Evolution. It's what keeps the best bands afloat — song after song, show after show, record after record. Mike Harmeier was still in his early 20s when he formed Silverada (Previously known as Mike and the Moonpies) From the start, they were the definition of a workingman's country band, cutting their teeth with five-hour sets on Austin's dancehall circuit before spreading their music to the rest of America. By the early 2020s, they'd become global ambassadors of homegrown Texas music, flying their flag everywhere from Abbey Road Studios (where they recorded 2019's Cheap Silver & Solid Country Gold with help from the London Symphony Orchestra) to the Grand Ole Opry. Today, Silverada has become a beacon and ambassadors of a new sound taking the music world by storm. In this special chat live from the Midland Cruise, we talk about the sonic evolution of the band, the unique magic from the band's chemistry, the special bond with the fans, and more. Bitcoiners branching out into other industries is great, but what I really want to see is people in other industries adopting Bitcoin. I'm particularly keen for musicians, athletes and sports teams to figure this out (shout out to Perth Heat for leading by example). That's why I was very excited to discover Joe Martin. Joe is a singer-songwriter who is a musician first but also a bitcoiner. He gets it, and the best bit...he's good! We want Joe to be able to take a message to his friends in the music industry, so we're passing on all donations (streams, boosts etc) from value-for-value enabled podcasting apps. Today's guest is BJ Barham. BJ is best known as the frontman of the Americana country band American Aquarium. Over the last 17 years he has built a reputation as one of the hardest working hardest touring acts in any genre. This summer, he and the band hit the road with the new album titled Chicamacomico. I spoke with him backstage at the tractor Tavern in Seattle, Washington.
Ed Snodderly is a songwriter with a strong Appalachian sense of place. His songs ring in the old, the odd and in a non-sentimental way Ed calls it American Southern, “'cause that sounds really cool.” The charts call it Country/Americana. An upbringing in the mountains of East Tennessee lends to the ideas of his twists and turns with his lyrics. The songs are familiar but cross-pollinated with mountains and radio stations. You could say some of his songs are a giving back to the culture, and in the same breath recognize a creative way that they bring the modern into view. Ed was awarded in 2020 for a lifetime achievement award presented to him from SERFA (Southern Region of Folk Alliance) for his contributions to southern folk music. The third verse in his song, “The Diamond Stream”, which he performs here, is permanently displayed on the Wall of Honor at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee. It reads…… “So, take down your box and bow And play the strings Whisper up your own travelin' tune Listen to the sound that the water makes In the Diamond Stream The Diamond Stream”. Recorded at Puckett's Grocery in Leiper's Fork, TN, welcome to the Southern Americana Podcast: Where we will Connect the South's music, people, and places. Our first episode with singer/songwriter Emily Elgin is up on Apple Podcast (formerly iTunes). The South is an amazing place. It's given birth to a multitude of remarkable music and amazing personalities. And as I've heard all of my life, the entire Southeastern United States is the "garden spot of the universe." I'm Paul Stanley, and I'll be your host for this Southern Americana podcast. For the past seven years, I've been a freelance writer and publish much of my work about the South on my website, OneSouthernMan.com. I love the South, everything about it, especially the music and people, and I want to share it with you. I grew up in the small town of Savannah. No, not Georgia, Savannah, Tennessee, which sits on the banks of the Tennessee River, just a few miles from Shiloh battlefield and Pickwick Lake. I've spent almost my entire life in Tennessee and the South, except for my college years in Texas, another state, or should I say a country that I adore. Oh, and I spent three years in my mid-twenties on foreign soil, in what I refer to as "the tundra," or Kansas. Yet the South has always called me home. Where I grew up, there were many sayings about the South that hung on our walls: A Southerner: "A person born or living in the South; gracious, easy-going, slow-taking, friendly, devoted to front porches, oak trees, cool breezes, magnolias, peaches, and fried chicken." Another