The Lazy Girl's Guide to Podcasting: A Podcast about Podcasting and Podcasting Tips
Are you ever hit with shiny object syndrome when it comes to podcasting tech? You know what I mean; you see (or hear) someone talking about another piece of podcasting tech, and you're convinced that switching to something new will propel your podcast forward. But is the grass always greener on the other side? It's a common struggle of podcasters; facing analysis paralysis when it comes to choosing podcasting tech tools and platforms. So in this episode, I share my experience of feeling stuck in the endless search for the perfect tools and emphasize the importance of prioritizing content creation over constantly trying new tools. We talk about how and why it's so important to focus on the basics, such as a podcast hosting platform, recording and editing software, and graphic design tools for podcast artwork. I'll even give you some recommendations for podcast tech and software that you might want to check out if you haven't found something you like yet.But overall, the biggest podcast tips for this episode is to stop getting distracted by 'shiny object syndrome' and sticking with what works best for you as the podcaster, and your podcast.Afterall, your audience come to you for your content; not because of the tech you've used during production.Tools mentioned:Captivate.fm - https://veritysangan.com/captivateBuzzsprout - https://veritysangan.com/buzzsproutRiverside.fm - https://veritysangan.com/riversideCanva - https://veritysangan.com/canvaHighlights:Importance of prioritizing content creation over tech toolsAdvice to stick with what works and focus on basicsAvoiding 'shiny object syndrome' in podcasting techEssential tools for starting a podcast: hosting platform, recording/editing software, graphic design toolsImportance of having the basics in place and focusing on content creationTimestamps:00:00:00 Intro00:01:07 Overcoming Podcast Tech Analysis Paralysis00:03:08 Stick with What Works and Focus on the Basics - Podcasting Advice00:04:27 Essential Tools for Starting a Podcast00:07:50 Advice on Choosing Podcast Tech Stack Wisely

Local SEOs wonder whether searchers actually enter the Local Finder from the Pack results. We often think no but our research indicates that not only do searchers enter the Local Finder on a regular basis, they also scroll deep and often pick a business not in the top three. Local link building is hard but NearMedia research indicates that even in competitive markets in competitive categories it only takes several great local links to compete. Google has created a world where focusing on search optimizations has rewarded businesses who have invested in SEO. Yet they consistently lecture users about the need for user centric content. The reality is that there is a great deal of hypocrisy on the part of Google in these matters. How should they deal with this reality?Subscribe to our 3x per week newsletter at https://www.nearmedia.co/subscribe/

