's "Angel Dust". After a messy breakup with founding guitarist Jim Martin, the band embarked on a journey to fully engross themselves in ever conceivable genre of music, releasing what might be my personal favorite album, "King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime".After a mediocre and ironically named "Album of the Year", the band disbanded, with members going on to different projects. But after 18 years, the band resurfaced, reunited and more potent than ever, releasing a triumphant return to form in "Sol Invictus". While some Covid related issues have stalled their most recent touring plans, when they get back on the road, I just have to say that as a live band, 10/10 would recommend.Roddy Bottom, Billy Gould, Mike Patton, Mike "Puffy" Bordin, & Jon Hudson. They are Faith No More, and they "Rock, Hudson, rock"!

The album reflects a maturing of the band’s overall sound but an end to that punkier edge. Many can’t listen past the wavering pitch of Chuck’s bellowing, while there’s an undeniable rawness and integrity living in his lyrics and delivery.

Catalog of Interviews and Bits

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 28, 2017 - Legendary Front-Man Chuck Mosley--ex-Faith No More/Bad Brains/Cement--will be continuing his Reintroduce Yourself Tour into Fall 2017. After a brief break from the summer run, they're hitting the road today in Winchester, VA and will wind through the Midwest and up the East Coast before winding up October 15th in Toledo, OH. Chuck will be joined by Alex Bergeron Jr. (Agents of Oblivion/Deadboy/The Elephantmen) on bass, Dallas Sheppard (Nineball) on guitar, and Douglas Esper on percussion. "I'm so excited, and I hope everyone else is excited too. We've had so much fun traversing the country this summer; the additions of a second guitar and bass have enabled me to bring the music up to the level that I have been hearing in my head, and expand the possibilities tenfold. We've made a lot of great, warm, and loving new friends--truly beautiful people--whom i cant wait to see again. We also can't wait to be reunited with an equal amount of older friends, you all know who you are, see you all real soon! We also can't wait to get back out tomorrow, but it always seems to go by so fast!!!! I finally want to send a very very special thanks to Michelle and Doug Esper (who a lot of you know as Mr. Harry Bickerson) without whom none of this would have been possible. To Doug and Michelle, and of course Mara and Owen, and both of their families, thank you for your faith, your patience, and your absolute trust in me. I love you all." -

Damien and Desmond are back in hologram form to introduce themselves to the only record standing between them and Mike Patton: Faith No More's Introduce Yourself. Right off the bat, Desmond has a theory about Chuck that Damien agrees with. What do Wesley Willis and the Kids of Widney High have in common? They're both have better vocals than Chuck Mosley. The band name suggestions are played fast and loose as well as tangents about Fine Young Cannibals and dubstep. Damien makes a very vivid comparison from a song to what a herd of animals might be doing, and Desmond argues with a song. Again. All this and more. Can we have some Mike Patton now, please?