said, "The South is a place where...tea is sweet, and accents are sweeter, summer starts in April (thank goodness), macaroni and cheese is a vegetable, those front porches are wide and our words long, pecan pie is a staple, Y'all is a proper noun, biscuits always come with gravy, even chocolate gravy, everything is "darlin', (and you're preferred to that or Honey by any respectable diner waitress) and someone's heart is always blessed." I could add a lot more to that list, such as bourbon, barbecue, SEC football, and tailgating in The Grove at Ole Miss. We'll talk about these and many more subjects in future episodes. From time to time, I'll bring in co-hosts who will also share their love for music, especially the genre we know as Americana. What is Americana music? It's a lot of things. Its roots are found in the blues that originated from the Mississippi Delta, and country music that made its way from the hills of Appalachia to Nashville. It's from the early rock n roll sounds created by Sam Phillips and Elvis in Memphis. And what about the jazz riffs from Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Americana combines folk songs of the great depression with the sounds made famous by Rick Hall and The Swampers in Muscle Shoals. And let's not forget about the soulful gospel sounds created in Black churches that dot the southern landscape. Whatever it is, Americana music sounds great. As for people, where do we begin? There's singer/songwriters, playwrights, actors, musicians, athletes, chefs, business people, and tons of other exciting people from all walks of life. Some are household names you'll easily recognize, others you probably never heard of. Many were born in the South, while others are transplants. Some even reside in other regions or across the oceans, yet all have left a footprint in the South. And the places. The larger cities of Atlanta, Nashville, Birmingham, New Orleans, Charlotte, and Charleston certainly give us plenty to talk about. And let's not forget the smaller towns and communities such as Clarksdale, Oxford, and Natchez, Mississippi, Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Fayetteville, Arkansas, quaint towns in the bluegrass lands of Kentucky, small communities in the low country of the Carolinas, or in the hill country of Virginia. There are so many places that impact Americana. Most of our episodes will be recorded in a small community in Middle Tennessee called Leiper's Fork. Over the past twenty years, this magical community not only is home to some exciting locals but also to some of the top Americana and recording artists such as Chris Stapleton, Sheryl Crow, Wynonna Judd, Carrie Underwood, Vince Neil, J.T. Hodges, Will Hoge, Layla Tucker, and countless others. Where is Leiper's Fork? Leiper's Fork is located about 10 miles southwest of Franklin, TN, which is about twenty miles south of Nashville. It's one of the places where the Americana Music Triangle was conceived, and if you haven't yet visited, it's a place you'll want to experience soon. We'll also hit the road and record episodes all over the South where ever we can find engaging music, people and places. The first episode of Southern Americana podcast is an interview with Country/Americana recording artist, Emily Elgin, who recently released her first EP, This Woman. I invite you to tag along on this journey of Southern Americana. It's going to be a fun ride.
The Young Fables (TYF) are the promising Modern Traditional Country™ duo comprised of three-time American Idol vet Laurel Wright and Gretsch endorsed guitarist and vocalist Wesley Lunsford. The team is best known for their appearance on USA’s showcase television series Real Country featuring Shania Twain. This year, TYF have wrapped recording on their sophomore album titled Old Songs with the Grammy Award winning producer Mitch Dane (Jars of Clay, Brandon Heath & Caedmon's Call). These ten songs establish The Young Fables' sonic home in the Country/Americana community as a modern proclaimer and preservationist of classic country's storytelling roots. An invitation from Shania Twain to appear on USA Network’s 'Real Country', showcased the nation’s top emerging country artists and gained the duo national notability. The Young Fables are gearing up for the release of their feature documentary 'The Fable of a Song', chronicling a remarkable series of events that rocked TYF in 2018. Meanwhile, high praises from Rolling Stone and THE PLAYHOUSE TOUR (a route of venues and house concerts across America) are helping to secure the team’s spot on the story of country music.

