Tim Wise returns for the second installment of a two-part conversation here on The Chauncey DeVega Show. He is one of America's and the world's leading experts on white privilege and racism. Tim Wise is the author of numerous books including his most recent Under the Affluence: Shaming the Poor, Praising the Rich and Sacrificing the Future of America. Tim Wise explains how the "Varsity Blues" college and university admissions cheating and bribery scandal reflects a pathological culture among America's white elites, the many ways that unearned white advantages and white privilege along lines of race and class operate across all levels of America's educational system, and how "affirmative action" for white folks--especially the rich and upper classes--is the norm in American society. Tim Wise also explains why the beneficiaries of the "Varsity Blues" criminal conspiracy should be expelled from their colleges and universities. A few would deny that most parents of any race or socio-economic background want nothing but the best for their children. However, parents are often confronted with issues of not knowing essential study skills for children, new technology, preparing their child for college and tackling their child’s learning deficiency and more. Morrow is driven to guide parents on ways their children can overcome barriers that may impact their learning. In this episode, we will quickly explore the college cheating scandal (found here: https://cnn.it/2FwLvji) and how it truly affects us mentally and emotionally and does not uphold the thought that “only the strong survive” but instead we learn that “sometimes the strong and mostly the rich and privileged survive”. Twenty-five years ago today I was probably really stressed out about the college application and admissions process. Things have arguably gotten tougher since then for students trying to chart their futures. And the headlines this month don’t help. The U.S. Department of Justice charged 50 people last week in a multi-million-dollar scheme that allowed rich parents to cheat the college admissions system. By faking standardized test scores and bribing athletics officials, those parents managed to get their kids into elite schools like Georgetown, Stanford, Yale, and USC. But what if you don’t want to commit a crime but still want to succeed in life? What’s the plan? We’re going to discuss. With me this week: Michael Reilly, executive director of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers; C.J. Farley, author of the new book Around Harvard Square, and the father of two teenagers; Adam Brownlee, an investment theory instructor at Western Kentucky University who has done the math on whether an Ivy League degree is worth the cost; and CNBC wealth editor Robert Frank. Also on the podcast: Frank Calderoni is the CEO of software company Anaplan, and he’s the former CFO of companies including Cisco, Red Hat and SanDisk. Learn more about your ad choices. Tim Wise returns for the second installment of a two-part conversation here on The Chauncey DeVega Show. Tim Wise is the author of numerous books including his most recent Under the Affluence: Shaming the Poor, Praising the Rich and Sacrificing the Future of America. Time Wise explains how the "Varsity Blues" college and university admissions cheating and bribery scandal reflects a pathological culture among America's white elites, the many ways that unearned white advantages and white privilege along lines of race and class operate across all levels of America's educational system, and how "affirmative action" for white folks--especially the rich and upper classes--is the norm in American society. Tim Wise also explains why the beneficiaries of the "Varsity Blues" criminal conspiracy should be expelled from their colleges and universities. On this week's show, Chauncey DeVega ponders more examples of this broken malignant reality that is TrumpWorld. First, Donald Trump insults the deceased Senator John McCain and demands that the corpse-ghost thank him for providing a proper funeral. Second, Trump embraces and endorses the vile hateful violent views of his fellow authoritarian, President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, during their recent meeting at the White House. And there is a fun "Easter egg" for ghetto nerd boys and girls on this week's podcast if they listen through to the very end of the show. We interrupted our regularly scheduled programming to focus an entire episode on the scandal rocking the admissions world involving wealthy parents, corrupt coaches and standardized test proctors, and a villain for the ages in the form of Rick Singer. Singer broke the law and lined his pockets with illicit funds for years before getting caught, at which point he promptly turned around and implicated a whole host of others, including, gasp, some celebrities. It's been nothing short of a tsunami in terms of media coverage, and we're, I suppose, not immune to the desire to share our own thoughts about what happened and why. But most importantly we want to help all of our listeners understand how best to move forward.

Invisible Booth Stories: A weekly set of stories, interviews, and discussions from the perspective of people of colour about what life is like In Living Colour. Today’s episode reflects on the college cheating scandal that has hit the airwaves. Hey All! I’m your host Eose & I went to one of the top Ivy League schools caught up in the scandal, and when I heard about the scandal I was angry but then I cried - I did. Why you ask? Well it made me reflect on my own journey as a woman of colour. Getting into the Ivy League school was a challenge alone- having battling homelessness, starvation, to cover the cost to get into the school, application fees, traveling expenses for interviews etc- but I was faced with an even more of a challenge once I gain admittance from the “Elite” -making it known that I didn’t belong and I had to prove it every day that I was good ENOUGH to be there. So when the scandal broke I was left w a lot of emotions. I didn’t know where to place it - so instead of sweeping it away - I decided to share my story. Hopefully you see a reflection of yourself and your voice heard in this episode.
This episode is all about the college cheating scandal that includes prominent universities.
