Reading Tough Streets, Rough Skies, and Sunday Sidelines, readers may need to be reminded that it is a true story. From Larry Wansley's days as a young police detective, dodging bullets while attempting to calm the Compton (California) race riots to his leadership of a staff that identified the 9/11 hijackers, this globally respected security figure has written an action-packed recollection of his foot-to-the-pedal career. As one of the FBI's first long-term undercover agents, Wansley aided with the search for kidnapped Patty Hearst and once organized a sting operation that resulted in the recovery of $42 million in stolen property. He used so many aliases that at times he had trouble remembering who he was supposed to be. While serving as Global Security Director for American Airlines, he coordinated the numbing turmoil that came in the wake of the 9/11 tragedy and walked among those searching Ground Zero. He dealt with drug cartels, arms smugglers, a shoe bomb, and more than a few Mafia wiseguys. During his tenure as Director of Security and Counseling Services for the Dallas Cowboys, he shielded legendary Cowboys coach Tom Landry from a potential sniper hidden in the Monday Night Football crowd and spent a summer serving as pop singer Whitney Houston's bodyguard during her European tour.Written with two-time Edgar Award winner Carlton Stowers, Wansley's autobiography runs the emotional gamut from terrifying to heartbreaking to laugh-out-loud funny with the dangerous and high drama situations that are often only found in fiction.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

With just 90 minutes left before he was set to return home, pack his belongings, and head to San Jose to begin training as a full-time officer, tragedy struck. The officers pulled over a red pickup truck that had aroused their suspicion. As they attempted to detain the driver, a parolee with a concealed weapon, the situation escalated. George Smith spent his first years in Compton California in the early 80s. When he was very young, his mom moved him south, out of the city to keep him away from trouble. And it worked, for a while. As he turned 16, a series of events led them back to Compton and in spite of never having any kind of trouble before, by 17 there was an incident that resulted in a double life + 44 years sentence. For 15 years he tells us what it was like in the middle of gang life of the prison system. Then it all changed as he had a spiritual experience that completely changed his path. Welcome! This Sunday's message is dedicated to the memory and honor my late Uncle George of Compton California. Sunday message of faith and inspiration, to listen to while on the go or at home. May God Bless you and family! Amen.
Show Notes Our guest today, Dr Tiffanie Tate Moore, is the poster child for resilience. Raised by an Aunt, in Compton CA, because both her parents were strongly addicted to drugs and alcohol. Dr Tiffany grew up to be valedictorian, an OBG/YN Surgeon, a medical Officer in the United States Navy, and having a successful medical practice in riverside, CA. All pretty impressive, huh? But that does not take into account that she was abused in early childhood, was shot in her back in a drive-by shooting, and had to quit medical practice at the age of 44 because of a hand injury that prevented her from practicing surgery. After depression and feelings of uselessness, Dr Tiffanie once again discovered her innate and learned resilience to overcome these challenges to become a woman of great value to her society and to herself. I can't wait to learn from Dr Tiffanie Moore just what it takes to overcome horrific life changes to become a person of value, service, honor, a commitment to a life serving God. Visit Dr Tiffanie in Instagram @DrTiffanieMoore And on Facebook You can click the link to find her book, Flowe Try

Welcome to a special series Madison is doing this February. Using Erika River's website “OurBlackGirls.com” Madison will be highlighting cases of missing or cold cases involved black girls and women. Back girls and women go missing at a disproportionate rate, yet despite that they receive less coverage than white victims. To get some of these not so well known cases out there. - This week I will be covering the disappearances of four black women. Anastasia Duke, a 34 year old woman, went missing from Citrus Heights California on June 21, 2021. Virgina Rambus was 19 years old when she went missing on May 20, 1985 in Seattle Washington. Tioni Theus was only 16 years old when her body was found on the side of the highway in Compton California on January 8, 2022. Brittany Palmer was 23 years old when she vanished leaving a friends house in August of 2020. Her body was later found in a cemetery in Jacksonville Florida with no clues to what happened - You can find Erika Rivers at OurBlackGirls.com. You can find her on Tiktok and listen to her Podcast under the same name. We're continuing our (virtual) Sundance 2022 coverage with the cast and crew from the short films The Panola Project, Hallelujah, and Fck Em Right Back. This is a particularly fun group of conversations that bring inspiration, heart, and the strength to say "Fuck You"! Rachael DeCruz and Jeremy S. Levine (who wrote, directed, and produced The Panola Project) share the story of local hero Dorothy Oliver, who sets out to vaccinate her small town of Panola, Alabama (pop. 350) in a state where less than half of the population is vaccinated. They discuss meeting Dorothy, how shooting this film helped them deal with the stress of the pandemic, and filling the score with music from the great Jermaine "Mainframe" Fletcher. In the film Hallelujah, we meet two siblings who are stuck with having to take care of their nephew and niece after the death of their brother. The writer/director Victor Gabriel and producer Duran Jones explain their own real life connection to the story, and finally settle the great Cornflakes debate (they're serious about their cereal). With Fck Em Right Back, we're introduced to the fabulous DDm, a queer Black Baltimore rapper who has to outsmart his horrible boss to avoid getting fired after accidentally eating an edible. We were joined by director Harris Doran, producer Doris Casap, and our star, DDm, to discuss how DDm's real life inspired the film, and why it was important to make a fun story with a greater message. You can follow director Rachael DeCruz on IG & Twitter & FBYou can follow director Jeremy S. For this comprehensive and extended episode that aired on June 15, 2017, TE RUSS and DJ ROME welcomed 4 distinguished guests to discuss the current plight of the global African American community. Representing both Compton California and Shreveport Louisiana, educator/entrepreneur ZOLTAN SHARIF (Black To The Basics Bookstore-Grambling State University) speaks about the importance of seizing opportunities within the community as a means of economic empowerment. Mr. Sharif also speaks about his enduring friendship with Neo-Soul superstar ERYKAH BADU, her role in contributing toward the original and re-emerging Black To The Basics Bookstore, and his appearance in her 1997 debut music video "ON and ON." Mrs. CHRISTINA XLIMIT also joined the discussion but only MOMENTS after her husband was victimized by an assault and robbery at the hands of three assailants. But steadfast and poised and after a safety check, Mrs XLimit was ultimately able to harness her resiliency enough to share her perspectives gained from her experiences with the Black Lives Matter movement in Denver Colorado. For a global/historical context, DR. DONTRANEIL CLAYBORNE, professor, world traveler, and purveyor of the African diaspora shares his views on Africans throughout the world and the importance of establishing and maintaining a connection between Africans worldwide and those within our domestic communities here in America. And returning for the second time, comedian/political commentator Mr. JEFFREY KELLER from 90.7 FM KPFK in Los Angeles steps in to offer his conscious and comedic discourse regarding that very slippery slope where entertainment meets with politics (ala Bill Cosby, Kathy Griffin, Bill Maher, and the "N" word). A far-reaching and all-encompassing episode awaits you with this one so press play and enjoy.