I write a lot. Between my books and blog, I’ve written (er, typed) tens of millions of words on various topics ranging from building big guns (biceps) to literal gun rights, from calories and macros to history and religion, from habits and motivation to actually getting smarter, and many excursions everything in between. So it’s not surprising that many people who are interested in writing ask me how to get started, about the writing process, how to get better at it, and how to break into the content creation game. To help address this topic, I invited a veteran expert, Lou Schuler, onto the podcast. In case you’re not familiar with Lou, he’s the Editorial Director of the Personal Trainer Development Center (Jonathan Goodman’s online training coaching company) and an award-winning journalist who’s spent decades writing fitness articles for Men’s Fitness and Men’s Health, as well as his own books, including The New Rules of Lifting series and The Lean Muscle Diet (with Alan Aragon). He’s even delved into the world of fiction, so he’s more than just a health and fitness writing guru. In this podcast, we chat about all things writing, including . . . How writing is different from other content creation Why you probably shouldn't write unless you really enjoy it The important of knowing your audience The value of self-editing (and how to do it) Why writing is hard (and should be) Dealing with drafts and coming back to them with fresh eyes And more . . . So, if you want to learn some key lessons Lou has learned from decades of writing in the fitness space, give this episode a listen! 10:04 - How do you get into the writing business? 46:28 - What does your self editing process look like? 58:10 - Do you tend to sit on something you’ve written and come back to it at a later time? Creating content is one thing, but making sure your content creates the engagement you want is another. If your content sucks, you are not going to get any engagement. Once this happens, most people tend to give up on that type of content, thinking it doesn’t work for them, but as you’ll soon find out, this is usually not the case. The biggest challenge that many people face when creating content is not knowing their audience. You have to know and understand your audience to create content that resonates with them. What this means is that you have to understand their frustration and fears which then allows you to meet them where they are at.Once you understand your audience, you need to know their pain points. This enables you to create content that hits them on an emotional level. All your content, including ads, should be designed to address their pain points and resonate on an emotional level. The third key to creating great content is telling a story. People love stories, and there is no better way to connect with your audience than through stories. The thing with stories is that you have to do it in such a format that makes your audience take the action you want.Click play on this episode to hear of a great 5 step framework for telling a story that will resonate with your audience and make them take the action you want. Welcome to Episode 008 of the ESSENTIALS series. In this episode we focus on one element every message needs to help you CONNECT with your audience. (01:10) Before we begin, DOWNLOAD the free Quick Guide PDF HERE: PDF Quick Guide to Creating a Talk that Sticks (01:27) It's not possible to cover in one short podcast everything needed to create a great message or sermon. So today we will focus on ONE critical element. It's a wonderful technique that will endear you to, and build trust with your listeners. First, choose the subject of your message and then refine it down to one focused objective. Create a concise sentence that defines your objective. This will rule the rest of your message creation. Then gather all the elements and items your talk will potentially contain. Next you will trim, trim, trim and then organize your elements in the order you will deliver them. 3 major areas of an orators speech were defined by Aristotle in ancient Greece. Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. (see the Venn diagram in the PDF.) Today we concentrate on the Pathos element (03:19). It's the emotional and feeling part of your talk. (08:12) Without Pathos, your talk will not sink in and stick with your listener as well as it could. (08:56) To do this, use a story, experience, or memory of your own life. The use of FEELINGS in your message often times gets a bad rap. (10:29) They are often the glue that cements the truth into your audience. (13:50) Your listeners begin to know you, then trust you. (14:55) Dennis Agajanian, a long time Christian Musician, is a master of communication from the stage. He could quickly read an audience and make changes to his message or concert accordingly. (16:35) Start cataloguing your life memories. Write them down and tag them; use voice memos on your phone or apps like Evernote to reference them. People buy the feeling they hope to get in a purchase, or any other life changing decision. (23:20) (24:18) Thank you for the notes and emails. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We'd love to help. Today's episode is a huge milestone for the show. It's the 40th episode of Climb in Consulting. It's been a great adventure so far and I'm looking forward to creating the next 40 episodes for you. A big thank you to all of my guests who have appeared on the show so far and a big thank you to you for listening to it! Without you I would have packed this up long ago. To celebrate 40 episodes I wanted to share my advice on one the biggest challenges I find Consultants, Consulting Leaders and Consulting Marketers face - Producing content. I speak to a ton of Consulting leaders and Consulting Heads of Marketing who say that they struggle to get content from their Consultants. Likewise I speak to Consultants who are desperate to create more content but just don't know how. In this episode I focus on the two reasons that I believe hold Consultants back from creating more content - fear and time. By resolving these two issues you'll be able to create significantly more content which will only benefit your firm and your own career. Specific people I mention in the show: Nigel Walsh - https://www.linkedin.com/in/nigelwalsh/ Nigel Walsh's interview for Climb in Consulting - https://www.climbinconsulting.com/podcast/2018/10/17/episode-31-nigel-walsh-deloitte-digital Natalia Wiechowski - https://www.linkedin.com/in/nataliawiechowski/ Natalia Wiechowski's interview for Climb in Consulting - https://www.climbinconsulting.com/podcast/episode-19-natalia-wiechowski This episode is brought to you by Create Engage the Digital Marketing agency for the disruptive Management Consultancy. Digital Marketing has moved forward, but most consulting firms haven't. Many Consulting firms still see their corporate blog as their sole Digital Marketing channel and find themselves frustrated when these blogs yield little if any results. To help those of you who want to harness the power of Digital Marketing to grow your Consulting Business but don't have the knowledge, capacity or in-house capability to do so I launched Create Engage, the first Digital Marketing agency for the Management Consulting Industry. If you'd like to find out more about how Create Engage can help you use Digital Marketing to take your business to the next level then drop me an email at Nick@CreateEngage.co.uk or go to our website www.createengage.co.uk where you can download our free case study that breaks down down the Digital Marketing strategies used by one successful Consulting firm to help them grow over 400% in just 3 years and gives you the secrets they used, so that you can apply them in your own firm.