Web: www.flatriverband.comFacebook: www.facebook.com/flatrivermusicInstagram: @flatrivermusicTwitter: @flatrivermusic One thing is apparent when you listen to The Flat River Band. The trio, comprised of siblings Andy, Dennijo, and Chad Sitze, love to have fun when they are playing music – and it shows. The brothers have also charted #1 hits on the bluegrass gospel charts as well as have had their songs featured in the 2018 movie “The Least of These — A Christmas Story” featuring Duane Allen (Oak Ridge Boys), Deborah Allen, and Tayla Lynn (Loretta Lynn’s granddaughter). That unabandoned joy and love of music comes to the forefront when you listen to the band’s new album, Every Dog Has Its Day. The trio’s fifth effort is one that the band is very excited to bring to the attention of its fans. Media Inquiries for Flat River Band: Michael Stover MTS Management Group www.mtsmanagementgroup.com
Lake Street Dive bookend the show today and prove to be a big hit here at Record Box HQ. Tobin floated the band and their kick-off-the-show tune Good Kisser is a great introduction to the Boston five piece. More on Lake Street Dive later. Personal friend and country songstress Andrea Glass features at long last. Well overdue is a play from her. We have a track from her debut LP, North Wind. More used to being played alongside other Country/Americana greats on shows like the legendary Bob Harris' we hope she feels equally at home here. Bobby Womack ends his track so abruptly it causes some hilarity in the studio. However, we delve into his colourful private life and the legacy he, and his brother Cecil left. Cecil forming Womack and Womack with Sam Cooke's daughter, Bobby's step-daughter with whom he'd had an affair. All very risqué and exciting. We've also got New Music in the form of the decisive Husbands track Mexico. You can get early access to New Music from Record Box HQ here. Wax time and a pre-release Richard spins up more legendary tracks from deep in his personal crates with the sublime Urban Species feat. MC Solaar track Listen. French rap never sounded so good. Couple that with a pre-release from Goner Records, Aquarian Blood send us a teaser from their forthcoming LP. Couple that with a Record Box Classic and you're in for a musical ride without comparison. Sit down, buckle up, get them head phones on and let's give the proverbial musical bird to the outside world and enjoy each other's company for about an hour. Just a little less actually, but it's time well spent. Good Kisser Lake Street Dive North Wind Andrea Glass Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words) Bobby Womack Mexico Husbands Listen Urban Species feat MC Solaar A Song For You Donny Hathaway There's A World Aquarian Blood Rich Girl Lake Street Dive Lake Street Dive - tell us more Named after a street in Minneapolis that contains many dive bars (disreputable drinking establishment) Lake Street Dive formed in 2004. You're hearing lead singer Rachael Price here telling us all about how good she is at kissing. Backing her mighty claim is Mike Olson, Bridget Kearney, Mike Calabrese and Akie Bermiss. Respectively they play trumpet and guitar, upright bass, drums and finally keys. Keyboardist Akie Bermiss joined the band on tour in 2017 and plays on this LP. Lake Street Dive was brought into existence by a shared love to create free country music. Yes, really that. Just country music played for free. However, as Mike "McDuck" Olson states, The concept was abandoned for something that actually sounded good. Mike Olson Most members were already playing instruments at a young age and some even had classical training. However, their influences came mainly from the music they heard at home. Mainly jazz, soul and '60s rock. Lake Street Dive also all individually cite the entire Beatles discography as hugely influential. In fact Kearney wrote Hello? Goodbye! and Don't Make Me Hold Your Hand as a direct result of her love of The Beatles. Further influences on Lake Street Dive In addition to The Beatles, LSD cite Hall and Oates (heard here on the track Rich Girl), The Jackson 5, The Mamas and the Papas, Fleetwood Mac, ABBA and The Drifters. They also annually release a Halloween cover/video. You can go check out their Fun Machine EP which contains some of these covers. With this in mind, it's quite obvious Lake Street Dive don't take themselves too seriously at all. They're a fun band knocking out slick grooves and having a whole lot of fun along the way. In fact, they claim to draw on the energy of their audience and are able to pump that energy back at them and mould the atmosphere in the room We want it to sound like the Beatles and Motown had a party together Mike Calabrese Andrea Glass roll call Richard mentioned on today's show that Andrea Glass had an incredible roll call of musicians on this recording. In this episode, I want to touch on a subject that is very important to me. As the Summer season draws to a close I know that many of us are experiencing some degree of burnout. I figured this would be a good issue to address and give some tips and tricks on burnout that have come from some of our guests so far and based on personal research and experience. To close out this episode we are fortunate to have Jarrod Morris allow us to play the single from his latest album West of East. Enjoy listening to Coyote. Jarrod is a fellow farrier and musician. Jarrod's Facebook pages describes him as “a Country/Americana songwriter that writes about his authentic experiences so that his music to be relatable & relevant to his listeners. Writing is the core of Jarrod’s music. He believes when you write a song, you have a deeper connection to the music. As he says, “Something very special happens there.” Jarrod doesn’t want to be pigeonholed into any one genre. His music is anything he likes to play with a nice melody and an original hook. No fluff– just raw and real, with a little grit.” How to find his music?