10 Things I Wish I Knew About Blogging and Content Marketing When I Started Today, I want to share the audio of a keynote I gave at a conference early last year about 10 things I wish I’d known about blogging and creating content for content marketing when I started. In episodes 204 and 205 I shared some recordings of keynotes I’ve given, and the response from many of you was that you wanted to hear more of that style of podcast. So today I dug out a talk I gave at the Super Fast Business conference, which is run by James Schramko here in Australia.s James, who puts on a great event, asked me to share some of my story and give some practical tips on content creation. I talk about defining what your blog is about, the three phases of creating great content, how to mix up the different types of content you feature on your blog, idea generation, creating ‘content events’ on your blog, and how to differentiate yourself in your content. I loved doing this talk, and I hope you enjoy it too. The topic was '10 things I wish I had known about blogging and creating content for content marketing when I started'. A bit of a mouthful, but you get the idea. Back in episode 204, 205, just a few episodes ago, I shared a couple of recordings from keynotes I’ve given at my ProBlogger events and I had so much positive response from that. People really enjoyed that format, a presentation, a talk. Longer form and also the slides from those talks as well. I wanted to do it again because many of you wanted more of that style of podcast. We’re not going to do it every week by any account. I don’t give that many talks. But I did find this one from the Superfast Business Conference. It’s a conference that is run by James Schramko. Many of you will know here in Australia. It’s run in Sydney and it was a great event. I really enjoyed getting to that particular event. James puts on a really good event, and he asked me at the event last year to share some of my story but also give some practical tips on content creation. Really, that’s what the focus of this talk is about. In it, I’ve given a few tips on defining what your blog is about but then we get a lot into content creation itself. I talk about three different phases of creating content. I talk about how to mix up the different types of content that you might want to feature on your blog. I talk about idea generation, some tips on creating content, finishing content, running content events and challenges on your blog and also how to diff...

How to Overcome 5 Blogger Obstacles As I record this, I’m just home from our first ProBlogger event of the year in Brisbane and am preparing for our next one in the coming days in Melbourne. The Brisbane event was really worthwhile. We heard from Pat Flynn, Jadah Sellner, James Schramko, Kelly Exeter, Shayne Tilley and Laney Galligan and had a couple of days of great teaching and inspiration - including a day with a small group masterminding their businesses. Each year at our events, I open the event with a keynote. This year I spoke about evolving your blog rather than getting into a ‘revolving’ pattern (or going in circles). I will share more on that topic on the podcast in the future but as we’re very much focused this week on our events and serving our attendees I wanted to give you another taste of what we do at our events and share with you the opening keynote from a previous year as this week’s episode. I did this in the last episode too and got a lot of positive feedback and hope you’ll enjoy this one too. It’s from 4 years ago but I think it’s spot on in terms of a message for today too. This year was in Brisbane, just in the last weekend. We’re getting ready for our next one, experimenting this year with two in two weeks. The second one will be in Melbourne. By the time this episode goes live, we will have that one as well. Our Brisbane event was really worthwhile. I’m so excited about what we did this year. The right content is critical to creating trust, influence, and inspiring new business opportunities. In my experience, it’s taken over as the key online marketing strategy. Yet, so many advisors lack the time, ability and/or resources to pull it off and achieve the results they expect. The most obvious obstacle impacting financial advisors struggle with content creation is that they don’t have a process. Advisors need a process to be better at producing expert financial content. A well-thought out process can help you on your journey to become a financial influencer and inspire lots of referrals (ideal prospect leads).

Note: this episode is available to listen to in the player above, on iTunes and Stitcher. Tips and Resources to Generate Consistent Content for Your Blog Today I’m talking about being more consistent with your blogging. This topic originated from a question by Jason Stevens from Digital Tools of the Trade. Jason wants to know how to maintain consistency when blogging? This is an important question, because consistency matters when creating content for a blog or any medium. There are so many blogs out there that were started with energy, passion and enthusiasm for a topic. Eventually, the enthusiasm fades and those blogs are neglected or even dead. Today we are going to discuss tips and resources that will prevent your blog from ending up in the blogging graveyard. Also, don’t forget to check out our new resource of 180 Blog Post Ideas. Coming up with ideas was one of them, writing content was another, the third type was completing the content. Episode 84, I talked about how to come up with ideas for what to write about. You can find today's show notes with some further reading and some tools at problogger.com/podcast/86. Today, we're tackling the challenge of hitting the wall in terms of creating content. This is probably traditionally called writer's block but it applies to different forms of creating content as well. I know bloggers or podcasters who get podcasting block. YouTubers have YouTubing block or whatever it might be. Coming up against that wall of creating, it can come about for a variety of reasons. There's probably different types of writer's block in the midst of it. Sometimes, you get too many ideas and they all jam together that you can't get anything out. Sometimes it's just things that aren't flowing, your words are getting jumbled up, things just don't seem to sound right. Sometimes it's more about being out of rhythm. For instance, I have to find it really hard when I come back after taking three or four weeks off for a holiday, vacation, or travelling for a conference. Sometimes I find it hard to get back in the flow of writing every day. Sometimes you're just tired.
